Corruption of TM files on TC?

I have a MBA and a MBP2 running TM accessing the appropriate image files on a TC. I've now had the MBA's back up image file corrupted three times while the MBP2's has been corrupted once. Disk Utility app cannot handle the file corruptions. And, of course, when a image file is corrupted and unfixable, one has lost all their backups for that Mac and TM on that Mac needs to be re-initialized.
Has anyone seen a resolution to this problem? Or the cause (TC?, TM?, AirPort? Firmware? Hardware?)? Has Apple Support said anything useful? Did you need to replace hardware? Etc.
Essentially, TM, as currently implemented appears to be a liability instead of a solution.
Any advice is appreciated.
Thanks, folks.

P.S.: I've already deleted the "sparse bundle" file from the previous (failed!) backup. Is that all I have to do?

  • Adobe Bridge Corrupts Canon CR2 files

Viewing Canon CR2 RAW files from a Canon EOS 7D or Canon EOS 40D camera will corrupt some images. After Adobe Bridge creates a
thumbnail of the CR2 files, some images previews will show the file with corruption (large white square or discolored areas). The CR2 file then
becomes corrupt. The file is not corrupt prior to viewing in bridge, but it becomes corrupt after viewing in bridge. The file is corrupt because it can
no longer be processed with any other RAW conversion program including ACR, DPP, or BreezeBrowser. If the file is marked as read only before viewing in bridge, the image preview shows corrupt in Bridge but the file remains intact and can be processed with Canon's DPP software. This issue first occured with CS4 and the ACR 5.5 update. The problem seemed to be less prevalent with the ACR 5.7 update. However after upgrading to CS5 this problem is back and worse than ever.
When doing a detailed file compare between a corrupted version of a CR2 file and  a copy of the same file before the corruption occurs it appears as if metadata has been written to the wrong part of the file (middle) instead of the beginning (header).
    Operating System: Windows 7

I am trying to fix this problem as well.
    In my case, I've got Windows 7 (32-bit), CS5, and a Canon 50D.
I've got photos that I can view perfectly in Canon's Digital Photo Professional, but the SAME photo in the SAME directory opens corrupted in Bridge.
    Here's an interesting wrinkle:
    Scenarios:
(fyi - all my CR2 images are pulled off the CF card using Bridge's loader)
CR2 Image opened in Canon's Digital Photo Professional:  Opens Fine.
CR2 Image opened in Photoshop directly (skipping Bridge):  Opens Fine.  (opens in Camera Raw first, of course, but still Fine)
CR2 Image 'browsed to' in Bridge:  Corrupted pinky/yellow/white.
CR2 Image double-clicked in Bridge, opens in Camera Raw:  Corrupted pinky/yellow/white.
    Bridge closed.
CR2 image opened in Photoshop directly again.  Pay attention... opens 1st in Camera Raw: Corrupted, but for only five seconds! It refreshes on its own and now is Fine!  Click Open Image into Photoshop and it Opens Fine again.
It's clear to me Bridge/Adobe something is corrupting these images.
It seems sometimes that the corruption becomes permanent, and even Canon's Digital Photo Professional shows a corrupted image.  In the scenarios and order mentioned above, the CR2 file remains openable fine in Digital Photo Professional.  So, why other images I have cannot open well in Digital Photo Professional, I do not know -- perhaps the order I clicked things caused Bridge to update the CR2 file?
I'm in the process of updating all CS5 software to the latest, in case I'm missing some updates.  If anything improves as a result, I'll update here.

  • Mailed PDF files arrive on Windows platform as corrupt Windows Media files

Recently I mailed some .pdf files to 3 of the Windows machines on our network. Each of them reported that when attempting to open the .pdf file on the Windows machine, their system tried to use Windows Media instead of Adobe Reader. Of course they received an error message. When they saved the .pdf files on their machines, the files opened correctly in Adobe Reader.
These are files that I downloaded from the State of Oregon. After we had problems there, I mailed them some of the .pdf files I had created. Same results. The Windows machine treats them as corrupt Windows Media files.
I am the only Mac in our company. Of course the problem must be mine!?!
I am using MS Entourage as my mail client.
    Suggestions? Comments? Answers?
    Thanks!!

    Kappy,
No problem! Your suggestions were what made me consider the extension option in Entourage's preferences. Unfortunately, it didn't work.
Your suggestion also prompted me to try the same thing using Mail. Mail worked just fine, so the problem is in how Entourage handles the .pdf file being sent to a Windows computer where it will be opened either in Outlook or Internet Explorer.
It seems that Somewhere along the line, the .pdf extension is being changed to a .png extension which triggers the launch of Windows Media Browser.
I just rebuilt the Entourage database and I'll see what happens now.

  • Corrupted MS Word file on Windows 7 when Saving as PDF - ZWADOBEF

    I have a Word 2013 file on Windows 7.
I started to "Save As PDF", but cancelled the process because it was taking so long. My Word doc is about 200 pages.
When I went back to work on the document, the Navigation pane showed seemingly random numbers prepended to each heading, and in some cases to paragraphs themselves. The numbers didn't seem to appear in the document body but there was a tiny small blinking dot.
Upon close inspection I found that the numbers were in 1 pt. font ZWadobeF.
I need to get rid of all the numbers.
It also appears that the file size was affected too. It is now a 200 page document that is 7.5MB.
On a tight deadline (of course) and need to resolve this ASAP.
    Thanks

I tried several things to resolve the issue and can now produce PDFs without corrupting the Word file.
    1. I turned off the PDF Maker add-in in the Options menu:
    2. As you suggested, I repaired Acrobat Pro.
    3. I used the EXPORT command rather than the SAVE AS command. However, I got the following errors:
Despite the warnings I was able to produce the PDFs. However, when I double-click the file name in Windows Explorer, Distiller launches and displays the following error:
The only way to open the file in Explorer is to right-click the file name and select EDIT IN ACROBAT.
Also- and this may be a separate issue altogether, Word constantly hangs and displays the NOT RESPONDING message above the toolbar. This happens whether or not I am in the process of creating a PDF, and occurs in large and small size documents.
Thanks for your response to my questions-

  • ORA-19566: exceeded limit of 999 corrupt blocks for file

    Hi All,
I am new to Oracle RMAN & RAC Administration. Looking for your support to solve the below issue.
We have 2 disk groups - +ETDATA & +ETFLASH in our 3 node RAC environments in which RMAN is configured in node-2 to take backup. We do not have RMAN catalog and the RMAN is fetching information from control file.
Recently, the backup failed with the error ORA-19566: exceeded limit of 999 corrupt blocks for file +ETFLASH/datafile/users.6187.802328091.
We found that the datafiles are present in both disk groups and from the control file info, we got to know that the datafiles in +ETDATA are currently in use and +ETFLASH is having old datafiles.
    RMAN> show all;
RMAN configuration parameters for database with db_unique_name LABWRKT are:
    CONFIGURE RETENTION POLICY TO RECOVERY WINDOW OF 3 DAYS;
    CONFIGURE BACKUP OPTIMIZATION ON;
CONFIGURE DEFAULT DEVICE TYPE TO DISK; # default
    CONFIGURE CONTROLFILE AUTOBACKUP ON;
CONFIGURE CONTROLFILE AUTOBACKUP FORMAT FOR DEVICE TYPE DISK TO '%F'; # default
    CONFIGURE DEVICE TYPE DISK PARALLELISM 4 BACKUP TYPE TO BACKUPSET;
CONFIGURE DATAFILE BACKUP COPIES FOR DEVICE TYPE DISK TO 1; # default
CONFIGURE ARCHIVELOG BACKUP COPIES FOR DEVICE TYPE DISK TO 1; # default
CONFIGURE MAXSETSIZE TO UNLIMITED; # default
CONFIGURE ENCRYPTION FOR DATABASE OFF; # default
CONFIGURE ENCRYPTION ALGORITHM 'AES128'; # default
CONFIGURE COMPRESSION ALGORITHM 'BASIC' AS OF RELEASE 'DEFAULT' OPTIMIZE FOR LOAD TRUE ; # default
CONFIGURE ARCHIVELOG DELETION POLICY TO NONE; # default
    CONFIGURE SNAPSHOT CONTROLFILE NAME TO '+ETFLASH/CONTROLFILE/snapcf_LABWRKT.f';
    CONFIGURE SNAPSHOT CONTROLFILE NAME TO '+ETFLASH/controlfile/snapcf_labwrkt.f';
Above configuration shows that SNAPSHOT CONTROLFILE is pointing to +ETFLASH. So I changed the configuration with the SNAPSHOT CONTROLFILE points to '+ETDATA/controlfile/snapcf_labwrkt.f'. At the end of backup, SNAPSHOT file was created in +ETDATA and I was expecting it to be the copy of control file being used which has dbf located in +ETDATA. But still the backup was pointing to old datafiles in +ETFLASH. Since we dont have RMAN catalog, resync also is not possible.
When I ran it manually, it was successfull without any error and was pointing to the exisiting datafiles.
    RMAN> backup database plus archivelog all;
I hope the issue will get resolved if the RMAN points only to the datafiles present in +ETDATA. If I am correct, please let me know how can i make it possible? Also please explain me why the newly created snapshot file does not reflect the existing control file info?

    Hi,
I am getting an error from the DBA Planning Calendar every time the job ...
So when was your last successfull backup of this datafile. Check if still available.
If this is some time ago, and may be you are currently without any backup, try to backup without rman at once,
to have at least something to work with in case you get additional errors right now.
Then you need to find out what object is affected. You are on the right way already. You need the statement,
that goes to dba_extents to check what object the block belongs to.
Has the DB been recovered recently, so the block might possibly belong to an index created with nologging ?
(this could be the case on BW systems).
If the last good backup of that file is still available and the redologs belonging to this backup up to current time are as well, you could try to recover that file. But I'd do this only after a good backup without rman and by not destroying the original file.
If the last good backup was an rman backup, you can do a verify restore of that datafile in advance, to check if the corruption is really not inside the file to be restored.
Check out the -w (verify) option of brrestore first, to understand how it works.
(I am not sure it this is already available in version 7.00, may be you need to switch to 7.10 or 7.20)
    brrestore -c -m /oracle/SHD/sapdata4/sr3_16/sr3.data16  -b xxxxxxxx.ffr -w only_rmv
You should do a dbv check of that file as well, to check if it gets more information. I.E if more blocks are
affected. rman stops right after the first corruption, but usually you have a couple of those in line, esp. if these are
zeroed ones. (This one would also work with version 7.00 brtools)
    brbackup -c -u / -t online -m /oracle/SHD/sapdata4/sr3_16/sr3.data16 -w only_dbv
    Good luck.

  • Corrupted InDesign CS5 files

Hi, I have a few corrupted indesign CS5 files - had to recover them from my laptop. However, now when I try to open them I get "corrupted file" "error 5".  Does anyone know how I can open these.
I have tried opening as a copy etc, but to no avail. Thanks in advance.

Error Code 5 is basically a flatline.
You could try a service like Markzware, see if they recover your file by converting it to quark and back again (I know seems like a very wrong work flow).
But I've heard of this working in the past. I think they'll do the conversion for you and if it works you will need to pay the going rate for the files back (not 100% sure on how they work but that's my understanding)

  • Corruption of Photo files

I have recently updated my iphoto6 and imported a few pictures from my Canon Rebel X.
After doing so i discovered that iPhoto would open, but then freeze and not respond. Reading a variety of forums it would appear that this is because i have corrupt photo files.
The problem is that not only are a few of the most recently imported files been corrupted, but also a number of ones from previous rolls i had imported. These files do not open in either iphoto or Preview. When i attempt to do so from the Finder folder i get the an error message stating "Couldn’t open the file. It may be corrupt or a file format that Preview doesn’t recognize."
I unfortunately didn't back up these photos. Is there any way i can recover these corrupt files?
All my photos have also disappeared from my iphoto library but i am not worried about that as i can just rebuild the library.

did you ever figure out how to do this because i'm having the same problem.

  • LR corrupting my Raw Files

I've read the other discussions but haven't really seen an answer yet and the typical responses don't seem to apply to my situation.  Here is my situation:
I'm am getting corrupted RAW files after importing into LR.  Typically this is blamed on Hardware issues but I don't think that is the case for me.  I am getting 1 corrupt file per 100 or so imported.    I've had it happen using different CF cards.  And the file doesn't seem to be corrupt on transfering to my hard drive.  I'm using a Canon 40D.  Using Lightroom 3.2 64bit.  I shoot in RAW.  Here is my work flow.
I import the photos to my external hard drive via the camera.
I then back up the originals before importing into Lightroom by burning them to back up discs.
I then import them into Lightroom from their location.
Upon initial look everything is fine but when you actually select an image and the preview is fully rendered you can see the corrupt image.  Usually a white rectangle in the bottom right side the image.  Sometimes you get the yellow and pink streaking in that same area as well.
In trying to open the original file from my hard drive using just my basic Canon Digital Photo Proffesional after it was imported into LR it also states that the image is corrupted.
Now if I get out my back up disc and copy that image to my desktop and open it in Canon Digital Photo Proffesional it opens it without problem.  There is no corruption.  So the file that I backed up from my hardrive shows no corruption.  I think the original file is fine.
I then copied the image from my desktop to the original folder on my external hardrive overwriting it.  The image in lightroom is now fine.  There is no corruption.
Process of elimination leads me to believe that the corruption happens on importing into Lightroom.  It isn't my cards (different cards same problem).  It isn't my external hardrive as the file copied from that drive is fine.  It seems random especially being that I can overwrite the file with the same file and then it is fine.
I really hope this problem is sovled quickly.  This to me is a BIG deal.  Any other ideas?

Thanks, I'll think I'll go ahead and invest in a new hard drive.
I know about the jpeg preview thing.  The corruption doesn't show until you attempt until it renders the image at full size pulling from the raw.  I know it isn't a display thing as exporting the raw to a jpeg still shows the corruption.  The file is corrupted and attempting to open it with other programs shows the corruption.  It seems odd that the corruption doesn't happen when being placed on the hard drive from my camera as my back up shows no corruption.  The corruption is happening at a later point.  Would an image start out fine on a hard drive and then end up corrupting apart from any program changing it?

  • Severe corruption of .MOV files in Lightroom & unusable processing speed

    Hi all,
I run on an Intel i7 quad core, 12 GB Ram, 2 GB Graphics Card (nvidia), Raid 0, 2x512 GB Harddisk space (1 TB), Windows Vista 64bit using the latest cut of Lightroom 3.4.1 64bit.
Using a Canon 7D with latest firmware updates, for RAW/JPG/MOV - this is the only source of all files that I currently use in Lightroom.
First Question regarding corruption of .MOV files:
Once I copy my files over from the camera onto my computer, I can play all .MOV files seemlessly with no flaws or hiccups (using multiple movie players), after I import the files in the directory (this includes the .JPG's, .RAW's, and .MOV's) into Lightroom, my .MOV files no longer play on my computer, the files begin to stutter and jolt, and are completely unusable. You can imagine my frustration as I've only recently added a huge chunk of my files to be cataloged by Lightroom, resulting in the last years worth of .MOV files being corrupted and ruined.
I am wondering if anyone has had this issue before and if they've found a way to fix it? I understand I could simply un-tick the import of .MOV files (and do so from now on), but I find it baffling that Lightroom is ruining the .MOV files - as it's not actually meant to touch the original files themselves is it? It's meant to add it's own layer of things to do to that file, stored in its own catalogue never meant to actually change the original files themselves.
Second question regarding unusable processing speed:
When DEVELOPing in Lightroom (I develop on two 24" monitors, both displaying at 1920x1200) it can take anywhere between 10-20 seconds for what I'm actually doing to take effect, ie. spot removal or changing the noise levels of a photo. My catalog currently has 10438 photos in it - is this overwhelming for Lightroom?
I love Lightroom and its functionality - when I first started using it these problems didn't seem to exist, so I'm unaware if it's an update or if it's just the increase in photos it has catalog'd that're bogging it down. I would love to resolve these matters as Lightroom is definitely where I want to be.
    regards,
    Emilio

    Thanks for your response,
After what you said, in having absolutely no issue with .MOV files, I decided to ensure every drive on my computer was up-to-date and all software packages were final cut versions.
When I started playing my .MOV files (using VLC version 1.1.10 as standard), the files played fine after a graphics card update/VLC update/Windows system update/computer reboot (Lightroom NOT loaded) - So you are absolutely right, Lightroom is NOT in any way affecting my original .MOV Files, however:
When I then loaded Lightroom up, and started to then play my .MOV files (whilst Lightroom was running, and still using VLC (standard default player) (no other packages loaded), the files would begin to jolt/jitter/ struggle to play again.
If I monitor Task manager/Resources the only noticable heavy usage on Lightroom is having dedicated itself 1.7 GB of memory (not that much considering 12 GB is available), but also that clicking on any picture (whilst in grid-view, showing .CR2+.JPG as one, second monitor showing preview image) all of my 8 CPU's would spike to 90-100% for a second or so then drop down - fair enough.
I then close Lightroom and my .MOV files still don't play accurately - after a while (approx 30 minutes) my .MOV files will play seemlessly fine again.
So, I stand corrected that Lightroom is, in fact, NOT corrupting my files and regret my title choice, but is Lightroom doing something to my system which is making it hang/struggle whilst Lightroom seems to flush/go through its buffer?
Also what import preview do you set your catalog to? 1:1 then wait for it to complete the full import or standard?
Another major issue I'm having is when exporting multiple files (200+ or so), I notice the exporting process is fast initially then dramatically slows down my whole computer as all my RAM (the full 12 GB's) gets sucked up - after 60 or so photo exports Lightroom would have used the full 12 GB Ram I have available, and stopping the export does NOT free up the Ram - I need to completely close Lightroom (which then frees up the used RAM).
    Thanks in advanced

  • Corrupt or lost file

When printing a series of four photos each on letter size photo paper I hit one group of four that would not print and gave me the message that one of the JPG images "either cannot be located or is corrupt." Is there a way to determine whether there are corrupt or missing files in an Event folder before attempting to print copies or burn a CD or DVD?

Because it says it's incompatible when it can't be, I got hope. I get error messages all the time with my iPod and iPhone that it cannot sync and that 'this device is not capapble of connecting to iTunes' stuff. I literally forget that happened, plug it in again and it works, I later realize that iTunes made a mistake, they do that.

  • Corrupt or unreadable file

I just bought a new 60gb IPod. Installed ITunes and tried adding songs to my ipod. Being that this is a new installation of ITunes I did not expect any errors. Then as I connect the Ipod and try copying songs to it I get an error saying, "corrupt or unreadable file \program files\itunes\itunesprefs". Now the songs that are copied show up under the Ipod but when using my Ipod there is nothing in it.
Now i still use dial-up, i did not expect to have to update the moment i got my Ipod.

Possibly. It looks like you have a bad or incomplete iTunes install.
If resetting the .pref files does not help, then do a 'Repair Install':
    - Start menu -> Settings -> Control Panels -> Add or Remove Programs
    - Select iTunes, Select Change/Remove button, Select "Repair", Click OK
    - After it finishes, reboot the PC
COMPUTER PREPARATION for REPAIRING, INSTALLING or UNINSTALLING
Prior to Repairing, Installing or Uninstalling ANY software package, close ALL running programs. In addition, you should temporarily disable any TSR (Terminate & Stay Resident) programs like firewalls, virus scanners, spy sweepers and the like. You will need to disable them both before uninstalling ANY software and/or before installing ANY software. Most of these TSR programs have System Tray Icons (usually located in the lower-right corner of your XP screen), that allow for an ‘exit’ or ‘quit’ or ‘shutdown’. Usually a single right-click on the icon will bring up a selection menu.

Hi, This may be a common problem, I've browsed through posts here...anyway help required please! This morning I downloaded 108 photo's from my Canon EOS1000, same as I've ever done for the last few years. They seemed to load okay as they have always done, but just five minutes later I tried to open them and had this dreaded message  "Couldn’t open the file. It may be corrupt or a file format that Preview doesn’t recognize." I've checked file extensions etc. and they're all JPEG's - and the information on each photo looks similar to photos' in the stuff I downloaded last week.
Have I lost these photo's? Can they be retrieved? Of course I selected the "delete photo's from camera option on downloading.....
