Corsair: 3 DDRPro types, What should I get?

My 2x256K RAM is about 20MB-200MB short when running certain games. So Im going to get 2x512s. Corsair pros seem to be a good choice as they have very low latency.  From what I hear, low latency is how AMD users make up for not having the bandwith Intel chips have. (I know I have a 333 FSB, next year Im going to a 3200+ CPU):
However, this is confusing me. Corsair 3200PRO-series sticks seem to have three types. XL,LL, and C2.  I orignally wanted the XL bc it had the lowest latency(2-2-2-5) vs. LL (2-3-2-6), C2(2.5-3-3-6). Why all the choices?
Here what I can tell: The XL only comes in twins. The LL and C2 come seperately. The C2 can appearantly work on "intel platforms". Then it get real confusing, because if you look at the individual spec pages, only the LL mentions it can be used on "nForce 2 Ultra". Cant they all given that they all list at DDR400?
http://www.corsairmicro.com/
What should I get?  I read that DDR only makes a 3-5% difference. So I would forgo the twins, BUT they only sell the XL (2-2-2-5) latency in a twin pack. So there may be more of a gain here in the XL series.
Will I notice the difference in latency of seperately buying 2 LL(2-3-2-6) sticks over the XL(2-2-2-5) twins, or is this just a paper gain that no one really notices?
If Im doing overkill and can accomplish a gig DDR 400 at a lesser cost, please let me know. The "bling" lights on the Pro sticks is not that much of a purchase factor. I just want speed.
Sorry for the long first post. I couldnt find anything upon several searches.
FWIW: Thanks to Wonkaboy, Raven, the guy with the robot in his sig, and everyone else who contributes. I now have  the fastest and most stable computer I have ever used or owned. I had no problems bc of the compilations in the stickys. Very good work on those.

Wonkaboy conviced me that with the costs of prosticks (and a AMD3200+) I would be halfway to another system:
I went to get the same model # as min current twins (2700LL 2-2-2-5), but corsair doent make 512K 2700LL . So I had to settle for 512K 2700C2(2-3-3-6).
If I read the above link right Im only looking at a 1-2% difference anyway
The auto detect was configured 3-3-3-7   . So I went in and changed it to 2-3-3-6.  I cant get it near 2-2-2-5(but I didnt toy with voltage or any other FSB parameters).  I may try 2-3-2-6 but Im giving up after that. I tried other-lower settings but it didnt work. Again, Im to scared to start toying with the voltage, I dont know enough and dont want to fry the system.
Any comments are appreciated as far as setting the ram speed. Id like to get 2-2-2-5, but it looks like I may settle for 2-3-3-6.
My computer runs much better now that it has enough ram to not bother with page file swaping.
Thanks Wonkaboy and Raven!

I do not own an adobe product and want a one-time payment licence for students and teachers, what should I get? There are so many licenses to choose from and at least 3 lightroom licenses for students.

If all you are looking for is Lightroom, I would suggest going to your campus computer store. The computer store where I worked had Lightroom in stock. If your store doesn't have it in stock they can order it for you. There is really only one Lightroom 5 license that comes with the standalone version, student or otherwise. The program is identical either way. Licensing for the creative cloud is handled through the web and the payment method, But you aren't concerned about that.

  • Ordering a new imac, what should i get with it?

If i am ordering a new imac, what kind of things should i get with it if i'm going to have recording music as a main function? everything listed while going through the ordering process, i dont know what any of them really mean... can someone create some clarity please

I recently bought a iMac I got the 2.4 gig 20" with no extras. I picked up 4gigs of RAM for it and use a USB 2.0 hard drive for my projects. This thing is working better then I expected the processor doesn't even break a sweat using garageband. If you can hold off a few more weeks OS 10.5 (Leopard) should be here.

  • What should I get with my new S10?

I bought my S10 last month in Hong Kong, when I check the CDs inside the package, the salesperson told me it did not provide a Windows setup CD. And if I want to reset my S10, I can only use the OneKey Recovery option.
But recently, I found someone on the net said Lenovo will provide the Windows setup disk to S10 owner. Someone even said that they can request the CD from Lenovo if the Windows CD did not come with their S10.
So I just wonder if anybody know what should the situation be? Because if I can get the Windows setup disk, I would like to purchase an upgrade version of Vista to install on my S10.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Hi Sxooter,
I have an S10e and want to create an XP recovery disk just in case I scramble my system at some point! Please could you tell me how you managed to get the Lenovo recovery utilities to make an XP recovery CD on the S10? My Lenovo menu in All Programs shows Energy Management as the only option, and ThinkVantage shows just System Update.
    And for anyone...
Re. the one-key-recovery system - how on earth does one access this on the S10/S10e? There's a "OneKey Recovery" application in the Program Files->Lenovo->Applauncher directory but it just offers IE, Outlook, Media Player, Live Photo and Movie Maker!!! Very confusing.
N.B. Even my Novo button seems a bit weird - if the computer is off it just boots XP as usual, without showing QuickStart; if the computer is on it just shows the Applauncher menu; the functionality of the Novo key appears to be very different on the S10 to other IdeaPads...
    Cheers.
(Anyone else cracked up with the spellchecker on here? It suggests knickerbockers for OneKey Recovery and Deadpan for IdeaPad! Hmmm....)

  • I am an Entrepenuer as well as Business Manager related to Residential Developer and Construction, I am considering in buying a MacBook Pro 13" or an Ipad. I need advice on What should I get appropriate to my type of business?

Don't know What is best for my type of business?

The advice I give is one writes documents on a Mac while one reads documents and writes short notes on an iPad.  The iPad is great for surfing the net and is more portable but will not do heavier tasks as well as a Mac such as creating and editing documents, spreadsheets, and presentations.  The data you create is more secure on a Mac; it has better storage and backup features.  So for a read-mostly device the iPad work great but if you get into creating and editing documents then the iPad can fall short.
For a portable Mac consider a 3 lb. 13” MacBook Air or a 3.5 lb 13” Retina MacBook Pro.  For your applications they have similar capabilities and similar portability.  The non-Retina MacBook Pro weighs a lot more (4.5 lbs).

  • Here's what I need... so what should I get?

OK all you experienced mini users, I waited until the intel release, and I'm ready to get my mini... only problem is, now that I've looked at all the options, I don't know which one to buy. So I'm opening it up to you all, hoping that you can advise me a little.
Here's what I want to do with my mini:
    1. I don't play games, and I'm not looking to play them in the future.
    2. I use mail, safari/firefox, office, iLife, endnote, photoshop (rarely, and nothing too serious), etc.
    3. I've got most of my media (mp3s and video) on a large usb2 external drive. So internal HD doesn't have to be huge.
    4. I want to minimize the clutter on my desk, so airport is a must.
    5. I like the idea of the BT keyboard, but the reviews worry me a bit, and I think I'll end up with a mighty mouse.
    6. I'll use the mini for the next two or three years, and then it will become a mp3 server on my home network or perhaps a dedicated web server for my small personal website.
    7. I want a superdrive for backup and home movies.
    8. I might take advantage of an audio input to burn my LP collection, but this is a very minor concern.
With that in mind, what do you think I should be looking for?
    -Dual core?
    -Single core upgraded with SD?
    -1.42/1.5 PPC?
Right now, I'm sort of leaning towards the single core... for the price, even with the SD upgrade, I'm not convinced that I'd be significantly happier with the Core Duo.
I currently use a pre-MDD G&W G4 Power Mac (~466, 512MB RAM) and a 15" G4 PB. The desktop is about shot, but I'll continue to use the PB on campus for the next year, until I upgrade to a macbook.
I just want a small, reliable desktop mac that I can use in my home office for writing my thesis, reports, etc. and keeping my iLife media together.
Thanks in advance for the advice.
    15" PB G4 550mhz, 512mb   Mac OS X (10.4.3)

I would concur. But, I'd even push for the Core Solo, if price is a real issue for you.
On the keyboard/mouse question, I use the Apple Wireless Keyboard and really like it. (It doesn't have the top plastic cover like other Apple keyboards, so you can really vacuum it out well.) If an ethernet cable is more clutter than you want, the extra cables for the keyboard and mouse will be significant. FWIW, I bought the BlueTake BT500 Bluetooth mouse. It's really tiny, and uses up batteries like they're going out of style (but I use rechargables), but otherwise, it's very nice and since it's so small it reduces wrist fatigue.

SHOULD I KEEP THIS OR BUY ANOTHER ONE WITH 64 bit  I WANT TO USE ADOBE cs3, and will upgrade to CS4  soon.  i use primarily dreawweaver and i want to learn graphics and want to do tons of multitasking

Seems like you have very much overkill in certain areas and not enough in others. If you will be running Dreamweaver, you don't need a lot of RAM! If, on the other hand you will be using Photoshop, you need a lot of RAM. I've been using Photoshop since 1992 and the more RAM the better, up to about 6 GIGs, then it really doesn' make much of a difference. As for the Graphics cards, not sure why you need 2?? I use Photoshop professionally and have never needed 2. As for the RAM, the graphics cards have their own RAM built in and it should not rob from you system. I use a Quad processor HP running Vista 64 bit. Photoshop flys, as do my other programs. However, I will tell you, if you change to 64 bit, be prepared to upgrade most all of your software, and on top of that, a lot of software is not capitable with 64 bit at this time. I played Hell getting my system set up running 64 bit. If you are not going to be using Photoshop, which is RAM hungry, you do not need more that 4 gigs of RAM.

  • What should I get, a macbook or a macbook pro?

I am going to buy a laptop and I would like either a Macbook or a Macbook Pro - money is no issue for either. However, I don't know what I should buy, a Macbook or a Macbook pro (the 13" one, not 15 or 17").
Okay, now I know what you're thinking since the Macbook Pro is so much better than the plastic macbook.
    But the thing is:
    1. In the Apple Store, the Macbook Pro's keyboard seems so much...how do I put this..."looser" than the Macbook's. I don't know if this is regular of if this is just because it is a Macbook Pro in the Apple Store that people use every day all day.
    2. I have heard that because the Macbook Pro is aluminum, it does not detect as many wifi networks as the Macbook does.
One more question: I know how to replace keys on the Macbook, but how does it work with the Macbook Pro? Is it exactly the same? Could I put Macbook keys on a Macbook Pro?

BobTheFisherman, it does exist. But I don't know how bad it is. Is it worth getting a Macbook instead?
I think your decision should be based on other criteria such as already mentioned, memory, speed, hd, display, etc., not on wifi. Wifi is the same on either. I travel around the world on business and have never had any problems connecting via wifi with my Macbook Pro. For that matter, when I traveled with my PCs I also never had any problems. Mind you I did run across the occasional hotel that had poorly set up their wifi but that was the exception not the rule.
So to summarize, my PC laptops and my Macbook Pro all connect well via wifi regardless of where I am except when the wifi is poorly configured by the owner. I've never experienced problems where having a plastic computer would connect and an aluminum one would not.

  • In the market for a new iMac - -What should i get???

Im planning on getting one of the new iMacs, yet I am very on the fence about which one I should get- the 20 inch or the 17 inch.
Which will have the better graphics, and by how much?
How much faster will the 20 inch be? (Both would be with 1gb of ram)
Does the 20 inch look bulky and clunky compared to the 17?
    Any help is appreciated, thanks.

It really depends on what you like, and how much money you can shell out. I would recommend looking at and using them in person at a local apple store if at all possible. I doubt the speed difference is noticable. Also, if you are using a monitor larger than 17 inches now, you might be disapointed with a 17 inch. It seems to be a much harder adjustment going from a big screen to smaller screen than small to big. I went with the 20 inch because right now I use a 19, and whenever I have to use anything smaller it drives me insane and i feel like I have no work space. Most people are perfectly happy with a 17 inch if they don't care about screen realestate or are not used to working on anything larger. I'd say go with the 20 if you can afford it, but if the screen size is not an important factor, you'll probably be happy with a 17.

  • What should i get HD7970 or GTX680. Please help

    Hi Guys.
I'm new here and I could really use some help.
I have a Asus Gtx560 Ti. and I'm thinking of upgrading to GTX680 or HD7970 the problem is i don't know witch one is more suitable to me..
I'm Professional video editor. I work on premiere, AE, 3ds max. Since Nvidia has it's CUDA feature; its obviously clear that i should get Gtx680 BUT..
What really got me scratching my head and thinking is that Nvidia has took the chunk of its compute power away..
Would the Gtx680 be the best choice for me.
Please help guys I'm dizzy now and i can't think clearly.
    Thanks in advance

Thanks for your help, I think i'm going to get the GTX 680 since i'm trying to improve the rendering and exporting speed.
    But I have few Q.
The Quadro 4000 has 256 cuda cores, the 680 has 1500+, how does this compare ?
Is the 2-3 year old quadro really still better then the new GTX 680?
    Thanks.
For Premiere, the Quadro 4000 is actually significantly slower than the GTX 680. In fact, it is slower than even your current GTX 560 Ti - that is, the Quadro 4000 performs more like a cheapo GeForce GTX 460 SE in Premiere. But for 3D design programs such as 3Ds Max, the Quadro generally performs better than any GeForce due in large part to the less-than-robust OpenGL support in the GeForce drivers.

Also I'm not looking to get the MacBook Pro to show off to my friends I like it because of its probability. So maybe could you list a few pros and cons for me so I can see what one would suit me bet?
P.S. I know the iMac is cheaper but money is not a problem so don't put that down as a con for the MacBook pro please?

I don't know much about MBAs but if they are part of the generation of things where it is not easy to upgrade then I'd go with the higher.  4GB doesn't sound like much to me for newer operating systems (mine is almost 10 years old and I have 2GB).  RAM tends to be one of the most desirable upgrades to continue to get life out of your purchase and if limited is one of the first things to cut you out of future system upgrades.  If you can't upgrade RAM at a later date then definitely go for higher.  Another thing is, even if you can update later, go for more now.  New computers don't let you add things, you have to remove old and completely  replace with new. When I upgraded RAM in mine it was a matter of buying a new chip and put it in next to the other. I had 1GB and paid for another 1.  In your case it will be a matter (if you can) of taking out the old, tossing it, then buying all 8 GB new (sort of buying your old 4GB a second time).
