  • Corsair XMS 3500 + MSI 865PE Neo2 = :(

I have no clue what to do now. I just upgraded my 2500+ Barton and Nforce2 board. I ordered a MSI 865PE Neo2-s , 2 sticks of Corsair XMS 3500 memory and a P4 2.4c.
However, when I install the memory, it refuses to post, but with PC2100 memory (@266 ) it posts and continues to run windows. I manually set the timings for the corsair memory, and set it to 333. Nothing.
This board has the orginial 1.0 bios and I was thinking of trying the 1.1 or 1.2. Other wise I will have to get another board, and I am tight on cash, after buying all this stuff.
    Anyone????

@JeffPH, once again : the TS does not have an i875 based board, so no BIOS 1.6 for him.
@TS, you can flash to 1.3 but i doubt it would do you any good.

  • PAT and 865PE NEO2

Does the 865PE NEO2 board support "Performance Acceleration Technology"?
    Matt

    See this link:
    http://www17.tomshardware.com/motherboard/20030603/865_PAT-04.html#technology_in_detail_how_pat_functions_with_the_intel_865
Intel's PAT (intel made msi call it MAT) was intended for Canterwood 875 chipset only, but due to poor chip logic design on the 875, PAT can be fooled into operating on the 865 (springdale)which is a 'downgraded' or purposefully binned Canterwood.  The 865 was originally intended to capture a lower priced market segment of chipsets.  Intel originally claimed it (the springdale) also was the result of performance binning of the Canterwood.

  • 865PE Neo2-FIS2R and Geil memory problem

With 512MB (2x256) of Corsair XMS 3700, the system is perfectly stable (runs 24/7 crunching for UD, also have done Prime95 torture test).
With 1-GB (2x512) of Geil PC4000 Ultra Platinum, the system is very unstable.  It usually won't even boot fully into Windows without a BSOD (which vary) or if it does get into Windows it crashed soon thereafter.
If I put the Corsair memory back in (like I have them right now, to be able to use the system to post this message), the system is back to 100% stable, so it seems to be entirely a memory-related problem.

Have run MemTest standard test on the Geil modules individually and as a pair, and have tried different slots.  Testing thus far shows no errors when each module is installed separately, but when used in a pair there are sometimes errors shown.
Have tried the modules in slots 1,3 and slots 2,4 with no difference.
Have tried setting DDR voltage from 2.70 up to 2.85v for the Geil (approved up to 2.9v) with no apparent change in stability.
Have tried changing Spread Spectrum setting between enabled and disabled.  Disabled seems to be better, but problem remains.
Have tried using SPD disabled with settings listed above, and SPD enabled (which sets timings at 2.5-4-4-8,8).
Edit: I'd asked for advice, but then realized that the very limited timeframe in which I could return the Geil would expire if I waited beyond business hours today.  So I've RMA'd the Geil and have ordered a 1-GB Corsair TwinX XMS 3700 pack instead.

I've had similar problems to you but with Corsair TwinX LL's and if you read back a month in this forum you will see others have also with various memories on the 865 FISR.
The fix I found was Kingston memory but others have had problems with Kingston.    There was a thread running a week or two ago attempting to document successful memory mobo combinations.
Bottom line, stick with what works on your mobo until MSI fix the incompatability/instability issues.

  • 865PE Neo2-P Platinum Edition and P4 3.2 fsb800 memory and colers

Hello guys is my first time in this forum
I buy a MSI 865PE Neo2-P Platinum Edition and a P4 3.2 Box Northood Fsb 800 with the cooler on.
My question is what Cooler is better than the box one from Intel?
What 512 memory are work perfect on this sistem?
    thanks
    Paulo

    hi Tritek,
    welcome to the forum.
    1. do your system have problem with heat? What is the CPU temperature read? Is the stock fan too loud for you? There are lots of cooler out there, expensive one especially, are way better than Intel stock cooler. But do you need better cooler?
    2. any 512MB DDR works. To work "perfect", you need DDR400 to fully utilize it.

  • 865PE Neo2-PLS users running on Prescott 3.0Ghz and above please come in

It's showing garbage for the cpu voltage in my bios and for those who read my previous posts know what I mean as I had posted the pictures before. I have flashed with different bios ver, tested using different psu, graphics, rams but no luck. Tested using different cpu on my mobo, the voltage showing correctly but they are northwood as I can't find spare prescott to test on my mobo.
I just called intel support to RMA and told them it's problem with the processor but I can't convince them
They want me to test my cpu on another mobo to test it out first but I can't find a spare 1
Anyone experienced garbage reading for cpu voltage so far using this mobo with prescott 3.0Ghz and above? Thanks

Well sad to say I forgot to ask them at the distro center haha coz I thought the problem lies on my mobo and hoping to get 1-1 exchange but when they showed me correct reading for the voltage when they tested my mobo using other cpu, I'm lost trying to figure out what could be the problem you see...
I did mail them today asking did they test my mobo using a prescott but I guess the earliest I can get their reply is tomorrow as they are closed today. Well I might be paying them another visit and ask them to test my prescott on other mobo as well the it's far from where I'm staying
Anyway now I just want to know if any users using this 865PE Neo2 P series mobo showing garbage for cpu voltage when using prescott 3.0Ghz and above to confirm. I guess I'm the only 1 so far haha

  • [Other 865 Series] MSI 865PE Neo2-V and Dual Channel Mode Question

Hello, I have a quick question regarding dual channel mode with my current motherboard. I have an MSI 865PE Neo2-V and am wondering if it is possible to enable dual channel mode while having three RAM modules inserted in the motherboard.
For example, I currently have one 512MB PC3200 module in my computer. If I purchase another 512MB module and run them in dual channel mode, will it be possible to buy a 1GB module or another size module, and still have all three slots run in dual channel mode? Or is dual channel only operational on this motherboard if only two of the three slots are occupied?
    Thanks.

Dual channel requires an even number of sticks.

  • Problem with NIC and Firewire on MSI 865PE NEO2-PFISR

Hi, I have lots of trouble getting the network adapter on the MSI 865PE NEO2-PFISR to work.
The NIC's LED indicators doesnt even light up when I plug in a network cable,
and in windows (win 2003 server) it doesnt find the adapter at all.
The NIC is displayed in the bios, and I have the option to disable it,
    but it is enabled.
I have even reinstalled windows 2003 server to try to get the NIC to work.
I have upgraded the bios to v3.8 via live update, with no problems, although the
firewire-option on the same page in the bios is still gone, it doesnt detect the
    firewire at all(!).
    I have also tried several other NIC's (a 3COM 3C905B TX and a 3C905B TX XL
PCI adapter). The 3C905B TX worked fine for a while, and then it started saying in
windows that a network cable was unplugged, and began to try 10mbit, 100mbit
lots of retries, now it doesnt work at all.
I swapped tp-cables and changed the ports on the network switch (which there is
also other computers attached to which doesnt have any problems) and that didnt
    made any difference.
It seems that the whole pci bus is long gone, and maybe the onboard NIC is
attached to this same pci bus?
Strange also about the firewire-controller which isnt detected anymore.
The USB devices work, and even a 3com usb wlan adapter works well.
I have tried to reset the bios several times without that making a difference.
Anybody have a clue to point out here?
    Cheers!

I returned the motherboard to the reseller and got a new motherboard as a replacement. This doesnt have all the same problems. At first it didnt post at all, indicating to red lights on the diagnosis.
Then I was so pissed I hadnt touched the computer in a week, and just tried to use it a few days ago, and it seemed to work all ok. I used it for a few hours, and then it locked up.
When I powered it up again, the lights on the integrated adapter was out. At first it seemed to work to take the agp card a little out of its slot, as if it was unaligned or something. Used it for a few more hours.
Then I plugged in the sound cables (5.1 sound with 3 cables), and with the last cable, the network darkened out AGAIN!!
In the bios it still indicates that the network is enabled, firewire is enabled etc.
I twisted the network cable, and for a few microseconds I get a orange light, not the usual green light. Now this has stopped too.
I see other also have problems with these symptoms so I guess I've got another black monday card.
I will return this card too, and ask the reseller to get a card of another brand.

  • 865PE Neo2-PFS Platinum and PCI-e

    Hello,
I am using a 865PE Neo2-PFS Platinum atm, with an AGP slot GFX card. (9800 pro).
I want to upgrade to PCI-e and want a few pointers for a decent socket 478 board that is PCI-e ready. I don't want to have to change my CPU.
    many thanx.

    Indeed...
I was just pointing out that even the fastest agp card is lots slower then a midrage pci-e card.
I still think any upgrade to the agp system is a waste of money. CPU limitation  ... 478 P4's rly aren't fast enough to feed modern gpu's
In case he still wants a agp card
the 7800GS is the obvious choise, and you might want to check out albatron's 7600GS agp card.
EDIT: this socket 478 asrock board has a pcie slot http://www.asrock.com/product/P4Dual-915GL.htm (don't forget to read the VGA card compatibility list on that page)

  • MSI 865PE Neo2-V and 1GB RAM stick, compatibility?

    Hi all,
I've just bought a new mainboard, the MSI 865PE Neo2-V... I read that supports up to 3GB of DDR333, so now I want to buy 2 new RAM modules.
    These modules has the specific:
     - 184 memory pins
     - 1GB RAM
     - PC2700 DDR 333MHz
     - 2.5 Module
     - Non-ECC, Non-Parity
     - CAS latency 2.5
     - 128 x 64 High density
Can I mount these RAM on my motherboard? On the photo, the RAM has 16 chips of ram; it seems to be "High density" RAM.
    Thanks,
    Alessandro.

Romulus76, the answer is YES for the chipset; but NOT SURE for the BIOS. I must ask MSI.

    hey all,
i was just wondering if anyone who has the 865pe neo2 LS version of the board have the xp-120. on thermalright's site it says it doesn't fit, but when i emailed the customer service, they said that it fits. so anyone who knows about this or has it installed on their LS, please let me know so i can get one. Thank you in advance.

I heard from some people here that it fits if you bend the capacitor or something like that but i am not 100 per cent sure.

  • 865PE Neo2 -FIS2R Problems

    I purchased a brand new MSI 865PE Neo2-FISR along with a P4 2.4C(OEM), a Thermaltake Spark 5c cooler and a Corsair XMS Twinpack(TWINX512-3200C2PT) of DDR400 memory.
The install went fine, the system booted and ran very well right out of the box.  I installed the Live Update program from MSI and it updated itself.  I then used that utility to generate a BIOS flash/recovery disk to update the bios from 1.10 to 1.30.  The update worked fine and I rebooted the machine into Windows XP with no problems.
I then decided to do some tweaking in the new 1.3 BIOS.  After several unsuccessful memory/Dynamic Overclocking settings the system refused to boot.  I tried the Clear CMOS jumper to reset the defaults but it still would not boot.  I checked the D-Bracket, 3 red 1 green(lower right) which indicates that the video card is not initializing.  I attempted reseating the video card (a PNY Geforce4 TI4200) with no luck, I then replaced that card with a GeForce4 MX440 SE with no luck.  I tried four other video cards, 2 AGP and 2 PCI, with no success.
At this point I pulled the board out of the system and let it sit with the battery out of the board hoping that the BIOS would reset to default values.  I reinstalled the board with all the hardware and again the same D-Bracket error with no video generated.  I tried different arrangements of memory using the new Corsairs and various other DDR333 & DDR266 again no luck.
What is going on with this thing?  How could an errant timing change completely lock out the VGA card?  And why can I not clear the settings to allow the card to initialize?
This thing is getting RMA'd soon if I can't find an answer.
Anyone have any ideas or similiar troubles? X(

  • 865PE Neo2 FIS2R

Hello all. I've searched the forums and read alot of posts about my problem, but seem to be missing the information I am looking for. Let me tell you what is going on. I have the MSI 865PE Neo2 FIS2R mobo ver 1, P4 3.0 800FSB, 1 gig corsair twinx XMS 3200 CL2. My problem is when I try to use this RAM my system will not start. No Post, nothing and the D-bracket shows me memory error code. If I use a strip of crucial from my other PC everything works fine (the crucial is 333mhz at 512mb, cl3). I checked out the RAM compatability report on the MSI site and it was pretty confusing to me. I guess my question is, is my RAM compatible or is there a work around to using the XMS modules?
    Other components are as follows:
    ATI Radeon 9800XT (256)
    48xCD-RW
    80gig WD drive (PATA)
    431w Enermax PSU
Thanks in advance for your help.

    Hi Dink,
great to see someone who has the same config as I have.
    My System:
    865PE NEO2 FIS2R (Bios 1.8)
    CORSAIR TWINX1024-3200C2PRO
    ATI Radeon 9800XT
My system is running very stable with Ram-Settings at 2-3-3-6-8 in Turbo/Sergeant. Pls set your timings to these values. This should work.
Now a question to you. I have problems with the ATI 9800XT cards.
    1) Do you also see stuttering or lags when running 3DMark2001SE? With ATI 9800XT Reference Cards I experience these lags also in the overlay mode and in Games when turning very fast (egoshooters). You can see what I mean when you install this little tool which changes the background of your WinXP desktop to a psychedelic wormhole: http://www.geisswerks.com/drempels/index.html
After you start this funny tool. Watch out for your desktop. If it isn't runnin 100% smooth you have the same problems as I have. The only 9800XT card which isn't causing this stuttering is the ASUS 9800XT. Could you pls. tell me if you also see these lags? You can increase the stuttering by copying some files from Dir1 to Dir2.
These lags have no impact of benchmark results!
    2) Pls could you tell me what's the IRQ of your card? 16? Is it shared with the USB Controller?
    3) Who is the manufacturer of your card? Ati itself or Hercules, HIS or Saphire??
If you cannot see this stuttering I would bet you have a ASUS.

  • MSI 865PE NEO2-V showing wrong RAM timings

    Hi
I have a MSI 865PE NEO2-V motherboard with Corsair TWINX2048-3200C2 DDR-DIMM 2048MB Kit w/two matched CMX1024-3200C2 DIMMs now and try to put the timings of the RAM to 2-3-3-6 in the bios.
According to http://www.corsairmemory.com/corsair...h_results.html it should work ok...but its not.
When i check the timings with CPU-Z it shows 3-4-4-8 instead.
    The SPD is 3-3-3-8.
I have checked so they are in Dual channel and i have put the RAM voltage to 2.75V after i tried with the default voltage, but to no avail.
To be extra certain i ran Everest Ultimate and it showed the exact timings.
The RAM run fine with StressPrime and Prime95 but i get bad results in SiSoft Sandras RAM benchmarks.
    What is going on????

    Hi
    Yeah, it get slow results.
    I have a Intel Prescott 3.2Ghz with FSB800.
I see now that the link uses Java script, its in Corsairs search engine on their site.
    Their recomendations for the set of RAM i have is: TWINX2048-3200C2 / DDR-400 (XMS-3200C2) / 2-3-3-6 .
I have tried to set the timings as you said but it still runs at 3-4-4-8 whatever i set it at.
I have it running at 2-3-3-6 on another motherboard so i think it must be some settings in the BIOS that i set wrong on this one, but i cant figure it out.
Could it be that somethings wrong with the Performance Mode (MAT) settings?
I tried it on and off, I have also reseted the BIOS to default and even removed the CMOS battery for a while.
I paste all the info from the Corsair site here:
