Cost Approval workflow in Project Server (PWA) 2013

Dear All,
Is there any automation through which we can build some kind of Approval stages in PWA 2013 (Project Server) so that if any Manager wants to get approval on PO(Purchase Order) or some kind of approval related to Cost then it should flow in PWA?

Just to clarify, are you looking to create a project in PWA once a PO has been approved? If that's the case you can use the 'Create Projects' option available in Project Server 2013. Also you can create the projects through the SharePoint workflows

    I am also experiencing issues with this.  After the approval task is completed, the Workflow gets cancelled with the following message
    RequestorId: 60d96368-4cb4-b059-8086-604972a92e60. Details: System.Collections.Generic.KeyNotFoundException: The given key was not present in the dictionary. at Microsoft.Activities.Hosting.Runtime.Subroutine.SubroutineChild.Execute(CodeActivityContext context)
    at System.Activities.CodeActivity.InternalExecute(ActivityInstance instance, ActivityExecutor executor, BookmarkManager bookmarkManager) at System.Activities.Runtime.ActivityExecutor.ExecuteActivityWorkItem.ExecuteBody(ActivityExecutor executor, BookmarkManager
    bookmarkManager, Location resultLocation)
    All other desired workflow actions work as expected.  Emails are sent, project is moved from stage to stage, however as soon as the workflow approval task is completed, either Approved or Rejected, the Internal Status is changed to Canceled and the
    workflow fails.
    What is interesting is when the Approval task is completed, the approver will receive an email notification that the task was CANCELLED or DELETED....
    not COMPLETED, which is what would be expected.
    Has anyone seen this - any potential resolution?

    I've got an issue with publishing my projects on pwa 2013.
    At first it seems that everything is in good
    order but after
    we realize that instead of the total
    hours allocated to the milestone is
    equal to 0.
    Then we go
    on the project, we edit it and
    publish it again, ma it appears the following screenshot:
    How can I fix this issue? In my queue Jobs itdoesn't
    appears nothing to indicate the failure to publish.

    We've installed Service Pack 1 on our Project Server 2013,
    at first it seemed
    to have solved the problembut today it
    has come back again.
    We realized it because the report of TimesheetActualshad less hours than expected
    and we found that this
    difference was due to the non-publication
    of the project.
    Do you have any other ideas??

    I've got a little question, is it possible to send an email when a new update appears in the "Approval Center" (PWA/Approvals.aspx) ? And if yes, how can I do this ?
    I've tried with a workflow (in the "Project Server Workflow Tasks" list) but it does not seem to work.

    Ditto on what Hrishi suggests.
    I would use a SQL query that search new approvals and when it finds one, then send an email. After the query is written, use SSIS (Sql Server Integration Services) and create a job to manage this. There are probably several goods SQL
    administrators that could set this up for you.

    Let's verify the following:
    Whether the issue exists in all of the users? Done a test with a user with full control permission, compare the results. 
    What is the current SP\CU version installed on Server? deploy the latest CU, compare the results.
    Whether the issue exists in other browsers, done a test in another browser, compare the results.
    Whether all resources experiencing this error.
    "An Unknown Error has occurred" is a generic error message. Please check ULS log for more detail information about the issue.
    In addition, as this issue is related to project server, I suggest you create a new thread on project server, more experts will assist you:

  • Error Message while Approving Tasks in Project Server 2010

    Hi All,
    While performing Tasks approvals in MS Project 2010 I am getting below error message:
    An Error Occured while processing one or more items. This was caused by one of the following:
    A timesheet job is failed and blocking coorelation in the queue.
    The approval item no longer exists or has already been approved
    The host server is unreachable.
    Following are the details of the error message found in Event Viewer:

    Hi, Can you give a bit more detail on how your generating the task approval. Are you going into myTasks and doing self assignment to your test project plans or are you generating these approvals via outlook or are you updating a timesheet and sending status?

  • How To Control the Langauge of BI Reports (Using Excel 2013, oData, and Project Server Online 2013)

    Although I buried and posted the following question indirectly in a recent post, I would like to do so here to try and elevate it in the hope that I can get an answer.
    It is in regards to creating reports using Excel 2103 to querry Project Server 2013 Online using oData.  I would like to be able to control the langauge of my reports that I create for others to view.
    Just creating and then saving the Report and Data Connections in a language directory does not seem to drive or determine the language of the report.  A colleague of mine over here is using the same directories as I am, and his turn
    out to be French like his environment.  Mine, even though I save the files in same the French directories, display in English. 
    Any ideas on how I can create reports so that they display in another language, eg., French when using Excel to create reports?  I know that we can set the language in an internet browser to control the language that the result is returned, for instance,
    when querying https://.../pwa/_api/ProjectData/$metadata

    Correction!  Thanks to Doug Welsby of Microsoft and some our other MS friends who worked behind the scenes to correct/ assist me on this, I got the right answer after all... the difference between, example a French oData command/ statement,
    and an English one is the inclusion of the square brackets with the language abbreviation/ code e.g., "[Fr..]" in the oData connection string/ statement.  For further reference, see the connection files provided by Microsoft in the Reports and
    compare the syntax for the same report/ different language.  There is where you will see what and how Excel is able to differentiate/ control what language that the report result will return.

    I was writing about Process alignment concept for my org. At one instance , something came in my mind that if we create 5 different Projects called as Enterprise Project Template then how we can assign Predecessors to task as all these 5 EP having some task
    which are connected with each other for scheduling .
    So is there any possibility to connect them from each other w.r.t Task even though they are separate EP templates in PWA 2013?

    If I understood your question correctly, the tasks in 5 project plans can be linked (via MS Project) once the projects have been created based on the project plan templates (the links will not be saved correctly in the project plan templates).
    An alternative would be to create and event handler/some custom code to link of the tasks in the 5 projects, once the project have been created based on the project plan templates. The question would be (mainly for your processes) how would the projects
    be identified or maybe you already have an order in which the projects are created?

  • Updating custom fields in project server 2010/2013 using psi

    Hi,
    I have two custom fields . Lets call them A and B.
    A has some content. Now i want B to have the same content as A . B is a formula custom field wher b=[A] .
    now b is empty data and A has data.
    how do i get column in B be populated.
    i tried manual publish. IT worked but i have several projects.so iam looking for a script to do bulk publish so that data in B can be populated with data in A
    a) i checked out project (CheckOutProject)
    b) published project (QueuePublish())
    c) checked in project (QueueCheckInProject())
    however i donot get the value of A reflected in B using. Am i doing something wrong?
    Pls help.Any pointers towards a script would behighly appreciated.

    Hello,
    You probably want to use Project Pro to do the publish so the calculation happens and updates field B. For bulk publish using project pro use VBA to automate project pro to open each project then do save and publish etc.

  • Help needed Regarding Project Server - 2013 Workflow

    Hi All,
    I am new to Project server 2013 Workflow, hence please help me regarding this. Pardon me if this question is too trivial. 
    I have created a project type associated with a workflow and my workflow is as follows :
    So I am not doing anything here, I am just testing the workflow as mentioned by technet site : http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dn458865(v=office.15).aspx
    But it is mentioned that, after a minute or 2, the workflow state will change, also they have mentioned to press the Submit button.
    But in my case, the workflow is not moving to next stage [It just says 'The workflow is still processing - which never changes after hours] or I am getting the submit button (Submit button is disabled on the ribbon). Below is the state of my workflow :
    PS : I have made the user added to Portfolio managers group as well. But still I am having this same issue. 
    The Workflow manager is installed properly, and it is working fine in case of List workflow. I am facing the issue only wrt Site workflow for Project server 2013.
    Please help me to solve this issue.

    Hi Kiran,
    I am now facing issue while assigning a task to a person in the workflow.
    I am having a person named say 'John' , who is included in Project Manager as well as Portfolio Manager.
    And I am using a workflow as :
    Stage : Conceptual
    Assign a task to John (Task outcome to Variable: Outcome5 | Task ID to Variable: TaskID3 )
    Transition to stage
    Go to Approval
    But this is again giving issue as :
    Workflow Internal status : Cancelled
    Details: System.ApplicationException: HTTP 401 {"error":{"code":"-2147024891, System.UnauthorizedAccessException","message":{"lang":"en-US","value":"Access denied. You do not have
    permission to perform this action or access this resource."}}}
    PS : I have used the same Sharepoint admin account for 'Account Name' in ‘User Profile Sync' , Is this causing the issue? Please let me know.

  • Submit button grayed out in Project server 2013 WorkFlow

    We published the Workflow in project server'13 through SharePoint desginer 2013 and we used the Microsoft sample workflow. after saving the project information Submit button is in disable mode. So can any body clarify this issue ?
    we tried  the re provisioned the PWA through the above article but still submit button is in grayed out mode.
    Please clarify me where i am wrong?

    Open your site in SharePoint Designer
    Expand the "Workflows" folder, and the folder containing the workflow you want to fix
    Right-click on the file that ends in "xoml.wfconfig.xml"
    Choose Open With -> SharePoint Designer (Open as XML)”
    Look for the “RulesVersion” attribute
    Change its value to “V1.0”
    Save the xml file
    If you modify the workflow again, you’ll have to change the “RulesVersion” attribute again before saving as an STP as changing the workflow increments this
    attribute value which has to be reset to "V1.0".

    What you are looking for is a State-Machine Workflow. In SharePoint 2013 Designer, the "Stages" model will allow you to do this. See my example below. However, if you workflow logic is overly complex,  Visual Studio might be a better tool to build the
    workflow.

    Check your User Profiles and make sure that the user's domain is correct. We've seen workflows suspend with 401 errors when the User Profile Service syncs with AD and pulls the wrong domain name - for
    example if your FQDN is corp.company.com and the user logs in with company\username, UPS might have corp\username instead. Hence a 401 error...
