Not sure what more you want?  What exactly do you want to know?
Depending on what you want to view The AppleTv can be a one time cost or have associated subscription, or purchase costs. But it depends entirely on what you plan to view on it.

  • How much computing horsepower do I really need to use iMovie?

How much computing horsepower do I really need to use iMovie effectively?  I'm trying to make a one-hour movie from HD camcorder clips and still images.  My iMac 24 with Intel Core 2 Duo running at 2.33 GHz and 2 GB of RAM severely bogs down and regularly locks up or crashes.  Now that I've painfully managed to insert all of the video clips and still images, my iMac won't play the video back smoothly so that I can edit the work.  Within a second or two, the video either stops or becomes extremely jerky, while the audio continues to play.
Do I really need an $8000 MacPro 12-Core computer running at 3.3 GHz, with 32 GB of RAM, twin, 2 TB hard drives, and a $1000 27-inch Apple display, or will something less costly work fine for producing videos?
    Thanks for any advice,
    Joe

Thanks for your reply, Klaus1.  I'm currently running Snow Leopard.  I'd considered upgrading to Lion but was told, even by Apple, that I wouldn't be satisfied with its slow performance on my iMac 24.
I have plenty of hard drive space with 160 GB available on my internal hard drive, but I've been storing the archived video clips and the iMovie projects on a fire-wired, external 2 TB drive.  Could it be that using an external hard drive for the iMovie project is part of the performance problem?
A quick check on the Apple website shows that my iMac 24, which was manufactured in mid-2007, can support up to 4 GB of RAM.  I wonder if I should consider a RAM upgrade before upgrading the entire computer.  How big a deal is it to replace RAM in the iMacs?

  • How much MBs of "SDRAM" do i need? Also, differnece between 2.16GHz?

To do photo editing, VERY MILD video editing, and some 3D gaming (but not HARDCORE 24/7) how much MBs of SDRAM do i need? Are the 128MB (or some near amount) of SDRAm enough???
    Q2::::
What is the difference between 2.16GHz and 2.33GHz?
What can i do with the 2.33 that i cant do with the "2.16"?
I WILL RATE GOOD ANSWERS, GO!

Rendering video does not use the video card since those are not done in real time, so improved video card will not improve video rendering for large processes (although it might help display them).
The difference between 2.33 and 2.16 is almost unnoticeable and there's nothing you can do with one you cant do with the other. They've been making chips for 30 years with slight differences like this and the best 'bang for your buck' is almost always the lower speed, the fastest is more for computer addicts to always want the best regardless of whether they can use it.

  • How much space does iPages for iPhone need?

The best part is I already have iPages on my MacBook and iMac.  That program lets me do so much, but what can it do on the iPhone, and how much space will it consume?  I know it's relatively new to iPhone users, but just curious if anyone is using it on that device and whether or they have any comments.  Thanks in advance!

    Hi Allan S,
I have looked at that, but I guess I really have another question, if you can help.
Can documents on the iPhone be transferred to my home iMac or MB via syncing besides via Mail? I'm still contemplating iWork.com; as I still need more information before using that medium.
(Definitely not via iCloud. I had a very bad experience with my first trial at using iCloud, and will not use it again unless something can be done about the huge battery drain problem on older iPhone 4's running iOS 5. That's another issue all by itself.)

  • How much hard drive space does Tiger need to be installed?

I have a small hard drive that I want to set up as a boot drive. What is the minimum disk space required to install Tiger? Thanks.

For an emergency boot drive 20GB will work, possibly even a 10GB if you omit several unused Languages & Printer drivers.
While a finished install may end up only 2.5 GB, during installation many temp & VM files are used, possibly as much as 10GB for a 2.5 GB install.
IMO, 20GB is not enough for use on anything but Emergency use.
If you're not going to install from your Optical, how are you going to do it?

  • IPhone 4 cases:  How much protection do you think it needs?

Got my iPhone 4. Luckily, it works perfectly so far.
But I do think the phone looks much more fragile and breakable than my old 3G.
Now, I don't mind a thin, attractive case because I'm slightly clutzy and it's gonna drop out of my pocket a few times, this I know.
So I bought a case from a mall vendor that's no name but seems well made -- thin silicone that covers the back and the sides. $15. Do I need to do better?
My question(s) to everyone are... how thick and sturdy do you think we need to go to protect the iphone 4 from a drop? And what is the best case material for withstanding a fall? Is there something you've found that is not too bulky and industrial looking -- or does it need to be thick and padded to be truly protective?
And can I avoid spending $30 on a case (or that Apple bumper thing) and feel like my phone is protected?
I know nothing about this stuff so would love some opinions. Thanks!

  • How much back-up memory do I need?

I've got 160 Gigs on my Macbook, so how big of a back-up drive do I need. Is one Terabyte overkill?

All of you are SO helpful. I love this Forum for that reason. You guys are not just smart
Not so much (in my case, anyway). It's just that we've learned, often the hard way!
I wouldn't even mind if once a week it backed up everything and got rid of its other backups, as long as it's got a current one in there.
99% of the time, that would be fine with most of us. Until we change or delete the wrong thing, use Save instead of +Save As,+ or find that a file's been corrupted. Then being able to restore a previous version from a couple of hours earlier, in a matter of a minute or two from Time Machine . . . whew, what a relief!
Or until our internal HD fails (and they all do, eventually). Then realizing all we have to do is get the disk replaced, then re-load the entire system from a TM backup; instead of installing OSX from the Leopard Install disc, then load the updates, then find and re-load all our 3rd-party apps (hope we have a record of purchase keys!), re-do the configuration, set-up email again, re-set preferences and settings, pray for the data, . . . priceless!

  • How much extra space does time machine need to backup a 512gig drive?

... in practice, how big does my backup drive need to be for 512gig primary drive?
I know time machine does "snap shots". I can imagine this takes extra space over and above 512gig.
    What's your experience here?
    Thanks

Any other solutions to this quandary?
Yes, go with a smaller drive and be content to have oldest backups deleted more often.
If you don't need hourly backups, you can get a smaller disk and clone with SuperDuper or CarbonCopy Cloner. You can schedule a backup nightly, if that enough.
The advantage of having a clone is that it is bootable in case you run into trouble on your internal, you can boot from the external and keep right on working until you have the time to fix it. You can also run repair programs from that disk.

  • How Much SSD do I need

I am a kid, looking to buy his first MacBook Air, and I am wondering how much SSD am I going to need.  I am very limited money, so I want to buy what's right for me.  This computer is going to be used for personal and school work.  I currently have a Windows PC with 37 gb in it, and I used 20 GB so far.  I want to add more programs, and on my mac I want add programs such as Xcode, and Lion takes up 4GB.  For school,  I want to use it easily for video editing, projects, etc. I want a couple games or so on my mac, but I have an iPod Touch for that.  I am not very extreme on games for my computer.   Would 64 GB okay? Thanks

Your best option is to get the 64GB, then get yourself an external usb drive if you need to store more information.
You will definitely want a backup hard drive as well to back up both the internal SSD drive and the external USB drive.
Amazon, Newegg, and Frys all have good deals on external hard drives.  I picked up a 320GB portable external Seagate drive for $39 from Frys today as an example.
You will want to keep at least 5-10GB of free space on your Air, so when you start to get closer to that number, get the external drive to store stuff on.

Does anyone know where to find and how to add them?
    thanks,

You need to ues the text tool from the toolbox. Simply click it and put it on a location you would like to create a text layer.  Once created you can use the selection tool to move it around.

  • How much free space do you need?

We have a year old Xsan system that we use for video editing. It's relatively small - two stations attached via fiber. We use one side of an Xserve RAID chassis for all of the media, and the other side for metadata.
How much hard drive space do we need to keep as head room on the media LUN, which is 1.82TB? We seem to hit a 46GB limit (2.5% of the media LUN). Once we're down to 46GB, FCP says it's running out of disk space.
Does that sound right? When I checked the preferences in FCP, it is set to keep 2047MB (2GB) available, quite a bit less then 46GB. We do have "Limit Capture Now" set to 30 min, but we aren't using Capture Now when the out disk space error pops up.
Can anyone provide thoughts, even if it's just affirmation that 46GB is a normal head room.
Also, could anyone point me to any documentation or previous topics on this issue?
    Many thanks,
    Philip
Xserve G5 Dual 2 GHz   Mac OS X (10.4.9)   Xsan, Xserve RAID

Wish I could help you here -- don't know if it's that Xsan is complaining to FCP about lack of space, or that FCP is cranky on its own.
One thing I will note, though, is that 2.5% free space is WAY too low for storage like Xsan. Typically you will find that performance slows substantially when storage is more than 80% full. And you will have issues expanding Xsan volumes via the "bandwidth expansion" (adding LUNs to a storage pool, versus adding storage pools to a volume) method when you get above about 60% full. So just be aware of this -- filling an Xsan volume is different to filling the local hard disk on a Mac Pro or Power Mac (though the 80% "guideline" exists in most cases as it's simple physics -- platter density and physics are a constant in this world
