Cost of a new motherboard

I need to get the motherboard replaced on my new macbook pro. It is not covered by warranty. About how much would it cost to replace the whole motherboard?

You need to contact Apple or an AASP to find out that information we're users just like yourself and don't have that information available. However as a guess I'd guess about $650 or so. You can also try ifixit.com and see if they carry the one you need.
I'm guessing you are coming from a PC background, the board you are referring to on Mac's are called a *Main Logic Board*. When searching use the model number of the MBP you have and search.
Good luck!

  • Where can i buy a new motherboard for my Qosmio?

    Hi
All notebook parts can be ordered from local Toshiba ASP (authorized service partner)
Therefore I recommend contacting the ASP in your country to get the compatible board.
But new mobo is very costly so dont know if its worth to replace the mobo in your case

  • New motherboard for laptop purchased 5/2013?

I purchased a laptop 5/2013 a Pavillion g6-2321dx, suddenly over the weekend it wouldn't turn on, totally dead.  Computer repair says it needs a new motherboard.  Warranty expired 8/20.  It has been used only moderately for school papers and web browsing.  Isn't it too soon for a new motherboard?

Well I am sure you feel that way. The life of any electronic component can be expressed as a bell curve, with the "mean time to failure" as the center point. For a laptop motherboard I would guess mean time to failure probably would be 3 or 4 years, but failing after a little more than one year is not unheard of. The point is that the manufacturer warrants it for one year, which has become standard as the tradeoff of extra cost versus reasonable consumer protection.  The customer has to pay the cost of the amount of risk the manufacturer assumes. I know this is not making the news any easier to take. Usually an extended warranty is available at the time of purchase, but the cost seems high up front.

  • I am thinking I need a whole new motherboard

as the battery charger link to the computer became loose and apparently soldering them is a no go anywhere.....So I am guessing I need a whole new motherboard because of something as crazy as this. Apparently even though  it is a common problem for my laptops because of it just reaching over the warranty time I got told I was sol....so to say. So now I am seeking advice as to what motherboards will go into my computer with ease and not cause any issues. My particular laptop is the HP Pavillion 6500 p/n gs667ua#aba      it says it is the dv6629wm..........................SO PLEASE help me figure out what motherboard I can get that will not cause issues and will work correctly in this laptop. THANKS!

Hi, the motherboard does not have to be changed the power connector comes as a separate part. (100USD)
    446524-001 = 90W AC Adapter
    449454-001 = 65W AC Adapter
You will also have to add in the cost of labor to replace the part.

    OK few things:
    1. If you're planning for Motherboard upgrade, I suggest you buy new more powerful laptop. Cost wise & other issues arising following upgrade, that is the wise thing to do.
    2. All the compatible boards available for your laptop model support max 8gb
    3. By " more powerful motherboard ", if you meant more powerful processor, the compatible HM86 laden Intel board would support only i7 4702MQ processor, which is not going to give great performance boost compared to your current processor - both are quad core , with only slight increase in turbo boost frequency , with same base frequency.
    4. The best thing to do is to replace HDD with SSD. The price is not going to bother you much since you're already ready for board upgrade in the first place.
You can upgrade RAM to 8gb from 4gb, put another 4gb of same configuration and preferably brand in the other slot. Refer manual for these.
    Good Luck!

  • Need Help Determining Which Sound Chip Is On New Motherboard

I have a Toshiba M45-S331 that had a damaged motherboard, and I couldn't find the exact replacement MB at a reasonable cost, so I substituted a #V000051700 MB. After reassembling the laptop, everything works great except I get no sound. I'm hoping that the issue is that the replacement motherboard has a different sound chip, so a different driver would be required, but I'm having difficulty finding out which chip is integrated in the MB, and therefore which drivers will work. Is there a way to get the appropriate spec's on the motherboard? There were some sub-numbers on the MB - 6050A0067901, if that helps.
After further research, I found out that the new motherboard came out of a Toshiba M45-S3553, which has the same drivers as the original M45-S331, so the problem must be something other than the sound drivers. It may be the sound chip is bad. Any other ideas?

The RAM is pretty minimal in that machine, but it will run OS 9. In my experience eBay is problematic for OS purchases unless you know exactly what you are doing. Never buy "Restore" disks unless it is for your exact machine. (Keep OS X away from your iMac until you determine that it has the 4.1.9 firmware update!)
Apple Rescue, here, is one of the better places to get OS disks. OS 9.2.1 would be my recomendation.
Put a little more RAM in that iMac, and I think you'll find the Mac an enjoyable experience, and ... welcome to the "Apple Orchard" where there are no viruses, no spyware, and no blue screens of death.

  • Restoring on new motherboard

My iBook's soldered-on RAM (256MB) has failed. It no longer boots up. It degraded over a span of two months and now is a $1500 paperweight.
I could buy a new motherboard and replace it (yes, I know - about 80-90 screws and 3 hours). But my question is...
When I hook my old hard drive up to the new motherboard, will all my old licensed software (OSX, MSOffice2004, etc.) balk, or will everything work without a hitch forever?
    Thanks
    JeffO
    iBook G4   Mac OS X (10.3.9)   1.33GHz, 768DDR, 32MB Radeon 9200 AGP, 60GB Ultra ATA Toshiba MK6025GAS hdd, AirPort Extreme, 14.1" screen

Yes, I already have the pbfixit info - great site.
The diagnostic CD did NOT find the bad RAM. It sometimes works out that way. However, with my added 512MB RAM, the RAM-failure beeps for some reason turned into quiet scratchy sounds. When I removed my 512RAM, the beeps were quite normal and clear.
I already replaced the hard drive, so I know how to do the operation. Also, I do this for a living, but not normally with Apple, so no stranger to computer guts. Since I have two 60GB hard drives, which are now identical right down to the documents, I'm hoping not to even have to reinstall.
The iBook started having problems just 5 days after the warranty expired. (I was wondering if they can set a time-bomb!) They called me to extend it, but I declined. And you know, it would've cost more than the new mobo anyway, so it's not really costing me extra to fix this.
It was either buy the mobo, or a replacement used iBook on eBay for twice as much. You saved me $$$. Thanks for the info.

    Hello

  • Satellite M30X-134 - I'm looking for a new motherboard

    Hello,
im looking for a new motherboard for my Satelite M30X-134! I was offered one with the Toshiba number K000019680 with the advice that this one is for all M30X notebooks. Im a little irritated, because my thoshiba trader told me, that I need one with the number K000019210. Could someone tell me, if the K000019680 goes also fine with my notebook?
    Best regards

    Hi
It looks like you can use both of them but maybe is better to use K000019210. on this way you will be on safe side.

  • New motherboard ATV not showing up in itunes

I have a "new" computer in that the motherboard had to be replaced, along with the hard drive... I can't get my Apple TV to show in devices in itunes. In itunes prefs I have "look for apple tvs" checked. The ATV is connected to my wireless network. Any ideas how I can see my ATV in devices? I'm running OS 10.5.8 and my ATV software is up to date.

    Settings>Computers on AppleTV
The top entry is the sync library - change this and anything on AppleTV will be wiped in preparation for a new sync.
    Lower entries are streaming libraries.
The new motherboard/hard drive will be a 'different itunes library to the one you preiously used hence why AppleTv doesn't show up - you need to set it up for the 'different' computer.
Authorisation is equally as fussy - my MacMini failed so I removed the hard drive to try and deauthorise the computer, but booting from another device it knew it was a differnet machine so i couldn't deauthorise it.

  • [nForce] New motherboard not POSTing/booting (MSI K7N2GM2-ILSR)

You peeps seem like a knowledgeable lot so should be able to help with my problem.
I've just got a new motherboard (MSI K7N2GM2-ILSR) to replace my old one (which was a bit iffy in the USB department). I assembled the new motherboard and all the original components (excluding graphics card as my new motheboard has it built in) into the case and tried booting the machine. The bios and logos and so on came up on the screen but it wouldn't boot from the hard drive (probably some windows problem). I thought that a reinstall of windowsXP would fix it but I needed some data off the drive before I could continue. I then took all the components off the new motherboard (memory/processor/hd) and put them back on the old motherboard (which was working fine). When I hooked it all back up, the machine wouldn't even bring up the POST although it was getting power as the fans were going and the power LED was fine. The screen just never ever kicked in from standby. I took the harddrive to work and managed to get the data off it so returned home to put the components back on the new motherboard ready for the new windows install. Only when I turned it on I got the same problem as that with the original motherboard just tested (i.e. nothing came up on the screen, keyboard lights didn't flicker, had power but nothing resulted from it). Now I know it's not the monitor as I checked it worked with my laptop and I doubt it the graphics output as both the AGP card and the onboard graphics don't fire the monitor up.  And I doubt it's the PSU as it's ran the same processor and RAM on my old Asus motherboard.
So does anyone know if this is a broken processor problem, damaged RAM problem or something else?
Any help would be much appreciated.
    Rod

"...How easy is it to damage a CPU..."  Without propper care, very easy. 1. When inserting it into Mobo's slot, it should go without any force. If you have to push it, most probably you have bended a pin.- 2. Installing HSF: Applying too much strength to fit it, can break it. ( A corner ) 3.- If installing HSF in wrong way ( HSF Low step shoud go over CPU base step ) it will prevent HSF to work properly because only a part of CPU die will make good contact with HSF base. 4.- Installing HSF without using thermal grease (thermal pad ) over CPU die. ( It will let some air between them, so die is isolated and CPU temp will rise too much). 5. If reinstalling HSF., without cleaning it's base and CPU die from all old thermal compound before adding new one. 6. Adding too much thermal compound, even more if it has silver component ( Can cause a short.) But I'm sure there can be some others.

  • How can i get a new motherboard?

I have an iMac and it doesn't work!
My technical advisor said, it needs a new motherboard.
Anyone who knows how can I get one from Apple Store?
(I couldn't see this option on the website)

You cannot order a motherboard or any such parts from Apple. You'll need to take your iMac to an Apple Store or authorized Apple service center for repair. You can search the web for independent parts providers if you want to do the repair yourself, though that will void your warranty should your Mac have any remaining.

That makes sense Dennis.  I did that but was unable to find Adobe Reader in my Applications folder.  Of note though is that after a restart, the problem seems to have gone away.  So, disaster averted.  Thanks for responding though.  It's nice to have help on this stuff.

Mac or PC ? - I believe that Adobe switched the processing functions for 3D rendering in Photoshop CC to VRam.
To upgrade the Vram on my existing iMacs cost-effectively entails new upgraded iMacs.
So I am now needing to purchase new desktop computers for production purposes and seperately for an education institute - PC's or Macs?
Is this shift to Vram for image rendering affecting any processing functions of the other applications in the suite - the ones I use the most are Photoshop, Bridge, Lightroom, Illustrator, Premiere, After Effects, inDesign, & SoundBooth
I also use Strata 3D, Lightwave, Maya, Cinema 4D, Logic Pro, Final Cut Pro,
I will be using the suite in a Graphic design, Photography, Video editing / sound recording / editing (I am also a musician), animation and 3D context.

This forum is primarily for a few users like me to answer questions about installation, serial numbers and general issues regarding the Creative Suite. We don't have to expertise to answer questions like you're asking. Otherwise, few people visit this forum.
You'd do best to pick the forums of the applications you use the most, especially applications that test the limits of your computer (probably Premiere, After Effects, and Photoshop) and ask in those forums.
