Cost of Intune and SCCM 2012 r2 vs SCCM 2012 r2 ICBM

Is there any research/info on pros and cons of SCCM 2012 using intune for internet clinet management vs SCCM 2012 r2 and ICBM?  Things like cost, supportabiliy, etc.  I have seen intune vs sccm not Intune & SCCM vs SCCM and Internet Client
Based Management.
Cyndy

Hi,
I think the reason is that you cannot manage Windows clients using the WIndows Intune Agent and integrate it with SCCM 2012. The integration with Intune and SCCM 2012 is for Mobile Device Management only so there is no possibility to install the Windows
Intune Agent on a client and then manage it through the SCCM Admin Console.
THe only scenario where that would work is if you manage a Windows 8.1 with the OMA-DM agent and enroll them in Intune as a mobile device with a limited set of features.
So ICBM is still the way to go if you need all the features in SCCM or you want one console to rule them all.

Jörgen

  • Remote control and remote desktop client in sccm 2012 ?

What is the difference between remote control and remote desktop client in sccm 2012 ?

Remote Control is a built-in feature for SCCM 2012 and uses the RPC protocol. When you use this, the user can still be logged on while helping.
Remote Desktop is a buit-in feature for Windows and uses the RDP protcol. When you use it, the user will be logged off.
Why you would use one over the other depends on your requirements.

  • Clarification needed - Intune and SCCM side by side

    Hi Forum
I need some clarification on how the Intune and SCCM client will react when on the same workstation. non-integrated.
Will it refuse install? I know its not ideal, I just need to know.
Say I managed Endpoint in Intune and Updates in SCCM. Is this even possible?
    Thanks in advance
    NN

It shouldn't be used like that, either use the hybrid configuration, of Intune integrated with ConfigMgr, or use them stand-alone.
Also, just for testing purpose, I just tried to install the Intune agent on a machine with the ConfigMgr client installed and the installation failed with an error message stating that the ConfigMgr client should be uninstalled first.

  • Can I use SCCM 2007 to deploy SCCM 2012 Agent

I was reading the scenarios for deploying the SCCM 2012 agent here
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/gg682132.aspx
I have been planning to deploy the 2012 agent using an SCCM 2007 deployment package. I am not migrating any data/packages/collections/anything from SCCM 2007.
I am looking for a sane way to deploy 2000ish clients a day for 2 weeks and be done.
I figure they are all SCCM 2007 clients so lets deploy 2012 agent using SCCM 2007.
I read the following in the link above and it sounds like the way I want to go – use SCCM 2007 software distribution…
Upgrade installation by using application management
Upgrades clients to a newer version by using Configuration   Manager application management. You can also use Configuration Manager 2007 software
distribution to upgrade clients to System Center 2012 Configuration Manager.
Then later in the same document there is this…
How to Upgrade Configuration Manager Clients by Using a Package and Program
You can use Configuration Manager to create and deploy a package and program that upgrades the client software for selected computers in your hierarchy. A package definition file
is supplied with Configuration Manager that populates the package properties with typically used values. You can customize the behavior of the client installation by specifying additional command line properties.
You cannot upgrade Configuration Manager 2007 clients to System Center 2012 Configuration Manager by using this method.
In this scenario, use automatic client upgrade, which automatically creates and deploys a package that contains the latest version of the client.
What???!??  There is no Automatic client upgrade feature in 2007 – so how does that even make sense?  In one section, it says I can deploy the 2012 Agent using SCCM 2007 software distribution, and then later in the same document, it
says I can't.  I am probably misunderstanding somthing.
Is it possible to make a package/program in SCCM 2007 that will make targeted clients upgrade to Agent 2012 and join the new SCCM 2012 Site?

I tested this (deploying 2012 agent using existing 2007 SCCM infrastructure) with a few test systems at my desk and it seems to work pretty smoothly.  I made a package to deploy SCCM 2012 SP1 and added it to my SCCM 2007 Site.  Then I deployed
the 2012 agent from 2007 and it worked great.  If it works this well in production, I will be able to migrate all of my clients in less than a weeks time.
I have not published the 2012 site information in AD - and I don't plan to.  We would have some overlapping site boundaries - and in 2012 it seems its unnecessary in a single site hierarchy.  I AM planning to use boundaries to assign
DPs, but thankfully site and DP boundaries have been separated.  It works great to just specify the site in everything and not worry about auto discovery.  My clients don't move among sites since I only have one large site.
Sorry that I somehow posted this same question twice, and thanks for cleaning that up.
In my installation, I just called ccmsetup.exe with the following command line...
     /mp:myMP.mydomain.com CCMLOGMAXHISTORY=5 CCMLOGMAXSIZE=1000000 SMSCACHEFLAGS=PERCENTDISKSPACE;NTFSONLY SMSCACHESIZE=10 SMSMP=myMP.mydomain.com SMSSITECODE=CCM
I am not sure that I need to specify the MP twice, but it is working to do so.  I'm also not sure whether the log and cache flags will be honored since there are existing settings from SCCM2007 agent.  I think that the 2012 install will not change
these settings upon installation, but it does not appear to hurt the process to include them just in case it does work.

  • MS SQL Server 2012 Updates via SCCM 2012 R2

I'm trying to determine if SCCM 2012 R2 can manage and deploy Hotfixes, Updates and Service packs for SQL Server 2012. Can someone please confirm that SCCM can manage this, how to download SQL Server Hotfixes, Updates and Service Packs into SCCM and where
I can find instructions on setting up my MS SQL Server computers to receive SQL updates from SCCM.
    Thanks.

ConfigMgr absolutely can deploy updates and service packs for SQL. You just need to choose the versions you want in Software Update Point Products and Classifications. It's no different than deploying any other Microsoft updates.
    http://www.gerryhampsoncm.blogspot.ie/2013/04/sccm-2012-sp1-step-by-step-guide-part.html
Is it a good idea? I don't think so. I think SQL updates should be part of a carefully planned (and tested) manual upgrade.

  • SCCM 2012 SP1 to SCCM 2012 R2 - Side by Side

    Hi Friends,
Currently our SCCM infrastructure is running with a CAS site, 2 Primary Sites and 8 Secondary sites with SCCM 2012 SP1. Now we want to update this infrastructure from SCCM 2012 SP1 to 2012 R2. But we want remove CAS site and to keep only single Primary Site.
Can this be done in Side by Side migration from SCCM 2012 SP1 to SCCM 2012 R2 ? If yes then please suggest how to migrate all data (Packages/Clients) from SCCM 2012 SP1 to new infra on SCCM 2012 R2.
    Thanks in advance.

You don't have many (supported) options here. Detaching a site is not possible, so indeed your only option left is to migrate. Problem here is that the supported scenario is from a ConfigMgr 2012 R2 site to a ConfigMgr 2012 R2 site (see:
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/gg682006.aspx). That means you should first upgrade your old environment before you can start with your migration.

  • Unable to move SCCM 2007 database to SQL 2012 SP1

    Hi ,
    We want to Move
    SCCM 2007 R3 database to SQL Server 2012 SP1.
    SCCM server Version :
    4.00.6487.2000
    Build Number : 6487
But it says fatal error during the move wizard.
    In ConfigMgrSetup.log it says :
     ***SqlError: [42000][102][Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][SQL Server]Incorrect syntax near '99901'. : SiteControl_ins_upd
    ***SqlError: [42000][102][Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][SQL Server]Incorrect syntax near '99901'. : SiteControl_ins_upd
I already installed following updates on SCCM server , but still it failed to move.
     2676737
     2676776

This would be manual process. The simplest way to fix them is to reinstall the reporting point.

  • SCCM 2007 Secondary to SCCM 2012 Secondary Site

we are planning to upgrade SCCM 2007 secondary to SCCM 2012 Secondary Site, As per the TechNet document that I understand i can't do in place upgrade of Secondary site. I can do only upgrade
of 2007 DP to 2012 DP,
    This is what I plan,
    1. Install a SCCM 2012 Secondary site
    2. Enable DP sharing in 2012 and share the DP of 2007
    3. Upgrade the 2007 DP into 2012 DP on 2012 Secondary Site.
    My question is,
    1. How to copy the DP package to 2012 Secondary Server DP, it will happen during the upgrade or we need to use Export/extract Content feature in SCCM 2012
    2. How the client migration will happen? Do we need to distribute the 2012 client prior to DP update or we can use client push to upgrade old client.
    3. before share the DP, do i have to remove the MP, PXE role on the 2007 secondary?
    Thanks for your support

I have already few packages available in that DP that I am going to migrate
The second shared DP that I want to migrate to 2012, but it is not working.
Do I need to specify any thing in reassign distribution point wizard, because I only select  the site code where I want to migrate the 2007 DP, and all other option I leave default and client on next.
This is what I am trying to do.
I have build a SCCM 2012 Primary and Secondary Server and I am trying to move the DP from exiting SCCM 2007 Secondary Site DP to 2012 Secondary Site.
I set a source hierarchy for primary server with enable shared DP then I am trying to reassign a DP.

  • SCCM 2012: push client sccm 2007 client worked but then no deployment is reaching the client

    Hi,
We upgraded an sccm 2007 client to sccm 2012 and are deploying a tasks sequence to it.
However, the task sequence is not appearing. Also we cannot connect via client center tools.
Sccm 2012 client seemed to have installed correctly.
Please advise what logfiles to check.
    J.
    Jan Hoedt

Sccm 2012 client seemed to have installed correctly.
"Seemed to install" or did it really install? Nothing has changed logfile-wise from CM07 to CM12: ccmsetup.log can still be used to examine if the client was installed successfully. LocationServices.log, ClientIDManageStartup.log etc for further communication
    troubleshooting.

I am wondering if it is possible to migrate objects from a SCCM 2012 SP1 server in one domain to a new SCCM 2012 R2 server in another domain ?
I read this article, but it does not state this particular combination.

    Thx
    Thomas

For Migrate from SCCM 2012 SP1 to SCCM 2012 R2 in same environment/Domain, it's support and applicable.
But migrate to new domain, it's not support. Also you can't migrate database for new domain or object. you will need to rebuild it.

Rather than risk another failed upgrade can I simply build a new server and move the existing SCCM database to a new SCCM 2012 R2 system?

    Hi,
Here is an official article talks about Upgrade for your reference.

  • OS-Deployment to virtual servers with SCVMM 2012 R2 vs SCCM 2012 R2 or integration with both?

    Hi,
OS-Deployment to virtual servers with SCVMM 2012 R2 vs SCCM 2012 R2 or integration with both?
Is SCCM just for physical servers, and SCVMM for virtual?
What are benefits of integrating them?

  • Windows Intune and ADFS Location

    Hi,
I am in the middle of setting up SCCM and Intune together, and was wondering where on the network the ADFS should be sited, inside the network or outside or on a DMZ?

ADFS does not in any way provide any syncing. ADFS is an authentication trust mechanism. In the context of Windows Azure AD, which is used by Intune and O365 among other things, all authentication needed by these services is automatically redirected
back to your on-prem ADFS which in turn enables your users to authenticate against your AD. ADFS then passes a token back to WAAD saying that you should be trusted because WAAD trusts your ADFS.
To synchronize your on-prem AD to WAAD, which is required for Intune in the hybrid (aka ConfigMgr integrated) scenario, you need to set up DirSync. DirSync can also synchronize user passwords (actually hashes of user passwords -- once the password is set
there's no way to actually get it back) to WAAD thus more or less enabling single-sign on.
As Nikos pointed out, synching the password hashed up to WAAD -- for many different reasons -- doesn't sit well with some/many and so that's where ADFS comes in as it enables, as mentioned, WAAD to redirect the auth request to your directory services instead.
