My iPad1 battery has just failed after only 12 months and ~200 recharge cycles. What is the cost of replacing it in Australia (Sydney) since it is only US$99 in the States and our exchange rate is A$1.05=US$1.00?

A third-party repair shop will be cheaper/quicker. However, going that route voids all warranty/support. But, if you don't have any warranty left, might be a good option. Do your homework...find a shop that knows what they're doing.

Contemplating what to do with a 1G nano that I bought to replace the one that I sent back to Apple before I knew the replacements would NOT be 1Gs... but it is also eligible for the replacement (it is refurbished but, of course, I have no idea If that includes a new battery).
