Cost of ringing the online number

Hi,
can the online number be treated as the landline number re the cost? It's just that my mum has free international calls to landline numbers and I asked her to ring my new online number. Would it still be free for her to ring me?

Thanks for the compliment. I don't know everything about international calling, but have to support an office PBX that has some people that make international calls.
Your Online Number in Brisbane would be in Brisbane's 07 area code. If your mother is in the same area code, she should only have to dial the 8-digit number. If she is outside the 07 area code in some other part of Australia, simply dialing 07 followed by your 8-digit number is all she would need. Not knowing where your mother's phone is, and not knowing what your Brisbane Online Number is, I can't say with 100% certainty that the call is free for her. It would *not* be an international call for her, in any event.
When she rings your Brisbane number, receiving her call would be free when you are logged into Skype in Turkey, Greece, or wherever. If you forward calls to your Skype account out to a telephone number, you would need to either have Skype Credit or a subscription to cover calls to whatever number you are forwarding to. Be mindful that subscriptions for most countries do not cover calls to mobile phones, unless you opt for a specific "landlines and mobiles" or "mobiles" subscription - and they cost more than just a "landlines" subscription. And, if you are using a foreign mobile phone in places like Turkey, Greece, etc., your roaming voice and data charges from your mobile carrier may be high.
Skype's Online Numbers can be very useful. I have a Melbourne (03 9xxx xxxx) number, which helps my friends down there who have not (yet) joined Skype to stay in touch. I have 3 others, and - if Skype has numbers in the places you want - they are great tools.

Have not received the online number yet!

I have purchased the online number for Germany on Friday, 7th Sept but I have yet not received the number! Its been almost 3 days and I have not received any notification. In the email I received from skype, it says usually it takes 6 hours!! Will there be any confirmation from Skype, when i will get the number?

For Germany I have read that it may take up to two weeks. something to do with the German govt. Skype has no control over this. I am not german, but have read this on other threads,

The online number for Norway

Hey! Just wonder why the online number supports only Denmark & Sweden? And if it will so when it comes to Norway?

We are constantly working on expanding the list of countries where we can offer Skype Online Numbers. Unfortunately we haven't found a good solution for Norway (and too many other countries) yet. So right now we do not offer Norwegian Online Numbers and I can't tell when that will change.

I am looking to get an online number - I do not have a landline and my friend does not have a very useful contract on the their mobile , lol. We are both in the UK.
If they call my online number from their landline, will the call be treated as if they were dialing any other UK number i.e. will it still fall in under their landline call packages ?

I recently got a skype number. I spread it out to my friends. Now I also get calls from somebody I don't know - apparently this number have been used. What should I do?
Also, I don't want my contacts to (mistakenly) call some other person should I decide to terminate the subscription.
I think it is a serious issue and the phone number should be erased permanently after 90 days of being expired, and not being re-selled. If I knew about it before I subscribed - I would perhaps decide not to.

After number expires it is reserved for the same account for another 90 days.
Later on it goes back to the general pool and can be purchased by anyone.
It is not an one time payment.

There is no information about the costs of the online number !!
I followed all the buy-a-number-process until Skype/Microsoft asks me about my account without to give me opportunity to see how much the online-number costs !!!!!

So you actually work for this company with the WORST business website I have ever seen. I've spent 45 minutes on your stupid site trying to figure out how to extend my online number because your email told me I had to extend my number or it would expire.
Here your saying that it will automatically extend. What if I don't want to automatically extend? What if I wanted to cancel? What if I actually wanted support on this horrible service. I mean the phone actually works but your site is absolutely the WORST. You can't do anything you want to do logically.
I'm a web designer. If I designed junk like your site, I'd be fired and deservedly so.

Online Number - Does it cost me per minute?

I just signed up for 3 months of an online number (for something like $12). When someone now calls me on this number, do I pay a per minute cost on top of the $12 for 3 months charge? Or is the $12 the only charge?

My experience is that Skype does not make additional per-minute charges to the person who has purchased the Online Number. Beware, however, that the person dialling the Online Number may be racking up unexpected charges on their phone bill. In the case of South Africa, the "local" number Skype provides looks like an ordinary local number but they are charged at such a high rate that it would be much cheaper to dial the USA directly, landline to landline, than to dial this "local number." This is quite apart from the price paid to Skype get a local number. I cannot understand why anyone would want this service, at least for dialling from South Africa. What the per-minute charges are in other countries, I have no idea. Skype doesn't put any information about it on their website.

US online number with the ability to make outbound...

I currently live in Egypt and my new job requires that I have an online USA phone number with the ability to make outbound calls. Now after going through the site, I understand that online numbers has you recieve calls wherever you are, but does it always have you make calls to the US or what? And are those calls covered with the subscripition or is it a seperate bill?
Help seriously needed ASAP, thanks a million!

You are correct, the ability to receive calls from telephones (the Online Number) is separate from the ability to make calls to telephones (the subscriptions). Having one does not give you the other. When logged into Skype from almost anywhere, you would be able to receive calls made to your Online Number, and - with the subscription, or by simply adding Skype Credit to your account - have the ability to call telephones from Skype.
For calling to the States, there is an Unlimited USA & Canada subscription at US$ 2.99/month, or with a 15% discount if purchased for a year at a time (just over US$ 30/year). This subscription, along with a US online number, effectively gives you a US "telephone" that you can use from Egypt or anywhere else. Please keep in mind Skype's fair-use policy regarding subscriptions. Click on "Subscriptions" below for more details.

Online Number isn't showing up on people's caller ...

Is there any way to fix this? My online number works because I recently paid for it and it expires May 20.
I know the number works because when I call myself, it rings but displays the "unkown number" problem.
Let me know if there's a way to solve this please.

Caller ID is passed along with a call, from Skype through the local telephone companies, up to the mobile or landline number you dialled. In most countries, caller ID is supported by the local providers and the number should display as normal. I have the same problem. In Skype Manager the online number was deactivated 10 days ago at its year end. I added lots of credit today and allocated 100euros to the account that holds the de-activated number - but it still asks for more credit (it costs 50euros to reactivate for a year).
Question - How do I get Skype Manager to recognise that there is enough credit allocated in the account to reactivate the number?

If both of you use Skype on your devices (iPhones and PCs), you could simply call each other via Skype for free. No need for anything else from Skype.
An Online Number is used by people on telephones to reach your Skype account. Online Numbers are available in a couple dozen countries, including the UK. After purchasing the Online Number, it costs you nothing to receive calls on that number with your Skype account. For callers, it is either a free call, or it costs them however much to reach that number from their telephone provider. A Skype To Go number is a way you can access Skype when you are not at your computer or device with a Skype app like your iPhone. When you dial a Skype To Go number, you can either call from a short list of your contacts, or dial any international number. You can use an Online Number with any Skype program or app - on a computer, smart phone, etc.
