Costs of Nokia Suite

Cannot understand form your help files, whether Nokia Suite  services are free of charge or not.
Same situation for Ovi Store, where there are files, as for example games, declared as free but  needing a connection when started.
Is  the connection a way to reimburse the producer with some royalty?
If so what could be an estimated average cost?
Thank you in advance and regards.
Luciana

Hi Luciana,
Welcome to the Discussion Boards!
Ovi Suite/Nokia Suite are free applications, and also the usage is free. Some functions in these applications require you to have an active Internet connection on your PC, so if you're not charged extra for Internet usage on your computer, these applications should be free to use.
About Ovi Store: there are some categories of apps/games :
- FREE apps that don't require data connection
- FREE apps that require data connection (usually clearly mentioned on the application details, or when installing the app)
- paying apps that don't require data connection
The category of the application or the game, is to be decided by the author/developer of the application, so Nokia has nothing to see with that decision. The reasons for requiring data connection can be diverse, but usually they are for free apps, to enable banners or other publicity while you're using the application/game, and are a form of income for the developer.
I hope this clarifies it for you ?
Kind regards,
kingblue

  • Nokia Suite Backup Shortcomings

Nokia suite is a great program but on a fixed data plan, redownloading maps and apps is both time consuming and cost prohibitive.
Nokia Suite should be able to backup all content on a device and run diagnostics on a virtual phone via PC so that a user can save all content on a device and troubleshoot problems with apps and settings.
This would be a feature that would set it leaps and bounds ahead of its competitors.

  • No Phone connected DKu 5 and CA 42 with Nokia Suit...

Hi I am trying to connect my mobile to my PC.
I am running Windows 98 SE.
    My phone is a 6110i
I also tried it on my daughter's 3220
I bought a DKU 5 connector of the internet and installed the drivers.
    Then unstalled Nokia suite 5.8.
    Both operations went Ok.
Connected the phone and cable but when I open the connection manager, I just get No phone connected.
Have tried searching for a com port identification, but nothing there.
I have now bougfht a CA42 cable for £29.95 from a nokia shop.
Removed all the other software and started again.
    Then installed Nokia suite 5.8
I still have the same report of no phone connected.
I have noticed that with the new cable, once I plug it in after the software is loaded, it finds new hardware like Nokia Modem and various other connections and supposedly installs the drivers.
    I am totally disheartened now.
    Can any one help Please

I'm afraid the problem is with the PC Suite version - 5.8 will not work with a 3220 nor a 6610i (I suppose you meant 6610i instead of 6110i?)
So you need 2000/XP and the latest 6.x version to get both your and your daughter's phones connected.
    Thanks for the feedback.
The PC is fairly old, so I will have to look at the cost, verses the functionality.

The point is most of users use Nokia suite as a safe means of software upgrade. - No, OTA is safer than using Nokia Suite since you do not overwrite the whole firmware but just the upgraded/added bits.
Besides OTA updates cost more money  than internet upgrades. - Not if you use Wifi, as recommended for OTA updates
Those who dont have 3G will have to wait for hours and keep the phone plugged in to a charger and they cant use the phone till  software upgrade is complete. - So why own a smartphone if you don't have 3G or access to Wifi ? Surely the situation you describe is the minority exception rather than the rule ?
Nokia should ensure that all upgrades are available simultaneously across all channels and atleast thro' Nokia suite 1st. - Now that will be expensive for Nokia and can only lead to more delays if you insist on simultaneous release across all delivery channels.

  • Migrate Nokia Suite between windows accounts

I have recently changed my home pc so that each user has their own account, I now want to move my Nokia Suite settings to my personal windows account rather than the shared windows account.
My issue is that I have a lot of photographs stored on my N8, these have already been uploaded to windows (shared account) - but if I connect the N8 while logged in with my new windows account Nokia Suite tries to upload all the photos again, this would turn into a massive problem for me to sort out manually.
What can I do to migrate my Nokia Suite data from one account to another - I see there are hidden "Nokia" and "Nokia Account" folders in AppData/Local... would it be sufficient to copy these or is there other stuff that I would be missing?

    Hi dylanf,
You can see the help of Nokia Suite "Moving the contents of Nokia Suite to a new computer", the same applies to creating a new account or profile on your same computer.
If you had your Photos and Videos from your phone stored on your shared account on PC in the standard Windows Pictures and Videos folders. You just need to copy them those to your new account's Pictures and Videos. This way you will not need to copy those photos again from your phone to your new account.
I copied here the instructions from the Nokia Suite help. Nokia Suite -> Help -> Moving the contents of Nokia Suite to a new computer.
When you are switching to a new computer, it's easy to move your contacts, messages, media files, calendar information, bookmarks, and web feeds from Nokia Suite on your old computer to Nokia Suite on the new computer. All your files stay safe and you can continue using Nokia Suite just like before. See below for detailed instructions on how to move different content types to your new computer.
    Music, photos, and videos
The music, photos, and videos you see in Nokia Suite are stored on your computer just like any files and you can move them to the new computer with the help of Windows Explorer and an external hard drive, such as a USB memory stick. In the options of Nokia Suite, check if the program saves your media files to the standard Windows folders for music, photos, and videos (such as Music, Pictures, and Videos on Windows Vista and Windows 7 or My Music, My Pictures, and My Videos on Windows XP), or if you have chosen to save them in some other folders. To check your options, open the Tools menu, click Options, and then go to the Music and Gallery tabs.
Note that if you have created music playlists or photo albums in Nokia Suite on your old computer, you need to create them again when you start using Nokia Suite on your new computer.

  • Nokia Suite no longer recognises N9 after upgradin...

I have been regularly using Nokia Suite 3.2 with my N9, and so I recently upgraded to Nokia Suite 3.5. After some initial problems getting ownership of the Nokia file in the ProgramData folder, the install worked however now when I connect using 'Sync and Connect', Nokia Suite doesn't recognise my N9 - I can hear the sound notification of the phone connecting with the computer, followed almost immediately by the same sound notification of the phone disconnecting from the PC.
I'm running Windows Vista 32bit and having used system restore to roll back the install to version 3.2, I now cannot connect my N9 via Nokia Suite 3.2 either.
I've tried different cables to no avail. I do not have Bluetooth on my PC to try. I now cannot connect my N9 and my PC.
    How do I fix this?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

I seem to have had some success. After getting over the usual language and accent barriers with Nokia Customer Care, and after convincing them that Nokia Suite 3.5 was actually compatible with the N9, they suggested I repair both the Nokia Connectivity Cable Driver and also the PC Connectivity Solution file.
After doing this, Nokia Suite 3.5 still wasn't  recognising my N9. Re-installing Nokia Suite wasn't an option as it would mean deleting all the info stored in it (texts, contacts, etc), some of which are not stored in duplicate on the phone.
I decided instead to try repairing Nokia Suite via Windows, and to my thanks, this seems to have worked. At present all is well and Nokia Suite is now talking and recognising my N9 as it did in v3.2.
What is probably the most puzzling thing to come out of this is that in searching the web for a fix, it became very clear that Nokia have a lot of issues across the board in getting their phones to connect and talk to their UI's on computers.
The fact that they have maybe three to four separate UI's (PC Suite, Nokia Link, Nokia Suite, Ovi Suite) which only seem to be suitable for certain phones is archaic in my opinion. Surely it's time for Nokia to pool their resources and R and D into one UI that is functional across the board and across their phone range?
I think that would make the user experience a more friendly and enjoyable one.

  • Nokia suite 3.8.48 and Windows (8) Contacts

Nokia Suite syncs 3710 fold and suite, but not Windows contacts.
    How to do?
Previously I used Windows XP and Outlook without any problems.
Would be great with some help.

    Hi goranlof,
    Welcome to the forum!
Nokia Suite can copy and sync contacts and calendar files from the following programs:
    Microsoft Windows 7 Contacts
    Microsoft Windows Vista Contacts
    Microsoft Windows Vista Calendar
    Microsoft Outlook 2002, 2003, 2007, 2010
    Microsoft Outlook Express
    Mozilla Thunderbird
Windows 8 Contacts is currently not included in the list. However, you can copy your numbers from Windows 8 Contacts to any of the supported programs, you'll be able to sync the data to your Nokia 3710 fold. You can contact the Windows support team for assistance with this process: windows.microsoft.com/contact-support.

Nokia Suite (NS) prompts me that I cannot copy a whole bach of music onto my N8 because of too little memory. NS says I have only 4 GB free when there's actually more than 13 GB available. Does anyone know why this may be?
I have resorted to do the copy on an album by album basis and have not yet been prompted about any lack of memory.

  • Error installing Nokia Suite! Need help.

    Hello everybody,
I am trying to install Nokia Suite on my laptop, running on Windows 7 64 bit. I downloaded two different install files from http://www.nokia.nl/support/software/nokia-pc-suite/download .
