Could 3G iPhone resolve my old iPhone signal problem?
My 8gb iPhone is great except I get zero or no signal at home, where I also work - 90% of my time. I'm in Cambridge MA in the best possible coverage area. But, according to AT&T, I'm equidistant from 3 towers, making my house/neighborhood a dead zone for the iPhone. I got 2 replacement iPhones but it was the same with all three. I should've just returned and paid the re-stocking fee. But I loved it and figured something could be done.
When an AT&T tech. came out to troubleshoot my problem last winter he told me I'd have no problem with a 3G phone.
I'd love to sell it on eBay while its still under warranty and get the 3G.
I just don't want to go through the hours and hours of support calls and resulting disappointment again. On the other hand, I hate to go another 1+ year on this contract for an iPhone with no phone signal which has forced me to keep a landline.
Any advice from 3G experts would be very helpful. And I could use the GPS.
I think it boils down to the area you are in and the provider's cell tower coverage. Here is what Walt Mossberg wrote about his experience with the new 3G iPhone. “In New York City, riding in a taxi along the Hudson, one important call was dropped three times on the new iPhone. Finally, I borrowed a cheap Verizon phone and got perfect reception.”

Doubt this issue relates to a recent and ugly issue but sharing anyways (resolved thanks to a user here: LaPastenague)
Time Capsule won't backup if Modem (Motorola SB6121) attached
This was on Feb 10th resolved. Few days later I upgraded to Yosemite. Backups were working fine since.
Yesterday I happen to notice my last backup was 5 days ago. I looked in the console logs and saw:

I called Apple. Their front line was clueless. He suggested resetting the TC (latest "tower" model btw") which then a backup kicked off YEAH
But the next hour it failed
Called Apple again, this time to Sr Advisor. He suggested factory reset of the TC and set up again. Also first backup worked then rest failed
Third call to Apple useless also. He was asking questions I didn't feel relevant. He also was asking me to reset the TC which I told him was done 2 hours prior. He asked me to reboot which I could NOT at that time.
I begged him to collect data to submit to engineering, which will take days to get a reply.
So I thought I would throw this out to the community....
TC Is NEW (replaced from last issue). Mac is 8 months old (iMac 27"), Os is Yosemite, TC also new (latest model)
Thanks...Yosemite is problematic on two fronts.. Networking and Time Machine.. so the combo of doing both with a Time Capsule is like bugs on bugs.
Here is my standard list.. but your problem maybe difficult to resolve.. and my suggestion is simple.. until Apple get their act together and fix TM.. buy Carbon Copy Cloner and use that for your backup. It is solid and reliable.. even better if you use USB drive plugged into the computer and do a bootable clone.. because then you have a backup that is able to be tested for full functionality 2min after the end of the backup.
This also starts from a factory reset.. but the reason for it is to change the configuration which is much more easily handled with factory reset to begin.. the instructions are there.. because this is my standard reply.. this is not uncommon!!
Factory reset universal
Power off the TC.. ie pull the power cord or power off at the wall.. wait 10sec.. hold in the reset button.. be gentle.. power on again still holding in reset.. and keep holding it in for another 10sec. You may need some help as it is hard to both hold in reset and apply power. It will show success by rapidly blinking the front led. Release the reset.. and wait a couple of min for the TC to reset and come back with factory settings. If the front LED doesn’t blink rapidly you missed it and simply try again. The reset is fairly fragile in these.. press it so you feel it just click and no more.. I have seen people bend the lever or even break it. I use a toothpick as tool.
N.B. None of your files on the hard disk of the TC are deleted.. this simply clears out the router settings of the TC.
Setup the TC again.
ie Start from a factory reset. No files are lost on the hard disk doing this.
Then redo the setup from the computer with Yosemite.
1. Use very short names.. NOT APPLE RECOMMENDED names. No spaces and pure alphanumerics.
eg TCgen5 and TCwifi for basestation and wireless respectively.
Even better if the issue is more wireless use TC24ghz and TC5ghz with fixed channels as this also seems to help stop the nonsense. But this can be tried in the second round.
2. Use all passwords that also comply but can be a bit longer. ie 8-20 characters mixed case and numbers.. no non-alphanumerics.
3. Ensure the TC always takes the same IP address.. you will need to do this on the main router using dhcp reservation.. or a bit more complex setup using static IP in the TC. But this is important.. having IP drift all over the place when Yosemite cannot remember its own name for 5 min after a reboot makes for poor networking. If the TC is main router it will not be an issue.
4. Check your share name on the computer is not changing.. make sure it also complies with the above.. short no spaces and pure alphanumeric.. but this change will mess up your TM backup.. so be prepared to do a new full backup. Sorry.. keep this one for second round if you want to avoid a new backup.
5. Mount the TC disk in the computer manually.
In Finder, Go, Connect to server from the top menu,
Type in SMB://192.168.0.254 (or whatever the TC ip is which you have now made static. As a router by default it is 10.0.1.1 and I encourage people to stick with that unless you know what you are doing).
You can use name.. SMB://TCgen5.local where you replace TCgen5 with your TC name.. local is the default domain of the TC and doesn't change.
However names are not so easy as IP address.. nor as reliable. At least not in Yosemite they aren't. The domain can also be an issue if you are not plugged or wireless directly to the TC.
6. Make sure IPv6 is set to link-local only in the computer. For example wireless open the network preferences, wireless and advanced / TCP/IP.. and fix the IPv6. to link-local only.
There is a lot more jiggery pokery you can try but the above is a good start.. if you find it still unreliable.. don't be surprised.
You might need to do some more work on the Mac itself. eg Reset the PRAM.. has helped some people. Clean install of the OS is also helpful if you upgrade installed.

I'm having a billing issue with my apple id. I got my first iPhone today and I've signe din etc however before i can download any apps etc i need to resolve an old payment apparently. The problem is i cant enter my new card details because the issue is registered to when i was in America and i require to pay the funds from an American source. Any ideas how i can resolve this? It wont accept my new card detail as im back in the UK. I think i have posted this in the wrong area but anyone got any ideas?

You can email Apple for help but the link is for the iTunes store not the Mac App Store. You've inadvertently poasted in the Using Mac App Store forum but that's ok. Billing issues are the same for the iTunes Store.

I have a problem with my iphone 4. My 3G always stays activated but I lose my network signal. The bars all get lost and I'm not able to receive / send sms, mms or phone calls. Could you guys please help me fix this problem? Ios 5.1.1
I haven't gotten a new sim card because the problem has been presenting itself in various cards not only mine. So far, all I've done is reset my network settings.
Last night, I turned off the 3G tab and it had all the signal bars. Today, I did the network reset and it's working apparently. But like I said before, previously the bars just disappear and the iphone only has the 3G activated. -
My iphone 3g show the itune logo and when I restore it, it says restore error 46? What is restore error 46? How could this be resolved?

No. With the amount of information you've provided it's impossible to offer a potential solution. We can't see your computer so we need to know the details of your problem and setup, i.e.:
what version of iPhoto are you using?
what system version are you running?
what do you see when iPhoto opens?
what fixes have you tried?
where is your library located?
did you apply any updates or upgrades just prior to the problem occurring?
are you running a "managed" or "referenced" library?
what type of Mac?
how much free space on your boot drive?
For the iPhone issue ask in the iPhone forum.

Yes, the iPhone 5S is a global phone. However, Sprint will only unlock phones for use on GSM networks outside of the U.S. In the U.S., that phone can only be used on Sprint's network. -

IOS5 signal problem on iPhone 4
Updated my iphone 4 to iOS5 yesterday and today I'm having lots of problems with low signal.
The signal seems to fluctuate between one bar, then to 'searching', before saying 'no signal' and then it shoots up to full signal temporarily before going through the whole cycle again.
Phone calls keep getting cut off because of this. Restarting the phone seems to fix the problem but only for a while.
Never had any signal problems before with this phone, even with the whole antenna thing.
Anyone else having similar problems? Found some other threads online but most seem to be for jailbroken phones... mine isn't.

Looked at my phone once last night to see 'no signal' but I restarted it and has been fine since. Have made phone calls and used the internet today and the signal hasn't dropped (which is what was happening before). Its a pain in the arse but at least it's working for the time being.
When I couldn't get signal someone rang O2 and Apple for me. Both said it was the first they had heard about this and to try re-installing the software. I'd already done the restore to factory settings by this point though so not sure if that would help. -
