Could an old universal dock damage the battery of the iPhone 3GS?

I have an older Apple dock (model A1153, output 3.3V according to what is printed on the bottom). I cannot find it listed anywhere on the Apple website.
I briefly inserted my iPhone 3GS and received the message that this accessory is not made for iPhone and do I want to turn on airplane mode.
Is there any possibility that charging/syncing my iPhone in this dock would damage the battery (or the phone itself)?

Additional information (in case it matters): I found that the dock also goes by the part number of MA045G/A.
Thanks for any help.

  • "old" Universal Dock not working with iPod Classic/iPhone

I purchased the Universal Dock back when it came out. Now I have upgraded to a new Classic & iPhone and neither seem to work to the TV through it. I took having to spend another $49 on the chin and bought the new composite AV cable, which by the way does work with YouTube after Apple told me it wouldn't, nice bonus. The new cable works great (haven't tried charging yet), however, plugged into the dock, the remote works, but I get no audio or video out to the TV. iPhone gives me the standard not compatible and wants to go into airport mode which is fine, but then the video plays on it's (iPhone) screen. The Classic pretends everything is working great. Do I have to go spend another $49 on a new "Universal" dock now?

Did you already have a look here http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=300233? It specifies exactly what combinations of cables, docks, and iPod models do and don't work. Looks like the old dock doesn't work with the new iPod's.

  • How long should the battery in an iPhone 3GS last?

I have had my 3GS for exactly 1 1/2 years and all of a sudden my iPhone is going from 100% to 90% after unplugging from my iMac at 8am and answering one short phone call in the morning it is 90% two hours later.  I had to recharge it after being on for 7 hours with about 10 - 15 min of phone use and the low battery warning came on at 10% and I connected it back to the iMac at 7%.  Must have missed the 20% warning.  Left the house without it because I had to take it off my person to do a 3pm recharge.  TERRIBLE, TERRIBLE, TERRIBLE!
Not pointing a finger but I upgraded my iMac to Lion and I had to update iPhone to 5.0 and that was when I started having problems.
    What gives
    Andy

Problem with ios5. Update will hopefully be out soon

  • Is the Universal dock and backup battery worth getting?

i am getting an ipod video....is the universal dock worth getting, along with the backup battery pack? i have heard that the batt. pack adds a lot of bulkiness and does not look very good with a black ipod becuase it is white (i am planin on getting a black ipod), and that the dock is only good if you want to charge your ipod standing up.....please give me some info about this!!!!!!

is the universal dock worth getting,
There is only one dock (Apple).
If you want to have a neater/cleaner desktop, it's fine.
along with the backup battery pack
There is no "the" battery pack.
There are a number of battery packs (none by Apple).
If you want extended play time away from all power, they are fine.

  • Iphone 4 with old universal dock

i have got an old universal dock for my iphone 3gs
now i have iphone 4 and the universal remote control dose not work!!
    what can i do?

It will only update the iOS if you select updating. A regular sync does not require or force the update of iOS.

  • How to charge the battery if the power input is damaged?

The mains power socket on my Satellite 4070CDT has been damaged and the laptop will no longer take power or recharge the battery from this socket. (Attempts to re-solder the joint have damaged the power detection circuitry!)
Does anyone know if I can feed the appropriate voltage (10.8v?) to the battery contacts inside the battery housing to keep the laptop going, and if so, which contacts and with what tolerance on the voltage?
(Applying 12v across the +ve and one particular -ve contact seems to persuade the power management software that it is running from mains without a battery, but after 20 seconds the laptop powers down.)
    Any ideas? Thanks.

With some experimentation (and the assistance of a voltage meter) I have found a solution, which I have described below should anyone else be similarly troubled!
My li-ion battery has 10 end-facing contacts and 2 top-facing contacts. One of the 2 top-facing contacts is the real +ve contact for the battery, which passes charge via the other top-facing contact to the end-facing contact that is marked as being the +ve terminal.
Of the 9 remaining end-facing contacts, only two (the 3rd and 10th counting from the +ve as 1st contact) were reporting any charge, probably due to the battery being almost fully discharged.
I have soldered the 12v +ve supply from a new external adaptor to the 1st end-facing contact (which is marked as the +ve contact) and the -ve connection to the 3rd and 10th contacts, feeding the cable out through a notch cut in the laptop casing at the contact end of the battery.
The cable is terminated with a suitably sized floating socket to receive the plug from the 12v adaptor.
    AND IT WORKS!
The laptop is reporting that the battery only has 4% charge, but it keeps going! I have turned-off the battery alarms and system-tray indicator as they are meaningless now.
So my 6-year-old laptop lives to see another day, although it is no longer a 'mobile' device now that it needs constant mains supply - but it still has its uses.

  • Replaced the Battery in my iPhone 4s but still drains very quick.

My iPhone 4s battery has been draining in about 4-5 hours almost exclusively sitting idle on standby. (No heavy use)
So I purchased a new battery and replaced the old one, but it still drains in about 4-5 hours with very little use.
I read all of the things I could do to help the battery life, I turned off Bluetooth and most location services. I disabled automatic app updates. I lowered the brightness of my screen.
Still seems to die in about the same amount of time.
Does anyone have any other suggestion I could try to help the battery life a little more on an iPhone 4s?
    Thanks in advance.

I replaced it myself using instructions on the Internet. I was quite careful and used all the correct tools. The battery was the high capacity 2680 Ah but with same voltage 3.7V. Have since remove it and re-inserted original battery. However the problem of searching is still there. Funny because everything else including wifi works perfectly. SIM card works perfectly in another iphone 4 so it can't be the SIM card. Have tried all the obvious fixes such as re-boot, connecting to iTunes, system settings etc but no luck. Surely if the 3G antenna was broken you would still get a message that no SIM card was inserted but I don't even get that. It's permanently in the searching state. The iphone is not jail broken.

  • The battery on my iphone 4s is broken, will the apple store be able to replace it for me? will there be a cost? i have had my phone for 2 years. it is a pay as you go

i think the battery on my iphone 4s is broken, my phone was taking hours to charge and now it wont charge at all, my phone has been dead for the past 3 days. would my local apple store be able to replace it for me? if so will there be a cost? my phone is 2 years old but in good condition. it is pay as you go. at first i thought my charger was broke, so i bought a new one. but it is definetly my phone battery.

Not at an Apple Store, and if the iPhone is no longer under warranty, there is a cost.

  • The battery of my iPhone 5 easily discharges even if not in use. This started 11 months after purchase. The unit passed the Apple Battery Health Test Protocol but the performance showed otherwise. What is the problem and how do I solve it?

The battery of my iPhone 5 easily discharges even when not in use. The unit was tested by Apple and passed the Battery Health Test although the performance showed otherwise. The battery deterioration started 11 months after purchase and is not covered by Apple warranty. What is the problem of the iPhone5 and would appreciate suggestions on how to address this problem. By the way, I have a 2 year old iphone 4S with a battery performance as good as when it was bought two years ago.

    Hi there Dan Laven,
You may find the information in the article below helpful.
iPhone and iPod touch: Charging the battery
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1476
About battery life and the battery
Battery life and number of charge cycles vary by use and settings. Find more information about batteries for iPhone and iPod.
Find information on how long the battery is expected to last between charges.
Rechargeable batteries have a limited number of charge cycles and may eventually need to be replaced.

Hi, I hope you can help. I'm sure this is something really basic that I should be able to fix myself, but.................
I was working on a photo calendar on my macbook off the battery and the battery suddenly ran out. So it wasn't shut down properly. Now when I open i photo the coloured wheel just keeps spinning and I can't get into it. Everything else on the computer seems to work. I've done forced quit and restarted it a few times and also left it running.

    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one. .

    can anyone help?

You need to get your phone repaired.   It's obviously damaged, and nothing we can suggest to you will fix that.

  • My touch screen wont work.  i've run the battery all the way down then plugged in but screen doest work

after running with my Itouch i came home can could not get the touch screen to work.  Ive run the battery all the way down, plugged it in but the screen still doesnt work.  any ideas?

Hold the home button and the sleep/wake button (...) until the screen goes black, then turn the thing back on. If it doesn't work correctly, hold the home button while plugging it into iTunes and restore it.

  • TS2755 I talk to my daughter about an hr once a week from her Ipad to my Iphone. I know it runs down the battery by the time we are done but it is harmful to the battery?

I want to know if using the Iphone to talk on Facetime for an hour a week damages the battery in the phone?

Seriously?  why would using the device with it's own built in features damage it's own hardware?  What device manufacturer would do that?  None.  They would be sued left and right.

    Try a SMC reset:
    https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201295
If this is an original battery, even with a low cycle count, it is old and probably should be replaced.
    Ciao.

  • Hey (: I have the new iPad and I want to ask what is "healthier" for the battery : turn the device off in the night or keep it on during the night ? Thank you !

Hey (: I have the new iPad and I want to ask what is "healthier" for the battery : turn the device off in the night or keep it on during the night ? Thank you !

    BTW, statements like
"Use the device until the battery has drained to the point of self-shutdown. Basically, use it until it turns itself off."
in articles like the one at http://www.macblend.com/how-to-calibrate-your-mac-iphone-or-ipad-battery/ are complete BS and if you do follow their "advice", your battery life will be severely hampered. Particularly if you also follow one of the comments: "Step One.One: Leave the device for 5+ hours before start charging. This will fully drain the battery." Well, the guy that advised the latter certanly doesn't know anyhting about lithium batteries and the damage deep discharging does to them.
Again, what the article (and the above-cited comment) advices is complete b*llsh*t and noone should really do this.
