could i buy a mac os x leopard software from app store?  for imac 2008

The OS 10.6 Snow Leopard install DVD is available for $19.99 from the Apple Store:
http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard
and in the UK:
http://store.apple.com/uk/product/MC573/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard
When you have installed it, run Software Update to download and install the latest updates for Snow Leopard to bring it up to 10.6.8, or download the combo update from here:
http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1399
Check via Software Update whether any further updates are required, particularly to iTunes.
You should now see the App Store icon in iTunes, and you now need to set up your account:

  • Buying software from app store

I can't re-download older Mac OS 10.7 software from the App store. Already purchased.
Have to reformat my older MacBook to latest software version.
It won't show up in my Purchases. And won't let me log-in to App store from restored computer. Other computers I have downloaded the software too - yes I can. And it recognizes me in the App Store.
I'm even trying to find the Apple Support number to phone....
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks!

Check that is hidden. If it is, unhide it > http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4928 Then, open the Mac App Store, go to Purchases tab and download Lion

  • Why buy 3rd party software from app store?

I want to buy the home accounting software YNAB. I could buy it directly from the vendor or (for the same price) from the Mac App Store. (Apple takes 1/3 of the price; I care about that, but only slightly.) With the receipt, the vendor will also allow me to use the product on its own, on multiple devices, with no reference to the App Store, and on Windows machines (which I don't have). Or, buying YNAB from the App Store, I can use it with any device that I am sharing with. Someone can correct me if I have misunderstood the details of these two ways to buy the software. Will these differences matter at all to me? I'm trying to imagine a scenario where one or the other is preferable.

Minor updates from the MAS are free, major version upgrades are usually paid. However, it isn't up to Apple, it is the developer's choice whether to issue upgrades for free. The issue is that Apple isn't going to get in the middle of giving the app as a free upgrade and selling the same version as a paid app. The version is either a paid app or a free app.
You are able to install the apps from the MAS on as many Macs as you own or have in your control. A Mac belonging to your employer, but which you share with other employees, is not in your control. A Mac issued to you by your employer for your sole use, is in your control.

  • I have a mac book running leopard software, 10.5.8 how can I get my computor up to date as loin requires minimum 10.6.6

I have a mac book running leopard software, 10.5.8 how can I get my computor up to date as lion requires minimum 10.6.6.

You can upgrade from 10.5 to 10.6 with no problems. Any program that runs under 10.5 should run under10.6. See this list for compatibility with 10.6: http://snowleopard.wikidot.com/  You might have to upgrade some drivers for printers, etc.... And you will have to install Rosetta if you have any Power PC applications http://www.macobserver.com/tmo/article/snow_leopard_installing_rosetta/
To upgrade your iLife and iWork. If you only want iPhoto or other single apps from iLife '11 you can get them from the App Store after you've upgraded to 10.6.6. iPhoto, iMovie or Garage Band for $15 each and Pages, Keynote or Numbers from iWork '09 for $20 each.
You can order a Snow Leopard 10.6 install disk for $29 as long as you have at least 1gb of RAM and 5gb of free space on your hard drive. http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573Z/A?mco=MTY3ODQ5OTY
Once you are at 10.6.8 you can buy Lion for $29 from the App Store if you have at least a model 2,1 MacBook. Lion will require at least 2gb of RAM but really needs 4gb to run smoothly. As for programs see this list for compatibility with 10.7 http://roaringapps.com/apps:table Also Lion doesn't run any Power PC programs. To see if you have any Power PC programs go to the Apple in the upper left corner and select About This Mac, then click on More Info. When System Profiler comes up select Applications under Software. Then look under Kind to see if any of your applications are listed as Power PC. Universal and Intel will run under Lion.
Before Mac switched to Intel processors they used Power PC processors from 1994 to 2005. Power PC 601 through 604, G3, G4 and G5. Applications written for the Power PC processors need the application called Rosetta to run on Intel processors. This was part of the Operating System in 10.4 and 10.5 but was an optional install in 10.6. With 10.7 Lion Apple dropped all support for Power PC applications.

  • If I buy Lion from apps store can I install it on all the Macs I own?

If I buy Lion from apps store can I install it on all the Macs I own?

Yes. Each one needs to have Snow Leopard 10.6.8 installed in order to re-download from the App Store unless you make your own USB flash drive installer:
    Make Your Own Lion Installer
    1. After downloading Lion you must first save the Install Mac OS X Lion application. After Lion downloads DO NOT click on the Install button. Go to your Applications folder and make a copy of the Lion installer. Move the copy into your Downloads folder. Now you can click on the Install button. You must do this because the installer deletes itself automatically when it finishes installing Lion.
    2. Get a USB flash drive that is at least 8 GBs. Prep this flash drive as follows:
Open Disk Utility in your Utilities folder.
After DU loads select your hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Note the SMART status of the drive in DU's status area.  If it does not say "Verified" then the drive is failing or has failed and will need replacing.  SMART info will not be reported  on external drives. Otherwise, click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed.
Select the volume you just created (this is the sub-entry under the drive entry) from the left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, check the button for Zero Data and click on OK to return to the Erase window.
Click on the Erase button. The format process can take up to several hours depending upon the drive size.
    3. Locate the saved Lion installer in your Downloads folder. CTRL- or RIGHT-click on the installer and select Show Package Contents from the contextual menu. Double-click on the Contents folder to open it. Double-click on the SharedSupport folder. In this folder you will see a disc image named InstallESD.dmg.
    4. Plug in your freshly prepared USB flash drive. You are going to clone the InstallESD.dmg disc image to the flash drive as follows:
    Open Disk Utility.
Select the USB flash drive from the left side list.
Click on the Restore tab in the DU main window.
Check the box labeled Erase destination.
Select the USB flash drive volume from the left side list and drag it to the Destination entry field.
Drag the InstallESD.dmg disc image file into the Source entry field.
Double-check you got it right, then click on the Restore button.
When the clone is completed you have a fully bootable Lion installer that  you can use without having to re-download Lion.

How to Install OS X Updates Successfully
    A. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions:
Boot from your current OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. Then select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer. Now restart normally.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior (4.0 for Tiger) and/or TechTool Pro (4.5.2 for Tiger) to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
    B. Make a Bootable Backup Using Restore Option of Disk Utility:
Open Disk Utility from the Utilities folder.
Select the destination volume from the left side list.
Click on the Restore tab in the DU main window.
Check the box labeled Erase destination.
Select the destination volume from the left side list and drag it to the Destination entry field.
Select the source volume from the left side list and drag it to the Source entry field.
Double-check you got it right, then click on the Restore button.
Destination means the external backup drive. Source means the internal startup drive.
    C. Important: Please read before installing:
If you have a FireWire hard drive connected, disconnect it before installing the update unless you will boot from this drive and install the update on it. Reconnect it and turn it back on after installation is complete and you've restarted.
You may experience unexpected results if you have installed third-party system software modifications, or if you have modified the operating system through other means. (This does not apply to normal application software installation.)
The installation process should not be interrupted. If a power outage or other interruption occurs during installation, use the standalone installer (see below) from Apple Downloads to update.  While the installation is in progress do not use the computer.
    D. To upgrade:
Purchase the Snow Leopard Retail DVD.
Boot From The OS X Installer Disc:
Insert OS X Installer Disc into the optical drive.
    Restart the computer.
Immediately after the chime press and hold down the "C" key.
Release the key when the spinning gear below the dark gray Apple logo appears.
Wait for installer to finish loading.
    E. If updating:
    Download and install update(s)
    Use Software Update, or
    Download standalone updater(s).

  • HT1338 I have a new mac mini and cannot download mountain lion from apps store gives error

I have a new 3rd gen i5 intel mini mac and it wont' download ML from app store  it gives the error
We could not complete your purchase. OS X Mountain Lion is not compatible with this computer.
I want to reinstall it for its running to slow and add only what I need.
it installs on my older mac mini

Assuming your mini came with ML installed and you have already made a backup of your personal data, restart the computer while also holding down 'Command-Opt-R' and it should reinstall automagically from Apple's servers.

  • I just bought macbook air yesterday. Do I need to buy OS X Moutain Lion from App store?

Please becase I saw from app store there hv a osx lion. Do i need to buy it to my new macbook air?

If you bought a new MacBook Air, it probably has OS X Mountain Lion, but to check this, open  > About this Mac, and check the version. If it's 10.8, you are running Mountain Lion.
The Mid 2013 MacBook Air uses a special OS X Mountain Lion version compatible with this MacBook, so you can't use the Mountain Lion version you can purchase at the Mac App Store. Instead, when you need to reinstall Mac OS X, use OS X Recovery > http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4718

P.S. - It also seems to have free shipping

  • I bought student mac air through university account, Iworks were included when I purchased mac air. But there are no iworks and It's not free when I tried to download from App Store

I bought student mac air through university account, Iworks were included when I purchased mac air. But there are no iworks and It's not free when I tried to download from App Store. OS was OS X Mountain Lion 10.9 When I received it. Is it because of OS? I upgraded to OS X Mavericks right after I got it.

Today, I went to the mac store and asked the staff about above issue. Apple obviously sent me a mac air which was manufactured before October 2013 and therefore, iworks and OX Mavericks weren't installed. I have refund for around £45 to purchase iworks. However, I wasn't happy with what Apple actually did. I asked for replacement and refund the one I got and getting the new one from store so I can use mac straight away. however, the refund takes 5-7 working days. The staff on the phone told me if I have enough money I can just buy the new one in the store and get refund later. So I gave up! I was so disappointed with Apple. Even though I use the mac now, this was not the one Apple promised when I purchased online. if anyone would like to buy a mac, Please go to the actual store. DO NOT buy a mac through MAC ONLINE STORE!!! I strongly recommend! I feel like I wasted my time because the company doesn't keep its promise.
