Could not activate i phone?

I am a granny who was given her daughter's old i phone when she upgraded last year. At some point the camera icon disappeared from the phone and no one could restore it. After purchasing a new Macbook this week I connected my i phone to i tunes and tried to follow some instructions to restore the camera (found on the internet). I think that what I did upgraded something on the phone, but now I have the message "Could not activate iPhone". I have done what it suggests but am still getting the same message.
Information = 01 216100 986232 3, iccid = unknown.Please help.

Yes it was unlocked unofficially, which has caused other problems too.
My daughter went to the contractor (Orange) to ask them to unlock it, but when they were not helpful, she went elsewhere.
Is this the only way to unlock the phone officially? If so, do Apple have any clout if Orange are unhelpful with me. My daughter has the same surname and initial as me, and I think, a current contract with them, so I can verify that I came by the phone legitimately.

There is nothing you can do. That is the Activation Lock that Apple has implemented tout down on theft of their iPhones.
Most likely the iPhone is stolen.
It is totally worthless to you.

Please help to investigate the problem as I could not activate the phone after updating software to iOS7. in the phone the erroe message is "Your iPhone could not be activated because the actiovation server cannot reached. Try connecting your iPhone to iTunes to activate it, or try again in a couple of minutes.
I have try to activate both of way such by WiFi & Cellular activation and connecting with iTunes but still face the problem and could not completed activation the phone.
How do i activate the phone or have to wait for hour not couple min as you suggested.

It's probably because the phone was jailbroken or hacked to unlock it. The update has bricked it.

Try making a new Apple ID? I don't really understand what you mean.. Make a new apple ID, log in with that one and then when you are on your phone log out of it and THEN log in our old ID? If you still can't log in the old one then it's most probably a bug or something.. Anyway.. Good luck with your problem!!

Could not activate the Iphone after updating

I just update the software and after updating, it shows on the phone slide to set up, I did it and put all the information that is needed but unfortunately I could not activate the phone, did it many times...but it shows, iphone could not be activated because the activation server is temporarily unavailable. I tried even connecting to itunes to activate but still same result...The iphone was perfectly working before I update the software...what must i do now? help me please.

Generally this is a sign that the iPhone has been jailbroken or hacked.
Google may provide some direction if this is the case.

Itunes displays a message saying "there is no SIM installed in the phone you're trying to activate" even if there is the same SIM that was working minutes before.
The SIM works on a different phone I tested it.

“Could Not Activate EDGE” error message Update ...
Well it’s going on day 6 and still sporadic to no EDGE on my iPhone. At one time, it was thought to be a defective iPhone – since my partner’s iPhone works just fine.
After over three hours on the land line with AT&T and Apple, I was sent to the local Apple store for a replacement. Of course, as soon as I walked into the Apple store my iPhone worked just fine. ;-( The local store replaced my iPhone and suggested I go home and activate the phone as a NEW iPhone, that way if there was a bug in my data it would not carry over to the new phone. Did that and well… still sporadic to no EDGE. By the way, I have the Big White “E” to the right of the 5 bars and AT&T .
AT&T said last week they has “Software” issues in my area, but the CSR I talked to did not know what the issues were or if they were the cause of my problems. He did say they would call me back today to see how my iPhone was doing, but alas, no call back.
When I’m next to my partner, trying to access the same feature, his iPhone is just so fast. Mine hangs up, draws out and finally I get the error message, “Could Not Activate EDGE”. I am updated to version “1.1.4(4A102)”. New (refurbished) iPhone direct from Apple.
I remember reading a while back about some problems others had when they upgraded to from 1.1.3 to 1.1.4. I never had those problems, but it sure looks like they may have started. Does anyone remember what the problems with 1.1.4 were, what was done if anything to correct them, and best of all any suggestions?
By the way, this is Seattle, not some small – out of the way place where connection and signal strength is expected to be second rate. Also, I had full function of my iPhone from the day I bought it in June 2007, all the way up to Thursday March 20, at 2120.

Most likely your phone is carrier locked to a different carrier than the SIM card you're using. It will activate and operate only with the carrier to which it's locked.

how old is the phone? was this the first time you are putting your sim in the iphone? if it is it might be locked to a previous carrier...if not, try to do a restore again and see if it picks up the sim card after. do the restore while the sim card is intact, and then not intact. otherwise, you'll might have to take it to an apple store to get it looked at.
