Could not be opened because you do not have sufficient access privileges

Hi, I just finished backing up my music onto my external HDD as per the 'Manual backup' instructions seen here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1553
The problem is, when I logged back into my main user account to disable the root user and check if my data had been copied properly before I deleted it, one of the music folders copied (the main 'Music' folder) wouldn't open, and now a message pops up every time I try to open it. "The folder "Music" could not be opened because you do not have sufficient access privileges."
The other files and folders copied are fine, it's just this one folder.
Should I log back in as the root user and delete it and try again, or is there something else I can do?
Thanks!

Hi, try doing a Get Info on it in the Finder, then near the bottom, unlock the Lock & change the owner to you Read & Write.

OPen your Users folder, Highlight the Desktop Folder, do a Get Info or CMD+i on it, see if it's locked or if you have Rights & Privileges at the bottom.

  • Anyone know what to do when it won't let you sync because you don't have enough access privileges?

Having trouble syncing my iphone to itunes. Keeps saying I don't have enough access privilege?

    Try a reset:
Hold the Sleep and Home button down for about 10 second until you see the Apple logo.

  • Preview: The file "_" could not be opened because you do not have permission...

Whenever I try to open an image, this will pop up.  I've read other discussions on this problem, I've followed the steps, and it still won't open.  Earlier today my computer was saying my startup disk was almost full, so I deleted most of my pictures.  At this point, I've tried Get Info > Sharing and Permissions > +admin and unlocking the lock in the bottom right.  Is there anything I'm missing or could do?
Also, I haven't used Time Machine at all.

That's not where you need to go.
You shouldn't have any reason to change permissions unless something changed them first.
Also, it may not be that the permissions are wrong, but something related to the disk being too full.
If all of those picutres are in your Home folder, and there is at least 9GB or free space, you'll need to reset your home folder permissions:
Boot into Recovery HD by holding down cmd-r on restart.
When that boots, open Terminal from the Utilities menu.
Type "resetpassword" without the quotes and hit return.
When the reset utility opens, select your hard drive, then your user name.
At the bottom of the window there is a button to Reset home folder permissions and ACLs; click that.
Quit out of that and also out of Recovery.
If the pictures are not in your home folder, that may be affecting your access.

  • Office 2004 could not be opend because you do not have sufficient access...

I just created a second user acount on my imac. I went to go and open microsoft word.
On the folder there was a little red circle with a line it it. I clicked on the folder and got this message.
The folder "Microsoft Office 2004" could not be opened because you do not have sufficient access privileges.
What does this mean and how do I fix it?

Select the folder in the Finder, choose Get Info from the File menu, and change the permissions in the Ownership & Permissions section so that all accounts have read and write access to that folder. You may need to change the folder's owner to your account first; if so, change it back when you've changed the permissions. Changing the permissions on other items in this folder may be needed.

  • Restore from Time machine: now I "do not have sufficient access privileges"

    Hi,
I recently needed to restore my ageing PowerMac G5 running Leopard from a Time machine backup.
This all seemed to go fine, except that having completed the backup I have the following problem:
My computer has 2 physical HDDs, 1 is partitioned in to 3 virtual disks, the other is for Time Machine so in effect Finder shows 4 disks.
The problem is that since the TM restore I can only open the System disk, all 3 other disks are throwing up:
"The folder "[NAME: eg Time Machine]" could not be opened because you do not have sufficient access privileges.
So how can I regain access to the other disks? I have been attempting to access them using my main Admin account.
Please help, I have huge amounts of important files which I thought I'd protected using TM & can no longer access any of them!!
    Thanks in advance.

The drop down menu is grayed out and I cannot change it from "No Access". Can that be made selectable somehow?

  • HELP!! When I open Photoshop CS3 it states "Could not initialize Photoshop because you do not have the necessary access privileges".

When I open Photoshop CS3 it states "Could not initialize Photoshop because you do not have the necessary access privileges".
Also, InDesign crashes when trying to open it.
    I am running OS X 10.6.8
The most recent task I did was a Mac OS snow leopard software update.
I created a new user account and both Photoshop and InDesign work perfectly when logged into that account, but the problem is persisting with my old account.
I tried, but didn't receive much help from Adobe.
    Any help would be appreciated!

I see. Well, if it works on a new account, then I guess that' good enough. You might still wanan try and fix your permissions on zthe otehr account, though. It may just require digging into the terminal and commandline operations to recursively apply this stuff to all folders and sub-folders...

  • PSD library: extension could not be opened because it is not signed correctly ! what can i do???

PSD CC: extension could not be opened because it is not signed correctly! What can i do???

The black screen can be an indication of permission issues or other things.  Make a temporary, backup copy (if you don't already have a backup copy) of the library and apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
    Fix #1
Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
Select the options identified in the screenshot.
    Fix #2
Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
Click on the Add Library button, navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File ➙ Rebuild Library menu option
In the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
    Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments but not books, calendars or slideshows. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

  • "could not be copied because you do not have permission to see its contents."

    Hi there,
I'm having an issue with using my ipod or iphone with iTunes recently.
If I have a third party app that supports carrying documents and files around on the device like a flash drive (such as Azul or Phone Drive) anytime I try to add a file on the device or copy it to the computer, it says "could not be copied because you do not have permission to see its contents."
This wasn't a problem a few days ago, as I use this process all the time. Does anyone know what I can do to fix this?
I have opened up the read/write privilages for all folder concerning itunes as far as I could tell and nothing changes.
    Thanks
    -Robert

Imagine if the error mesage in iTunes told the user there was such a simple solution. For example, if it said:
"__YourFile__ could not be copied because you do not have permission to see its contents. You probably can solve this by unlocking your iPhone."
Then people could just continue with what they are trying to do, rather than having to do a search here or on Google to find out what that unhelpful error message meant. Come on, Apple!

  • How do i resolve my itunes from saying " The itunes application could not be opened. You do not have enough access privileges for this operation."

Everytime i click to go to my itunes, the message "The Itunes application could not be opened. You do not have enough access privileges for this operation." pops up. I have tried my best to fix it by adding another account to my computer and setting that one as the administator and mine as the regular user. When i did that the itunes worked on both, but when i changed my account back to administator and the other account to the regular user my account didnt work but the other one did. I also tried to uninstall and reinstall itunes. This message popped up when i tried to update the itunes to the newest one. And still it wont go away. Can someone help me please. Thanks!

  • Help! "The iTunes application could not be opened. You do not have enough access privileges for this application"

I am getting the following error when trying to open iTunes: "The iTunes application could not be opened. You do not have enough access privileges for this application." I am logged in with the admin (and only) user account on my laptop, so I'm confused as to why this would start happening all of the sudden.
I poked around in the control panel trying to find random options that would fix it, but nothing has. I'm running Windows 7.

I have installed ACDSee Pro3 and have problem to transfer photofiles from device: I got the message; The item could not be edited because you do not have sufficent access privileges or destination volume is no longer available." What can I do?

Ask the ACDSee Pro support personnel.
With iPhoto that message means the library is a referenced library (photo not copied when imported into iPhoto's structure) and the source file is not where it was when first added to the library.  I don't know how ACDSee works. Does it have a referenced mode as opposed to copying photos into its structure?

What??? No one else has access to my computer....now I can´t open my 300 Gb on my hdd in my Macbook Pro. Help?

I've had this happen a few times before. What I found works is repairing the permissions. To do so click on go and then to utilities. click disk utilities. In disk utilities select the drive and click repair permissions. It may take a little time but try accessing after that.
