  • Could not complete iTunes Store request. An unknown error occurred (-4)

Apologies if this is a FAQ, these forums are a little hard to search.
    Mac OS 10.5.1
    iMac 2.8
    ITunes 7.15
    iPod
    IPhone
I recently upgraded to the Mac above, added Lepoard, and could sync my music successfully. Then added an iPhone to the list in the last week or so, and also could sync. However, started to get error messages for many of the music in the library, which seemed to require me to re-authorize using some of the older account names I purchased under. Any attempt now to re-authorize the music, or re-authorize (or de-authorize) the computer, with any of the accounts, gives me the messsage in the subject line.
"Could not complete iTunes Store request. An unknown error occurred (-4)"
So now I have about 30 gigs of uplayable music. Not happy. Any ideas ?

I just synced my iPhone and got some errors stating that a few songs weren't authorized to play (it synced fine yesterday). I decided to deauthorize all computers (since I forgot to deauthorize two older ones a while ago). When I tried to reauthorize, I kept getting the -4 error. I had to try at least 5 times before it finally worked. Apple's servers must be getting hammered.
I'm not sure if this matters... but on the last attempt that worked, I went to the menu-Store-Authorize Computer (instead of clicking on a iTunes purchase to authorize).
<My address book (synced to Yahoo) is also unable to sync with my iPhone suddenly, too. Something weird is going on>

  • Could not complete iTunes store request error 4002

When I try to update the Genius app I get the above message " We could not complete your iTunes store request  An Unknown error ocurred, 4002". I also get this error message when I launch the ITunes. I've searched the ITunes for Windows commmunity and found noithing but I found some fixes for Macs with the same problem. Help!!!!!!

    Perfect - thanks so much!
For anyone else wondering, the clue was in what was displayed on the screen after I turned iTunes Match on again: it asked whether I wanted to add this computer. Having copied my iTunes library over from the old machine, I'd completely forgotten that iTunes Match identifies each computer uniquely (not each iTunes Library), so was never going to work with this one until I specifically added it. Sorted!

  • Could not complete iTunes Store request.  The Store may be busy.

    ***?!
i got two iphones. the first one activated just fine.
the second keeps giving me this on a different iTunes account on a different laptop.
i don't even get to the first page of activation. is the iTunes store for iPhone activation down?

Sure blame Vista. You clearly have no idea what you're talking about, but instead of going into detail, I'll just say that I rebooted my MacBook Pro into OS X (latest version with all updates) and got the same error. I know this error isn't an overload because I'm not even getting as far as everyone else is. The error also comes back immediately leading me to believe this is the default error message for 500-level server errors. Of course try explaining that to the moron's you get on the phone (granted... they are friendly... just unhelpful, though it's clearly not their faults).
This is insane. I can't believe how terrible this launch went. They KNEW they'd get this many people on. How could they not stress test their system? Plus... everyone you call is no help at all.
I'm just going to go in and trade this for annother and then I'll bet I'll be free of this bug (and be able to at least get to the point where I'll be waiting for my activation email, like the rest of you).

  • Could not complete iTunes store request... still!?

Am I the only person who STILL can't access the activation process in iTunes? It doesn't seem like this is still happening for most people. I have been trying for several hours. I do have the most current version of iTunes.
    Weird...

What version of the Mac OS or Windows do you have? You must have OSX 10.4 or above, and some versions of Vista (I think the 64 bit versions) have been having problems (as iTunes 7.3 doesn't work properly on that version of Vista).

  • Authorization-Could not complete Music Store Request. Unknown error -208

My daughter, has an IPod and uses Itunes ver 6.
She only uses her ipod and itunes from a single computer.
Recently, I upgraded her Hard drive - Everything was copied over at the partician level to the new drive using Maxblast 4.
ITunes now comes up ok but She cannot play any of her purchased songs or videos. It even has removed the purchased items from her Ipod.
When I try to play a purchased song or video from Itunes. it prompts me to authorize the computer.
When I do that and enter the user name, pw info, etc it returns a screen that says Machine Authorization was Successful. You Have authorized a total of 1 machines out of your available 5. but when I click OK it then gives me another screen saying We could not complete your Music Store Request. An Unknown error has occurred (-280 ) There was an error in the Music store. Please try again later. I have tried multiple times over the past 2 days and get the same response. How do I fix it?
    HP   Windows XP

Interestingly enough - I can access iTunes by using the search feature. For example if I want U2 I can search on U2 and get into the store. But under no circumstances can I get to the iTunes Home page.
It’s not a firewall - at least no on the network. I have 5 Mac’s on the network - all but one have no problem with iTunes - even when I log in under the problematic account. It seems to be something on the one MacBook that is blocking iTunes.
    Hope somebody can help.

  • ITunes wil not download iTunes Store purchases to my network drive

I have iTunes 8.2.1.6 loaded. I can't remember when the last upgrade came through and not sure when the downloads to my network drive stopped working, but they used to work.
I first set-up iTunes on my Win XP laptop in January 2008. I already had my network set-up at home and had been storing my music and media on a network drive for long before that. Initially everything was fine, iTunes connected and created the library. It also allowed me to download from the store directly to my mapped network drive.
The library still works and still picks up all the music and media from my network drive. The problem is, whenever I try to purchase from iTunes Store, the download fails and says the disk is full (it's not - there's 70GB left on it). If I set my iTunes Music Folder location to be local C: drive, it downloads with no issue. Problem is I only have between 2 and 5GB left on my C: drive and it's only a 30GB drive to begin with, so way too small for my library.
Recently (July) I purchased a TV Episode from iTunes Store. It tried to download 6 separate instances, every one failed. When I switched my iTunes Music Folder location to C:, it finally downloaded. I switched my folder location back to the network on completion and manually moved the TV episode to the network (it was a HD+SD download, so multiple copies, and the meta data / library entry now seems to be screwed!).
Today I have tried to download an album and I get the same error about the network disk being full! This is too much hassle and not endearing me in anyway to Apple!
If anyone has any ideas as to how I might resolve this, I'd be very grateful.
    Cheers

I am having a similar problem for 3 weeks now, and wasted hours messing with our Firewall software, etc. thinking that was the problem. Thanks to your post I tried changing the Itunes Music Folder location temporarily to our C: drive, and voila-- suddenly downloads can be completed. We choose to keep our Itunes library folder on a separate networked hard drive, and ever since we updated to Itunes 8.2.1.6 we've been unable to download purchased music to this drive. We had no problems for the last 2 years with previous versions of Itunes & our preference configurations for the library. The error message I got when I tried to download purchased content (both music & video) was "error (-48) unknown error. unable to complete download... check network connection and try again". Of course our PC WAS connected to the internet, and I could access the Store and download from other websites, just not Itunes.
Could this be related?? : Looking in my Itunes folder in the networked drive, I tried to delete the Downloads folder (after reading a suggestion in a forum to delete purchased music files if they were partially downloaded, and then try to download them again). I have been unable to delete or rename this folder, getting this error message: "Cannot delete Downloads. The file or directory is corrupted & unreadable".
A separate, Itunes bug related to Music Folder location-- we also had a major problem trying to get the location of all our music properly identified in Itunes library with this latest software version. We had to wipe our C: hard-drive due to a virus, and when we downloaded the updated Itunes software & set the preferences to point to the library on our networked drive, it isn't properly identifying thousands of the files (we have ~10,000 songs. The "Consolidate files" feature is very buggy, and only worked for maybe 1/5 of the files before stopping. We don't want to keep trying to run it, because we are afraid we'll end up with even more duplicate "ghost" files than we have now ("Unable to locate file" under "Get info" the "where" field is blank. We've had to manually load folders from the networked hard drive one by one, using the
"Add Folder to Library" feature. This is taking forever, as this needs to be done for 100's of artist folders, then we have to delete the duplicate music files that still appear in the library!!

    HELP PLZ

    Welcome to the Apple community.
Alerts with codes in the 3000 range generally mean that iTunes cannot contact the gs.apple.com server on ports 80 or 443. This may be because out-of-date or incorrectly configured security or firewall software is interfering, or due to your Internet proxy settings. If you are using a proxy, try removing the proxy settings, or using a known-good network. If that does not resolve the issue, follow iTunes for Windows: Troubleshooting security software issues.
