Could not complete operation - pathfinder in InDesign CS4
Trying to do a very basic shape substraction and I get the "could not complete operation. Pathfinder result describes empty region." I've been looking for a solution or patch but don't seem to find any and many of the posts seem old, don't work or don't offer any solutions.
Am I missing something or can't find it? Or is the pathfinder pallette in ID pretty much useless. Any input would be helpful. Thanks in advace.
This was a basic square atop a basic circle (subtracting to create basically a half circle) drawn with basic. Yesterday tried adding and other just to see and its the same message. Now I just did it again, in reviewing your responses and it worked in a fresh document. Crazy. Could it be a memory thing? I tried the clean document yesterday and it didn't work. The only thing different today was closing InDesign opening and starting with a new document and doing this action first thing.
Thanks guys. Though I prefere Illustrators pathfinders too I did find IDs to be useful in a pinch which I guess may be a feature lost.

Double click AI CS2 file, "Could not complete operation"
Hi All,
I do have an AI CS2 issue: When I double click and AI file to open, when AI is not running, I get the "could not complete operation" message. If I open AI first, then open the file all is well. I used to be able to open AI by doulble clicking the AI file.
Any idea why that is?

Save for Web error: Could not complete operation
Hi everyone.
I'm having trouble using the Save For Web function on Photoshop CS6. The initial dialog opens fine and I can select any file type to save to etc.
Once I click 'Save...' I get the error "Could not complete this operation. An unknown operating system error has occurred."
I have looked up this error and from previous threads I have tried deleting the Save for Web library files and restarting, however this doesn't work (Unless I am deleting the wrong file?).
I'm running a 2.6 GHz Retina Macbook Pro with the latest update installed for Photoshop. I have 16 GB ram.
Strangely, I have a PC running the same version of Photoshop CS6 and it works fine for this function.
Any idea what this could be? I have posted my system info below.

Installed TWAIN devices: NONEI found the solution (took forever to consolidate all the answers) for OS X 10.9 + Maverick. Finally!
1. Change permissions (as AOTPR says) to your User/Library/Preferences file so that your admin and user (the one you are using) has read + write permissions within the Get Info pane (command+I). You may have to add them with the sign.
2. Delete Adobe save for web 12.0 Prefs & Adobe save for web 13.0 Prefs files within the User/ Library/ Preferences folder. These may be hidden for some people, so when in a finder window, hold Option(alt) and click Go from the main top menu (keep holding Option/Alt) and click Library — the full Preferences folder should open for you.
3. Change the view when in Save for web pane in PS. If you have it in Cover Flow — it won't work. Change it to another view like List or Columns view.
Presto! Works for me on Maverick.

There used to be some trouble with Animated Gif but I believe they were sold already. Try to select the file and with right mouse click use option to purge cache for selection. Otherwise check another animated gif if it has the same problem. -
Recently upgraded to a Canon Mark 3 and now having issues with my RAW files in Bridge and Photoshop. I have operating with CS4. Photoshop produces and error " Could not complete your request because photoshop does not recognize this type of file"
Assuming you mean 5D Mark III, Photoshop CS4 cannot directly open raw files from your camera.
Generally speaking, Adobe stopped updating older versions to be able to read raw files from newer cameras when they released a new major version of Photoshop. Photoshop CS4 is no longer receiving Camera Raw updates.
You can double check this yourself:
First you need to determine whether Adobe has released support for your new camera in your version of Photoshop. To do that, look at these two pages. You'll want to find out the earliest version of Camera Raw that can support your camera, then what version of Photoshop can run that version of Camera Raw.

The DNG converter DOES work, but if you want maximal quality from your raw files (not to mention the convenience and ease of use of directly opening your raw files) you'll want the latest version of Photoshop. Adobe has made substantial improvements in raw conversion quality in recent years.

Getting this message when opening CS4 illustrator "could not complete the requested operation"
Afternoon all, Simply put someone in my art dept is suddenly getting this message "could not complete the requested operation"
when trying to open CS4 Illustrator. I am running Windows 7 Professional 64bit. CS4 is completely up to date. And Photoshop and other applications are working as they should. Have restarted, Tried moving the Users\Appdata\Roaming and Local\Adobe\ Folders to the desktop but it didnt help. Any and all suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Well I deactivated and uninstalled. Ran the cleaner, and Illustrator is still not working. Going to try a system restore within windows 7 to see if something could have messed with the program.

I've searched online and in the forums for a solution to this issue. I'm running OS X 10.5.8 and have CS4 installed. Every other application in the suite works except Illustrator. I get the error "could not complete the requested operation" on startup and then Illustrator tries to send a crash report.
I'm out of town and don't have my original copies of the software with me so I cannot reinstall. >_<
Does anybody know how this might be fixed? I really need to get some work done and I'm stuck!you probably did not read that document I gave you a link to becuse i think they mention the problem you are encountering and why.

Illustrator CC 2014 won't open "could not complete requested operation"
I can not get my Illustrator CC 2014 to open any longer. Lately when I try to open the program I get the following error; "Could not complete requested operation". My other Creative Cloud applications, Photoshop, InDesign, and Acrobat are all working. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the program to no avail. Any help would be greatly appreciated as I have jobs starting to pile up.

I've searched and read several threads on this topic, but the behavior I'm seeing here seems different.
I'm using AI CS2, XP.
Try to start AI. It immediately shuts itself down, no error message.
I close Firefox.
Try to start AI. "Could not complete the requested operation." And shuts down.
I close MSIE.
Try to start AI. "Could not complete the requested operation." And shuts down.
Closed Acrobat.
Started AI and it worked for a while, but stalled later -- I could not select the Window button at the top or any other buttons. Performance became sluggish. Did not close AI ...
Closed InDesign.
After that, AI has been working fine. Even though I reopened MSIE.
Could the problem be something in my memory/swap file/whatever settings?
I had the same problem on my old PC, but I thought it was a memory issue since I only had 1.5 GB of RAM (I had adequate, although not excessive, hard drive space). But this is a new computer with 3GB of RAM, a zippy processor, and I have tons and tons of empty hard drive space.
If not memory, could it have something to do with files that are in use when any of those other apps (Firefox, etc.) are running? (Not that I'd know how to do anything about it.)
AI is the only app that behaves this way. Normally I can run ID, PS, Firefox, MSIE, Word, Quark, Acrobat and Eudora at the same time with no noticeable performance problems. And I do this on a daily basis.
I've tried deleting the prefs file, but the problem keeps happening, so I don't think it's prefs. And I see from my reading that a corrupt font might be the culprit, but how often does anyone get a corrupt on PC?? I think I've had a corrupt font once in all the years I've been doing DTP on PC.
Anyway, all my fonts seem to work just fine, so I don't know how I'd know if one was corrupt.
I'm open to suggestions. I hate having to shut down a bunch of apps just to run AI.

Nope, I didn't reuse RAM (or anything else) from the old PC. Everything is brand new. I wanted to keep the old PC completely intact (as a backup).
I hadn't patched AI or ID, so I did that. Then I opened a bunch of apps and tried to start AI, but got the "Could not complete the requested operation" message again.
Had to shut down an app (Nero, FWIW) to get AI to start. At the time, about half of my RAM was in use, my PF usage was 1.29 GB, and CPU usage was very low (like 3%).
AI is running now. But I'd still like it to run whenever I want, with no squawking about requested operations.
And yes, I had the same problem on the old PC. One big advantage of the old PC is that I still have old versions of everything (AI, PS, ID) installed, so when AI 12 refused to start, I'd just use the previous version.
But I didn't install any old versions of Adobe software on the new PC, just CS2.
OT: Should I also update PS? Apparently I haven't done that either.

Hi guys, my Illustrator CC 2014 won't launch, getting an error message "Could not complete the requested operation", this is not a specific file issue I can't launch Illustrator stand alone. I've un-installed and re-installed about 3 times and contacted support but they haven't been able to solve as of yet. It's a relatively fresh install of windows 8.1 and no custom fonts have been added. I've tried deleting the preferences folders and launching and that has not had any effect. No idea what else I can do, any help would be greatly appreciated.
Edit: Forgot to mention I have also tried running Illustrator as administrator and that Illustrator was running perfectly fine on this computer since install (about 2 weeks) before this started happening.

ChrisHi Jacob, I decided to completely remove the entire creative suite from my computer, ran the cleaning tool (although some errors showed in the log file) and it now works! Let's just pray it stays this way haha. Thanks for the suggestion.

Illustrator CS5.1 will not open on OS X Lion 10.7.5 - "Could not complete the requested operation."
Out of the blue, I can't get my Illustrator CS5.1 application to open. Instead the app icon bounces on the dock and the message "Could not complete the requested operation." appears.
I have tried restarting the application, restarting the computer, I have tried holding Command+Option+Shift while opening, I have tried various methods of editing the "Adobe Illustrator CS5.1 Settings" folder, I have tried moving other application folders and font folders, all without success.
The application is installed on a computer in my office and was installed as a downloadable upgrade to CS4. I was thinking a solution might be to install Illustrator, but I haven't been able to find a link to the CS5 program downloads.
Today I tried to get help from Adobe Customer Support, who informed me that they no longer support CS5 and directed me to the forums instead. Any solutions???Hi,
It was never completely clear whether it was just hidden or whether Apple ran a download page for iChat 6.
As the Download for Messages Beta was separate and "Deleted" iChat it would seem it would be another download for iChat 6.
iMessages will not function as it is only an Account type within Messages and iChat 6 does not have it.
Therefore messages on the iPhone will not sync to the Mac. (until you get Mountain Lion and Messages in that OS X version).
Mountain Lion and it's full version of Messages will not sync the iMessages that have happened in between the 14th December 2012 (end date of Messages beta) and the Install of Mountain Lion if you decide on that route.

Tech Help....Cannot finish previewing, could not complete requested operations
Help Please. I am running illustrator CS4 on a Mac.
While working on Illustrator files, drawing, saving and opening/closing files over a perior of time, I suddenly get this message "Cannot finish previewing could not complete the requested operation."
When this happens, the screen goes into Outline Mode, sometimes it allows me to save, other times it crashes CS4 Illustrator.
This is resolved by restarting the computer and relaunching illustrator. I have not had any problem at the launch of the application.
Please help! This is now happening multiple times per day.Have you already tried these general troubleshooting tips?

Photoshop CS4: Could not complete your request because of a program error.

I find myself in an interesting dilemma. I've had CS4 for a bunch of years now and have loved it. Unfortunately, my MacBook Pro's hard drive crashed a month or so back. Luckily, I have been using an external hard drive to back up my computer, so when it crashed, I lost very little in comparisson to some horror stories I've heard.
My Ps was able to retuned to my new hard drive with virtually no problems. However, the error "Could not complete your request because of a program error" shows up in rapid succession 5-10 times after I select the text tool. Interestingly enough, if I weather that storm, I'm able to use all the fonts, actions, etc. with no problems. Originally, it was simply a nuissance that I dealt with, but it's beginning to hamper my work, especially today when I was on deadline.
Doing some research and reading around the web and given the most culpable reason seems to be something wrong with a font, but I don't know which font I'm missing, need to update, whatever.
So here's my question: how do I get this thing to go away? Is there some file or something like that buried in a backup that I didn't bring over to the new hard drive that's causing the problem. At first, I was just happy to have the thing working after the crash, but it's getting pretty annoying.

I'm perfectly fine deleting all the fonts and reinstalling just the ones needed for PsCS4 if there's a file of that. -

My first frustration right now is that I can't search the forums... anyone got an answer to that? on the right hand side (if I'm logged in) I type in a search for anything and it always shows no search results found! Why? is the search function not working?
Anyway, my problem is that when I try to save a multi-layered psd file into psd or jpg I get this error message: "Could not complete your request because of a program error."
What is causing it?
I checked for updates and PS is up-to-date. I restarted, and it worked great for about 3 saves (different pictures). (I'm basically running through some shots and just doing a quick levels and curves adjustment and running an action putting in my name watermark.)
After that quick edit and trying to save - same error message again.
It started suddenly yesterday - after having used PS for about 1.5 years without a problem. I haven't done any changes to it as far as I'm aware.
Any one seen this before, or have a solution to this?

750 GB OS hdd where PS is installed
2 TB Media drive where the files are being pulled up from/saved to.

Logged in as administrator.Did you update or change or plug-in or remove anything else on your computer just before it happened? Photoshop relies on other system libraries to do things and maybe one of those changed.
No, I did not change anything; I was editing pictures - from a quadding trip where they asked me to shoot for them - and suddenly I started getting the message on most pictures.
Hard drives are not nearly full. (.99 TB free on media drive and 588 GB free on OS {C} Drive)
scandisk error check? I probably need that.. (I've had some problems with BSOD and had the BIOS corrupted recently that I had to flash the BIOS again. Could that cause something like this?)
How do you reset preferences? Is it the Ctrl + Shift + Alt key immediately after PS starts? I did that and it didn't fix it.
Saving in odd location? No, I don't think so; I save to the same place I save other stuff and I have a solid directory base and I always follow the same procedures. I save back into the same folder I open the file from and save back to the same filename + "edit". That way I can compare side by side and have a backup copy of the file.
The only USB device plugged into the computer is a logitech wireless combo of keyboard and mouse. (And a wired USB keyboard that sits to the side and that I use only when the batteries in my wireless dies.
I can't think of anything that has changed that would cause PS to act like this.
If I can't get it working soon, I'll re-install. I have the Production Premium CS4 version - can I just reinstall PS or would I have to do the whole suite?

PS. I don't know if I was clear enough on what I'm doing: I open anywhere from 1 - 20 pictures at once, and then do a quick level or curve adjustment and save to a different file name. The confusing thing is - some pictures I have no problem with, but others - even though I do exactly the same thing - this error message comes up. I'd say about half of my 107 pictures from the quadding trip refused to save.
It almost makes it seem like some pictures are corrupt or something - and yet, I'd be really surprised to have soo many corrupted images suddenly.

Thats pretty much it. Took the video less just over a week ago, subsequent videos and pics have been uploaded without issue and are easy to locate. Just cant find the couple of videos from that day. Cheers MCJ
