Could not complete the command because of a problem using the Adobe Colour Engine??

When I am playing back a set of recorded actions, I receive a message that says "Could not complete the command because of a problem using the Adobe Colour Engine". This occurs after I copy a part of an image to paste it onto a new file. It occurs during the "Make" part(making a new file) and I was just wondering how to fix it.

It's a known (but esoteric) bug in Photoshop CS5 and earlier, seen with grayscale images.  It used to crash utterly, but after I reported it I think they patched Photoshop 12.0.something to avoid the crash.  However, the step still fails when you make a new grayscale image in an action.
I saw it because I created an action to paste the clipboard into new document, all in one motion.  It virtually always works as long as I have a colored image in the clipboard.  But not grayscale.
One workaround, which is not particularly convenient, is to turn on prompting for the Make new image step.  I haven't used this workaround for a while, but it used to be that if you confirmed the "File New" operation manually it would continue and work.  I don't know if the workaround is still valid.

  • Could not complete Save command because there is not enough memory (RAM).

So yeah. Recently I keep facing this problem when I am using my PSCS5. It happens randomly, be it on single-layered work or multi-layered ones.
I can't do anything because when this happens... yeah, I lose my work for sure - I can close every program except PS but it is still like this. In fact it just happened again, which prompted me to put this up.
I took a screenshot although I think it is not needed. Basically this error occurs. And it doesn't... tell me what to do.
The thing is, I am on Win7, 3GB usable. Based on my task manager I have only used 1.91GB of memory - there's a whole 1 GB more unused, yet I get this error. CPU usage is at a sweet 1~5%.
So... any advice on what I am supposed to do? >< Thanks all.

Though most of my experience is with Photoshop on my 64 bit system, I do do some testing on Windows 7 32 bit, and frankly I'm not finding problems with cranking the Photoshop RAM use even all the way up.  I do this sometimes because my own plug-ins use malloc() and free(), not Photoshop's buffer suite, in some places and I need to see how they behave when Photoshop's got all the RAM for itself.
Thing is, Photoshop really CAN'T grab all the RAM for itself on a 3 GB 32 bit system...  It can only glom on to up to only 2 GB in the normal case, so I really, really doubt that having your RAM setting up to (only) 75% is a problem.
Common lore about how to manage Photoshop's memory use is somewhat based on past experience with different operating systems, and that's simply been changed some with the modern Windows systems.
But I hope that the change does help you.  Maybe just that it's different will be helpful, in that it will move things around.

  • Photoshop CS5-Could not complete your request because of a problem with the file-format module interface.

When I always try to open a picture, a pop-up always open displaying the said message. What will I gonna do? Help, please!

Without proper system information and other details like what pictures you are trying to open from which storage locations nobody can tell you much.

  • Could not complete import command.

    Hello,
I get an error message that says "Could not complete import command because of a problem with the acquistion interface." I've commented out all of my code and even the code inside of the main entry point and still get this error. What causes this problem? Thank you.

Could be a bad PiPL description, could be that you aren't returning the right value for success in your code, etc.
Go back to the example code that you know works, then work forward to your code and test it at each step.

  • Trying to render smart filters at high resolution: 'Could not complete the command because Appletalk is not connected'

I'm trying to increase the size of a large file for printing as a banner. Whether I try to up the resolution or increase the size (maintaining the resolution) I get an error when the resizing finishes and it tries to recreate the halftone filter:
'Could not complete your command because Appletalk is not connected'
    Any ideas?
    Colin
    Macbook Pro (late 2013)
    2.3 Intel i7
    16gb Memory
Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce GT 750M 2048 MB.

I seem to be able to work around the problem by converting the image I want to halftone into a smart object. That said, the error has popped up again a few times, especially when I've tried to apply the filter to an object that's larger than the canvas. I have to crop it to the canvas size and then it seems to work. The message has also popped up doing other random things.
It seems to be connected to lack of space for my scratch disks more than anything (though correlation is not causation so who knows). What that has to do with a network error God alone knows though.

  • Error message "could not complete the video frames to layers command because dynamiclink is not avai

So I decided to try my hand at making gifs and so I attempted to upload a video by going to file -> import -> video frames to layers. Before even letting my pick my video it comes up with an error message saying "could not complete the video frames to layers command because dynamiclink is not availible." I then tried file -> open -> and then selected the video and no matter what file type or size I chose I ended up with the same error message.
I looked this problem up and attempted some of the solutions but to no avail. I tried clearing my preferences and restarting photoshop many times in addition to restarting my computer. I also checked to make sure it wasn't being blocked by any firewalls and it wasn't. My opperating system is Windows 7 and I'm using photoshop cs6. I've looked everywhere for an answer to this problem so if anyone is able to help me solve this problem I'd be much obliged.

You see my C:\ drive is quite small as it's a SSD, so I made Adobe install programs on my E:\ drive too, however this was the main cause for Adobe not to function.
After adjusting the settings to install everything back to my C:\ drive, it fixed my issue above and allowed me to run the 64bit version.

  • Could not complete the command because of a problem using the Adobe Color Engine

    Hi all
This bizarrely started this morning - completely out of the blue - and I've no idea why.
Setup: Mac 10.8.2 / Creative Suite Premium PhotoShop CS5 extended (patched to 12.04)
Am working on images exported from LightRoom 4 (16bit A3 Pro Photo RGB PSDs) in PhotoShop CS5.
As part of my image grading process I have a PhotoShop Action that does the following: copy layer to new document (document respects all of copied layer settings) > Image > Adjustments > HDR toning > apply a certain HDR preset > copy to resultant image back to original doc > set opacity as 40%.
Totally out of the blue, after having this action for about 2 months, this morning I start getting a warning dialog of "Could not complete the command because of a problem using the Adobe Color Engine" and the action fails. The failure seems to take place at the 'make document' part of the action and seems to somehow be related to the contents of the clipboard.
I've tried trashing and re-creating the action. It works first time out fine and then - on the next image - errors again.
At present I can only safely carry out the work 'manually' by completing all the actions myself.
I can think of no settings that have changed and the OS hasn't been updated in a while.
I have found one other thread on a similar problem in PhotoShop Elements, but no definitive solution.
Any help appreciated as I have a shedload of stuff to process.
    Best wishes
    TP

OK: trash of prefs didn't work. Tried thrice. Re-created orig action. same problem.
    BUT!
Your 'Image > Duplicate' suggestion does seem to work. If I use that in a new action as the method for creating the HDR version doc (instead of 'Select > Copy > New > Paste), it seems to work.
Will try that out this afternoon, but for now: WIN!
    Many thanks for the suggestion!

  • Could not complete the Crop command because of a program error - Win 7

So I use PS CC everyday for cropping out images from design mockups for websites.
Yesterday (1 April 2014) I got a new comp from the designer with some updated images. So I opend the comp, and began to setup the cropped area with my guides. I then grabbed the marquee tool and made my selection, clicked Image->Crop, and then I get an error message.
"Could not complete the Crop command because of a program error."
    Well that is helpful.
So now its "Help me Google, you're my only hope.", after about an hour or so of searching this error I find that it mostly happens to Mac users. I am using Windows 7. I also find that people are trying to get information form a PSErrorLog.txt file that is suppsoed to be located in the "Preferences Folder"... again I am on Windows 7.
So more searching to find the Windows eqivelant of this file's location: C:\Users\{USERNAME}\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CC\Adobe Photoshop CC Settings
Only to find there is no PSErrorLog.txt file. I do have a sniffer-out.txt file and a bunch of .psp files, a SynchFiles folder and 2 Workspaces folders (one Modified).
So I say to myself, "Well, I have cloud and a fast connection, won't take long to reinstall." So I delete PS ( I am also runnig DW, FL, Br, and AI ), and PS only. I do not run the cleaner tool as it only wants to delete a PS driver, or EVERYTHING!, which I do not want to do, I just want to delete PS. So I delete PS and check for anything left behind (why is there always stuff left behind? Apparently DELETE really means "Only delete some parts of the app that are required to make it work, and leave the rest behind.", or something.). Anyway, I then reinstall, go to crop again, and get the same error.
So here I am, "Help me Adobe Forums, you're my only hope."

    Mylenium,
You are correct. But none of that information, or those parameters, have ever had any effect on cropping anything in PS before. I crop vector smart objects brought in from AI all the time. In this case, yes the layers I am trying to crop are vector smart objects, which I rasterized and merged, then resaved the document and still get the same issue.
But, going off of your suggestion, I did flatten the image completely and I am now able to crop it without error. I suspect that there is something else in the layers that maybe causing this issue, as you have mentioned.
Thank you for your input, while you may not have known it, you gave me at least somewhere to start to try and figure out what is happening.

  • How do I resolve: "Could not complete the Crop command because the file is not compatible with this version of Photoshop" error message?

Photoshop document created in current version of PSCC2014, now will not crop, resize, etc without throwing compatibility error.
"Could not complete the Crop command because the file is not compatible with this version of Photoshop."
How do I resolve without recreating the file?

    Ooops.  Hit save reply prematurely.
You may be able to open the flattened composite or the embedded JPEG preview of your file in Adobe Illustrator, GraphicConverter (Mac only) or some such application, but your layers will be gone.
The problem of working across a network is that it's not supported by Adobe:
This is the boilerplate text often used in connection to saving to a network (please NOTE the part where it explains that normally, it does work, but that it is impossible to troubleshoot someone else's network remotely, and that's why it's not supported by Adobe):
If you are opening files over a network or saving them to a network server, please cease and desist immediately in the event you are currently experiencing problems with one or more files. Working across a network is not supported.
    See:
    http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/406/kb406793.html
Copy the CLOSED file from your server to your local hard disk, work on it, save it again to your local hard disk, close it, and copy the closed file back to the server.
Of course, the fact that Adobe does not support working across a network does not necessarily mean it won't work.   It should.
Adobe's position is that there are too many variables in a network environment for them to guarantee that everything will work correctly in every network, especially given the fact that if something does not work properly, it's probably the network's fault, and Adobe has no way of troubleshooting your network.
If you can't work locally, you are on your own, and if something happens, you're on your own. If you must work from a server, make sure your network administrator is a competent professional.
When problems arise, a lot of valuable work can be lost.

  • Could not complete the command because the extension could not be loaded

I was working in 3D with PS CS5 Extended. I went to the Window drop down menu and selected Color. I got the message "Could not complete the command because the extension could not be loaded" and the color pallet and swatches would not appear. I had to click on OK the error message three times to get rid of it as it kept reappearing. The the mini bridge and Brush pallets opened, including Brush Presets tab and Clone Source tab instead of the color pallets. How can I get my color pallets back?
I am on an iMac Intel core i3 running OS X Lion 10.7.2
    Thanks for any help.
    Thanks,
    Don

I unstalled Photoshop.  Then I installed on another drive.  External.  It did the same thing!!!!  No mini-bridge, or any extentions loading.  I don't know what is wrong.
I read something somewhere about a Panels file in photoshop.  So I'm looking there.

  • Could not complete the new 3D extrusion from selected layer command because the path is too complex.

I was trying to do a photo of mine like in this video but its not working help needed. thanks.
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=egyLY78H7nE
When I tried the 3D I got an error message that said (could not complete the new 3D extrusion from selected layer command because the path is too complex.) what does this mean and how can i fix it?

There was a bug at one time where really simple paths (like a triangle, for example) could cause that error.
Is your path really simple (I don't plan to go watch the video)?  If so, have you installed the latest update for Photoshop?  That bug may have been fixed already.
If it's not that, it's possible that if your path is really complex and simply exceeding Photoshop's capability.

  • Could not complete the Refine Edge command because of a program error.

This is kind of me being a smart ***… but, I’ve found an Error with the new refine edge. And I’ve solved the problem:
If you check “remember settings” and refine a selection with output set to “New Layer with Layer Mask” and then try and refine another selection when you have an adjustment layer selected, the “New Layer with Layer Mask” is greyed out, but unless you change the output setting to something not greyed out, you get the error "Could not complete the Refine Edge command because of a program error.”.
I’m sure there’s a better place I could have posted this and all that, but there you have it.
Oh, and the solution is to just change the “Output to” to something not greyed out.

Without system information and details on what exactly you are trying to do like what channel/ mask/ slection you are trying to refine in what specific image nobody can really say anything. Such errors are always specific. It would be best if you provided a screenshot of the selection in the image.

  • Could not complete the define custom shape command because of program error

I am using the pen tool to draw a shape and then select it to create a custom shape. I use path: edit - define custom shape = "could not complete the define custom shape command because of program error"
The error message appears once I click the define button.

Also, I solved this another way, seems to happen to me often. I click on the path panel, near layers panel and clicked on 'load path as a selection' (3rd icon on bottom from left), then click 'make work path from selection' (4th icon on bottom from left). Then you will see that the whole work area is part of the selection, including your desired shape/path. In order to change this, just select 'path selection' tool and highlight each corner and delete each point from each corner, then you are left with the desired selection to create a shape. I am self taught and this seem unorthodox, but it works.
