Could not complete the export command because the file could not be found

When I try to save for web, Photoshop pops up a dialog box that says "could not complete the export command because the file could not be found".
What is the solution for this?

Please provide more information (Photoshop version, OS, target volume, …).
Does the file’s or one of the folders’ name contain problematic letters (slash etc.)?

Are Photoshop and OS fully updated and have you performed the usual trouble-shooting routines (trashing prefs by keeping command-alt-shift/ctrl-alt-shift pressed while starting Photoshop after making sure all customized presets like Actions, Patterns, Brushes etc. have been saved and making a note of the Preferences you’ve changed, 3rd party plug-ins deactivation, system maintenance, cleaning caches, font validation, etc.)?

  • Could not complete the export command because of an application error

Every once in awhile I get the error, "Could not complete the export command because of an application error" when using the Save for Web option. It's really confusing because the error is not consistent. I don't get it all the time. In fact, 99% of the time I can save with no problems. When I quit Photoshop and reopen my files they seem to save just fine. Does anyone know why this happens, and how to prevent it from happening in the future?
    Here are my specs:
    Macintosh: iMac
    OS: 10.6.8
    Photoshop: CS3 (v10.0.1)
    Any help is greatly appreciated!

No idea about the specific issue, but I like to pass on some general advice I have received myself here over time:
    Boilerplate-text:
Are Photoshop and OS fully updated?
As with all unexplainable Photoshop-problems you might try trashing the prefs (after making sure all customized presets like Actions, Patterns, Brushes etc. have been saved and making a note of the Preferences you’ve changed) by pressing command-alt-shift on starting the program or starting from a new user-account.
System Maintenance (repairing permissions, purging PRAM, running cron-scripts, cleaning caches, etc.) might also be beneficial, Onyx has been recommended for such tasks.
    http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/system_disk_utilities/onyx.html
Weeding out bad fonts never seems to be a bad idea, either. (Validate your fonts in Font Book and remove the bad ones.)
If 3rd party plug-ins are installed try disabling them to verify if one of those may be responsible for the problem.

  • How do I resolve: "Could not complete the Crop command because the file is not compatible with this version of Photoshop" error message?

Photoshop document created in current version of PSCC2014, now will not crop, resize, etc without throwing compatibility error.
"Could not complete the Crop command because the file is not compatible with this version of Photoshop."
How do I resolve without recreating the file?

    Ooops.  Hit save reply prematurely.
You may be able to open the flattened composite or the embedded JPEG preview of your file in Adobe Illustrator, GraphicConverter (Mac only) or some such application, but your layers will be gone.
The problem of working across a network is that it's not supported by Adobe:
This is the boilerplate text often used in connection to saving to a network (please NOTE the part where it explains that normally, it does work, but that it is impossible to troubleshoot someone else's network remotely, and that's why it's not supported by Adobe):
If you are opening files over a network or saving them to a network server, please cease and desist immediately in the event you are currently experiencing problems with one or more files. Working across a network is not supported.
    See:
    http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/406/kb406793.html
Copy the CLOSED file from your server to your local hard disk, work on it, save it again to your local hard disk, close it, and copy the closed file back to the server.
Of course, the fact that Adobe does not support working across a network does not necessarily mean it won't work.   It should.
Adobe's position is that there are too many variables in a network environment for them to guarantee that everything will work correctly in every network, especially given the fact that if something does not work properly, it's probably the network's fault, and Adobe has no way of troubleshooting your network.
If you can't work locally, you are on your own, and if something happens, you're on your own. If you must work from a server, make sure your network administrator is a competent professional.
When problems arise, a lot of valuable work can be lost.

  • Could not complete the paste command because the icc profile is invalid

    Hi. In PS CS4 & AI CS4.
I get the following error when I try to copy & paste a logo from Illustrator into Photoshop:
could not complete the paste command because the icc profile is invalid
I don't understand because the color settings are sychronized. I do this all the time. I have not received this error before.
    Thanks.

I received the file from my client. However, last week I had no trouble pasting the same file into a PSD file, as a smart object.
The color file is a label mechanical, which I place into a PSD file of the product. These are used for print ads and web graphics. The color is very critical and has worked really well for the last 4 years.
I have used the default color settings in Creative Suite and its been working fine. They are in synch and, I have no idea how to re-assign the color profile. I’m a graphic Designer, color correction is not something I would do normally.

  • "Could not complete the custom command because the ICC profile is invalid"

I got the above message when I attempted to soft-proof an image in Photoshop CC on Windows 7 64-bit.
I had downloaded the ICC profile from drycreekphoto.com, specifically:
    http://www.drycreekphoto.com/icc/Profiles/IccFiles/Arizona/Costco-AZ-Tucson-NW-Lus.icc
and installed it by right-clicking on the downloaded file and selecting "Install profile"
Windows installed the profile in the following directory:
    C:\Windows\System32\spool\drivers\color
Then in Photoshop CC, I did
View -> Proof setup -> Custom
But when I selected the above profile from the dropdown list, I got error message
"Could not complete the custom command because the ICC profile is invalid"
Does this mean that the profile is really invalid, or am I doing something wrong?
FYI I am new to color management.  This was my first attempt to soft proof an image.

I can't quite figure out how it got that way - it has part of an ICC profile structure, but quite a bit wrong.  Even debugging tools can't read it as an ICC profile.
It's probably the one file - let drycreek/costco know so they can replace it.

  • Could not complete the Move command because the result would be too big

trying to move a picture and I get "could not complete the Move command because the result would be too big".  It is the only layer.

    This is for version 13.1
I am getting this error as well.  I am trying to combine an ~19,000x3600pixel photo with an ~10,000x3600 pixel photo.  I created a blank file 30,000x4000pixel to put the 2 photos together.  I paste the larger photo into the blank file and position it to the vert center and horiz left of the blank file.  I then paste the smaller picture into the new file.  It goes in at the center in its own layer as expected.  As soon as I try to move it left or right I get the above error message. I can move it ALL the way left and it will stay.
Also if I just create the blank file and paste the larger file in it and move to the right or left by just a little (say with the cursor controls or mouse but move slightly) I get the error.  If I move all the way left it stays. If I move all the way right it gives an error BUT if I select undo move and redo move it goes to the right and stays.  I tried that with the small file but could not get it to stay right.
    all 3 are 72px/in

  • "The movie could not be sent to QT, because a file couldn't be found"

When I try to export a 2 1/2 min. iMovie video I made today in pretty much any format, I get the following:
"The movie could not be sent to QuickTime, because a file couldn't be found.
Please make sure that your project disk has write permission, and that you ahve enough disk space. This error can also be caused by some third-party iMovie HD plugins" then tells me what to do if I have said plug-ins. I have no plugins for iMovie.
The flash drive I'm attempting to save to has almost 80mb of available space. Also, something /does/ get saved on my drive, but the (Windows) computer I try to transfer it to won't recognize it and my MacBook's QuickTime refuses to play it.
    What is going on?

    Welcome to iMovie Discussions.
iMovie - and other Mac programs - prefer (..or need!..) to have any discs, or other devices on which you're saving movie files, to be formatted as 'Mac OS Extended'.
That's different from the (generally) FAT32 format which Windows PCs use. And although Macs can read Windows-formatted discs - so your MacBook can read what's on your Windows-formatted flash disc - Windows machines generally cannot read Mac-formatted discs, so, er, you'd have a problem or two if you want to use any Mac-formatted device with a Windows machine!
Your flash drive - and anything else on which you've saved your 2.5 minute iMovie video - would need to be formatted as 'Mac OS Extended' if you want to use it for iMovie editing ..but you should be able to store a 'self-contained' QuickTime movie on it perfectly well in its PC-formatted state, and that movie should play in Windows when you plug it into a Windows machine if you have the latest Windows version of QuickTime on the Windows PC.
So maybe you exported your iMovie to QuickTime, onto the flash disc, but not as a self-contained movie. If it IS self-contained, then the complete movie would be there, and it's pretty much guaranteed to play. But if you didn't tick the 'self-contained' check-box, then all that gets saved is a very small file (called a "reference file") with a set of "pointers" to what's in the original iMovie project. In other words, you've saved only the details of how to play the movie, without actually saving the actual video file(s), which remain on your MacBook, instead of being on the flash disc.

  • Movie could not be sent to QuickTime because a file couldn't be found

    Greetings all,
I have recently been using QT successfully but suddenly I am not able to convert iMovies to .mov with Share. The error message is detailed in the Subject. It seems a file cannot be found. This goes for all old iMovie files and any new files I tested.
Should I maybe reinstall iMovie? Or is it related to QT? I do not have third party plug-ins. Memory is not a problem. I did make a temporary change in the MIME types (unchecked Streaming).
Thanks for any help you can give.

Thanks for the replies Karsten and Kennedy.
IM did not give any details but suggested it might be due to low disk space or third party plugins. What surprises me is that all my IM files were working before. I made three QT web movies in the last days. This makes me suspect IM and suggests maybe reinstalling would help.
Kennedy suggested that the QT was saved as a reference. In fact, no QT file was made because IM could not send it to QT.
Don't know what to do. But it could be worse. I am generally very happy to have a Sony handy cam and the Mac IM capability, even with problems now and then.

  • Why this: "Could not complete the Export command because there is not enough memory (RAM)."

Same RAM (max recommended) as before so why do I get this message when I try to optimize an image for web? I've restarted the program and the computer.

How much RAM does your system have?  Have you successfully been able to optimize an image for web with your current RAM settings?  You could try going to Photoshop > Preferences > Performance and allocating more RAM to Photoshop:

  • ?? "The movie could not be sent to Quicktime because a file couldn't be..."

trying to export a movie in iMovie HD - and that's what it says:
"The movie could not be sent to Quicktime because a file couldn't be found" then it says to rename the folder called "iMovie" in the library to "iMovie0", restart and press on.
then .... "Visit http://support.apple.com/ for more information on this issue."
    ok. where on support?
anyone have any ideas on this? I have installed iLife08 - is this the issue?
    tia.

Thanks for the reply. I hadn't thought about that - but it IS an external and it is not OSX extended. I exported to my internal drive and all worked well. wonderful! problem solved - I'd never noticed that before, and I was sure I'd exported to that drive before. so, I tried again - presto it worked - I exported it to the external. so... the error message that came the first time went away.
    .... strange
    but ... solved?
    thanks again,

  • Could not complete the Crop command because of a program error - Win 7

So I use PS CC everyday for cropping out images from design mockups for websites.
Yesterday (1 April 2014) I got a new comp from the designer with some updated images. So I opend the comp, and began to setup the cropped area with my guides. I then grabbed the marquee tool and made my selection, clicked Image->Crop, and then I get an error message.
"Could not complete the Crop command because of a program error."
    Well that is helpful.
So now its "Help me Google, you're my only hope.", after about an hour or so of searching this error I find that it mostly happens to Mac users. I am using Windows 7. I also find that people are trying to get information form a PSErrorLog.txt file that is suppsoed to be located in the "Preferences Folder"... again I am on Windows 7.
So more searching to find the Windows eqivelant of this file's location: C:\Users\{USERNAME}\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CC\Adobe Photoshop CC Settings
Only to find there is no PSErrorLog.txt file. I do have a sniffer-out.txt file and a bunch of .psp files, a SynchFiles folder and 2 Workspaces folders (one Modified).
So I say to myself, "Well, I have cloud and a fast connection, won't take long to reinstall." So I delete PS ( I am also runnig DW, FL, Br, and AI ), and PS only. I do not run the cleaner tool as it only wants to delete a PS driver, or EVERYTHING!, which I do not want to do, I just want to delete PS. So I delete PS and check for anything left behind (why is there always stuff left behind? Apparently DELETE really means "Only delete some parts of the app that are required to make it work, and leave the rest behind.", or something.). Anyway, I then reinstall, go to crop again, and get the same error.
So here I am, "Help me Adobe Forums, you're my only hope."

    Mylenium,
You are correct. But none of that information, or those parameters, have ever had any effect on cropping anything in PS before. I crop vector smart objects brought in from AI all the time. In this case, yes the layers I am trying to crop are vector smart objects, which I rasterized and merged, then resaved the document and still get the same issue.
But, going off of your suggestion, I did flatten the image completely and I am now able to crop it without error. I suspect that there is something else in the layers that maybe causing this issue, as you have mentioned.
Thank you for your input, while you may not have known it, you gave me at least somewhere to start to try and figure out what is happening.
