Could not find the linked file

I open a PDF to edit it in Adobe Illustrator and get several messages like this:
Could not find the linked file "whatever.gif". Choose Repair to locate the missing
file, Replace to select another file, or Ignore to leave the link unchanged.
When I open that same PDF up in Adobe Acrobat Pro, however, all images display - even the ones that Adobe Illustrator seems to be trying to "link" to.
If Adobe Acrobat Pro doesn't require the images be stored locally on the hard drive, why does Adobe Illustrator require it?

PrepressPro1 wrote:
It would seem Illustrator compatability was not checked when the PDF was saved.
Actually it seems it was checked, and Illustrator is opening the AI portion of the file, which links to an external file. The PDF portion can only use embedded images, so that cannot be what Illustrator is reading.
The PDF was saved from Illustrator with "Include Illustrator Editing Capability" turned on. This option saves the native AI file within the PDF so it can be edited with Illustrator. The drawback is that linked images need to be supplied as well, and in this case they were not. Acrobat ignores the AI portion of he file and only reads the PDF data, which contains an embedded copy of the image, which has probably been heavily modified from the original for embedding in the PDF. Expect the image to have some or all on these modifications: JPEG compression, downsampling, flattening, conversion from RGB to CMYK or from CMYK to RGB, cropping.
Your best option is to ask the original file's supplier to send you the missing image. Illustrator's Links panel will tell you the file name. If that's not an option, open the PDF with Photoshop and select Images instead of Pages to open. Select the image from the thumbnails shown, open it, then save. Switch back to Illustrator and link to that image.

  • Facebook Like Button - Could not find the linked file ....

    Hi All,
    Hope everyone is ok!
    I have a question:
I have downloaded the Facebook Like Button (https://www.facebookbrand.com/), in AI format, and, when I open it in Illustrator CS6 *trial version*, I get: "Could not find the linked file "likeicon_7-17a.ai". Choose Replace to select another file, or Ignore, to leave the link unchanged".
If I click "Ignore", the file is displayed, without the "thumbs-up" icon.
    Why does it do this?
The only "ai" file in the archive is the entire logo. There is no "likeicon_7-17a.ai".
Here is the archive, if someone can tell me what is going, i would be happy!

    the file is constructed poorly.
You could download the thumbsup.ai file and then simply copy/paste it to the like button file.

  • EA Could Not Find The .html File Associated With...

After naming folder names, I now get the "EA could not find the .html file associated with..." message when I open the .edge file. When I open the .an file, I have all elements and the timeline are gone! How can I restore it? Surely, it is just a question of changing a path, or? Please help. Thanks!

From the File > Open menu, browse to the that same folder (the newly renamed one), and select the .html file.

  • When attempting a sync with my iPod Touch gen 5 I get this error "The iPod "****" could not be synced because the sync session failed to start."  I could not find the backup file to delete per researched support recommendation.  I have synced this iPod.

"....could not be synced because the sync session failed to start."  I have synced this iPod with this MacBook Air about 6 weeks ago.  Now it won't sync.  A possible solution is to delete the backup file located in Mac:~/Library/Application Support/MobileSync/Backup/  However, I don't have a "MobileSync" folder in my Application Support folder.  Please help.

  • Edge Animate could not find the associated html file

    Hey everybody,
I made several projects using Edge Animate 1.0, all of them worked perfectly. But now I need to make some changes, and several of them are displaying an error saying that could not find the html file associated with the project, even though the file is right at the same folder. I opened the .an file in a text editor and checked that the HTMLFileName attribute is pointing to the correct file. I'm attaching a print screen of the error.
If anyone has any idea of what is causing it, and how to solve it, it would be greatly appreciated, as I had no luck in anything I tried to do, and need to edit these files as soon as possible.
    Thanks in advance!

Have somebody found a solution for this?
I have the same problem with a little added twist.
The project is located on Creative Cloud.
.an file opens form one computer and gives this error message while being opened from another.
This question is being asked by the community for a while with no solution.
Could somebody from Adobe read this and post the solution?
    Thanks

  • "Could not find the application that created this file" error when trying to combine files

I am working with a user that is trying to combine a pdf & word doc (docx).  When they try to combine the files she gets the error:  "Could not find the application that created this file" & "Please select a file created by an application that resides on your computer".  The computer is running windows XP, with office 2010 SP1, & Adobe Acrobat Pro X.
Per previous suggestions, I have already checked to see if Adobe PDFMaker is enabled as a Word plugin, and it is.
Recentley the user was running Acrobat 6, and this error did not occur.  It is only after upgrading to Acrobat X that this is happening.  Any help with this issue would be appreciated.

This can also be caused if the files are in a folder deep in the file system. For example C:/xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx/yyyyyyyyyyyyyyy/zzzzzzz/aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa/bbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbb /cccccccccccccccccccc/dddddddddddddddd/eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee/ffffffff/ggggggg/hhhhhhhhhhhhh hhhhhhhhhh/myPDF.pdf
At some point Adobe PDFMaker cannot handle the path length (also, Windows can't handle the path length either eventually)
Solution: move the files to a shorther path (perhaps the desktop) and try from there.
I am filing a bug report with Adobe. A descriptive exception message should be thrown instead of "could not file the app.."

  • Execute jar file: "could not find the main class" program will terminate

    Hey,
I am new to Java. I have started to make a small java program which supposed to help me at my studies to lean the Dominic Memory System. I have used the latest version of Netbeans 5.5.1 to build my program in. I have two problems which I cannot figure out how to solve, please help me.
The first problem is that the java script I have made works when I compile it in Netbeans, but when I create a Jar file it does not work. I receive a pop up message in windows ?could not find the main class program will terminate? when I execute the jar file.
The second problem I have is that I need to compare the strings generated by the "numbers" and "TIP" and if the numbers is not identical the numbers in the ?Center? JPanel should be highlighted as red.
If anyone would like to clean up the code I would be pleased. I have copied quite a lot from anyone because of my one lack of knowledge.

  • Executable JAR file: Could not find the main class.

    Hello,
I have a problem with making an executable JAR file.
I have written a JAVA program that consists of five different classes of which User.java is the main class and I have saved a text document with Main-Class: User and a blank line after that.
    If I try:
    jar cmf MainClass.txt User.jar User.class Beheerder.class Operator.class Manager.class MaakVisueelSchema.class
it makes a executable jar file which actually works! :)
But when the Operator class trys to open the MaakVisueelSchema class the screen stays blank.
I can run MaakVisueelSchema with java MaakVisueelSchema.
So I tried to make an executable JAR that consists only of MaakVisueelSchema, the same way as I did for User:
    Main-Class: MaakVisueelSchema
    jar cmf MainClass.txt MaakVisueelSchema.jar MaakVisueelSchema.class
Then I get the error message:
Could not find the main class. Program will exit.
from the Java Virtual Machine Launcher.
The big difference between MaakVisueelSchema and the other classes is that MaakVisueelSchema contains a PaintComponent method and an ComponentListener. Is it possible that one of those creates the error?
Can anyone help me with this problem?
    Thanks in advance!
    Bye!

    Yes,
    I tried:
    jar xvf MaakVisueelSchema.jar
    and it returns:
    META-INF/
    META-INF/MANIFEST.MF
MaakVisueelSchema.classN/G. You need to manually create a manifest file in a text editor, have it point to your main class, and enter it in your jar command as an argument.

  • Trouble creating a pdf converting Word doc ..."Could not find the application that created the file"

    Hello,
I am working with Acrobat Pro 8 and am trying to create a pdf by converting a word doc. When I try that, I keep getting an error message, " Could not find the application that created this file...please select a file created by an application that resides on your computer." I can always convert a word into pdf first and then insert it into the pdf project that I am working on, however I have multiple files and I really would like to bypass that long step.
I found another thread in this forum which talks about a simillar issue (http://forums.adobe.com/thread/429585).I tried the solution suggested there by Bill@vt regarding the print menu. I am not really sure if t have distiller installed, so I tried opening it in acrobat, but it failed. During the process, I got the follwing message "Check the Status column for a list of files that could not be printed".I do not have any clue how to check for AcroTray running in the background.
I would really appreciate any help.
    Thanks!

If Distiller failed to open, it sounds like you need to do a repair of your Acrobat installation. Have not heard that one before!

  • After Saving File get Message "Could not find the included template"

I have a strange issue going on and it's becoming very, very annoying.  When I edit a file on our web server (it's a virtual machine running Windows Server 2008) and then try to view it in my browser, I get the error message "Could not find the included template".  If I refresh the page (sometimes upwards of 40 times) my page with whatever changes I made will finally load.  I checked with our system administrator and he's not aware of what could be causing this.
It happens on whatever the most recent file I was working on.  If it's a ColdFusion file, I get the "Could not find the included template" error.  If it's a change to my stylesheet, the styles will not load.  Again, in both instances it takes hitting F5 upwards of 40 times until the page displays correctly.
Has anybody else ever encountered such an issue?  It's happening on two separate virtual servers (both Win 2008), one has CF9 installed and the other CF10.  It get's frustrating having to referesh before the page or stylesheet get picked up.  Any help or suggestions are appreciated!
    Thanks.

That means that the file 'template.cfm' is not where
    ColdFusion needs it
to be so that it can include it. Which is generally in the
    same folder
    at page.cfm with that syntax.

  • The manifest file "could not find the main class."

The main class file is inside a folder in the created Jar file, but is not in a package. But when I double-click the Jar file, it says it could not find the main class. I am using Windows. I have tried each of the following lines in the manifest, but none are working:
    Main-Class: Installer
    Main-Class: setupFiles/programFile/Installer
    Main-Class: setupFiles\programFile\Installer
Main-Class: setupFiles.programFile.InstallerThe main class is inside the setupFiles/programFile directory. Please Help!
    Thanks in advance,
    ~ Tom

    Hi Tom,
The main class file is inside a folder in the created
Jar file, but is not in a package. This is the problem. A JAR file is not an arbitrary ZIP file, where you can arrange directories as you like. The structure of a JAR file always has to follow the package structure. So your Installer class must be on the top level and not in directory setupFiles/programFile.
You might add non-class files in other directores and can access them as resources, but you have to put the class files into their "natural" directories.

  • JAR  file:      could not find the main class.

I have been working with Java satisfactorily for about two years.
    Installed a bigger hard disk.
    Installed Windows XP.
    Downloaded java.
    Downloaded java jdk 1.6.0_07
    Downloaded java3d 1.5.2
    Downloaded Eclipse Ganymede.
A new project, a new class with an existing and working java file. It did function in eclipse.
    Generated a jar file with:
Export \ JAR FILE \ select files and the destination for the Jar file .....
... next...next filled the field Main Class
This generates the jar files, which have worked before.
And now the error: could not find the main class.
    Thand you for your help.

Executing a jar file means it will not read from the CLASSPATH environment variable. I learnt this the hard way a few weeks ago and I had to resort to different measures to work around it.
Your problem does sound weird, but check that the last line in your manifest file is a new line. If it's not, the manifest is not read and parsed correctly.
To test, do this: remove everything from the manifest that you don't need, except the Manifest-Version and Main-Class attributes. Make sure the last line is a new line, and see if it works.
    Cheers

    Hi !
If you've got the latest version of flash, the message should
    says
something like "could not find the file flash8b.ocx" instead
    of
"flash.ocx" (who is, it seems, flash 7.0).
I suspect, once again, that registry rights are broken.
