Could not open wrong kind of document

Hi
This is not really a problem for me but curious to know why and how to eliminate
New pc--- New "successful" installation of cs6 extended -- No other programs etc in use  -- First (and further)  opening of cs6 displays "could not open your request because it is the wrong kind of document"-- Nothing requested --click ok ( or remove display ) and can continue without any problems  Why and how do i find this document since details are not  not displayed
thanks
bri

Hi Mylenium
Sorry about that
The pc is new and  custom built for photo editing etc .   CS6 extended was indicated as installed" successfully". No other programs were in use and when I opened cs6  the screen  displayed " cannot open your request because it is the wrong kind of document ".   Only by clicking OK to this or removing this display was I able to continue using cs6 without any problems.  If I close down cs6 and then re-open the same ocurrs . Until I remove the display I am unable, to use the browser, say,  to open a file.  However,  assuming cs6 has not been opened and I select a file jpg/ tiff etc from a picture folder and then  " send this file to cs6 "( via a shortcut)  cs6 opens without the previously detailed display  So as I mentioned it is not a major problem for me but I am curious to know why this happens and how such a document, which has not been rquested , might be located and removed
Hope I have explained better
Thanks

  • NEF "Could not complete your request because it is the wrong kind of document"

I have just installed Lightroom 12.1 with all current updates on W7 64bit and now cannot open the Nikon D5200 raw (NEF) files. I get the message: "Could not complete your request because it is the wrong kind of document" although they open successfully in Camera RAW on Vista 64bit PC with the same version of Elements. In order to work with them, I have had to convert to DNG and open in Photoshop CS5, which doesn't support D5200 RAW (NEF version).
This is causing me a serious problem because I need to migrate all of my work to the new W7 system.

That was the exact wording of the message, and I tried many times with many NEF files; but I just went back to the PC after entering the Forum question and everything works fine. The NEF files open from both my D5000 and the D5200. The pc wasn’t re-booted in the mean time, so I really don’t understand why it works now and didn’t 15 min’s ago!
I’m sorry to have disturbed you – maybe I should just have gone to lunch and tried again later. – I am a computer specialist/consultant, by the way, so I do know what I’m talking about.

When I try to open a file in photoshop CS, Elements or Lightroom I get the message "Could not complete request because it is not the right kind of document"  This just started happening today. The only thing I have done differently is change my file handling to raw + jpeg on my Nikon 7100.

I downloaded camera raw 8.7 and I am now able to open my raw and jpeg files.   Thanks

  • When openong photoshop cs4- could not complete your request because wrong kind of document

    Hi
I've just installed the free trial of photoshop cs4.. with much difficulty! Firstly it was saying please install adobe file exe? which I don't have a clue how to do. But I managed to install photoshop and thought I was getting somewhere, but now it keeps popping up with couldn't complete your request because it's the wrong kind of document? It allows me to go into photoshop but I can't seem to do anything? Can anyone help?
I'm a novice with computers so please bear this in mind when you respond. Many thanks

I found that knowledge-base article and did every step in it...
I even went beyond... I deactivated CS4, completely uninstalled using AppZapper and then manually went through and tossed every adobe pref file in both users and in system.
I then reinstalled CS4 from scratch, reactivated, and exact same issue. It happens when running in both the 32, and 64 bit kernel as well.
It's so odd too... it runs fine for around 40 seconds. I can open a doc, add type, but then that annoying error pop-up comes and it gets stuck in a loop. I can only click on 'OK', which just makes the error window open again. And again, again, etc... you can't escape. The only way to quit is to 'force quit'.

  • Unable to open PNG files "not the right kind of document"

I just noticed this error today when I tried to open several PNG files, some of which I created with Photoshop: "Could not complete your request because it is not the right kind of document".
I'm running Photoshop 9.0.2 on Windows XP Pro. Opening other file types (gif, jpg) works fine. I also noticed that in the save as dialog box that PNG is not a listed file type.

PNG certainly is listed as a file type. I have saved many of them using Save As, many quite recently, using PSCS3; and I just did a couple in PSCS2. Here's the Save As box in PSCS2 with an 8-bit flattened image being saved as PNG:
    <br />
    <a href="http://www.pixentral.com/show.php?picture=1PSNAANh2tPbX1MMDLjmQLbHFqm91" /></a>
    <img alt="Picture hosted by Pixentral" src="http://www.pixentral.com/hosted/1PSNAANh2tPbX1MMDLjmQLbHFqm91_thumb.png" border="0" />
<br />And here's the Save As box in CS2 with a 16-bit layered image being saved as PNG:
    <br />
    <a href="http://www.pixentral.com/show.php?picture=145dp6qArIbj9k8JG23J1jGojM4imR1" /></a>
    <img alt="Picture hosted by Pixentral" src="http://www.pixentral.com/hosted/145dp6qArIbj9k8JG23J1jGojM4imR1_thumb.png" border="0" />
    <br />
<br />Both PNG images opened properly. The second one opened as 16-bit, flattened (layers aren't preserved in PNG).
    <br />
<br />And both of the above images were Saved As PNG from PSCS2, also.

  • Trying to import video"Could not complete your request because it is not the right kind of document"

When I try to import a video into Photoshop CS6 I get the error: "Could not complete your request because it is not the right kind of document".
I have tried multiple formats with no luck.
I was able to improt it into Photoshop CS5 by dragging and dropping.
Im using Photoshop CS 6 64bit, have tried 32bit with no luck
If I try to drag and drop it, I get this error: could not place the document. Because no parser or file format can open the file.
I have tried opening a .mov, and a .avi file. I thought it might be a codec thing but why can cs5 open it but not cs6?
I noticed other posts with the same issue but they did not get resolved.  Any help would be great.
    Thanks,
    Josh

    Vurgano, Powelly 100, and izzysanime,
    Has the issue been resloved?
If so, how was it resolved?
I see Yesughei and Powelly are on Win7.
Izzysanime, which Win OS are you using?
Vurgano, what platform/OS are you using?
We are still investigating this issue and would appreciate your assistance.
To rule out problems with the files you have, could you please verify the Photoshop CS5 sample file "CheeziPuffs.mov" will also not work? (program files\adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS5\samples)
Also would you please verify the following:
Virus/security/parental control software hasn't trapped parts of Photoshop, Bridge, Premiere, Lightroom, or any Adobe app using DynamicLinkMediaServer. (Make sure the Adobe apps are added as exceptions if needed.)
Ensure you have the latest version of QuickTime
Close all Adobe applications - wait more than 30 seconds, then launch Photoshop and try to open the file.
    - If unsuccessful, view Task Manager/Processes to verify necessary processes started up when importing video (dynamiclinkmanager.exe, dynamiclinkmediaserver.exe and Adobe QT32 Server.exe)
    - If unsuccessful, please capture the full error message text.
      4. Close all Adobe apps, wait 30 seconds - launch Bridge and try to open the file.
If everyone is on Win 7, it makes me wonder about permissions...
    Thanks,

  • Could not complete your request because it is not the right kind of document.

This problem has been re-occuring for a day now, and I honestly have no clue why, I followed the directions. I updated my camera raw plugin, and photoshop to the lastest version. I am trying to open an avi file but it won't open it. About 4 seconds long. Usually I could but yesterday when I tried opening it, it says "Could not complete your request because it is not the right kind of document." Any suggestions because I'm trying to make gifs but I can't because photoshop won't let me open the avi. file.

Thanks, but I have a 64-bit pc, I do have photoshop cs5 64 and 32 bit but it's only avaiblable for 32 bit, i'll use it for now but if anyone has a solution for 64 bit photoshop it'd be great.

  • ***error could not complete because it is not the right kind of document please help!!!***

  • "Could not complete your request because it is not the right kind of document" Why not?

When I attempt to open a Canon .CR2 image in CS3, I get the following error: "Could not complete your request because it is not the right kind of document" What is the source for this problem?

    What camera do you have?
Before you resign yourself to using the free DNG converter, which adds a step to the process each time you want to open raw files, you might want to double check to see if you have installed the latest Camera Raw update, and whether that version actually handles your camera.
Check your version by choosing Help - About Plug-in... - Camera Raw in Photoshop.  4.6 is the latest for Photoshop CS3.
Check the list of supported cameras in the ReadMe file for Camera Raw 4.6 (the latest version that will install with Photoshop CS3) here:
    http://www.adobe.com/special/photoshop/camera_raw/Camera_Raw_4.6_ReadMe.pdf
At the root of all this is that every different camera makes a slightly different format .cr2 file, even though they're all named .cr2.  If your camera was designed/released after the last update of Camera Raw for CS3 was made (i.e., when PS CS4 was first released), then it will not be supported by that version of Camera Raw.  Adobe stops adding new camera support to each version of Photoshop when the next major release goes out.  If you find yourself in this situation, then the DNG converter, as Silkrooster has said, is what you'll want to use.

  • Index.log - could not open document

I get error when indexing a folder.
The document with the problem is named: document.pdf
Other documents in this folder works fine.
    The  index.log tells:
Could not open document: W:\Doc\document.pdf-Press Quality.joboptions
This file is skipped in the created index.
    What is the problem?
I tried to regenerate the pdf - still the same problem.
Is the index process looking for the joboption file when doing the indexing job?
It's a kind of weared as I use this Joboption in other documents without problem.
    I use software:
    Frame Maker 10.
    Adobe Acrobat X Pro.
    Windows 7 Enterprise 64 bit.

    Hi Bill!
    Thanks.
    My version was 10.0.x
I now updated to 10.1.13. This did not help.
How I get there in the first place?
I work at a company that develops and manufactures machines and systems.
My job is to produce instruction books, manage and distribute all documentation (manuals, diagrams etc.) to our customers.
This is done by gathering all pdf-documents (wiring diagrams manuals etc.) in a doc-folder (documents are contained in sub folders), linking these documents in a master-page (main menu). (Documents in the folders includes pdf documents from other suppliers.)
When all this is done, I create an index for all documents in the  doc-folder. Then connecting this index to the master page.
This makes the entire documentation set searchable from the master page.
    Normally, this works just fine.
But not for this this document.
I just do not understand what the error actually means.
Could not open document: W:\Doc\document.pdf-Press Quality.joboptions
This "document.pdf" is an instruction manual that can be opened as any other pdf file.
More ideas are very much appreciated.

  • NEF file doesn't open "because it is not the right kind of document"?

    Hello-
I just installed photoshop on a new computer and am trying to open NEF files.  It gives me an error message that says "Could not complete your request because it is not the right kind of document".  I have never had this error message when opening NEF files on other computers.  Any idea what I need to do?
    Thanks!

It would be useful to know what version of Photoshop you are using and what version of Camera Raw you have installed...odds are you need to update your ACR plug-in (or use the most recent version og DNG Converter).

  • PNG: Could not complete your request...not the right kind of document

Suddenly, I am unable to open any PNG files or even "Save as" png with Photoshop.  I can't open test tiff files and save as png through "save for web."
But when I try to open those test files, I get this error message "Could not complete your request because it is not the right kind of document."
I was able to open them yesterday.
I thought my plugin might be corrupt, so I downloaded and added a new one. Tried to drop it in File Formats. No work. Then into Adobe Photoshop Only > File Formats folders. Also didn't work.
Maybe I need to change preferences?
Any suggestions or pointers to documentation for a fix? I need to use PNG.
I hope to upgrade to CS4 this summer, but right now, I'm still using CS.

My OS is 10.4.11. on 2 GHz Intel iMac.
I reread my orignial post and noticed a typo. I can save png's with PS "save for the web," but can't open those just-saved png files.
I did lots of things before I noticed that the png wasn't working. Don't know which may have caused a problem. Likely things? Well, I added a plugin for Ico. format. I deleted it because I thought it might have caused the conflict.
Assuming that was the problem, what can I do to restore the png file format?
I don't have disk warrior. I did run the maintenance utility yesterday. It runs crons, clears caches, deletes cookies, that kind of stuff.
I've never had a problem with it disabling plugins or causing any problems. Haven't run disk utility for a few weeks. Would that help?
I didn't download the replace png plugin from Adobe, but the original wasn't working anyway. I looked for a backup on the exernal drive, didn't find one, and downloaded another.
Next, I did a Photoshop reinstall thinking that might fix the problem, but it didn't.  Which plugin folder should the png plugin be place in. I've never been sure why there are two format folders;  the folder in plugins, and the folder in Photoshop only.

  • When i try to open a document in Adobe Reader, I get a "could not open" msg?  Why?

When I try to open a document in Adobe, I get an error messsage:  "Adobe Reader could not open 'whatever file it is' because it is either not a supported file type or because the file has been damaged (for example, it was sent as an email attachment and wasn't correctly decoded)."  This only happens on some documents, but frequently.  Can anyone help?

Are these Word documents email attachments that you are saving using right-click and Save Link As? It's possible that your email website has changed and instead you need to click the image or use the site's button.

  • Unable to open documents in Office (Word and Excel) - 3 authentication prompts followed by 'Could not open ...'

I am getting multiple authentication prompts when I try to open or create a new .docx or .xslx document from SharePoint 2010.
I tried this on different machines and on different browsers (IE and Firefox) and see the same behavior. I am the site collection administrator. I see the same behavior on other sites also. Other users are also seeing the same behavior.
If I download the document, I can open it without any issues.
The Web Application IIS authentication settings is NTLM and Client Integration is enabled.

    Hi shankze,
According to your description, my understanding is that you could not open the documents because of the authentications.
Go to IIS, make sure that the Security TokenServiceApplication pool is started.
Please do as the followings, and compare the result:
Add your site to the Trusted Sites Internet Zone.
Go to Internet Options - Security - Highlight the Trusted Sites Check Mark - click on custom level - scroll to the bottom and in the user authentication section select "Automatic logon with current username and password."
Also, you can do via group policy in DC server.
More information, please refer to the link:

    I hope this helps.
