Could not save file after changes

Hi there,
There is a common server where all designers can access each others' file but, there is this work station that would not allow us to override the previous file, nor save a new name in that folder. Message says "Cannot save the document. It may be opened by other applications. Close applications and try again. You may also use saveas to save it into a new document." Tried but didn't work.
Strange thing is, no other application is opened with that file. I also noticed that at the bottom left corner, there is a "pencil being crossed" icon. I figured it's the "no privileges to access" icon. But the designer did not lock the file at all. Then, how is it possible to deny saving?
Anyway to get rid of the little icon? Only the designer who created the original file can access, no one else can.
Is that server problem or there is something that need to be set in the original designer workstation.

It really does sound like a server-side issue rather than workstation, and as such I'd think your system administrator needs to look at the problem and see what's going on with file ownership and access rights.
I run a W2K server in one network, with a number of Macs (and PCs) connected, and the only time I see any error of the sort you describe is if the file is already open on another system, or access rights are set to read only, not read/write.

The file is not open anywhere accept Photoshop.

I searched the forum but could not find anything even though i'm sure someone already asked it.

There is a problem with both Photoshop and InDesign, then we can blame wich ever it is.
1. I open a .psd file in Photoshop CS4 by double clicking it in Bridge
2. This image is placed on a page in a open InDesign document.
3. Doing some changes in Photoshop on the image.
4. Trying to save and get this error message (this topics subject)
5. Deleting the image from the page in ID doc, it is the only one in the document.
6. Can't still save file.
7. Closing ID completely and now I am able to save the file.
I tried turning of Live preflight in Indegisn but that didn't help.
So probably the fault is InDesign or the MacOS. I didn't have this problem with CS3. It is a stupid problem because this type of workflow is pretty common and one would expect it to be solved by now.

I’m exporting files out of Priemer Pro CS5 with the H.264 “vimeo HD settings” .mp4 files and the files look dull, low contrast and low color saturation, when played in QT10. From what I’ve read it’s a gamma problem with QT10. I also hear the files from FCP have the same problem, so it's not a Premiere Pro problem.
The fix is to open the file in QT Pro, adjust the blend in the video track and re-save, however I try to save the file I get an error that says “The movie contains an in correct time value”
Will QT Pro 7.6.6 allow me to save my file to .mp4 or only .mov files
I’m on a MacPro 12 Core with 14gb memory
OS 10.6.5
Any suggestions?

The "Save As..." option always saves a copy of the data to an MOV file container. Minor property changes will allow your to use the "Save" option which stores only the changed properties to the same file in its original file container. Unfortunately, major changes will automatically invoke the "Save As..." routines even though you selected the "Save" option. If you must place the content in an MP4 file container, you can use the "Save As..." option in QT Streamclip to re-save the "fixed" MOV file to an MP4 file container. However, note that extraneous track content may, if present, not be carried over to the MP4 container.

Error of "Could not save (file name) because write access was not granted. The users are pulling the files from a Mountain Lion server. They all have read\write access. If they try to save the file in the same directory they get that error but they can save it anywhere else on the sharepoint. If they save it in another directory then reopen it make a change and do a save as they can save it back to the original directory. Has anyone else come across this same issues

It is an enterprise solution. I just do not see why you cant save directly to the server. It seems to get weird errors. Some Adobe stuff saves fine on the server and some of it doesnt. It seems Adobe related. The permissions on the server are set correctly so it isnt a permission error

I have been using forms central and have been able to save as pdfs until about 2 weeks ago. I am on a Mac and others workign from same form not having issues.
Here is the error message:
"Acrobat.com could not save this PDF file. The file might be open in another application and cannot be overwritten."
I have turned off all programs, turned off computer, re-started everything and still no change.

Could not archieve file after processing error in Rwb of sender adapter

Till today afternoon it is running fine.
The rpocess here is we will keep the files in FTP site. and pi polls and places the files in NFS Mount server AL11(FILE/STAGING).
Now these file will be process from FILE/STAGING to FILE/PROCESS in al11 .
Then proxy get trigerred and sends the data to sap where workflow will be trigerred.
now the issues file is getting polled from ftp and placed in file/staging folder perfectly.
Then the file needs to be moved to file/process folder using file adapter. here the issue is coming

2. Check the path provided for process.
3. Ensure both the staging and the process paths are different.

Random Artifact and "Could not save (file name) because the file is already in use or left open."

Hi,
I've been working on a collage for school, and I 'merged all layers below into one layer', and photoshop left me a random artifact on all my masks. Also, the same file has been suffering the 'Could not save...' problem. I have taken older versions of the file, brought them back to where I had been, and then a similar artifact appears (from various actions). Once the artifact appears, I can undo the action but not the artifact, and the file is useless. It happen on a second file, but the artifact was different (a rectangular hole in the middle of the masks).
I have a MBP/4GB/MacOSX 10.6.4, everything is up to date.
If anyone has any suggestions, it would be really appreciated... I'm working for a deadline at school.

Hi Chris,
I have updated both the Adobe suite and the MacOSX. My school has CS5. The holes cut into the image in a geometric pattern (the rectangles) are the random artifact (cropped below).
Also, I understand 'Could not save...' means it could not save... Why it cannot save seems to be the issue. I believe you understand the circumstances of the 'Could not save...' issue, and it isn't simply that another program has it open.

I don't really know if it's Adobe, Apple, or Windows issue, and I don't think it really matters. It is a problem in Photoshop, which would make it an Adobe problem... and waiting for a fix doesn't seem to be a satisfactory answer.
I don't want to make this tread about politics, I want to fix my file, and I thought it might be another symptom to a bigger problem.

When I place a .psd-file in Indesign and option + click on it, the image opens in Photoshop. When I try to save the PSD-file, from time to time I get the message: "could not save the file because it is already in use or was left open". I can only save the PSD-file when I close the initial Indesign-document.
I've already posted the is question on the Photoshop-forum (http://forums.adobe.com/message/2216629#2216629) and they say it's an Indesign issue.
What can I do?

Are you having the problem when doing Edit Original from ID, or simply when opeing a lot of images in Photoshop? In the bad old days when drives were expensive I used to get not enough space errors in Photoshop all the time on large files (or lots of files open would be similar) when trying to save because the scratch disk was full. That's not the same problem as described in the original post though.

Thanks for the quick reply.I'm seeing this error in Production environment.So i cannot try as you suggested.
It was working until yesterday .I checked with BASIS team aswell for the folder access , Everything is OK .
Is there any other way i can check to resolve this?

I have recently purchased a new desktop under WIN 7 as well as Adobe Creative Suite CS6.
My first internal hard disk is 2 TB, the second one installed is from my old PC, 250 GB.
I am getting this error when trying to save a file over an existing file using the “Save” command.
The message is wrong, because the file name IS valid.
This error is persistent.
This error does not occur when doing the same action on my second internal hard disk.
This error happens on files larger than about 1MB in weight.
What happens is that the original file over which I try to do the ”Save” command gets corrupted and lost.
If I don't use the “Save as” command to save my work under a different name, my work is lost.
The same problem occurs with both PS CS6 versions, 64 Bit and 32 Bit.
I am very disappointed and annoyed with this happening.
Any idea what is going on here?

I think I have resolved this.
I forgot to mention that I have Sugarsync over that file structure.
However, I do not know if Sugarsync has anything to do with the error.
I copied the whole folder structure under a newly created folder, and I am no longer getting the error.

In Photoshop Elements 10, when I try to save a photo, I get the error message: "Could not save file because there is not enough memory (RAM)." I have plenty of RAM and no other programs running. Why am I getting this message?

The problem with write permissions for the OneDrive folder only shows up in Lightroom 6's export dialogue, that's why it's to irritating. Lightroom 5.7.1 is not having that problem nor does the file explorer. The problem also exists on both of my machines. Its not ok.

Installing the update does require restarting Photoshop.
The majority of the file saving problems we've seen are with file servers.
Are you having trouble with a particular format, or just one document?

Adobe is to busy to resolve any problems/bugs in FW. FW is death (Adobe). May be, Adobe will develope some other tools like FW, but - you know - it takes time. A lot of time ... and then you get some new kinds of bugs :-)
