Could not update his iphone to os 5

My husband could not update his iphone to os 5 from his computer (due to itunes not being upgradeable) so he jumped on mine and upgraded, he later mentioned the warning about losing all content. He did back up on his computer, thinking he could go to his computer to get all his info and apps back after upgrading. UGH! So now I am wondering, can that backup that is on his old mac be transferred to my Mac book Pro, and fix the problem. If so can some kind soul direct me to easy instructions?

When I update my phone show me this letter: ITunes could not update this iPhone because of an unknown error occurrence (24)

I don't think that's an iTunes error code; sounds like a Windows one: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/310123
I would remove iTunes and all its components completely, reinstall, and try again. Try on another computer if you can also.

  • TS3694 Error code 3014, not explained although in heading.  I could not update my iphone to OS6 as received 3014 error.  Please explain or help

Hello, received error code 3014 when updating my iphone software to ios6.  Click on help error code but nothing was displayed.  Can anyone tell me what the code mean and how I get my iphone updated?

Errors 3000-3999 (3004, 3013, 3014, 3018, 3164, 3194, and so on): Error codes in the 3000 range generally mean that iTunes cannot contact the update server (gs.apple.com) on ports 80 or 443.
Update to the latest version of iTunes.
Verify the computer's date and time are accurate.
Check that your security or firewall software is not interfering with ports 80 or 443, or with the server gs.apple.com.
Follow Troubleshooting security software. Often, uninstalling third-party security software will resolve these errors.
An entry in your hosts file may be redirecting requests to gs.apple.com (see "Unable to contact the iOS software update server gs.apple.com" above).
Internet proxy settings can cause this issue. If you are using a proxy, try without using one.
Test restoring while connected to a known-good network.

  • ITunes could not contact the iPhone software update server because you are not connected to the internet...???

    Ok I’m completely lost here....
I’m running Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition Service Pack 3 (Build 2600), I updated iTunes to 11.0.2.25 and some other updates for windows last night on my laptop. I try connecting to download the iOS 6.1.2 update for my iPhone 4 and my iPhone 5 via iTunes. I am getting this message for both "iTunes could not contact the iPhone software update server because you are not connected to the internet. Make sure your internet connection is active and try again." Everything was fine with connecting prior to running these updates because I downloaded the 6.1 update with no problems when it came out.
What I have done so far with which has made no difference:
    Checked my internet connection
    Changed my internet connection
Signed out of iTunes and then signed back in
Ran diagnostics via iTunes, comes back with: Network interfaces verified- Internet connection failed- Secure link to iTunes store verified
Connection attempt to Apple web site was successful.
Connection attempt to browsing iTunes Store was successful.
Connection attempt to purchasing from iTunes Store was successful.
Connection attempt to iPhone activation server was successful.
Connection attempt to firmware update server was successful.
Connection attempt to Gracenote server was successful.
Last successful iTunes Store access was 2013-02-20 20:40:48.
Disabled firewall, spy sweeper, virus scanner
    start>run>cmd> typed "netsh winsock reset"
    Rebooted
Checked the parental controls in iTunes
    Start>control panel>internet options>connections tab> lan settings> selected the "automatically detect settings"
    Deleted iTunes and reinstalled iTunes
When I would "ping gs.apple.com" it would come back with "request timed out" no matter what internet connection I was on, so I went into the hosts file  start>my computer>(C:)>WINDOWS>system32>drivers>ect>HOSTS and added  "#     127.0.0.1     gs.apple.com". Now it will ping gs.apple.com just fine but still comes up with the "iTunes could not contact the iPhone software update server because you are not connected to the internet" message in iTunes when i try to download the update.
If anyone can come up with any ideas that I haven’t tried, please let me know. This is keeping me back from updating both of my phones along with if anything should ever happen to them; restores as well.

im computer is connected i can go to the apple store through itunes but when i plug my phone in i keep getting that alert... i plugged my phone in to update it after the apple loaded the itunes icon and a usb showed up.

  • ITunes could not update the carrier settings on your iPhone

When I try to download and install the new carrier settings file, I get the message "iTunes could not update the carrier settings on your iPhone. You do not have enough access privileges for this operation." (I got a similar message when I tried to download and install the OS update.)
I've been able to work around the problem by creating a different user and installing from there. But I'd like to be able to find and correct the cause of the error message instead of using a workaround. It seems like there's a file or folder somewhere that has somehow become read-only. Does anyone know where iTunes downloads the carrier settings and OS update files?

    Jim VanLeeuwen wrote:
You will find them in separate folders within your user account Library/iTunes folder.
That was it. Somehow the owner of ~/Library/iTunes got changed to root.

Have you tried using Disk Utility to Repair Permissions?
Right after I posted the message I thought that the age-old placebo of repairing permissions might actually fix my problem. Because of your quick reply I found the ownership problem before repairing permissions. So here was the perfect chance for a test. Repair Permissions ran successfully but the owner of ~/Library/iTunes was still root. Repair Permissions fails the test.
I manually changed the owner to steve and was able to download and install the carrier settings.
    Thanks!

  • Could not update OS of iPhone

    Computer running windows XP
Could not update OS of iPhone 5 from 6.0 to 6.1.2. Download process hang after only 1% Download
Internet Security software Norton Antivirus. Could Norton prevent the download?

Thanks. It works. I am surprise that Norton Antivirus will stop the connection with an Apple Download site. I should pass this information to them.
The second problem was when I backup the IPhone 4 and try to restore that to iPhone 5. Nothing went through. I noted that the backup file was named user;s iPhone. When iPhone 5 was connected, it automatically backup the phone's data to user's iPhone!!!. So I changed the name of the iPhone 4 backup and managed to restore the data to iPhone 5. It is because I was using iTune in a windows XP setup. Most annoying.
If Apple want to get the windows community to use its phone, they need to make the transfer of old phone data to the new phone foolproof. I don't use an iPhone.  Better information on the Support Site will help.

  • I was updating the software on my iphone4. I got a message saying that it could not update. Now my iphone will not reboot. It only shows a pic to connect to itunes, but nothing is happening when i connect it.

I was updating the software on my iphone4. I got a message saying that it could not update. Now my iphone will not reboot. It only shows a pic to connect to itunes, but nothing is happening when i connect it. How do I fix this?

If you're not a developer then you really should not have upgraded.
I'm unsure how you can fix this as you have already done a back-up on iOS 7 and apple don't support firmware downgrades.
