Could not use color replacement tool because it only works in full color mode: Elements 11

I have a PSD file open and I added a new layer via the copy command.  I have added a Layer Mask to the new layer and I'm trying to use the Brush Tool with black forground to cover part of the new layer.  I'm following an online tutorial step by step, but when I try to use the Brush Tool I get "could not use color replacement tool because it only works in full color mode".  The Image>Mode is set to RGB.  I'm stuck!

First, show the tools optiond in the bottom of the screen (shortcut F4)
Now look at which of the three options you can select, brush, impressionist brush or replacement tool. I suspect you have to select the brush.
Edit:
The reason of the message is that when you are painting on a mask you are in greyscale mode for the mask. For instance, if you paste a coloured layer into a mask, it will be converted to greyscale.

Go to Image>Mode and be sure it's RGB and not index color or something.

  • Photoshop Elements 8. "Could not use Clone Stamp Tool because of a program error."  Please help.

Photoshop Elements 8.  "Could not use Clone Stamp Tool because of a program error."  Please help.

    Try this:
    Open your picture file
    Access the clone stamp tool
Hold down the ALT key on the keyboard and left click on the area from which you wish to clone, then release the ALT key, and click to place the pixels at the destination
    TIPS:
It is a good idea to open a blank layer at the top in the layers palette, and do the cloning on this layer. Be sure that "sample all layers" at the top is checked. You can change the layer opacity if necessary
Use the bracket keys next to the letter p on the keyboard to increase & decrease the size of the cursor
Let us know  how you make out with the error message now.

  • Photoshop cs6 error "could not use the type tool because the target channel is hidden.  happens when im typing in photoshop, go to another layer and then come back. can't alter text at that point

photoshop cs6 error "could not use the type tool because the target channel is hidden.  happens when im typing in photoshop, go to another layer and then come back. can't alter text at that point.  i really need to get thsi figured out. thank you.

You may have answered my question. I AM using the 64bit version of Illustrator CS6. I had no idea there were bugs in it that affected paths copied and pasted from Illustrator to Photoshop.
A bit more about what I'm trying to accomplish... I'm trying to follow Deke's tutorial (http://www.deke.com/content/dekes-techniques-018-creating-a-3d-pie-chart) which is already difficult since so much has changed between CS5.5 and 6, but then on top of that, I keep getting errors!
So I created the pie chart exactly as he shows and copied and pasted into Photoshop exactly as he does. Before submitting this post, though, I tried drawing just two very simple triangle shapes, copying them both and pasting them into Photoshop as a shape layer. The shapes weren't overlapping, but they were a part of the same shape layer just like the pie chart tutorial.
Thanks for your help. If there is anything else I should try before just giving up because of the 64bit bugs, please let me know.

  • Could not use the move tool because no layers are selected.

This problem started a few days ago. I like to hold down the "Shift" key when moving a layer (either text or image) to keep the horizontal spacing locked. It was never a problem but a dialog box is now popping up with the following note: Could not use the move tool because no layers are selected.
There's no problem if I'm not holding the "Shift" key but I can't keep the layer from moving up or down. I could just use the arrow key but sometimes I need to move the layer quite a distance.
Also, I'm noticing that if I don't have the cursor directly on the type/image layer, regardless of whether the "Shift" key is selected, a rectangle similar to when the "Rectangular Marquee Tool" is used appears and the layer I had selected is no longer selected.
Any ideas as to why this might be happening? Thanks for the help.

Sorry about that. I'm using Photoshop CS4. There are no layer masks and I'm working over a solid white background (although it's happening in all my files, some of which have multiple layers).
I'm mainly designing DVD sleeves, posters, invites, etc. The layers contain images, live text, vector smart objects, etc. and the problem is happening with all layers, regardless of what it is (text or image).
When I have the mouse directly over whatever it is I want to move and hold the shift key I get the "Could not use..." dialog box. When the mouse is NOT over the image/text, but I have the correct layer selected, I get the "Rectangular Marquee Tool" look, a "dashed" rectangular box wherever I've moved the mouse.
Hope the info is helpful and thanks for responding...

  • Could not use the Brush tool because there is not enough RAM? Photoshop CS6?

That and I couldn't even save a project I was working because (There was not enough RAM)
My computer is running Windows 7 with 4 (3 usable) GB Ram, Pentium Dual Core; @ 2.00 Ghz
-I have allocated all possible RAM to CS6
-I set 6 scratch disks (the first two are 1TB external HDD)
-I fixed the file peeling so that there is quite a bit of it
    - I have Photoshop CS5 still installed (it works fine) as well as Elements 9, I don't know if that could be a problem or not.
I like the new features of CS6 especially the new 5000 px brush, but half the time I can't even use it because of this problem! What can I do to fix it?
I mostly use it for digital art so the pictures get to be at most 5000-3300 pixels. I get the problem mostly when I use brushes at 5000 px. CS5 works just fine and it uses the scratch disks I emplace, it seems as though CS6 doesn't even use them.

Obviously, you are running Win7 32-bit OS. Is that correct?
What are the full specs. of your Windows Virtual Memory, the Page File? What is its size, location, and is it static, or dynamically managed?
With a 32-bit OS, I would set the Page File to a fast, internal, physical HDD, set it to be statically managed, and size it to about 2.5x the installed RAM (~ 10GB in your case, and with a 32-bit OS).
That should provide more resources, and by being statically managed, save you CPU cycles too.
I also agree that you do NOT want to allocate all RAM to PS, as the OS needs some too. That will be counter-productive.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • Could not use white point tool

during adjustment in Curves, error as could not use white point tool because of a program error. how to resove?

You should ask in the forum for the program you are using
The Cloud forum is not about using individual programs
The Cloud forum is about the Cloud as a delivery & install process
If you will start at the Forums Index https://forums.adobe.com/welcome
You will be able to select a forum for the specific Adobe product(s) you use
Click the "down arrow" symbol on the right (where it says All communities) to open the drop down list and scroll

  • "Could not use the clone stamp because the area to clone has not been defined (Alt-click to define a source point)".

Few users access our Photoshop through Citrix on a mac but use a Windows 7 platform once they're in Citrix.  They're all having issues using the Clone Stamp tool.  Get the error "Could not use the clone stamp because the area to clone has not been defined (Alt-click to define a source point)". We've reset the clone stamp tool, reset all the tools, and reset the preferences. We've made sure that we're in All Layers.  Nothing seems to be working.  None of the other forums helped either.  Adobe support is no help either.
    Thanks,
    Moe.

Did you check with Citrix support?  Did you try both of the Alt keys.

  • A prompt that says "Could not use the clone stamp because the are to clone has not been defined (option-click to define a source point), appears EVERY time I try to use the clone stamp. What is wrong and how can I fix this

A prompt that says "Could not use the clone stamp because the are to clone has not been defined (option-click to define a source point), appears EVERY time I try to use the clone stamp. What is wrong and how can I fix this?

If a tool is acting up, one suggestion is to reset the tool.
Ctrl-click on the clone tool icon in the Options bar and select Reset Tool.

  • Annoying 'Could not use the history eraser because the current canvas size does not match that of the history state' message

Does anyone know if it is possible to get rid of the message 'Could not use the history eraser because the current canvas size does not match that of the history state'?. It comes up if I hit the alt/option key while I have the eraser selected. Something I do by accident all the time.

The way you've described it, one gets the distinct impression you do not have a clue as to what the history brush does and how to use it.
You need to read up on it.  Read the Help files and google for tutorials.
First you need to create an image (with actual pixels in it), edit it as desired, then make a snapshot of the edited image, then target the snapshot with the history brush tool, then go back in the History panel to the step before your edits and selectively paint your edits in with the History Brush.

  • When I go to download my iMovie to iTunes I get the following message "Unable to prepare project for publishing.  That project could not be prepared for publishing because a error occurred"(disk full).  What do I need to do?

When I go to share my Imovie to Itunes after a couple of hours I get the following message.  "Unable to prepare project for publishing.  That project could not be prepared for publishing because a error occurred(disk full)".  What does this mean and how do I fix it?

This is the forum for iOS (iPhones and iPads),
I have refered it to get moved to the correct forum.
But my guess is that you have to clear space on your harddrive.
The video gets rendered when you out put it, so you will need lots of space to do so.

  • Color Replacement Tool suddenly won't work

Last night I used the color replacement tool without a problem. Today, no matter what I have set for the foreground color, the "replacing" color is grey, OR I don't see any replacing going on at all.
My mode is set to "color." I have tried all the sampling styles, check and unchecking the aliasing box and all the limits options. Nothing!

You have to click on the Result box in the replacement part of the dialog box to pick the color that you want to be the replacement, the top part of the dialog box is used to pick which color is to be replaced. Is this what you are doing?

  • "Could not use the clone stamp because the area is not define (Alt-click...etc), not working?

    Hello,
I can imagine that this looks like a total noob question, but I think there's a little more to this problem. I've had this problem before, then it went away, now it back again, and I can't figure it out.
I wanted to remove a tumb that caught the corner of the lense in a shot with the clone tool, so I choose my clone tool, select a copy of the background layer, and press alt to select my source. It doesn't work! I don't get my little plus thing. I've also noticed that I can't select part of the photo with the lasso tool either. I AM selecting the proper layer on the side! I don't get it, why isn't this working?
I've tried resetting the tool, I've tried several different files, it just refuses to let me select a source. My alt key is working, ctrl-alt-del says so. Just frustating.
    Thanks...

Do you have an active selection, that you trying to work outside of?  Is the layer locked.  Have you done something in the Clone source panel?   You can't actually reset the Clone source panel, but you can zero any angles used with the new default reverse arrow icon.  If all else fails, try deleting the Photoshop preferences file, but holding down Shift Ctrl Alt as you open Photoshop.
