Could someone please advise me on OCR software? I have published books that I need to scan and convert for ePublishing.

Could anyone advise me about OCR software please. I have published books which are now out of print (hard copy only) which I would like to republish as eBooks. However I am uncertain of just what software I should invest in to scan in text particularly as there are hundreds of pages.

I've discovered that all tones purchased will be downloaded as ringtones, BUT they can be utilized as tones and assigned as alert tones on the iPhone...

Thanks for your response. I do believe I have the information needed for each form on a separate line in Excel. There is a first name, middle name, last name, city, and zip column. And field is entered on a different line for all the information. I'm really stuck.

i recently had my computer fixed as it was loaded with viruses. Also I finally got my IPad 1 back from someone who had "borrowed" it for a year. It no longer worked, but in the case i had written down my old apple id. i had purchased 3 other ipad's since then and changed my id. i typed the old id and was delighted to see that i had over $1000 worth of dowmloaded media. i want to use this old acct number on one of my other IPads to avoid confusing two accts, but when i attempted transferring media onto computer it said i needed to first download bonjour. i have been trying to figure out how, but computer genius i am NOT. could someone please help me? i really appreciate any advice you could offer steering me in the right direction with this. thank you, stacey v

Bonjour is a program that is installed on your computer along with iTunes, so you will want to first uninstall iTunes and all of its related components:

I use e-trade and a couple of times, years back, I found them behind the Java updates.
So, now I install new Java platforms on my backup disk and test the streaming data on that first because I know it will be over-written that evening with my nightly backup.
Of course, since I began doing that there hasn't been a problem. Do the same with printer driver updates.
Anyway, call ScottTrade and howl! Tell them how many Macs are out there and why aren't they in Apple Developers Program?

Well I am heading in to the
apple services store to collect my computer which went dead in my power cut 10 days ago (discussed in my last post), and has since been fixed with new power supply. My question is - what's the cheapest and easiest way for me to back-up all my data (several thousand photos, and similar number of songs on iTunes, and a few quicktime video files) Is there a product I can buy to save it on - I have no idea how many gigs etc, that will be? and what I need to buy to do so, and finally, how easy/fast will it be to save everything.... this is indeed a very simple thing, I am sure, but I have never done it before, just saved odd bits on pen drives, etc..... The repair is costing over $400 - and as it's an old imac, aside from the fact it has all of Final Cut Pro Studio on it - it's hardly worth the repair price.... what I want though is to save everything as cheaply and simply as possible - what do I need to buy and how (in simple language please) do I save it... Many many thanks if anyone can put this in simple language for me... Cheers

I agree with BGreg about OWC, great people and service, quality products and competitive prices. Not bigbox sell cheap stuff prices but fair prices. Like him I also like cloning with SuperDuper! or CCC. For most users CCC is perfect - SuperDuper! adds some extras that techs like.
But I'll also add a vote for Apple's own TimeMachine. It is an automatic backup system that runs every hour; the first backup takes a while and the rest not very long because they are backing up only the chances made in the last hour. Due to its schema, TimeMachine is most effective with a backup drive that is 2-3 times larger than your backup set. If you are using 200GB of your 500GB drive, then your TimeMachine backup drive should be at least 400GB and preferably closer to 600GB.
The two backup schemes are different and having two different backups is a very good idea - backup drives have been known to die . The clone's advantage is that it is a bootable system disk - if your computer's drive dies you can boot with it and keep working until you get the computer repaired. If your computer's drive gets messed up you can boot with the clone and try to repair it or at least recover some of the most recent files that aren't on the clone. (Which happens to be one of the disadvantages of a clone - people tend to reclone somewhat infrequently.) Having TimeMachine means you have very recent backups.
So if you intend to keep using this computer - TimeMachine might be the better choice - or at least another consideration. If you are just grabbing data - CCC will do the trick best.

I'm a new Apple convert. I synced my iPhone4 with iTunes library and not correctly, so ended up with each contact repeating from 4 to 8 times on my phone. To get rid of the dupliate contacts try this:
Set up your contacts on your computer as desired. Make sure that autosync is disabled in iTunes/Settings/Devices. Then connect your phone, click on it in the device list, choose the info pane on the right side, move down to the Advanced section and choose "replace all contact info on the phone" This will overwrite the contacts on your phone with the ones from your computer address book.
After that your contacts should be syncing fine.

Please I can't solve this!!! - I have an image that i need to blend into white for printing on a window foil. Where can I upload it to show what i mean?

How can I bland out the dark blues and get the effect that are on bye right image. In the illustration I have bladed it in lighten, but I need to make the same result where the transparency part is white - because the prater that prints on the window foil doesnt print white.

I had some difficulty understanding what you had written but I think this is what you had in mind.
To get this result:
1. Go to Channels and choose the Green channel. Drag it down to the Create New Channel symbol to create Green Copy.
2. Use curves to increase the density of the low end of the tonal scale. The result will look like this, except that it will include white circles.
3. To turn the white circles black, choose the Magic Wand with the Contiguous box in the Options bar unchecked and click on one of the circles. All of them will be selected,
4. Choose Select > Modify > Expand and expand the selections by 2 pixels. Then go to Edit > Fill and fill with black. It now looks like the illustration above.
5 . Go to Layers and trash the lock on the Background. Add a layer below it and fill it with white.
6. Return to the Channels panel, choose Green Copy and Select > All
7. Return to the Layers panel, choose the image layer and click on Add Layer mask.
8. Option click on the mask in the Layers panel. The image area will go white. Edit > Paste and the Green Copy Mask will be inserted in the mask.
9. Click on the eye in the Layers panel to see the completed work. Seen below
10. Last, increase the highlight contrast in the mask to increase the density of the green image.
The final layers panel will llok like this:

I have installed the printer using 'System Preferences' on my i-Mac and it appears on the list of available printers but documents that I create just don't print.

Looking at the Konica web site for the PagePro 1300W, I saw the following note.
Please note: This printer is designed to be used in computer operating systems running MS Windows only. Operating systems such as UNIX, Macintosh, or Linux are not supported nor do we have workaround drivers available. Older MS Windows versions, such as Windows 3.1/95/98[pre-SE] and NT 3.51/4.0, are not supported.
So KM are not going to help you. But the LinuxFoundation does provide a workaround that should allow you to print. Have a look at this web page. You will need to install all three packages as per the instructions from that page.

If you have an iPad 1, the max iOS is 5.1.1. For newer iPads, the current iOS is 6.1. The Settings>General>Software Update only appears if you have iOS 5.0 or higher currently installed.

If you are currently running an iOS lower than 5.0, connect the iPad to the computer, open iTunes. Then select the iPad under the Devices heading on the left, click on the Summary tab and then click on Check for Update.

Aperture 3, Capture One both have tether support for the D600 ... and many more cameras than are supported by Lightroom ... those developers are working and engineering solutions in the very same economy as Adobe (and C1 supports both platforms as well, costs much more than Lr and employs far fewer engineers) ... why aren't they suffering from the same lack of support? ... or using the camera makers to deflect blame for the lack of results?

I'm a classic newbie. I managed to follow some instructions I found on the web to get sabnzbd to install (via Yaourt), and when I invoke it from the command line, it works fine.
I've read that you can get it to start as a daemon, which would be really good. Could someone please explain how this should be done?
Where do I need to put the sabnzbd.init file?
What about the sabnzbd.confd file?
I'm okay enough with adding sabnzbd to the /etc/rc.conf file, but I can't quite configure it so that the necessary files are in place to start it.
If you need any details of my setup, please let me know.

Apart from the wiki article on ABS, always look at the pkgbuild when in doubt. This is also helpful when you want to know what compile arguments are passed to GCC. Custom postinstall commands are run through .install file (example what is displayed after installation), this is generally foo.install in the AUR for a pkg named foo. And most importantly, familiarize yourself with compiling process, and Arch specific routines like a daemon should be defined in /etc/rc.d/, instead of /etc/init.d/ in other linuxes.
Edit: A best exercise would be to create a pkgbuild yourself. Arch always recommends community contributions.
