The security questions will only be asked on the first purchase on a computer or device (though people have occasionally posted that they've asked for them when it isn't the first time) - I'm not aware of any way to change that. You can force the password to be required on your iPad via Settings > General > Restrictions > Require Password set to 'Immediately' (the default is a 15 minute period during which it doesn't need re-entering)

  • Could someone please explain to me how to file a bug report?

    Hi,
I had a problem recently with a bug in uevnts. I found a workaround for it, However when I went to open a bug that had similar symptoms the user got mad and closed the bug. Could someone please explain to me what I need to do to correctly file a bug report, and please don't say read the wiki. As in order to get log files, I need to know where they are, etc...
    Thanks,
    MarcoRosso.

What questions remain after consulting the wiki? Maybe you can post the bug report in question, so it will be easier for others to point out how you could have responded more constructively. First general place to look for log files is /var/log/*.

  • HT2493 Could someone please explain colour tags?

I do not understand the use of colour tags on my Macbook air. Could someone please explain?

The colours are incidental. They are NOT labels any more. You will be frustrated if you try to use Tags to visually find your files.
The advantages of tags are this: you can add as many tags to a file as you like. They provide additional metadata so that you can query your file system. In a typical hierarchical file sytem (folders, subfolder), a file can only be in one place (unless you use aliases).
If I have "Cheeses > France > Soft" as my folders, I can put all the French soft cheese into one folder. But all the English soft cheese are in England > Soft. So what if I want to list ALL the soft cheeses, not just the ones from France? By tagging all the files with "Soft", I can then click on the Tag Smart Folder and list the soft cheeses in both countries' folders all at once.
If used creatively, you could have ALL the files in your Documents folder in one big heap, and then only view subsets of them according to their Tags. Tags represents a complete alternative to using folders to sort your files.
In a sense, a subfolder is simply a Tag in a tree-like structure.
So, instead of trying to visually find some files in a list using coloured labels, you can now query the file system by creating Smart Folders that give you a list of files that match your query: files with Tag X, in folder Y, of type PDF, bigger than 2 MB, containing the word "trumpet".
Visually scouring a folder for files is not as efficient as directly querying the system, even if it is engrained and familiar.

Older iPads got 3G service and were called Wi-Fi + 3G. Newer iPads can connect to faster cellular networks and those are given different names by the major carrier so to simplify things Apple calls the newer models Wi-Fi + Cellular.
iPads with 3G or Cellular are NOT used like a mobile phone. They do not make phone calls or send SMS or MMS text messages, They do connect to the data network and can connect to the web.

  • Could Someone Please Explain

Could someone please explain why this has happened.
This is not the first time I have seen this happen
    86.134.3.68 26.84 up 6.92 down 10ms 30/10/2014
    31.54.152.172 28.57 up 6.23 down 10ms  29/10/2014
I had been connected for 13 days + hours and overnight bt did its thing with my HH3 and changed my
    ip address.
So why after being connected with constant speed test results on ip 31.54.152.172 should my upload speed
    drop from 28.57 to 26.84
Nothing has changed no powercuts no resets same equipment so why?

They could well be rebalancing the gateways to share throughput more equally. There have been lots of reports of people getting massive slowdowns during peak hours.

  • Hi could someone please explain why the iPhone 5 is $600 dollars more expensive to buy in australia than in the US

hi could someone please explain why the iPhone 5 is $600 dollars more expensive to buy in australia than in the US

    bazzerk wrote:
The phones on the us site appear to me to be  the unlocked phones. the contract phones are even cheaper . Australian taxes account for a 10% price diference but really all the Apple products sold in Australia are at least 30% more expensive than in the US and other markets . Why are the local (Aus) apple retailers continuing to price gouge . The ACCC must act to stop this blatant con job..
There are no options currently on the USA Apple online store site to pre-order unlocked iPhone 5's.  The iPhone 5's currently available for pre-order are only availble by selecting a carrier and agreeing to a 2year contract.  The prices listed are all contract-subsidized prices.

  • Could someone please explain what "Run Spindump" & "Run System Diagnostics" does in 'Activity Monitor' ?

Could someone please explain what "Run Spindump" & "Run System Diagnostics" does in 'Activity Monitor' ?

Good question.  You don't need to worry about running those.  They will run automatically when needed by the system.  The information they generate (some) is sent to apple automatically (unless that setting is disabled).
If you want to look at the output of these files, most can be found in the console (Utility/Console).  Open the app and look at all the system messages your Mac generates....on the right hand side I would bet you already have a crash log or spindump that was collected without you even knowing it.

will not give me an unlock code can you help, as Virgin will not help me

You did not buy an unlocked iPhone. Only Apple themselves sell unlocked iPhones in most countries. Your iPhone locked to the first carrier used. Only Virgin could authorize unlocking of your iPhone, and if they will not, there's nothing you can do. Sell the iPhone to someone who can use it with Virgin and buy a truly unlocked iPhone from Apple.

Please can some one tell me how I can remove an ex boyfriends account from my iPad ? I want it update my updates but his email address always comes up and not mine

Press and hold any of the apps on your iPad's homescreen and after a couple of seconds or so they should start to shake. Then press the 'x' in the top left corner to delete the ones that you don't want, and when you've finished deleting press the home button so as to stop the shaking. If you don't get the 'x' on any of the apps that you've downloaded then check that Settings > General > Restrictions > Deleting Apps isn't set 'off'.
Note that deleting an app will delete all of its content as well

  • Can someone explain to me why iTunes will only sync photos ONE WAY from my PC to my iPhone, and not vice versa?

I have photos on my iPhone and want to put them on my PC.  Should be straightforward, right?
So I go ahead and install iTunes, and plug in my phone, and sure enough iTunes tells me I've got 1610 photoes on my iPhone.  It won't let me actually SEE them, of course.  Fine (no, not really fine).  So I create a blank folder on my PC and proceed to do a sync.  My options are to (a) Sync FROM "My Pictures" to the phone, or (b) choose another and sync FROM my PC TO the phone.
Where is the option to sync FROM my phone TO my PC????
It boggles my mind that I have to go outside of iTunes and use Windows Explorer to copy the photos from the phone to the computer.  So I go to "My Computer" and within the iphone Internal Storage there is only a DCIM folder and two sub-folders.  There are only 800 photos there!  Where are the other ones?
Evidently what I can see from Windows Explorer is ONLY the pictures I took with the phone itself, and NOT the pictures I saved from email attachments or instant messages!  Why? Where are they and how can I access them???
SO far, the closest thing I have been able to find is to have to buy a third party App like "Simple Transfer" to do this.  Is this really the case?  Or am I missing something?

Photo sync is only one way, computer to iPhone.
To get pictures from the iPhone to the computer, copy them to the computer as you would with any other device.
Pictures saved from emails or instant messages (if done on the device) are in the camera roll.
Pictures previously synced to the device from a computer are not available to be copied off the device.  They should already be on a computer.

  • Could someone please explain how iPhoto stores files?

    Hi everyone,
I am trying to upload my iPhoto library, which has grown much too ponderous for my laptop's small drive, onto Flickr for storage so I can downsize the iPhoto library to a more useful size.
My iPhoto library tells me that I have 16, 417 photos. When I get info in the Finder for my photos folder, I find that it consumes 79 gb. There is nothing in that folder except the iPhoto library, and get info for that library indicates that it is consuming 137 gb. I am now uploading photos to Flickr using PicBackMan and there are now over 22,600 photos in my Flickr collection, and counting. I don't know when it's going to stop! Of these, PicBackMan's deduper has only discovered and removed 74 duplicate photos. I really don't want to deal with even more photos on Flickr than I have already on iPhoto, but apparently iPhoto is hiding a lot of photos from me that PicBackMan is transferring. photo sizes vary, but typically they run in the 1 mb range.
So I am curious, and might benefit from more understanding about how iPhoto operates. Perhaps someone could explain a few curiosities:
    1) how can a folder have a size that's smaller (much smaller, 79 gb) than the item within it (137 gb)?
    2) why is the iPhoto library so large, 137 gb, when 16,417 photos should only require about 16 gb? Even with 2 versions of each photo (original and edited) plus a thumbnail, it seems it should only need about 40 gb, so what's iPhoto doing with all that additional space?
    3) how many versions of each photo does iPhoto store?
    4) can multiple versions of photos be recognized as duplicates by PicBackMan? (sorry, I realize this is only an iPhoto forum, but just in case you know, I'd like to find out)
    5) does anyone know when my upload is ever going to stop? And if it ever does, how can I efficiently get it down to a more manageable size?
    Many thanks.

Key question: Does PicBackMan  understand iPhoto? I can see no sign on their website that it does, and you should let nothing upload directly from the Finder, but only via hooks into iPhoto.
    1) how can a folder have a size that's smaller (much smaller, 79 gb) than the item within it (137 gb)?
good question, but one for the Finder folks as that's the source of that issue.
    2) why is the iPhoto library so large, 137 gb, when 16,417 photos should only require about 16 gb? Even with 2 versions of each photo (original and edited) plus a thumbnail, it seems it should only need about 40 gb, so what's iPhoto doing with all that additional space?
The Library contains the Master, the Preview, different thumbnails (the main window, faces etc) and a variety of metadata and database files. There are also caches - some, like the one for interacting with iOS devices (the iPod Photo Cache) can get huge, in excess of 20 gigs). But that said, it does seem rather large. Have a look inside, sort on size see where the size is.
    3) how many versions of each photo does iPhoto store?
Full size? Master and Preview, then the thumbs
    4) can multiple versions of photos be recognized as duplicates by PicBackMan? (sorry, I realize this is only an iPhoto forum, but just in case you know, I'd like to find out)
Looking at their web page, I doubt it.

    One for the PicBack people
