Could Someone Please Explain

Could someone please explain why this has happened.
This is not the first time I have seen this happen
86.134.3.68 26.84 up 6.92 down 10ms 30/10/2014
31.54.152.172 28.57 up 6.23 down 10ms  29/10/2014
I had been connected for 13 days + hours and overnight bt did its thing with my HH3 and changed my
ip address.
So why after being connected with constant speed test results on ip 31.54.152.172 should my upload speed
drop from 28.57 to 26.84
Nothing has changed no powercuts no resets same equipment so why?

They could well be rebalancing the gateways to share throughput more equally. There have been lots of reports of people getting massive slowdowns during peak hours.

  • HT2493 Could someone please explain colour tags?

I do not understand the use of colour tags on my Macbook air. Could someone please explain?

The colours are incidental. They are NOT labels any more. You will be frustrated if you try to use Tags to visually find your files.
The advantages of tags are this: you can add as many tags to a file as you like. They provide additional metadata so that you can query your file system. In a typical hierarchical file sytem (folders, subfolder), a file can only be in one place (unless you use aliases).
If I have "Cheeses > France > Soft" as my folders, I can put all the French soft cheese into one folder. But all the English soft cheese are in England > Soft. So what if I want to list ALL the soft cheeses, not just the ones from France? By tagging all the files with "Soft", I can then click on the Tag Smart Folder and list the soft cheeses in both countries' folders all at once.
If used creatively, you could have ALL the files in your Documents folder in one big heap, and then only view subsets of them according to their Tags. Tags represents a complete alternative to using folders to sort your files.
In a sense, a subfolder is simply a Tag in a tree-like structure.
So, instead of trying to visually find some files in a list using coloured labels, you can now query the file system by creating Smart Folders that give you a list of files that match your query: files with Tag X, in folder Y, of type PDF, bigger than 2 MB, containing the word "trumpet".
Visually scouring a folder for files is not as efficient as directly querying the system, even if it is engrained and familiar.

Older iPads got 3G service and were called Wi-Fi + 3G. Newer iPads can connect to faster cellular networks and those are given different names by the major carrier so to simplify things Apple calls the newer models Wi-Fi + Cellular.
iPads with 3G or Cellular are NOT used like a mobile phone. They do not make phone calls or send SMS or MMS text messages, They do connect to the data network and can connect to the web.

  • Could someone please explain to me how to file a bug report?

    Hi,
I had a problem recently with a bug in uevnts. I found a workaround for it, However when I went to open a bug that had similar symptoms the user got mad and closed the bug. Could someone please explain to me what I need to do to correctly file a bug report, and please don't say read the wiki. As in order to get log files, I need to know where they are, etc...
    Thanks,
    MarcoRosso.

What questions remain after consulting the wiki? Maybe you can post the bug report in question, so it will be easier for others to point out how you could have responded more constructively. First general place to look for log files is /var/log/*.

The security questions will only be asked on the first purchase on a computer or device (though people have occasionally posted that they've asked for them when it isn't the first time) - I'm not aware of any way to change that. You can force the password to be required on your iPad via Settings > General > Restrictions > Require Password set to 'Immediately' (the default is a 15 minute period during which it doesn't need re-entering)

hi could someone please explain why the iPhone 5 is $600 dollars more expensive to buy in australia than in the US

The phones on the us site appear to me to be  the unlocked phones. the contract phones are even cheaper . Australian taxes account for a 10% price diference but really all the Apple products sold in Australia are at least 30% more expensive than in the US and other markets . Why are the local (Aus) apple retailers continuing to price gouge . The ACCC must act to stop this blatant con job..
There are no options currently on the USA Apple online store site to pre-order unlocked iPhone 5's.  The iPhone 5's currently available for pre-order are only availble by selecting a carrier and agreeing to a 2year contract.  The prices listed are all contract-subsidized prices.

  • Could someone please explain what "Run Spindump" & "Run System Diagnostics" does in 'Activity Monitor' ?

Could someone please explain what "Run Spindump" & "Run System Diagnostics" does in 'Activity Monitor' ?

Good question.  You don't need to worry about running those.  They will run automatically when needed by the system.  The information they generate (some) is sent to apple automatically (unless that setting is disabled).
If you want to look at the output of these files, most can be found in the console (Utility/Console).  Open the app and look at all the system messages your Mac generates....on the right hand side I would bet you already have a crash log or spindump that was collected without you even knowing it.

  • Constructors, could someone please explain

When an object is created does a constructor HAVE to be created straight after, or does a constructor have to be
    be created before the object?
Also could someone please briefly explain toString
Thankyou, it would be a great help

Actually, constructors do not create objects. They simply initialize objects that have been created.
You don't have to supply a constructor for classes you write. If you choose not to write one, Java will supply one for you by default (it'll take zero parameters).
ToString() is a member function of class Object. It's a good function for you to include in your classes, too. What it should do is transform the salient members of your object into string form. (In fact, when you call System.out.println ("Foo " + foo + " bar " + bar);, what's really happening is that the two references to your object variables, foo and bar, turn into function calls to foo.toString() and bar.toString().
Read "Effective Java" for a good discussion of what a toString function should (and shouldn't!) do...

  • Could someone please explain where I can find the 'built in' imessage app for my MacBook Air so I can place it on my dock?

Forgive my ignorance, but would someone please explain how to set up imessages (with FaceTime) on my MacBook Air dock? I thought it was built in - but do not see it when I search apps. Many thanks.

Choose Applications from the Finder's Go menu and drag Messages and/or FaceTime to the Dock. If the computer's running 10.7.5 or earlier, it won't have Messages, and if it's running 10.6.8 or earlier, needs to get FaceTime from the Mac App Store.
