Could this be the battery?

I have an 8300 Curve approximately 1 1/2 years old.  Every few days I will go to use the unit and find it completely dead.  If I take out the battery and put it back in the phone reboots and works fine... until the next time that it goes dead.  It also "dies" sometimes in the middle of a call.  I use it mostly as a PDA and do not make very many calls with it.  I'm hoping that it could be the battery but am reluctant to buy a new one to find out, as they aren't cheap.  Opinions please.
Thanks in advance... Bob

If you don't want to buy another one then I not really sure what else you can try. Other than borrowing a spare from someone to test it out.

  • My Ipod will no longer turn on could this be the battery

my ipod has quit and it has been on the charger could this be the battery? I have had it for over 6 years

More than likely, especially given the lengthy age of the device.  Batteries only have so many charge cycles they are good for.  After that, only time will tell and if your case, it sounds like it's totally shot in terms of being able to hold any sort of charge.
You can opt to have Apple swap out the battery for a flat fee or you can also choose to send it a third party service center who can do the same job for a little less.  A quick Google search for "iPod battery replacement" should give you quite a few results to work with in terms of finding the best deal.
Lastly, if you feel like you are handy with repairing small electronics, you can choose to purchase a new battery and swap it out yourself.  There are excellent guides over at iFixit that can walk you through the process step-by-step.

No, I have not chosen photos to share as I assumed that the Apple TV would access all photos and music that are stored on my iMac.
Thanks for your advice. I will check it out.

  • My iPad dosent sent seem to be charging , could it be the battery ?

My ipad dosent seem to be charging , could it be the battery ?

It could be, hopefully it isn't. First try a reset. Press and hold both the home and power buttons until the Apple logo appears. Release both buttons. Wait until your iPad starts on it's own. If it still doesn't charge try a different charger and cable. If it still doesn't charge make appointment with the Genius bar at the Apple Store.

  • IPad problem, could it be the battery ?

Hi all, my wife's iPad2 16gb is now 2 years 3 months old, the AppleCare warranty ran out 3 months ago and it has never given any trouble UNTIL YESTERDAY !
It was on charge all day and all night but it never got to 100% !!!, it was stuck on 84% permanently !!!!
Does this mean the battery is on it's last legs ?, what am i to do ?
Does anyone know about, or actually had a new battery ?, i suppose my first port of call is my local Apple Store, but what will they say, over the phone they were very un-comittal .
I have heard a rumour that the battery is non replaceable and i have to give them £100 to exchange it for another one !, but that is only a rumour.
obviously the battery must be a very large part of the insides, and she simply loves her iPad, i dont really want to buy another one !!!!!

If it stops charging at less than 100%, unplug the charger and then replug. Should then charge to 100%.
Also try this  - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.)
The quickest way (and really the only way) to charge your iPad is with the included 10W or 12W (5W on Mini) USB Power Adapter. iPad will also charge, although more slowly, when attached to a computer with a high-power USB port (many recent Mac computers) or with an iPhone Power Adapter (5W). When attached to a computer via a standard USB port (2.5W, most PCs or older Mac computers) iPad will charge very slowly (but iPad indicates not charging). Make sure your computer is on while charging iPad via USB. If iPad is connected to a computer that’s turned off or is in sleep or standby mode, the iPad battery will continue to drain.
Apple recommends that once a month you let the iPad fully discharge & then recharge to 100%.

At this link http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/galaxy-tab-android-tablet,3014-11.html , tests show that the iPad 2 battery (25 watt-hours) will charge to 90% in 3 hours 1 minute. It will charge to 100% in 4 hours 2 minutes. The new iPad has a larger capacity battery (42 watt-hours), so using the 10W charger will obviously take longer. If you are using your iPad while charging, it will take even longer. It's best to turn your new iPad OFF and charge over night. Superb advice R&W!  My email sending block using TalkTalk started 2 months ago using Snow Leopard, continued when I upgraded to 10.8.2, and has been persistent on my wife's new iPad (IOS 6.1).  Implementing your wise words has fixed all that, and now enables me to call her on FaceTime — previously only she could call me.  Thank you so much; this will save hours of further fruitless searching and phoning.
Please remember that your email is now insecure, if you wish to have a secure connection SSL must be on and port 25 should be avoided.

  • MIFI4620LE Jetpack blinking amber light--does this mean the battery is bad? Should the unit operate without the battery installed if plugged in?

MIFI4620LE Jetpack blinking amber light--does this mean the battery is bad? Should the unit operate without the battery installed if plugged in?

The MIFI4620LE Jetpack does not work without a battery installed, even when connected to an external power supply.
I personally think that was a dumb design. I would think the unit would use more electricity when continually charging the battery than just powering the unit it's self, but that's the way Novatel made them.
If your Jetpack works with the battery installed and connected to an external power supply, but does not power on with power supply disconnected, I would say that the battery is defective or worn out.
You should be able to go to a nearby Verizon Store and have them either test the battery or put a new one in it to see if it works. Then you will know if you need to spend the $$ for a new battery. OR if you always use your Jetpack at home, or in your car, just use the old battery connect to a power supply or your cigarette lighter and save the cash.
As the Customer Support person stated, the slow blinking amber light is a normal state when the Jetpack is turned on and connected to Verizon's service.
I hope this solves your problem.

How are you trying to play them, in the iTunes store or the Music and Videos apps ? Downloaded and synced music and videos should be in the Music and Videos apps, and you can stop content that is only in the cloud from showing in them via Settings > iTunes & App Store > Music and Videos 'off' (under the 'show all' heading).
If you don't have your music and films/TV shows in those two apps then you should be able to download them into those apps via the Purchased tab in the iTunes store app.

If you are still under warranty, contact Apple to get it serviced. You can also visit an Apple Store or Authorized Apple Service Provider to get it looked at.

Standard troubleshooting steps in the following order:
    1. Reset: Press the sleep/wake button & home button at the same time, keep pressing until you see the apple logo, then release. Ignore the slide to power off.
    If no change, continue:
    2. Restore your phone from a backup, note: if the problem is related to corrupt data, while this will restore a fresh OS, it will also restore the problem.
    If no change, continue:
    3. Restore as a "new" phone in itunes & re-sync your content. All saved data will be lost.
If no change, make an appointment at an Apple store.

  • Should I disable wi-fi when not using it ? Will this preserve the Battery?

When I`m at home, should I disable the wi-fi when not using the internet ? Does this preserve the battery?

    http://ipod.about.com/od/iphone3g/tp/iphone-battery-life.htm
#5 on the list to preserve battery:
    Keep Wi-Fi Off
The other kind of high-speed network that the iPhone can connect to is Wi-Fi. Wi-Fi is even faster than 3G, though it’s only available where there’s a hotspot (not virtually everywhere like 3G). Keeping Wi-Fi turned on at all times in hopes that an open hotspot will appear is a sure way to drain your battery life. So, unless you’re using it right this second, keep Wi-Fi turned off.
Find it in Settings -> WiFi -> Slide to Off

  • I have been using iCloud since it came out to coordinate my schedules from my phone, ipad and Mac laptop.  Last week they stopped synching...I can't upgrade b/c of memory. Could this cause the problem?

I have been using iCloud since it came out to coordinate my schedules from my phone, ipad and Mac laptop.  Last week they stopped synching...I can't upgrade past OS 5.1.1. b/c of memory (1st generation iPad and iPhone 4s). Could this cause the problem after the release of the new OS?

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
First check that all your settings are correct, that calendar syncing is checked on all devices (system preferences > iCloud on a mac and settings > iCloud on a iPhone, iPad or iPod).
Make sure the calendars you are using are in your 'iCloud' account and not an 'On My Mac', 'On My Phone' or other non iCloud account (you can do this by clicking/tapping the calendar button in the top left corner of the application ), non iCloud calendars will not sync.
If you are sure that everything is set up correctly and your calendars are in the iCloud account, you might try unchecking calendar syncing in the iCloud settings, restarting your device and then re-enabling calendar syncing settings.

    Hi all,
I tried a different charger myself (the power source is reliable). But it does not work too. I think I need to bring it down to apple shop.
But is quite disappointing with the new apple product I have. Cos not only my battery is not charging, my built in speaker, the sound is like broken too. So I can hear some noisy sound when I play music.
I have a power book G4, and the power book, everything is still in good condition. Imagine how many yrs I have with the power book G4. This power book I never bring to do any services before. I sometimes really suspect is it Apple drop quality
(cos the office new bought mac from my boss, the USB port is not working too..)
But thanks all for the reply I think I need to bring it down to apple shop. Thanks!

  • Can I always operate my MacBook while plugged into an electrical outlet,  does this hurt the battery?

Can I always operate my MacBook while plugged into an electrical outlet,  does this hurt the battery?

Doing so does not hurt the battery. When remaining connected to a power source after the battery is fully charged, charging stops.
It is recommended to go through one complete charge cycle at least once a month.

  • Kernel_task and battery? could this be the fix?

'm running 10.6.8 on a 2011 15'' MacBook Pro.  Recently I've had my kernel_task spike up to 700% and stay there for as long as I use the computer.  I checked the internal temperature of my computer using an application and everything was normal (ranging from 37 degrees C to 56 degrees C).
I reinstalled Snow Leopard completely and in Safe Mode, it works but not when I boot normally.
I THINK I MIGHT KNOW THE PROBLEM BUT I NEED HELP.  My battery fried about a month ago (it says Replace Now as the condition) and I've kept the computer with the AC Adapter 24/7.  Do you think the lack of a battery might be affecting my kernel_task?

    TimothyGao,
I know this is an old thread, but I think a lot of people may be seeing this issue and have this question so I am adding my 2 cents for the knowledgebase.
I have the same issue and the same question. I know for sure that the battery is related, although I am not sure if it is 100% of the cause. I have a 15" 2012 rmbp and never had any issues until about 6 months ago. The initial symptom was that kernel_task would jump to 100+ % (my record was 3500%) when I was using my built in display and also had multiple displays connected via thunderbolt. If I closed the macbook lid or unplugged one display the kernel_task would go back to normal levels. Eventually this started happening more frequently during normal use with no external displays connected.
I reset my smc and pram many times.
I deleted the plist the controls the power management (faulty fan config bug).
I forced the GPU into low graphics mode always (turn off graphics switching and hack some plist file -forgot which one)
I did a clean install of Yosemite.
I turned off chrome plugins loading automatically
Eventually I realized that the issue seemed to be related to heat.  The kernel task spins up CPU cycles to stop heat generating processes from maxing out the CPU and overheating the macbook.  About the same time I also realized that the problems seemed to start happening about the time my battery reached 1000 cycles.  I have still not replaced the battery so I am not sure it will fix the issue completely.  I do know that when the power is not plugged in the kernel_task seems to stay relatively low on the CPU usage list.  My battery only lasts about 30 minutes now on low usage so I keep it plugged in all the time. When the kernel_task process pegs my CPU I unplug the power and the process drops back down to normal.
I will replace the battery sometime last week and report back here to say if it resolved the problem.
