Could you install a new quiet fan in a 2011 MBP?

I was just wondering if the new 2012 quiet fans interchangeable with the 2011 13" MBP? It seems like they use the same component layout.

Here's a pretty good description of the steps with pictures: http://www.ifixit.com/Guide/Mac/PowerBook-G4-Al-17-Inch/SuperDrive/55/8/Page-1 . You didn't say which model you have, these are the instructions for all but the very last 1.67Ghz Hi-rez 17" PowerBook.

  • Could  you change to new Mac mini

My friend gave me Mac mini as birthday gift last Sunday.
But I found Apple release new Mac mini with wireless Lan card. (My friend bought this last week)
Can I exchange to new one (mine is still in a plastic cover but box is opened or could you install Wireless lan card?
    My friend still has receipt.
    Please answer...
We don't have Apple shop in my town so I want to visit a apple shop during my business trip in Cincinnati.

If it came from Apple, either online or in a store, it should have been the latest model, and you should call them to discuss it's replacement.
If it came from an Apple reseller, you will likely need to return it to the same place it was bought, since Apple don't control resellers, only sell stock to them.

  • Can I downgrade from pre-installed Lion to Snow Lepoard on Late 2011 MBP i7 2.4?

I've purchased a MacBook Pro Quad-Core i7 2.4 with pre-installed Lion (no installation DVD's included), but, unfortunately, found out that a big number of audio software doesn't run natively and malfunctions with this version of OS, meanwhile they worked flawlessly on my previous MacBook using Snow Leopard.
The question is: can I downgrade from pre-installed Lion to Snow Lepoard on Late 2011 MBP i7 2.4?

Thanks a lot for your reply. I ran into those numerous techy ways of downgrading, but I've found none addressing my particular model (I think I read something about 15", while mine is 17" and sometime it does make difference - because Apple love to keep secrets about what's inside). Since i've got zellions of audio plugins install, I'm trying to make sure that messing around with systems will lead to some fruitful result. So the new question: is there a way to make sure (I haven't found any tech spec threads naming the borderline between a "working variant" and "no-use-trying" variant) - is that just a matter of chance and doing it at one own risk, or is there still a way to make surefire decision?

  • Can you install a new language on a 5800

Are you able to install a new Language on your phone as the default.
This is for a Nokia 5800.
Currently I have English and Philipino and I would like to have English and Russian
     Can anyone help?

Nokia does not provide a way for the customer to add languages to the phone. You can sometimes get languages added by a Nokia service point, but not all of them offer the service.

    Hello Madrid!:
My Oracle´s hero!, your are always a leader for us, the dbas who have just one passion talking about databases: Oracle.
Well It is going to be hard, because I am not only installing Oracle inside a Solaris container but also migrating from Sybase to Oracle!
But again I am acting as a leader, and being woman it is more difficult. I hope that I can see you later, in a course again, but it could be, at the end of this year, because I am not going to be in Mexico City, I am now studying Sybase in order to convert all the dbs to Oracle. I have already installed successfully with your recommendations. You are perfect.
c u later my favorite OCM. I insist, what a beautiful last name you have.

  • Can you install the new Bootcamp and NOT install 10.5?

I have a laptop that I use to do page layout. It took FOREVER to get my print output settings in quark, photoshop, etc just right.
I am currently running the old bootcamp beta. I need to install the new version of bootcamp and its drivers so I can run updates to my Windows partition. I DONT want to install OSX 10.5. Can I install bootcamp and not install 10.5 or am I stuck?

    Jason:
The only way that I know to get the boot camp 2.0 drivers is from the Leopard Installation Disk. You indicated that you want to keep Tiger installed. You also indicated that you have the beta version of boot camp already running. You are in a good situation to update to 2.0 boot camp drivers.
The catch? You will still need the Leopard Installation Disk as you will need to insert that while booted in Windows to start and finish the update process. All of the necessary drivers are on the Leopard CD.
I have a Leopard Installation disk, then simply boot into Windows and get to the Windows desktop. Insert the Leopard installation disk and it will begin updating the drivers. You can leave the Tiger partition as is.

  • New SSD + 8GB RAM on 2011 MBP - Having Issues

I just installed a new 128GB Vertex 4 SSD and 8GB of RAM into my late-2011 13" MacBook Pro. I did a clean install of Lion on the new drive and enabled TRIM support. Although I have seen a slight difference in performance, it is taking forever to download large files. Currently it is downloading between 200-400KB/S. It has been running for an hour and not even a fourth of the way done. When I downloaded the application before on my stock 750GB HDD it only took about 30 minutes.
What do you think is causing this major decrease in download time? Is there anything I need to do with the new SSD to improve performance?

I started to download iPhoto from the App Store but ended up pausing it because it was taking forever. I then unplugged and reset the Internet connection thinking that could be an issue. I havn't tried to resume the iPhoto download yet but I did start to download Left 4 Dead 2 off Steam. It's downloaded 3500MB out of 13000MB with a peak download rate of 910KB/S. The average has been between 400-600KB/S since I last posted.
If it is the internet then it is going to be what its going to be. Even so, is there anything else I need to do with the new SSD then? I've read about updating firmware but also read not to update it for the Vertex 4. I tried doing as much research as possible on what I needed to do for installation but this is my first time with it all.

  • What are the steps to follow after you install a new Hard Drive on a 17in Macbook Pro mid 2009

I plan on installing a larger Hard Drive..the physical part is simple..but what are the steps after you close it up and hit the power button? Is there softwre on the mother board that will start the unit running??

A new Hard drive will not be Mac-formatted, so you will have to do that first. A copy of Disk Utility to do the job is also on the 10.6 Installer/Utilities DVD.
Boot to the installer DVD, but do not Install. Answer only the "what language" question, and wait a quarter minute for the menuBar to be drawn. Choose Disk Utility from the Utilities menu that appears.
Select the Hardware_name of the new Drive. Partition, one partition, ( Options ), GUID partition table. Name the partition: MacIntosh HD and choose Format: Mac OS X Extended (journaled). It will complete in a minute or two, as it only rewrite the Directory area.
If you wish to shake out your drive, you can erase it and Security Erase, Zero all data, one pass. But this takes HOURS.

  • Hi...how can you install a news version...without...Gologle & Yahoo toolbars?

Hi...why have you done this to Firefox????? No...Google or Yahoo toolbars???? Are you nuts......you have to add them.
    Thanks....Tom Weeden

Hmm, I hadn't thought of that.  I didn't actually build a package from it, because I didn't know where the problem was.  So I just compiled a bunch of things the old fashioned way and ran them without installing anything until I had narrowed down the problem.  But I'm sure there's an mplayer-svn in AUR I could use - good idea.

  • Can you install onto new computer since current computer I am going to throw away?

    Hi,
I have Creative Suite Design Standard (CS5 version) for a Mac OS about 3 years ago.  Have brought a new Mac and would like to install the Creative Suite Design Standard (CS5 version).  Question is, can it be installed on both computers, if not, that's fine, as long as I can install on my new Mac?

Yes and yes. you have two activations and activations can be managed from the apple menu --> Deactivate/ Activate.

  • Each time you install a new game, you need to run Creative ALchemy and "Transmute" your application.

What does this mean and how do you do it. I just put Guild Wars on my machine but no EAX so I assume this is why.
    Help is needed, thanks.

First thanks for the reply and so what you are saying is that I need to put the game in the Alchemy.ini file. I thought it would see the game automatically or am I wrong on that.
The only games that Alchemy will see automatically are the ones that are already in the Alchemy.ini, most (or all) of which should be listed here,
    http://connect.creativelabs.com/alch.../AllItems.aspx
If you click on the "ALchemy Quick Start" link in the left menu you will get the help menu that tells you how to add games to Alchemy. Personally I prefer to use the GamePath method over RegPath, just easier than mucking about and trying to find the correct regpath. For example I have Far Cry 64 installed (and to tell the truth I dont even know if there is a regpath to use, never looked) and all I did was open Alchemy.ini (in Notepad) and added the following,
    [Far Cry]
    GamePath=D:\Program Files\Ubisoft\Crytek\Far Cry\Bin64
(D in my case, but would be the drive letter for wherever ou have the game installed), then ran Alchemy and it was in the added games list and clicked Transmute. BTW Far Cry 64 works and sounds great using Alchemy.

  • G4 MDD: Installing a better (quiet fan)

I still have G4/dual 1.25 which keeps on truckin'. I'd like to utilize it for secondary uses around my office, but the main drawback is that it is LOUD! Especially compared to a modern Mac Pro.
What component is it in the G4 that is particularly loud (what fan), and can this be replaced with anything a little quieter?

Hi! READ THIS. Also HERE and HERE is more fan info. Tom

  • Can you install the new lion software on more then one mac or do you need to bye it for every computor

Three macs do I need to bye it three times.

Yes, but each computer must be running Snow Leopard 10.6.7 or 10.6.8. Log onto the Mac App Store using the same Apple ID. Click on the Purchases icon in the toolbar. You should see an Install button to the right of the Lion purchase in the list.
If after you have downloaded Lion the first time you quit the installer instead of installing, then you can save the installer file to another drive as backup. You should find it in the Applications folder. Otherwise, the installer deletes itself automatically when finished installing.
