Couldn't edit in Photoshop.

I got this error on my Encore CS4.
"Couldn't edit in Photoshop. Photoshop does not appear to be installed."
I pressed the edit menu in photoshop button and this popped up.
Then I went to start up Photoshop CS4 to see what the deal was. It worked fine.
So what do you guys suggest?
-John

I found the solution bro. All you have to do is make sure the "PSD" file extension is associated with Adobe Photoshope.
1) Go to Control panel, than folder options, than file types.
2) find the PSD extension in the list, click on it, than at the bottom where it say "open with" hit the change button.
NOTE: If there is no PSD extension in the list hit the button that say "new" and type PSD and hit ok then hit the change button
3) A window will open that say "what do you want to do" hit the "select the program from the list" button than ok
4) Than a new window will open with programs listed just choose "Adobe Photoshop"
5) Make sure the "always use the selected program ot open this kind of file" box is checked than hit ok.
Thats all. it only took me one minute to do, it so so easy.

  • Can't "Edit in Photoshop CS6" in Lightroom 4.1, after upgrading Photoshop from CS4

I recently installed Creative Suite 6 Production Premium, and uninstalled Photoshop CS4, but Lightroom seems to be confused and doesn't show "Edit in Photoshop CS6" as an option.
Lightroom seems to be aware that Photoshop CS4 is no longer installed: the first command under "Edit In" is "Edit in C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS4 (64 Bit)\Photoshop...", and all the Photoshop-specific "edit in" commands (smart object, layers, etc.) are unavailable.  I tried adding Photoshop CS6 as a secondary editor, but this makes Lightroom export a TIFF to PS rather than opening the file in Camera Raw.
I'm not sure what I have to do to convince Lightroom that I have Photoshop CS6 installed.  Any ideas?
    Thanks!

Well, I had searched the forums before and couldn't locate an answer, but ended up finding an answer through the "more like this" links at the right.  The CS4 path was stored in the Windows registry; I had to update it to CS6 and it's now working perfectly.
Just in case anyone else comes across this problem, here's the forum post:

  • Edit in Photoshop Fixed in 2.1--Well not really!

Just downloaded the 2.1 update and tried out one of my major annoyances which was the edit in Photoshop bug which would not automatically add the file back into Lightroom. Now when I do it, seems to edit the photo, then save it back to Lightroom. Only problem now is color lables. When I edit, I assign color labels for B&W, Tweak, Standard. Yellow is for B&W, Green is for Tweaks, and Blue is standard edits. If I choose to edit a photo that has a yellow label in photoshop, it adds it back to lightroom with no color label. I then need to stop filtering by color label, find the edited file, assign it my yellow color label, and then go back to filtering my images in order to stack it with the original. Whew, too much work. Any body have any ideas?
    Thanks,
    Toby

Toby I could be wrong and if I am someone I am sure will point it out.
I thought that when you edited an image in Photoshop that you weren't
actually editing the original image file, but a copy. If that is the case
the image you save after editing in Photoshop is a totally different file
(someplace on your system) and being that wouldn't have the color code
assigned because it isn't that image any more.
Right or wrong what I would like to see adding is that when you edit an
image or take it to another program or whatever for whatever reason (HDR,
Pano, etc.) when it came back in to LR it was automatically added to a new
collection called edited. This would be a LR only collection that the user
couldn't add to other than to edit a photo in photoshop, make a panorama,
etc. This way you could easily find, move, keyword, etc. images that you
just stitched, made in to an HDR or edited in photoshop. This would save you
from having to search the library for them.

  • Editing with Photoshop CS3

I have just purchased PSE 8.. I do all my editing usually with Photoshop CS3. I use PSE mainly for the organizer. When I choose Edit with Photoshop, it launches the application but the photo does not open in Photoshop. Nevertheless, there is a banner accross the photo in PSE that says "Edit in Progress". If I close Potoshop, the banner stays there. I have to close PSE to get rid of it. If I choose "Open with Photoshop Elements" it works fine.
That used to work fine with my previous version of PSE 6.0. Any suggestion on what I might be doing wrong?
    Thanks.

    Hi Majouz,
Sorry I was out of town for a week so couldn't respond. I use CS3 on a Windows XP machine (2GHz Intel, 1 GB RAM).
Can you please see if the photograph filename or the folder path contains any special characters like aprostrophe, ampersand and all? If yes, rename your files / folders and try again.
Let me know if this works for you.

  • "Edit In" Photoshop CC not working for RAW or DNG files after applying LR 5.3 and Camera Raw 8.3

I just applied the Lightroom 5.3 and Camera Raw 8.3 updates and now am no longer able to open RAW or DNG files into Photoshop CC. When I select a file and choose "Edit In" Photoshop, photoshop will launch, then nothing will happen. After 2 to 5 minutes, an error will popup in Lightroom saying "The file could not be edited because Adobe Photoshop CC could not be launched." An error I've never seen before. When I click "Ok", Lightroom will show that it's "preparing a file for editing" in the upper left, it will create and save a psd to disk and in the catalog (another new behavior), then it will open in photoshop. All other file types (jpgs, tiff, psd) seem to work/open fine between applications. No difference if I open photoshop prior to selecting "Edit In". Selecting "Edit In" other applications, like Viveza, work fine.
I tried first deleting preference files in both applications. No luck. Ditto for plugins. Notta. Eventually I completely uninstalled and fresh installed Photoshop, Lightroom, and Bridge from the cloud. Same deal...can't open raw/dng files into Photoshop.
I'm at a complete loss, dead in the water, with a mountain of editing work piling on top of me. Kicking myself for applying the upgrades, which I had been delaying for some time to avoid just such a cluster%#$. Ugh.
    I'm on a PC running Windows 7 64bit.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

In the normal situation, LR needs to see a PS installed for it to detect the Edit In PS option is possible, so if you uninstall both, then install PS, first, then LR.  Of course with this release there may be some hiccup that requires installing either one or the other, again, but if you've uninstalled both and are reinstalling both, then install PS, first.

  • 'Edit in Photoshop' not working with RAW photos

I'm not sure when this started happening, but right now I can't open DNG or CR2 files (but JPEGs work fine) in photoshop either via the 'Edit in Photoshop' option, or the 'Merge to Panorama/HDR Pro in Photoshop' option. All it does is open the Photoshop application, but doesn't actually open the files I selected within Photoshop. I was able to add Photoshop CS5 in the 'Additional External Editor' section in the pref. pane which allowed me to open the RAW files in photoshop, but the Panorama and HDR Pro options still don't work. I tried reinstalling Photoshop, updated Camera Raw (and the rest of Adobe's products I have installed) to the latest version, reinstalling Lightroom 3.0, upgrading again back to 3.2, deleting the plist files in ~/Library/Preferences/ for both Lightroom and Photoshop, nothings worked. I'm running on a Mac so the registry hacks I've seen while googling aren't going to fix this issue. Has anyone else had this issue?
    Thanks in advance,
    Chris Lucas

Just came across this, which just worked for me (on a Mac):
    http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/401/kb401629.html
Don't know why it took me so long to come across it, but I just successfully open a CR2 file in Photoshop CS5 from Lightroom 3.

  • Lightroom 5.6 Error: The file could not be edited because Photoshop CC could not be launched...

I upgraded to lightroom 5.6 recently and i am using photoshop cs 6.
My OS is windows 8 on i5 4670 with R280X gfx card 16gb ram
After editing a photo with lightroom , when I right click to edit in photoshop, immediately photoshop launch but the image isnt imported to photoshop.
After like 30sec  an error message pop out saying "The file could not be edited because Photoshop CC could not be launched".
After another 10sec then the photo appear in photoshop... this is getting irritating to me.
if i select to just open the original or a copy of the original it works fine. It only happens when I try to open it with lightroom changes.
I had uninstall/reinstall both photoshop and lightroom as well as remove all the plugins i had, but the problem doesnt go away.
Another issue with lightroom 5.6 is the the adjustment brush is slow and sluggish, it is so unusable when I zoom in to use the adjustment brush.
I didnt had that issue before i upgraded. OMG
anyone have solution to my problem ?

I upgraded to the latest version of ps cc 2014 , problem resolved.

  • Acrobat PDF edited in Photoshop opens with different proportions in Acrobat

I opened an Adobe Acrobat drawing PDF in Photoshop. I then cropped and rotated the image in Photoshop.
When I reopened the image in Acrobat Professional, the proportions had changed. The image was stretched vertically.
How can I get the image to reopen correctly in Acrobat Professional, after editing in Photoshop? I have a feeling it has to do with a setting in Photoshop.

Thank you for replying as nobody else did.
I've already switched back to A9.
I shouldn't have to upgrade again - I should be able to use the software I just paid for.
Sorry if that sounds rude but I can't be the only person who had that issue.

  • Photoshop CS3 doesn't open or error occurs, when you Edit in Photoshop CS3 from Photoshop Lightroom 2

Problem: When you try to Edit in Photoshop CS3 from Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 2, Photoshop CS3 doesn't open, or after Photoshop opens, you see the error message, "Photoshop could not be launched".
This issue is currently being investigated. At present, there are two possible areas that might be causing this issue. Corrupted metadata or a corrupted catalog, or Photoshop CS3 has not been updated to 10.0.1, or the update did not apply correctly to the application.
We are working for a permanent solution for this issue.
Workaround: Please refer to this Adobe

  • "Edit in Photoshop CC" launches Photoshop, but doesn't open the image.

I'm working on a Mac with Lightroom 5 and Photoshop CC. When I select "Edit in Photoshop CC" from Lightroom, Photoshop launches, but the image doesn't open up. What is going on? This is a new problem since loading Lightroom 5 & Photoshop CC - it worked normally on my machine with previous versions.
    Thanks!

    Hi,
I've been dealing with this problem for almost a month now and still no solution. Here's what I've tried:
    - Installed PS 2014 with pre-existing PS CC and LR 5.5 with pre-existing LR 5.4. Then...
    - Uninstalled LR 5.5 and PS 2014, reinstalled PS2014 first, LR second. Didn't work.
    - Did the opposite - reinstalled LR5.5  first, PS2014 second. Didn't work.
    - Removed PS CC and LR 5.4, reinstalled LR 5.5 and PS 2014 (in both orders). Didn't work.
    - Removed everything Adobe from the computer:
       - Creative Cloud, PS CC, PS 2014, LR 5.4 and 5.5
       - Deleted everything I could find relating to PS CC, PS 2014, LR 5.4 and 5.5.
       - Ran AdobeCreativeCloudCleanerTool.exe to remove all traces.
       - Reinstalled Creative Cloud, PS 2014 and LR 5.5. Didn't work.
       - Uninstalled PS 2014 and LR 5.5, reinstalled in reverse order. Didn't work.
One clue to the problem I stumbled across by accident leads me to believe the problem is something to do with ACRaw. If I try to open a JPG in LR 5.5 it opens fine in PS 2014. However if I try to open a RAW file (Nikon's NEF format) I get the "The file could not be edited because Adobe Photoshop CC 2014 could not be launched" message.
This is driving me buggy. Without the ability to go back and forth between LR and PS, the whole workflow is ruined.
    Any new thoughts?
    Thanks, EdB

If I'm in LIghtroom 5, and try to Edit in Photoshop CS6, I always get the following message: "This version of Lightroom may require the Photoshop Camera Raw plug-in version 8.6 for full compatibility." But I have updated to 8.6 and have no remaining updates. How can I fix this?
If I click "Open Anyway" or "Render using Lightroom", I get the following message:
"Adobe Photoshop CS6 cannot be opened because of a problem.
Check with the developer to make sure Adobe Photoshop CS6 works with this version of OS X. You may need to reinstall the application. Be sure to install any available updates for the application and OS X."
Please tell me what to do so I can edit from Lightroom to Photoshop.

In Photoshop, if you choose Help - About Plug-in... - Camera Raw, does it say 8.6?
Seems to me there was some hiccup they found in the update process, which prompted this:
Camera Raw updates cannot be applied
I honestly don't know if the problem could apply to 8.6 as well, which is why I asked you to check to make very sure you really got it.

  • Edit in Photoshop CS4... does not open the selected file.

Sorry if this is an old topic, but I can not seem to find the answer and I was hoping someone here might know.
When in Lightroom (2.2 or 2.3) if I select "Edit in Photoshop CS4..." or any of those dropdown commands, Photoshop opens....and that is it. The selected photo from Lightroom is NOT opened/merged/panoramaized. duuh. frustrating.
So I re-installed Lightroom, updated to the 2.3, re-installed CS4. all with the same effect that Photoshop opens, but the selected file is NOT opened.
Has anyone experienced this? Any solutions?
    Thanks in advance.

    When you remove the obvious,
that which is left must therefore be the truth -- Sherlock Holmes
    Short version:
When I created a new lightroom catalog, and imported a single, standalone file, It worked fine. But when I imported to the new catalog, any photos from my existing catalog, it would fail.
Turns out that I was doing something a bit out of the ordinary with the IPTC Copyright field. In order to make my copyright information look "different" when I would export a file.
One would normally put in that field something like "© 2009 someone". I discovered a few months ago that I could make this field display as a multi line entry.
    ie.
if you wanted to put XY into the copyright field, but wanted it to display as:
    X
    Y
all you would have to do is to put a carrage return between the two characters. (hint ctl^enter). Now when you displayed the "copyright" in an output file, it will display
vertically instead of all the characters in a horizontal line.
After being frustrated by this for a couple of weeks, I simply started removing every option that I might have applied to photographs that I would import with Lightroom. One of the last ones was the "vertical" information I put in the copyright field in a Preset. (when you remove the obvious...).
Funny thing is that no program really cares about the formatting of that field, or if it has multiple lines in the data, or special characters.......It even opens up just fine in Photoshop / Gimp / PSE / etc. with no problems.
But, if you have multiple lines of data in the Copyright Field (and I suspect others as well),
AND you want to open up the file from Lightroom in Photoshop, using the standard menu item of " Edit with Photoshop CS4", for some reason Photoshop will start, but never open the designated file. I would expect some parsing something just giving up after it encounters a CR.
But.....All is well that ends well. Now I can quit obsessing, and move on to something else...
    Best,
    Jim

  • Images edited in Photoshop not showing up correctly in Lightroom after saving

    Hi,
I recvently got Adobe cloud and upgraded from Lightroom 3 to 4.  Since the upgrade I have been having issues with Lightroom not correctly displaying images edited in Photoshop.  Instead of the photoshop image it creates a new jpeg and displays that in the library.  the PSD does not get loaded into the library.
I am taking a jpeg from my library and shoosing the edit in Photoshop function.  I am selecting edit a copy, but have tried it with original and with edit a copy with lightroom adjustments as well with the same results.
In Photoshop I am duplicating the base layer, upscaling the image, running some filters, adding dsome adjustment layers.
I save the image in Photoshop format back to the original folder where the initial jpeg was in the Lightroom library.  I save it with maximize compatibility on.
When I go back to Lightroom, the catalog displays two files, the initial jpeg and an identical copy to it, NOT the new photoshop file with alterations.  If I go to the folder the images are housed in in Finder using the show in Finder command both images link to the same original jpeg.  The photoshop edited file is there in the folder but does not show up in Lightroom unless I drag and drop it.
I have turned off all filters and made sure the sort is sorting by name.  The image does not automatically show up in Lightroom after editing.  Any suggestions?
    Thanks for any help!
PS. I did search the topic and there are threads from 2007 and lightroom 2 but their solution was to start from scratch essentially and I have a carefully tagged, starred, and labeled catalog of 30,000+ images and really don't want to do that

Images that are edited in Photoshop will be displayed automatically in Lr only when the image-file saved in Photoshop is the same as the one opened from Lr.
You say you open a JPG from Lr, then edit it in PS by - among other things - adding some layers. Layers are not supported in the JPG-format so you have to either save it as a psd or as a jpg-copy.
In either case this is not the same image file as the one opened in Lr, so it will have to be imported into Lr to show up. If you would flatten your image after editing in PS and then do a <save> to your JPG - not a <save as> - it will show up in Lr.
PS: the only exception is when you open a Raw image from Lr in PS and you save it in PS in the file format specified in Lr for external editing. The saved file will automatically show in LR.

  • Can I select multiple photos from iPhoto to edit in Photoshop Elements?

From iPhoto I am wanting to select all the photos from an event or album to edit in Photoshop Elements to avoid having to switch back and forth between the two. I have PSE set up as the external editor in iPhoto. When I have the photos selected in iPhoto and click the edit button, the most photos that will show in the PSE project bin is 4. I can go back to iPhoto and select more and they will be added to the existing photos in the project bin, but again I am trying to avoid having to go back and forth, and want to be able to edit one event/album in one sitting. I've tried highlighting each individual photo within an event, and also just the event, but still the max is 4 photos. It seems when I did this a couple months ago it worked fine, but since it is not doing it now I am questioning whether I imagined the whole thing! Is there a way to have more than 4 photos at a time? Thanks in advance for all help provided.

Hi, cyndy. Welcome to the discussions. No, 4 is the largest number you can send to PSE at one time. (This is an iphoto limitation, incidentally, not a PSE limitation.)
