Although you're getting a different error message, try the procedure from the following user tip with that one:

  • When installing itunes 10.5.1 for win 7 64 bit get message that installer is 32 bit.

Atempted to install itunes 10.5.1 for Win 7 64 bit. Receive dialog box that the installer is 32 bit. Points me to an address in Apple for Bonjour Print Services for Windows. After clickin on OK the install proceeds but Itunes will not start.
Itunes has also reformated the library so an older version of itunes can nolonger read the file.

I got the same message about the network resource that I can't access.  The only difference is that I couldn't install Itunes 10.3 because I can't remove the old version of Bonjour.  I couldn't get rid of anything in add/remove programs, but I went into my program folders and deleted everything that had to do with Itunes.  I also ran a Windows Cleanup Utiltiy.  Nothing will work.  I still can't remove Itunes, Bonjour, Quicktime, MobileMe Control Panel, Apple Mobile Device Support, Apple Application Support, or Apple Software Update in add/remove programs because they are on a network resource that I can't access even though I deleted them from the program folders.  This is very frustrating!

  • I couldn't open my iTunes and now I can't install iTunes

Hi, I couldn't open my iTunes last week. I kept getting an error message and a note saying it would send a report to apple. My friends suggested uninstalling iTunes and reinstalling it so, I followed the steps from this link (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1224) to uninstall iTunes. When I tried installing iTunes I got the following message "There were errors with the installation. You may want to try installing again. (Huge exclamation point) The installation failed. The Installer encountered an error that caused the installation to fail. Contact the software manufacturer for assistance." I have tried a few times to reinstall and have had gotten this message every single time. Also, when I tried backing up my iTunes library incase I had to reboot my computer, everything that was purchased from the iTunes store had an error message behind it. My Amazon music was fine and copied over problem free, but my iTune music was very wishy-washy. I'm at a loss about what to do now. Does anyone know what to do?

  • Trying to install iTunes, going to wrong drive and won't insall

Trying to install iTunes on my work laptop at home. I want it installed on my hard drive. I had loaded it a couple of weeks ago, and put all the tunes and folders on a network drive at work, called the j drive. Now, it seems to default to the j drive - when I try to install now, it errors out as invalid drive j:/ or whatever. I removed iTunes and deleted all the folders off Windows, didn't help.
How can I get it loading to the c drive instead of j? It doesn't give you a destination option when running it!

Well, finally stumbled on the answer, or at least I think the answer, in the installation problems tab on this site. I had to download tweakUI from Powertoys and relocate the default my music folder to the c drive from the j drive. When I reinstalled iTunes, I am able to unplug my computer from the network and still have iTunes come up and work. Which I couldn't do before.
It's also a fix for the error coming up at can't find my music folder.

  • Why can't I install iTunes version 10.5 or higher? I've tried everything suggested on this forum, my friend has a mac and she can't either and it seems like the main problem is the apple Mobile device.exe wont install and applesync

    Hey anybody,
Neither myself (running on PC windows vista 32 bit) or my friend (on a mac) are able to install versions of iTunes around 10.5 or higher successfully. This leads me to believe the problem isn't necessarily with our computers and there may be something wrong elsewhere. I'm not a computer wiz but I have tried most of the advice on these forums e.g. Uninstalling and reinstalling, deleting temporary files, expanding files and trying individual downloads and more. I can install older versions of iTunes where they use to combine it with QuickTime with no problems however this is no good to me or my friend because only versions 10.5 and up come with support with iPhone 4S and that's what we need. I managed after several attempts to install iTunes 10.52 but without the apple mobile device so therefor the iTunes wouldn't connect to my phone or recognise it, apple sync notifier also has problems and fails to start.
Please can someone help me with this, I have tried everything on the apple troubleshooting pages so please don't link me those. Or please can iTunes and apple do something in an update that corrects this problem because I know many people are having similar issues. I only bought this phone for the music and at the moment I feel cheated because I wouldn't have these problems with any other phone because I'd just be able to drag and drop.

    Hi there,
I had the same experience. I'm using a Dell Inspiron 1545 laptop, with Windows 7 Home Edition, 32 bit.
I tried to install iTunes 10.5 and it started installing, then, just before the end of the process, came up with the following error message:
"There is a problem with this Windows Installer Package. A program required for this install to complete could not be run. Contact your support personnel or package vendor."
Of course, no information on what the program that couldn't be run was! At first I tried the usual stuff, like scanning for viruses etc. but nothing doing. Then I started Googling. In the end, I uninstalled all Apple stuff from my computer. A lot of it I had to do manually, going in to the program files drive and deleting stuff from there, but some of it wouldn't delete as it was saying it was open in Windows Explorer. In the end, I managed to delete the iTunes folders by selecting one of my mp3 tracks saved on the computer and right clicking 'open with'. I then browsed my pc to locate the iTunes folders still outstanding and was able to right click and delete them that way.
Then emptied the recycle bin and did a restart before going online and downloading iTunes 10.5.
Thankfully it worked, but its taken me a good few hours and made me really quite tetchy! I've never had this problem before, so I hope this is going to be a one off.
One thing that doesn't seem to be working is that, despite how many times I tell it that my preference is for the iTunes Media folder to be located on my external hard drive, it keeps putting it back to the C drive! Didn't have that issue with the last version. Grrrrrr. Arrrrgggh.
Hope you manage to get yours sorted - this is affecting a lot of people by the look of things.

  • I am trying to install itunes on my pc again but keep getting an error that says'apple application support was not found. try reinstalling itunes.' error 2

I am trying to install itunes on my pc again but keep getting an error that says'apple application support was not found. try reinstalling itunes.' error 2.
We have had itunes on this pc for 2 years and recently it wouldn't open and another error message kept popping up saying it couldn't open because MSVCR80.dll was missing. I have unistalled the apple programs and tried reinstalling several times but to no avail. Hopefully my music library is not gone. Any Ideas out there?

With the Error 2, let's try a standalone Apple Application Support install. It still might not install, but fingers crossed any error messages will give us a better idea of the underlying cause of the issue.
Download and save a copy of the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64setup.exe) installer file to your hard drive:
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
Download and install the free trial version of WinRAR:
    http://www.rarlab.com/
Right-click the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64Setup.exe), and select "Extract to iTunesSetup" (or "Extract to iTunes64Setup"). WinRAR will expand the contents of the file into a folder called "iTunesSetup" (or "iTunes64Setup").
Go into the folder and doubleclick the AppleApplicationSupport.msi to do a standalone AAS install.
Does it install properly for you?
If instead you get an error message during the install, let us know what it says. (Precise text, please.)

  • Have to re-install iTunes everytime I sync iPhone 4

The most annoying thing ever, for ages I couldn't get my computer to recognise my new iPhone, after trying everything I re-installed iTunes and it worked. I then plugged it in the day after and it wouldn't recognise it was plugged in, it didn't come up in finder or in iTunes. So I re-installed iTunes again, and it worked. I synced up my iPhone twice more and have just gone to sync a 3rd time and AGAIN it is not recognised, and will not show up anywhere on my mac. Do I seriously have to re-install iTunes everytime I want to update songs or anything on my iPhone? I have tried everything that is suggested in forums and on the Apple site, nothing works except un-installing and then re-installing iTunes, but I can't do this everytime! Somebody help please??
    Thankyou greatly.

Hi, this is a problem I'm having too, down to the last detail. I think I've found the solution, I'll see if I can't test it though.
In the past, I deleted 'iTunes Helper' from my LogIn Items...
This fits in with the symptoms, as a fresh launch of iTunes would run that, but then depend on it being in your startup items, unless of course you deleted it. This must be why restarting the computer is a recommended troubleshoot, if the process was stopped for whatever reason restarting woud get it to kick in.
    • Go to  > System Preferences > Accounts
I'm guessing iTunes Helper isn't in the list, if my theory's right on this?
    • Click the plus sign under the list.
What you want to add is part of the contents of the iTunes app, you won't be able to route to it traditionally.
While the File Browsing window is open (the one that dropped down when you clicked the '+'),
    • Press Shift-Command-G
    • In the field that pops up, paste this path:
    /Applications/iTunes.app/Contents/MacOS/iTunesHelper.app
and click 'Ok'. iTunes Helper is now in the list.
    • Tick it
So that it will be on automatically at login.
I've not seen yet if this fixes it for me, but I have STRONG suspiscions considering the role of this app is to detect iPods and iPhones, and because of the particular work-around we've been using matching.
Best of luck to all of us! Here goes....

  • I got an iPad (3) and set it up on my laptop (Windows 7) with my iPhone (4). The iTunes upgrade (before 6) crashed iTunes. I couldn't get iTunes to run again until upgraded to 6. Now nothing will sync. I have a small fraction of my apps. Help, please.

    Just a bit more.
According to my laptop, when I hook up my iPhone, either I hit an error of "user defined breakpoint" or it's having issues recognizing the iPad (when the iPhone is hooked up).
I've also tried installing iTunes on my work computer, but it won't recognize the phone unless I update iTunes. When I try to update, I get errors and iTunes crashes.
I'm worried because I haven't backed up my phone or pad in over 2 months and nothing I'm trying works.
Thanks for any help you can give me.
    Laura

In technical support, sometimes you have to make educated guesses. I'm sorry that you were offended.
iTunes does prompt when it is going to erase a device, and the message is clear.
She said in her message that she was able to successfully sync the old ipad. This indicated to me that itunes wiping the data was not an issue, because either it had been setup at the apple store (in which case it doesn't actually wipe the ipad despite saying it will*) (*based on a single case I saw), or because the itunes media folder was migrated.
Furthermore, my solution was to tell her how to backup her ipad (by either doing it manually, or as a last resort, by deleting the corrupt backup -- that she couldn't access anyway.)
I got that last part of the instructions from the "Taking Control of your iphone" book which I found samples of when I did a google search for "corrupted backup itunes".
She marked this as a solution, so it worked for her.

  • Windows 7 (64) Blue Screen of Death at Start up after installing iTunes 10

I just got a brand new computer a week ago and decided to install iTunes 10 this evening. The install finished successfully and a message prompted me to restart to complete the installation. So I did. Now my machine will not boot. Each time it does, I get a blue screen of death. Attempting to restore the system fails.
I was able to start Windows in Safe Mode once but I wasn't able to uninstall programs while in safe mode so I couldn't remove itunes 10. And now I can no longer start my machine in Safe Mode.
Has anyone else experienced this? Any ideas to solve it?

    Windows 7 64 bit core i7
BSOD while updating to iTunes 10 with suspended installation of Apple Mobile Device Support. Network drivers no longer working as a result. Attempted fix by downloading from a different machine and competing install via files transferred over on flash drive. No dice. Attempted removal of iTunes, QuickTime, Apple Mobile Device Support, Apple Application Support, Apple Software Update to see if this would fix. Followed this up with a restart. This seems to have improved matters as system is starting up faster. No dice. Try reinstall network drivers from Sony ViaoCare disk. Installed and restarted. No dice. Next, try Widows 7 Network and Sharing diagnostics. No dice. Next try manual removal & reinstall of network driver using Device Manager, restart. Can't seem to re-install Network Controller. Still trying to solve this.
