Couldn't locate Synk Engine

My /var/log/system.log file is filled with the following two lines:
Feb 22 11:36:13 myMBP-3 synkd\[46\]: SchedulerRunner is running
Feb 22 11:36:13 myMBP-3 synkd\[46\]: Couldn't locate Synk Engine; scheduled runs will be suspended until Synk is launched to provide an engine
It gets repeated every 5 seconds.
Does anyone know what I'm suppose to do?
Should I just disable synkd?
What does synkd do?

I solved it in this way:

  • Safari couldn't locate Mail

I've been using Apple's Safari and Mail (Leopard versions) as my Internet apps.
    No problems until recently.
For some reason Safari can't find Mail anymore when I try to send a page or link via email.
    It reports:
Safari couldn't create an email message to send the link because it couldn't locate an email application.
Any ideas how to link these two again?
    Thx,
    Marco

    Hi Marco:
First I would run permission repair from your HD. Then I would run repair disk from your software install DVD.
If that does not help, I would trash a couple of preference files and restart (then reenter your personal preferences that differ from the default):
    com.apple.safari.plist
    com.apple.mail.plist

  • I shot an iPhone5 movie, put it in iMOvie (9.0.4) couldn't get it on the desktop, put in in iDVD, couldn't locate the burn button. Foiled?

I shot a video on my iPhone5 (UPSIDE -DOWN!), put it in iMOvie and flipped it (successfully) and couldn't get it onto the desktop to email to someone. My computer told me I had to put into iDVD first in order to burn a DVD of it, so I did (took an hour). Then it said to click on the "burn button (shown below)". Well, there's no burn button that I can find. Plus there's no "Burn CD" option on any of the drop-down menus.

    Hi ccandjs,
Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!
It sounds like what your are really trying to do is export the movie project to your desktop so that you can share it via email. What I would suggest in this situation would be exporting the movie via QuickTime to a location on your computer. Please reference the following article for instructions on how to do so.
iMovie Help: Export a QuickTime file

    Hi B2B Gurus,
While doing the HTTPS configuration in OTC we observed that some of lines were missing in ssl.conf file located at <Oracle_Home>\Apache\Apache\conf. The below mentioned lines are missing in OTC’s ssl.conf but present in OracleB2B’s ssl.conf
Even ssl wallet file location is also missing in OTC ssl.conf file as mentioned below.
Can u please let us know as why these lines are missing or should we manually add these lines when we do HTTPS on OTC ?

  • ITunes can't locate songs in my library.

It took me a while to point iTunes 11.0.2 (26) 64-bit in 10.8.3 to my existing itunes library that is also used by my 10.6.x system.  Once I did though I went to a playlist and clicked on the song and found that even though it updated my library files (Itunes Library and Itunes Library.xml) it did not actually scan the songs in the library because it couldn't locate the song.  I located the song and it asked me if I wanted it to use that info to find other lost songs which I said yes to.  It proceeded to not even find the rest of the songs in the same directory I had pointed it to.  Now I have about 4165 songs missing!  *** iTunes?!?!  I have NO MISSING SONGS under 10.6.x and I'm using the same library files and the  same library structure and everything.  IS there a way to do this other than repointing iTunes to the existing library?  Please help me or I will be forced to write iTunes off.  Which in my opinion is getting easy as the whole program is getting worse and worse from a cpl years ago.
    Thanks in advance.
    Paul

The problem of tracks becoming de-linked between iTunes and the music files in your iTunes music folder happens for different reasons - this seems to come up fairly commonly in this forum.
The solution can be to locate each song in the iTunes library, as you mentioned - or, but wait, before I get to that...
trouble finding the original track in your iTunes music folder? maybe look for it under compilations, or if not using the 'group compilations preference' then look in the folder under the songs artist name, but what song artist name iTunes uses depends on what you have in the metedata tag spot for album artist or song artist. Any varyation in artist name spelling, in the menu item 'get info' metadata for any selected individual track will cause iTunes to create that as a separate artist folder in the library, even names like 'various' or any difference at all (even the word 'the' can change where in your iTunes music folder a track gets placed by iTunes). You can try to use the finder function of find file (finder munu item outside of iTunes) to locate hard to find items.
Back to how to re-link any de-linked tracks .
There may be scripts that can help re-link de-linked music files - or, at least provide you a list of such files, Scripts are easy to install and use...
at Dougs Scripts, there is one called iTunes Track CPR that might work
    http://dougscripts.com/itunes/scripts/ss.php?sp=itunestrackcpr
or, if you just want a list of de-linked tracks, go to
    http://dougscripts.com/itunes/
and find the script called List MIA's, this will create a text file listing all de-linked tracks

  • Lost Mode - useless when Location disabled, even online ?

       Hi,
My iPhone was stolen by a (not so close) friend !
I went last week to a party. Only close and casual friends. At some point we talked and compared some apps between our
phones, I locked/unlocked mine several times, in front of the others, they did the same. However, after some time, everyone of us has been engaged in other activities
At some point I received a call on my other iPhone, and I went outside to be able to understand each other, because it was a pretty loud party ;-)
Anyway, I left my primary iPhone (for business) on the table.
When I came back, surprise, my iPhone was missing. Naturally, I suspected a joke or a prank for one of my closest friends. To not embarrass myself, I just tried to use Find my iPhone and see the state of the missing device.
It was Offline, probably the thief turned it off. I think it was one of us which, when playing around with apps, he saw my LockScreen code when I tapped it to unlock the phone.
I left the party. after a while, I tried again Find my iPhone.
Surprise again ! The iPhone was Online but Location Services Off. I tried to put it in Lost mode, but without phone number and
message, just to locate, not to alarm the thief. Result was the same, "Online. Location Services Off "
After one day, no matter how many times I tried, the thief (probably knowing that I have unlimited plan) continued to use my phone and it appears the same, "Online. No Location Available" (on iCloud, on Web Browser window) and  "Online. Location Services Off" on Find my iPhone app , on my other iPhone.
My business phone was iPhone 4S, with iOS 6.1.6 (last iOS 6 update). I didn't upgraded iOS on this one because I needed a quicker response when I receive important calls or updates, mail documents etc. And, indeed , it worked like a charm !
So not being able to locate and get back my iPhone, I was forced to erase it (at least I hope it was erased OK). As a result, I couldn't locate it anymore.
Thanks God I had nothing compromising, or business sensitive on that phone! I changed, anyway, all my mail passwords, deleted from iCloud all my reminders and notes etc. Good Bye, good old iPhone !
I have to mention again, I have unlimited plan, voice and data traffic, so I was not afraid of higher payments, but I thought I should go to the telephone company and request a detailed list of calls after I lost it, maybe I could find a clue, with police help, of course. But I initially thought and trust it would be a breeze to find my iPhone with iCloud, Find my iPhone, Data Roaming, unlimited data traffic if, eventually, it would be lost.
And I'm absolutely sure I have all of these services active, all my iDevices have the same security settings.
But, to be absolutely sure, I tried the same thing on my other (personal, non business) phone. iPhone 4S, iOS 8.1.1, this time.
So I double-checked all security settings I could and deactivated only Location Services, from Privacy.
Results were absolutely identical ! Even in Lost Mode, my only left iPhone was impossible to be found via iCloud (Web Browser) or from my iPad, no matter how many times and what I tried, after switching off Location Services (again, GSM/3G/Cellular/EU Internet - active - unlimited data plan), Data Roaming On, WIFI On, only Location Services disabled from Privacy settings.
( My only big mistake, I think, was to reveal and use my Lockscreen code in front of my friends. But I thought we are all friends, why wouldn't ?)
I tried even to put my iPhone outside to have a clear view to satellites for GPS. No change !
And a major issue (or forgotten maybe, extremely simple feature) is still to not being able to change Lock screen
code/Password, once it was set already no matter what iOS is installed (6-7-8...)
So, the big Question remains the same. What is the (REAL) utility of Find my iPhone app/Service, when, just switching
off Location Services, even Lost Mode can't remotely enable it ?  Contrary to what Apple claims.
What should I do in the future to avoid a similar situation ? What I missed/messed ?
Please help me to understand, anyone who can help me and really knows what he/she's talking about. I'm sick of suppositions, and neverending questions/ideas off topic.
      Thank you !
Below are some pictures taken during testing Lost Mode on my only (now) iPhone:
Started "Find my iPhone" on Web Browser, I switched off Location Services on my iPhone :
Until now, everything's OK, as expected.
As advertised, Lost Mode rest assures us that will enable (temporary) Location Services, until unlocking:
To be sure it's a working data link, I tested "Play Sound", worked OK, then entered a number and message for testing purpose
    Starting/activating Lost Mode...
Lost Mode activated with success, Location Services not. Still, my iPhone locked and displays 1234 call
and the message "This iPhone has been lost. Please call me".
I even put my iPhone outside, under clear sky, for 15 minutes, still nothing new on iCloud.
Of course, after unlocking my phone (Lost mode deactivated automatically), but still nothing (normal, in this case, without Lost Mode) and turning back ON Location Services, my iPhone was magically found . I even received a notice on mail, claiming my iPhone was found near my actual position
Here are my screenshots with my iPhone with all data services on, being locked on purpose.
So, what's wrong with Lost Mode, why it doesn't do what it should ? What I'm doing wrong ??
Please help me understand. Thank you !
P.S. I found yesterday that my phone was bought by someone identified by the police. They asked me what I want to do. I asked buyer's name, it's nobody I know, I let him in peace, no further complains. I moved on...     but disappointed by claimed features in iPhone (regardless iOS 6-8) which are not working at all
    (at least for me)...
P.P.S I had to remove some pictures (warned when trying to post - to many images)

    It shouldn't work like that.
Apple says contrary, even when you press Lost Mode, the following message appears :
"Lost mode enables Location Services. Find my iPhone and other apps will be able tu use the location of this iPhone until it's unlocked".
Pretty clear to me and tested but No Location detected by Find my iPhone/iCloud. At the other hand, if you looked at the pictures I posted, you'll see on my testing iPhone the little arrow which indicates the Location Services were started in Lost Mode. Just not detected in iCloud/Find my iPhone/Lost Mode. So, useless or not functioning properly (at all, in fact). Why ?
And, from the Apple support page (the link is below)
"If your device is online when you put it in Lost Mode or lock it, it locks and tracking begins (if applicable). If Location Services is turned off on the device, it’s temporarily turned on to track your device’s location."
    iCloud: Use Lost Mode
And they claims the same for ALL iOS last versions since iOS 6 (since they introduced Lost Mode)
And yes, my phone which I still have, and the lost one, were both Online, so it could transmit location data, during Lost Mode, just it doesn't happens.

  • Can't locate fiiles with Itunes 9.0.1.8 then after 30minute period can.

My library said it couldn't locate the music putting the ! point on a bunch. I re-added the folder and it created duplicates for every file. Then I sorted by added date and deleted all the files I just added. 30 minutes later all the files could be located. Next I came back to the itunes library after lunch, came out of hibernation and same thing all the tunes could not be located. 30 minutes later all the files could be located again.
Any similar experience and if so any solutions? Thanks, cc

No these are all on the HD. Maybe I will check my system hibernation stats and play with that. If the HD was asleep after X amount of time that may explain it. Thanks, Chris

  • Can't locate .properties file on Visual Admin

    Hello,
I have created an RID.properties file inside a DynPro application under src/packages/... and I am able to load it and get it's attributes from the DynPro code.
    So far so good...
As far as I know this properties file can be viewd and modifed on the Visual Admin under:
    Configuration Adapter -> webdynpro...
I've browsed all the folders at this location and couldn't locate my .properties file. So where is it...?
    Roy

i think you only want to access and maintain the properties on server side...
    ok, check out
    http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04/helpdata/en/b8/aa343e32ff1033e10000000a114084/content.htm
for an example how to access the properties from your wdp app.
i suggest loading all props into a specific context node and corresponding attributes. perhaps there are better ways.
    Now sth. uncomfortable:
Be careful when you redeploy your app. All properties are overwritten with the ones you defined locally.
you also cant delete the config on local side, it would be deleted on server, too. (at least i think so)

  • Wireless not working - can't locate servers on more than one network

I am having a really strange problem with my wireless on my iBook that I'm hoping someone out there has had before, or has ideas for fixing.
This began a few days ago. My computer could get on wireless networks, but when I tried to use my web browser, it couldn't locate any servers. I at first suspected it was the network that I was using that was the problem, but I've since gone to several cafes and my university to try to use their internet. I get this problem about 50% of the time, despite the fact that others are using the same networks with no problems. Sometimes a network will work on and off (ie it will work fine at first, then not be able to locate servers) and sometimes they never work at all.
I'm wondering if there's any kind of reinstallation or resetting of settings that I can do short of reinstalling OS X (or if a reinstall would even work). Does anyone have a suggestion for me? Again, I have already determined that it's not the networks I'm using that are the problem (and I don't have my own internet, and can't go fiddling with router settings at the cafes around me!).
    iBook G4   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

JerryMc, Welcome to the discussion area!
Is the AirPort Express (AX) the only router you have? If so, you need to make sure that it is configured to "share a single IP address".

  • Foursquare can't locate me on Nokia Asha 300

I've recently been trying to access Foursquare and it couldn't locate me. I last used it on 28th December last year, so not too long ago really. I recently installed an updated version of Foursquare and it still can't locate me, it keeps putting me in Helsinki when I'm in the UK! I've only had this phone for 18 months, googlemaps can find me so it can't be the GPS. Anyone else have this problem?

@Siobhan79 Hi. Welcome to the Nokia Support Discussions.
Do you have a stable internet connection? Is this happening regardless of your location? Do you have the same behavior when using the built-in Maps application on the phone? Have you tried to un-install & re-install the app? if yes and still the same, try to contact the app developer: http://store.ovi.com/content/113247?clickSource=search&pos=1.

  • Custom filename in place of default filename from App Engine

    Hi All
I am wondering if it is possible to generate output files from AE/SQR/Crystal with custom names rather than the default names as ProcessName_ProcessInstance?
I am aware that this can be acieved in SQRs as we set the filenames in most of the cases, but I need to check this for AE & Crystal processes.
I have a crystal that creates a bill in pdf format. The pdf bill file is created with name as ProcessName_ProcessInstance. I am exploring if it is possible to create a pdf billfile with name as BillId_Date or as PI_BillId or ProcessName_PI_Bill_Id.
I googled and searched in PeopleBooks but couldn't locate anything that could say if it is possible or not? If possible, how we can achieve it.
    Regards
    Vishal Mahajan

For AE, have you tried changing the override paramenters in process definition. you can probably use the OT, OF and FP flags to achive this.
See bleow. from 8.50 tools PeopleBooks:
    -OT
(Optional) Initialize the PeopleCode meta-variable %OutDestType (numeric).
    PeopleCode example of %OutDestType:
    &ProcessRqst.OutDestType = %OutDestType ;
    -OF
(Optional) Initialize the PeopleCode meta-variable %OutDestFormat (numeric).
    PeopleCode example of %OutDestFormat:
    Query.RunToFile(Record QryPromptRecord, %OutDestFormat);
    -FP
(Optional) Initialize the PeopleCode meta-variable %FilePath (string).
    PeopleCode example of %FilePath:
    If All(%FilePath) Then
    &FILENAME = %FilePath | &FILENAME;
    &MYFILE = GetFile(&FILENAME, "E", %FilePath_Absolute);
    Else
    &MYFILE = GetFile(&FILENAME, "E", %FilePath_Relative);
    End-If;

  • Photos- best way to locate and manage (Help!)

I moved to a Mac Pro with the idea that it would be a great computer and help me manage my tens of thousands of photos.  I tried to import my photos from an external drive and it failed multiple times.  I started using iPhoto and Picasa to manage new photos taken but when I went to send some to my family I couldn't find the ones I imported into iPhoto.  After a lot of trouble I realized iPhoto hides the files from you. So I think I exported them all and then I think maybe I found them and moved them to my master repository but then I found thousands of files in the trashcan that I couldn't locate either on my MAC or my external drive. I have no idea what is going on but I'm now very concerned that I've lost photos. I really resent iPhotos heavy handedness in photo management and thus don't want to move to it anymore- I might go back to a PC after this laptop because i can't find files in general and I think the learning curve is too great for me.  So my questions are:
    1. What is the best way to manage photos in the interim, while I still have a  MAC but the bulk of my photos are on an external drive?  Will the MAC let me save future pix directly to the external drive? Or should I do all photos through a PC
    2. Is there any way to expose the iPhoto files in finder?
    3. Has anyone use Picasa with success on a MAC? Am I right in thinking it only stores local photos if you edit them in Picasa? I am having a lot of trouble FINDING photos in Picasa- esp ones imported from my iPhone. It's nice that the mac imports "new" iPhone photos but I can't find them again so that is not so nice.
    4. Is there a duplicate detector people recommend? I have made a royal mess of my external hard drive of data as well as this MAC trying to import, find and recover pictures and data.
I am extremely frustrated and i would appreciate any help.  I don't have a ton of time since I work full time and have three kids and I basically have done no photo sharing or editing in the 6 months I have had a mac because it's too confusing.
    Amy

That's exactly the sort of crafty workaround I like. I didn't know they were all tagged, but that would definitely work. I'd still love a dedicated app that did it really well, or more love given to that side of things in iPhoto. iMovie is too hefty for just managing them.
Is iPhoto properly built to handle management of iPhone video, by the way? I didn't want to use it because it didn't seem like it was, and also because I sync my iPhoto library with Dropbox and video would more than treble the size of the library so I manage it from the Finder mostly, importing clips to iMovie if I do want to edit something (rarely).

  • IPod Touch location service doesnt work at all.

Hi guys, just having this issue, I have my iPod touch since 8 months ago, It worked fine, perfect. I upgrade it to iOS 5 and it worked fine, it was perfect.
But today the location service doesnt work, I triend with the google maps app, the Facebook and Twitter app and the location icon doesnt even appear in the screan, so I restart it and then I restore all the network configuration and the location warings, but the location service doesnt work.
I also tried to use Find my iPod on icloud.com but it says that couldn't locate it.
    Any idea?
    Thanks!

Hi Philly_Phan, Thanks for your help,
Today I went to my college and guess what? the location service was working perfectly again, but when I get home it didn't work, I was thinking about this:
I know iPod doesnt have a GPS, it use WiFi to find where you are, but, a week ago it was working fine at home, now it doesnt, the funny thing is that even if the iPod can not locate you, it should show the little location icon on the top of the screen. Dont you?
I mean, even if the iDevice can't find any know hotspot near, it should show the little icon. So, does the ipod connect to any server somewhere arround the world? or use any special port that maybe my router/ISP is blocking?
    Any idea?
    Thanks sooooo much!

  • Is there a way to get iTunes to find tracks it can't locate on its own?

I have my iTunes music folder on an external drive, and my computer, for some reason, couldn't locate the songs on there for a few days. Now, it's back to normal, but many of the tracks have the little exclamation mark next to them, and when I try to play them, the computer tells me the original track could not be found, and asks if I'd like to locate it. If I search, I can easily find the track, but is there a way to have iTunes locate the tracks on its own?
    Thanks!
    Saul

Not that I know of. It's a pain.
Make sure you always have your exHD operational before you start iTunes, or this can happen.
