Counter Externally - MEASUREM_DOCUM_RFC_SINGLE_001

Hi Experts,
I'm creating a Measurement Document via MEASUREM_DOCUM_RFC_SINGLE_001. Does any know how to set the "total counter reading externally" ?
IMRG-TOTEX.
Thanks a lot!
Salem

Hi Sebastian,
description for exception VALUE_UNFIT is "Counter reading does not suit monotone development". This means for example that a counter value is greater than before, but the counter values are descending in general. Also the opposite might occur: a counter value is less than before, but the counter values are ascending in general.
Best regards,

  • Counting external clock

    Hi,
i have an optical mouse connected with a vi that i could see the data and the external clock of the mouse..
the problem is that i want to know or measure  the  real time which the external clock create each pulse..
i thought to get a counter which measure any dig pulse  send by the mouse..
but can i get and the time with counters?
    andrikos

    Hi,
    Your question was :
i want to know in real time,, when the external clock create the pulses..
You can use counters to find when the external clock is generating pulses.  It looks like you have connected to an analog input right now.  You could essentially do some kind of software analysis but it would not be accurate.  Using the counters you can measure all the pulses and when they occurred.  Are you using the DAQmx driver for this application?  If you are using LabVIEW for this application I can point you to an example that achieves something similar to this.  In the LabVIEW environment, click on Help >> Find Examples.  In the example finder window, select Hardware Input and Output and then select DAQmx >> Counter Measurements >> Count Digital Events.  There are a few examples in this folder that can show you how to make counter measurements.
There are also examples of counting pulse width etc., if that is something that you might want to do.
    Hope that helps.

  • Eyedropper not working in index color on Mac

I recently changed from MAC 9.1 and photoshop 7 to a 24" IMAC and photoshop CS3. I have 3 gig ram -- operating system 10.4.10. I can't get the eyedropper to work in index color in CS3. I've talked with someone else who has a PC and it is working on the PC. I called Adobe and it is working on their PC's too. I went to the Apple Store and it isn't working on their MAC. So I am assuming either the eyedropper isn't working on the MAC or I don't know how to get it to work in CS3.
Can someone please help -- thanks.

    Carol,
That was indeed helpful, Carol. Thank you.
I printed out your post and followed the steps you outline.
The eyedropper in the Color Table works just as expected on my computer. (See specs below)
Just to make sure, I opened the Help viewer and followed the instructions therein:
Color / Converting between color modes
    Customize indexed color tables
The Color Table command lets you make changes to the color table of an indexed-color image. These customization features are particularly useful with pseudocolor imagesimages displaying variations in gray levels with color rather than shades of gray, often used in scientific and medical applications. However, customizing the color table can also produce special effects with indexed-color images that have a limited number of colors.
Note: To shift colors simply in a pseudocolor image, choose Image > Adjustments, and use the color adjustment commands in the submenu.
Edit colors and assign transparency with a color table
You can edit colors in the color table to produce special effects, or assign transparency in the image to a single color in the table.
    Open the indexed-color image.
Choose Image > Mode > Color Table.
To change a single color, click the color and choose a new color in the color picker.
To change a range of colors, drag in the table to choose the range of colors you want to change. In the color picker, choose the first color you want in the range and click OK. When the color picker redisplays, choose the last color you want in the range and click OK.
The colors you selected in the Color Picker are placed in the range you selected in the Color Table dialog box.
To assign transparency to a color, select the Eyedropper tool in the Color Table dialog box, and click the color in the table or in the image. The sampled color is replaced with transparency in the image.
Click OK in the Color Table dialog box to apply the new colors to the indexed-color image.
    Choose a predefined color table
    Open the indexed-color image.
    Do one of the following:
Choose Image > Mode > Color Table.
Choose Image > Mode > Indexed Color. In the Indexed Color dialog box, choose Custom from the Palette menu. This opens the Color Table dialog box.
In the Color Table dialog box, choose a predefined table from the Table menu.
    Custom
    Creates a palette you specify.
    Black Body
Displays a palette based on the different colors a black body radiator emits as it is heatedfrom black to red, orange, yellow, and white.
    Grayscale
Displays a palette based on 256 levels of grayfrom black to white.
    Spectrum
Displays a palette based on the colors produced as white light passes through a prismfrom violet, blue, and green to yellow, orange, and red.
    System (Mac OS)
Displays the standard Mac OS 256-color system palette.
    System (Windows)
Displays the standard Windows 256-color system palette.
    Save and load color tables
You use the Save and Load buttons in the Color Table dialog box to save your indexed color tables for use with other Adobe Photoshop images. After you load a color table into an image, the colors in the image change to reflect the color positions they reference in the new color table.
Note: You can also load saved color tables into the Swatches palette.
Since all of the above worked as expected, I would conclude that it is a bug that is not affecting PowerPC (pre-Intel) Macs. :(

  • Upgrading OSX to add longevity to machine

Hi, I've got a Mirror Door G4, and whilst it would be nice to have the latest Intel Mac Pro this is not a financial option. I am however trying to improve on what I've got to add longevity to the machine.
I've just put in 4x 512MB memory to bring it upto 2GB, the max for this machine and just put in a 500GB WD HD.
I use it for graphics and have Adobe CS1, I would like to upgrade to CS3 or 4, but undersatnd it won't run on OS X 10.3.9 which I have, will my machine take 10.5 happily? I've read 10.6 will be for Intel Mac only so this could be my last chance to bring it up to date.
My plan would be to install the new OS on the new 500GB HD, then load my software and finally move my files from my current 80GB then reformat this and use it elsewhere.... back up music or whatever!
I also quite fancy dabbling in a bit of amature Video - nothing more than iDVD and editing family camcorder stuff. To do so I will also need to put in a DVD writer as I currently only have a CD writer, but I'm comfortable doing that.
If I can get another few years out of it I'll be quite happy!

Your machine, as well as CS, CS2, CS3 and CS4, will run fine with Tiger. Mine does. Even Photoshop 7.0.1 runs well.
If you do upgrade to Leopard (I would definitely NOT recommend it), forget about any version earlier than CS3. They are not supported by Adobe under Leopard and have many incompatibilities with Leopard. Even CS4 has difficulties under Leopard, as it does not support Spaces. In this latter regard, Adobe simply tells you to +"contact Apple" to complain+.
What has helped me a lot is permanently disabling Spotlight and Dashboard.
I practically live in Photoshop. Disabling Spotlight and Dashboard permanently has helped a lot.

  • Raw and TIFF Thumbnails Not Showing in Bridge CS4

    Hi,
I just bought Photoshop CS4 and installed.  I got an installation error and had to remove and reinstall CS4 (and ran the Mac Cleanup Utility in between).  Then, CS4 installed successfully.
Now, when I fire up Bridge CS4, I can preview JPG files, but not TIFF or RAW (*.NEF format from my D200) files.
Has this happened to anyone else and is there a fix I can apply?  I have installed known updates for CS4 and have purged the cache.
I have tried searching adobe and the online communities for this issue, but haven't been able to locate it.  The problem also applies to *.PSD documents.  I have also tried Tools>Cache>Purge Cach for Folder xxx and this doesn't fix things.
Thanks in advance for your advice!!!

    OK, I'm back already.
The bug was easily and instantly reproduced just as I wrote earlier:
With one of the lines under the thumbnails (thumbnail view in
Bridge) set to date created, and the other three to Date Modified,
Pixel Dimensions and Color Profile, respectively. I then invoked the
Global Purge cache command in Bridge CS4. Poof! The date created line
under each and every thumbnail is now blank. The space for the line is there, but it's totally empty,
    blank. >:(
    Invoking
Tools > Cache > Build and Export Cache > for all folders and subfolders restores the data in the blanked lines wiped out by the global Purge Cache command in Bridge preferences.
Thank goodness I had disconnected the FW drives.
I then went again and repeated the procedure one more time. The
Date Created line was again immediately left blank under all
    thumbnails.
    As far as I'm concerned,
the Global Purge cache command in Bridge Preferences in CS4 is broken
, just as it was in CS3 at least until someone tells me how to stop this from happening, reliably and consistently.

  • Photoshop CS4 is unbelievably slow. Downgrade me please.

I'm running Photoshop CS4 on a 2.6 MacBook Pro with 4 Gig of RAM. Everything on this machine runs beautifully, and I rarely, if ever, experience enough lag in any app to become frustrated.
Photoshop CS4 is the only exception.
    Extremely frustrating problems include:
up to 10 second pause before refresh when zooming in and out.
5 to 20 second pauses when selecting/deselecting layers.
stuttering and crippling lag when dragging an image around, especially when zoomed in.
    unresponsive reactions to layer nudging.
anywhere from 10 second to 5 minute (not an exaggeration) pause while saving for web, accompanied by frequent crashes.
all of the above problems are completely random and not consistently reproduceable, though they occur very regularly.
As a professional designer, I've been used to ignoring Photoshop CS3 and concentrating on the work I was doing. This is exactly how a good tool should function. With Photoshop CS4 I spend far more time frustrated and conscious of the unresponsive & clumsy tool than I do paying attention to what I'm trying to do. Apart from being constantly and unbelievably frustrating, it's costing me time, and therefore money, and affecting the quality of my work.
If anyone from Adobe is paying attention here, you should be very worried. I have spent a great deal of energy lately wishing for an alternative to Photoshop. Having customers whose loyalty is based on nothing more than a lack of viable alternatives is a perfect opportunity for a competitor to drink your milkshake, and earn the gratitude of customers like myself. You, the creators of the Quark killer InDesign, should know that very well.
The first Photoshop CS4 update, 11.0.1, solved none of my problems. As a customer who bought CS4 new, and not as an upgrade, I don't have the option of downgrading to CS3, although I would dearly love to. Providing me with a free downgrade wouldn't really solve my problem – Photoshop CS4 would still be painfully slow – but at least I could work in peace again.
    How about it Adobe?
Are you a designer using Photoshop CS4? Tell me about your experiences here:

You can in fact get your money back from Adobe during the first 30 days after buying the software.
Unfortunately, I'm not in a position to comment on the performance of CS4 or any other software on a laptop, but what I can tell you is that CS4 runs very fast and smoothly on my lowly, older machine.

  • Live links in PDFs generated from Microsoft Word 2008?

A couple of years ago, I was informed that my live links (bookmarks, indexmarks, etc.) in documents generated by Microsoft Word 2004 for the Macintosh did not become PDF live links in Acrobat Standard 7 because the Mac version from Microsoft Word 2004 didn't use the necessary hooks (
    i "APIs"
or something like that) even though the Windows version did.
Now that MS Word/MS Office 2008 for the Mac is coming out, will we be able to generate PDFs with such live links.
Any input will be most appreciated.
Acrobat Standard 7.0.9. Tiger 10.4.11. Dual bootable, DP MDD 1.25GHz G4 (2004), maxed out at 2GB of RAM, both Spotlight and Dashboard disabled, Photoshop primary scratch disk on dedicated 160GB internal drive, at least 100GB available on each of the four internal drives, up to 300GB on some. While this does not answer the problem of live links. (You can create them Manually, they just are not generated direct from Office Mac).
The answer to the other question of the little annoying PDFMaker Menu (that never really worked correctly for me (took 5 minutes just to generate a 108K PDF).
Because MicroSoft took out VBA Support on Mac side That rendered the PDFMaker menu useless because it uses VBA to work.
So what they have done in Word 2008 is actually put it as Translator choice on the save menu. They now directly can save Word Files directly as PDF files. once you have created your file and saved it. Then go again to *Save As....* , when menu open scroll mouse down until you run across the choice PDF. select that and save. not only is it easier a 108K document can be saved in about 15 seconds or less not the old 5 minutes going through PDFMaker.
One of PDFMaker's failings was that each step of conversion it called up Distiller which first created a .PS file. Then it checked the file. Then created the PDF file. Then checked the file again before actually writing the PDF File. Then only after checking the written PDF, would it delete the invisible PS file. Finally the PDF file was created. Naturally with all the check steps if you have a very large file could take ages.
With word's new feature (2008) you can generate a PDF at blinding speeds.

  • Bridge colours different to ACR colours

    Hi
I have read a few similar posts to this but they were not exactly the same issue I could find. If I am wrong I am sorry.
For me, bridge is showing thumbs & previews (and slideshows) that are right (ie. contrast, saturation is good etc), however, when you open an image in the Raw dialogue it is flat and lacking contrast / saturation as a whole.
I am pretty sure that if i boost saturation etc in raw dialogue then it shows in bride as over done. ANy ideas on this to check
    Thanx in advance

    >the spurious previews
Just to double check this with ACR 4.3.1, I changed the Bridge 2.1.1.9 prefs setting to HQ previews, quit and relaunched Bridge and used the Tools menu to purge the cache for a single folder containing only 18 images. As soon as the cache rebuilt,
WHAM! I had three spurious thumbnails and previews in the folder. >:(
Changed the Bridge 2.1.1.9 prefs setting to

  • Win SDK function conflict with CVI library function

I do not have  SDK_CONFLICT_PRIORITY defined.  Is this new to CVI 2009?
The following code gives me an error  "11, 58   Too many arguments to `CVI_WriteFile'."
    #include <windows.h>

I have included  <windows.h>   before   <formatio.h>  but CVI still wants to use the formatio version of WriteFile - it appears to have been renamed   CVI_WriteFile  ?!?!?
If I eliminate the #include <formatio.h>  it compiles OK.
Message Edited by menchar on 03-06-2010 04:00 PM

Well, the complete source for formatio.h I reported before is this one:
    #ifdef _NI_mswin32_
    extern int CVIFUNC      cviprefix(CloseFile)(int handle);
    extern int CVIFUNC      cviprefix(OpenFile)(const char *filename,int rd_wrt, int action, int bin_ascii);
    extern int CVIFUNC      cviprefix(ReadFile)(int handle, char *buf, int count);
    extern int CVIFUNC      cviprefix(WriteFile)(int handle, const char *buf, int count);
    extern int CVIFUNC      cviprefix(SetCommitMode)(int commit);
    #define CloseFile       cviprefix(CloseFile)
    #define OpenFile        cviprefix(OpenFile)
    #define ReadFile        cviprefix(ReadFile)
    #define WriteFile       cviprefix(WriteFile)
    #define SetCommitMode   cviprefix(SetCommitMode)
    #else
In the header this warning is present:
/* This header must be included after any Windows SDK header or any header */
/* that directly or indirectly includes a Windows SDK header.              */
/* Some of the function names conflict with Windows SDK functions.         */
As far as I can understand (but I'm not an expert on these very technical and tricky aspects of C) first of all CVI functions are renamed CVI_xxx, after it a call to WriteFile or any other function in that group is defined to be translated to CVI_WriteFile, so when you call WriteFile the preprocessor actually translates it in the CVI version of the function and SDK one is superseded.
My understandment is that if you undefine WriteFile, you can actually use both functions if you want: native CVI one by calling CVI_WriteFile and SDK one by simply calling WriteFile.
...or I can be missing some other hint, which can surely be possible!
Proud to use LW/CVI from 3.1 on.

  • Ni 9401

Ok, I have (4) rotary encoders (1600pulses/reve) each.  I also have (2) Ni 9401's mounted in slots 5 and 6 of my C-Daq chassis.  I followed the quadrature encoder measurements: How to guide with no positive results.  I've set up a variety of tasks in MAX (count edges, frequency measure, angular postion, etc) All I really want to do is measure the angular velocity of each of the encoders.  At most I should see around 3M encoder pulses per second when the machine the encoders are mounted to is running.
When attempting to count rising edges (on one encoder) I set up a  count edges task in MAX when I run the task and I rotate the encoder REALLY slow for 1 revolution I can get ~1600 pulses.  If I rotate the encoder fast I get a different and lower value.  Also if I rotate in a CCW direction I get one value but the CW direction will yield a diffent count result.  I am at a loss here.  I've acquired the A and B encoder signals with analog outputs and they are indeed square waves 90degrees out of phase.
A couple other things.  I've noticed that I cannot create a task that will incorportate all 4 encoders.  Also, I was referencing the 100kHz time base initially, but the timebase cannot be used by multiple counters simultaneously.  Attempts to use the 20MHz timebase have failed.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.  This was supposed to be a quick job and has taken alot longer than anticipated.

Thanks for the link to the spec sheet.  I'm still a little confused
about the way you are acquiring the signal.  The 9205 has an aggregate
sample rate of 250kHz--if you are reading both A and B inputs at the
same time that would be 125kHz/ch.  To accurately characterize a square
wave you should be sampling well above Nyquist.  At what rate does the
    counter begin to miss pulses?
    I am still leaning
towards this being a signal integrity issue--the counters on the 9172
can count edges reliably at up to 20 MHz.  I would be interested to
know more about the cabling/shielding involved.  Are you following the
recommended connection diagram (shown below) from the RE22 specifications?
The cDAQ-9172 product page mentions that the chassis has two counters in the Overview section--more information can be found in the 9172 User Guide and Specifications
(the counters section starts on page 40).  If you let me know which
documentation gave the impression that the 9172 posesses 4 counters I
    can look into correcting it.
Also, I think I might not have been clear about the 20 MHz clock.  You cannot use this as a timebase to sample the
count register--as mentioned before this would require a data rate not
possible using USB 2.0 (I don't think you really want to acquire 640
Mbit/s per counter anyway).  The count register itself updates based
off of an 80 MHz internal timebase and will count external signals at
up to 20 MHz.  The sample clock is just the rate that you read data
from the count register, and does not affect how quickly the register
    can count edges.
A 3 MHz square wave should be well
within spec for the counters aboard the 9172.  The speeds you are
talking about are not absurd for counting operations.  The fact that
    you followed the devzone article
leads me to believe that you have the channels set up right.  I would
double-check your wiring and make sure to follow the recommended
    termination procedure mentioned above.

  • Regarding reorder point planning.

    Hi experts,
I have entered safety stock as 40 pcs., reorder point 50 and created requirement for

In Consumption based planning(re-order point planning), planned independent requirements or dependent requirement will not be considered in the net requirements calculation. Instead, it is triggered when stock levels fall below a predefined reorder point .So, all the planned independent or dependent requirements in a certain period of time should have been considered before setting the reorder point
Therefore, these planning procedures are used in areas  for planning both B- and C-parts and operating supplies.(low value materials, but consumption is more)
In reorder point planning, SAP checks whether the available stocks are below the reorder point that has been set for the material. If they are, SAP will create procurement proposal.
We can determine the reorder point manually (u201CVB-Manual reorder point planningu201D MRP Type in standard SAP R/3) or, it can also be calculated automatically using the material forecast (u201CVM-Automatic reorder point planningu201D MRP Type in standard SAP R/3).
In standard SAP R/3 system, besides u201CVB u2013 Manual Reorder Pointu201D and u201CVM u2013 Automatic Reorder Pointu201D MRP Types, there are also other MRP Types that have reorder point as its basis to calculate requirement with additional procedure which count external requirement (sales order and manual reservation) as a requirement. The MRP Type are: u201CV1-Manual reorder point with external requirementsu201D and u201CV2-Automatic reorder point with external requirementsu201D.
If you want to include requirements in the reorder point calculation in addition to the customer requirements and manual reservations,
go to SPRO ->Materials management ->consumption based planning ->master data -> MRP Types
Select the mrp type v1 and
    select the following fields:
o     Requirements for materials to be provided in subcontracting
o     Dependent order reservations on the basis of production orders
o     Dependent order reservations on the basis of maintenance orders or networks
    o     Release orders
    o     Purchase requisition releases
    o     Forecast delivery schedules

  • Changing the sorting in the Icon view

This has been giving me a headache since I upgraded to Lion since it was released. I deal with very large numbers of files of various types and since OS X first was released it was easy for you to sort items in a folder by type however with Lion Apple dropped the ball on this. In the Icon View it is foolish not to have the folders listed first in the sort or arrange order. If you have folders that have folders in them to help separate large projects it used to be simple to navigate but now Apple has made this simple navigation task a total pain. Since you have to scroll down to get to the sub folder and heaven help you if you have to do this several times. There is no good reason not to allow the user to change the sort order. A simple search shows I am not alone in this and Apple has yet to respond this problem.
We are up to version .3 on lion and this still is a nightmare. I understand and agree with the strategy to make iOS and OS X to be similar for the novice user but to do so by sacrificing the functionality of OS X is well stupid. If I wanted an iPad I would have bought one  not a Mac Pro and a MacBook Pro to work on. You cant run the programs I use a super sized iPhone. Till you can please don’t cripple OS X. It can't be a huge task to allow the user in the icon view to chose ascending or descending order and lock that choice in. Also have it automatically adjust the arrangement if you resize the window so you dont have to scroll side ways only up or down.
Finder worked like this since I switched to Mac's back in 2002. I have been very happy with OS X and Apple till this change. This is not a small issue for me. I have counting external and internal drives totaling 14 TB's of storage and add about 1 TB a month with the projects I now have. I hope this gets fixed soon it has me worried that Apple is solely catering to the iPad and iPhone users. I didn't spend nearly 10K$ for a new workstation and laptop to have it function like an iPad.
For the record I do like the iPad but you can't run Photoshop, MS Office, Poser or CAD programs on an iPad and if you could it would take it weeks to do some of the tasks that a dual quad core can do in minutes.
There are ways to bring back many functions that were changed in Lion such as hiding the scroll bar or reversing the scrolling direction why not retain the sort options that your customers have been using for years? This small change reduces productivity and thus reducing my profit margins and not to mention increasing aggravation.

I actually didn't read your whole dissertation, but if you want to know about sorting in the Finder, then this is how it works:
There are two modes of organizing the layout of the items in the Finder. There is an Arrangement which is grouping similar characteristics together. Then, there is sorting which sorts the items by some criteria, like name, date, etc.
The Arrangement and Sorting functions are both in the same menu item or button on the toolbar. Arrangement is primary, and Sorting is secondary. You can get to the Sorting options by holding down the option key and clicking on the button or menu option.
You can have both an Arrangement and a Sort, depending on the Arrangement chosen.  Arranging by Name or Date doesn't offer any other sorting options. Arranging by Kind, or Application, or Label will allow you to sort each group by some criteria chosen from the Sort options.
If you Arrange by None, you can sort by any of the other criteria.
I have run into a bug where you can choose the sort order once arranged. You can usually reverse the sort order by going into List View, arrange by None, and set the sort direction in the column headers.

  • CS4 on PowerPC (non-intel) macs

I'm still hanging on to a G5 that's serving me well, but I need to make the jump from CS2 to CS4. Al though I will obviously upgrade the machine sooner rather than later, are there any serious drawbacks to running CS4 on a PowerPC machine?

    Nick,
CS4 runs very, very well even on my officially not-supported G4, even the OpenGL features.
Counting external FW drives just over 1TB of drive space available.  nVidia GeForce 7800 GS 425MHz 256 MB "mutant" flashed graphics display card. Processor napping enabled through CHUD 3.5.2.  Photoshop 11.0.1, Tiger 10.4.11.

  • I really goofed and downloaded ACR 5.0 using CS3

I screwed up and didn't read where ACR 5.0 was only for CS4 and downloaded it. Now I don't have Camera Raw anymore. I can't remember what version I used to have. I know I got a new version when I got a Canon MKIII. I went ahead and downloaded 4.4.0 that I had saved in a folder, but it won't work at all. I deleted the 5.0 from my file format folder, but it still shows up in the "About Plug Ins" drop down along with the 4.4.0 version. How can I get rid of it in the drop down? Obviously CS3 thinks I don't have Camera Raw anymore.
Can someone please help? I seriously need ACR and I know I made a huge mistake here by not reading first. ugh
    Thanks..

    >You can only have ONE copy of ACR installed.
That is meant to be understood as
"you can only have ONE copy of ACR installed
in a given version of Photoshop
I have Photoshop 7.0.1, 8, 9.0.2 and 10.0.1 installed on my Mac (where I can even launch two or more versions of Photoshop running simultaneously, just by launching the older version first and providing different scratch disk drives for each), each one of the last three with its corresponding version of ACR, namely
2.4, 3.7 and 4.6, installed. [ACR 1.x didn't support my cameras, so I never bought that optional plug-in.]
No problems of any kind whatsoever.

  • My Mac locks up - can't understand why

Been having issues with my home Mac as of late (dual 2.3Ghz processor, pre-Intel age, running OS 10.4.11). I had been having some instances lately where it started "locking up," and the fan would slowly start to spin until it got really loud. The first time this occurred, I was watching YouTube in both Safari and Firefox simultaneously. So I had to hard restart my Mac over and over again, because every time it came back on, within 10 minutes it'd lock up again (loud fan too). This all happened around the same time that some of my firewire drives started having problems mounting. This prompted me to test the external drives on another Mac. Initial diagnosis: my firewire bus was busted (probably induced by a power surge), because the drives were mounting perfectly on other Macs. So I purchased a firewire card.
As the firewire card was in transit, the freezing continued... so I freaked out, and ran Norton Antivirus. But it came back clean. So then I figured... well, let me repair permissions on the system drive. This apparently cleared some "Shockwave player" conflicts that had popped up. And aha!!... the freezing went away for a few weeks... until two nights ago. I had purchased extra RAM alongside the firewire card, and felt confident running Safari alongside Skype, and iTunes... bad idea. Freezing came back, and brought his buddy Loud Fan along with him. Even when I'd run Quicktime, Compressor, etc. Nothing but freeze within 10-20 minutes.
So... here's what I did to troubleshoot the problem:
    - Installed OS on the second internal drive, so I could rebuild the main system drive using Disk Warrior (v. 4.2)
    - 33% of the system drives' directories were out of order, so I rebuilt the system drive.
    - Rebooted to the main system drive and rebuilt the spare drive, same result (clean directory structure).
    - Repaired permissions (using Disk Utility) on both drives.
    - Even used Cocktail to repair permissions.
The freezing 'seemed' to go away, but last night I was transferring something large (over 1 GB) to a friend via YOUSENDIT.COM (in Safari). Woke up this morning to another loud fan and locked computer. Short of performing a clean reinstall of the OS (was thinking of maybe doing Leopard, since I'm still running Tiger), I feel like I've done all I can.
Any thoughts... ideas? This feels like a conflict is being created when I run certain programs. But maybe it's a hardware malfunction of some sort. I'm clueless at this point.
    Please help. Thanks.

    Hi BDAqua,
I just followed your instructions to run Applejack, because I have been having problems similar (virtually identical) to what the original poster is experiencing. I attempted to run 'applejack AUTO' three times, and each time the computer shuts down after completing Repair Permissions. It happens very fast at the end, but one time I could make out the last line that read (I believe) 'CPU Halted'.
The computer boots up normally. Most of the time, the total freeze comes at a time when Firefox 3.0.4 is running, but one freeze came when only Cocktail was running and the screen saver kicked in.
I'm very meticulous about my daily routine maintenance, including running Cocktail daily before shutting the machine down every day, I've run DiskWarrior recently (as late as yesterday).
The (flashed) video card has been running fine for a year; the freezing started recently, at about the same time as the last QuickTime update from Apple.
What would be your next suggestion?
    Thanks in advance.
