Counting songs and returns to main menu

Hi there
Has just purchased the 60GB iPOD december last year and I am already having a problem with it.
Choosing Artist ==> Album and starting it, the player is counting the songs from 1 to 15 if there are 15 tracks on the album. No music is played When it has finished it returns to the main menu.
Naturally I wil take it to the store and it will be fixed, just wanted to see if any had experienced the same and maybe had an idea about me, having done something I wasn't aware of.
Torbennn

Mine did the same thing today, then proceeded to die. I can't turn it on, I can't connect it to the computer or anything.
I plugged into my computer and a battery with a lightning bolt on top shows up, and after 30 seconds or so, the Apple logo shows up. It then gives me the sick ipod logo.
I can't do anything though. Can't reset or update or turn it on for that matter.

Intermittent problems are often a result of interference. Interference can be caused by other networks in the neighbourhood or from household electrical items.
You can download and install iStumbler to help you see which channels are used by neighbouring networks so that you can avoid them, but iStumbler will not see household items.
Refer to your router manual for instructions on changing your wifi channel.

  • Chapters won't stop and return to main menu

I am creating a DVD with seven chapters created in Final Cut Pro. I created Chapter markers and durations in FCP. DVD Studio recognizes and links successfully with the chapters I set, but the chapters don't end, they just keep playing through the subsequent chapters until the piece is over. At the end of each chapter I need the DVD to go back to the main menu.
Any suggestions of what I can do in either FCP or DVD Studio Pro?

they just keep playing through the subsequent chapters until the piece is over.
This is normal for DVD. If you watch a film you would want this to happen.
As you have been told you can set Chapter End jumps but the user will still be able to skip to the next chapter unless you control things by settying UOPs.
You may want to make a Track for each of your Vids in future. Look into Stories if you want other options like play all etc.

  • Using Cap6, need to create menu screen that allows user to click a button, branch to other screens, and return to main menu. When returning to the main screen the button that was clicked will be grayed out or inactive.  How do I do this?  I created image

I am trying to emulate a piece of equipment.  I need the user to be able to click on specific buttons that will take the user to another screen(s).  After viewing those screens the user will be directed back to the main screen where the user would know which buttons had been pressed and which still needed to be pressed.  I create image buttons with the 3 states - that worked except when the user returns the slide is reset and so the user does not see the 3rd state of the button.  How can I get that 3rd state to stay after user returns to the main screen?

    Hi Elizabeth,
Since I just did this morning what you are currently attempting to do, I thought I'd share my method.  I must provide a disclaimer and tell you that I am not an expert in Captivate advanced actions--like you, I am still figuring them out.  However, I am happy to share here anything I have learned thus far.
First, here is what my initial slide looks like (see interaction slide below).  I created all of the icons (including the 'grayed out' icon on the second screenshot) in a few minutes using Adobe Illustrator. The icons have been imported as custom multi-state buttons so that I could have the desired effect when the user hovers over the image--the yellow 'explore' flag appears only when the mouse is over the icon. When the learner click either image, they are sent to the corresponding slide.  Once both slides are viewed, a 'continue' button will appear at the base of the screen (something I've not figured out--I sent an email to Lieve begging for some guidance).
    The initial slide (interaction slide):
Second, here is a depiction of what happens when the learner returns to the interactive slide from the content slide (see image below):  Once the learner visits the 'Battery Content' slide and then returns to the interaction slide, the images have changed.  The multi-state button is hidden (through the advanced action), the replacement image (the image with the completed banner over it) is shown, and a hidden click box to allow the user to return to the previously visited page (just in case they desire to do that) is "shown" to allow navigation since the button is no longer there (because it is magically hidden).
    Content Slide 1:
Remember, there may be an easier way to do this in Captivate.  I am using Cp6 for this module.
    1. I created two user variables as follows
    Name: v_batteryExplore
    Value: 0
    Name: v_fuelExplore
    Value: 0
    2. I created an advanced action for each as shown below (showing only one--duplicate the first and change the names to match the content):
Credit: I learned these steps from @Lilibiri and Dr. Pooja Jaisingh!
I have also noticed that it matters where the buttons are located on the timeline.  It seems best to have buttons above all other content.  Not sure why, but I have had images not appear when I have not done this.
And the last step you do not want to forget; you need to remember to tell Captivate to use the action.
As a final note, remember that the elements you do not want to appear on the initial screen must not be initially visible.  Make sure to set them to invisible by removing the checkmark in the 'Visible in output' box located next to the button name.  In my case, the image of the completed battery and the invisible button to allow a revisit of content was initially hidden.  Here is a final screenshot of my timeline for this interaction.  I hope this information helps you!

  • When I play a movie in iDVD, how can I pause to return to main menu?

When I play a Quicktime movie in iDVD, is it possible to have a progress slider and have controls with play, pause, forward or rewind while playing? Right now, what it does is the movie plays entirely and returns to main menu after playing.
Also, how can I return to main menu even if the video hasn't entirely played?
    Thanx in advance!

No, not in iDVD - Have you tried the controls on your DVD player remote - that's what I do.
Also, how can I return to main menu even if the video hasn't entirely played?
I just hit the 'Menu' button on my DVD player remote.

  • Return to main menu after chapter...

Is iDVD capable of returning to main menu after a certain chapter plays? The reason I ask is because I have a clip I would like to keep "hidden" - it's technically chapter 3, but I don't want it to play as part of the movie - I only want it be played by selecting "extra scene" in the main menu (don't really want it in the scene selection menu, but i'd take that also)- but I have a feeling iDVD can't do that... I hope i'm wrong though.
Another thing - i'm putting together a dvd with concerts - is it possible to have a menu and a scene selection menu for EACH show? For instance - concert #1 would have a menu - with a scene selection spot - and concert #2 would have the same - and 3 and so on... Of course, that brings me back to my first question - can these play without running together?
or do I need DVD Studio Pro? cause I think that's probably what i'm gonna have to look into.

Separate iMoive or FC projects can be input separately.
You can split a moive and import only what you want by exporting it to Quicktime alone.
But if something is a part of your main video project, it will play along with the other parts.
You can delete its chapter selection from your menu, but the video will still play in order in the project.
And, no iDVD can't return to the main menu from a certain chapter in the project.
The only way to do that is to (as stated above) import that video separately.
I'd say you still have a lot of options before you jump to DVDSP.

  • Cannot load programs they either have error or you open the app and it returns to main menu

Cannot load programs they either have error 606 or you open the app and it closes and goes to main screen

Best to do a soft restart, <Hold down the "off" key on top and the "home" button at the bottom until it resets and you see the apple logo. It usually helps with those issues.

  • IPod returns to main menu for no apparent reason.

I just got my iPod Touch a few days ago, and today I noticed something peculiar. When I'm, say, using the map, Safari, contacts list, or anything that isn't Youtube or the music navigation, I will randomly be directed back to the main menu, without pressing the main button or doing any action that the iPod could possibly interpret as 'return to the main menu.'
So now I'm wondering why my iPod is doing this. I have not upgraded or downgraded my firmware since I got it, nor have I put any new programs or songs on since yesterday (it was working yesterday). Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

Hello, and Welcome to Apple Discussions.
This can sometimes happen, nothing to worry about (although it does make you wonder about the stability of the OS...)
A "solution" is to completely shut off (hold sleep button for several seconds) more often.
It's a known problem, I hope they get it fixed. Updating to the newest software might help, too.
    Hope this helps.

  • How do you return to main menu at end of movie in iDVD 11?

I have created a movie in iMovie '11 with chapter markers, and imported it into iDVD 7.1.2 (1158) on an iMac
    running OS X Lion 10.7.2
The movie imports all chapters with corresponding labels perfectly. I added a chapter at the very beginning of the movie in iMovie, and it shows up fine in iDVD.
I removed AutoPlay since I want the DVD to play the Main Menu upon inserting it into a DVD player. What I can't figure out is how to make the DVD return to the Main Menu once it finishes playing to the end of the movie. It will automatically go to the Chapters selection menu instead. Is it possible to have it return to the Main Menu?
    In God's Harmony

It is very possible that your iDVD Project has no Chapter Markers.
It's possible.  My "project" which included pictures as well as movies was all done in iPhoto as a slide show.  From there I exported the slideshow into iDVD.
I sort of messed up "I think."  I believe I did the original burn incorrectly-tester #1.  I re-burned another one this afternoon which turned out very well-tester #2.  Think I will stick with the options I used for tester #2 since it was the easiest.
For "chapters" I will need to do some extensive "how to" reading especially when it comes to iMove.  I used iPhoto since it accepts both photos & movies.  I "think" iMovie only deals with movies?
Thank you very much for your last post.  It was very helpful.
Now onto the iPhoto fourms to learn how to "add" photos & movies to where I want them, not where the computer wants to put them.

  • Doesn't return to main menu after slideshow

I put together some photos in iPhoto and then used the export to iDVD command to create a DVD of the slide show. I watched the slideshow all the way through in the preview mode in the iDVD app, and when the slideshow was finished, it went back to the main menu. Then I burned a DVD of it and put it in my home DVD player, and when it gets to the end of the slideshow it just stops and shows the screen on my TV like there is no DVD in the player - the blue screen with the DVD logo. I tried putting the DVD in my other computer and it returned to the main menu after the slideshow from the DVD, so the problem seems to just be with my Panasonic home DVD player.
I also have a movie on there that I created in iMovie. When that plays on my home DVD player it returns to the main menu when it is finished.
Any reason why this is doing this and what I can do about it? Since my internal DVD burner went bust, I'm using an external DVD burner, but I can't imagine that would have anything to do with it.
    Thanks.

Okay, I figured it out. After much heartache and frustration I finally figured it out. I couldn't quite accept the fact that it may have been due to the type of DVD I was using - especially when you can't go out and buy just one blank DVD.
Anyhow, after getting frustrated with iDVD, I decided to try putting the project together using DVD Studio Pro 3. What I noticed is that, when trying to build a slideshow, I couldn't use more than 99 photos. I actually had 101 photos in my slideshow. So, I went back to iDVD and took out 2 photos so that I had a total of 99 in the project. Then, when I played it in my home DVD player, it worked fine. It went back to the main menu after completing the slideshow.
So, moral of the story is, in iDVD 6, you can't use more than 99 photos in your slideshow.

  • TV Show plays half, then returns to main menu

We synched Married...With Children and Cheers (Season 4) with no problems, but we are having issues with Cheers, Season 3. When I watch an episode I get to the 10 - 12 minute mark and the episode stops playing and the iPod returns to the main menu. The episode plays fine in iTunes, so I think it should play fine on the iPod. Why is it different? How do I fix it?
We are running Windows Vista and iTunes 7. It is an iPod Classic (160GB), software version 1.1.2 PC.

    Try restoring your iPod.
For more details, read here: How to restore your iPod
Also, what firmware version is your iPod running on? See your iPod's info in iTunes, or go to "Settings > About" on your iPod to learn what version it's running on. (it would be either 1.2 or 1.2.1)
If you currently aren't upgraded to 1.2.1 (which is the latest), give it a try, and see if anything happens to change or work for you.

  • How to auto return to main menu after track plays

On my main menu I have two buttons. Each accesses a different video asset. But when the user selects one of the videos to play at the end of play I need the user to be returned to the main menu. Currently, at the end of video play the screen just sits on the last frame, which is black, and does not return to the main menu. In the simulator, if I hit the menu button it goes back to the main menu but I would like it to return to the main menu automatically after the video that has been selected is finished playing. I have searched through the DVD SP manual and so far can't find out how to do this. Do I have to write a script for this simple action? Is there a setting that simply makes a target track jump back to the main menu after it plays? Thanks as ever for your excellent advice.

You need to set the end jump for the track... click on the track in the outline or graphical view, look in the property inspector. Near the top there is a drop down for the end jump - use that to set where to go back to... in your case the menu.

  • DVD doesn't return to main menu when reaches end - Why? How?

My DVD plays through full movie and then essentially just stops at the end vs returning to the main menu. The menu button doesn't even return it at that point. What can I do to make it return to the main menu when it reaches the end?

    I'm having a similar issue...
In all the previous projects I've created with iDVD, the movie always automatically returned to the DVD main menu at the very end of the presentation.
On my current project using iDVD 6.0.2 (787), this is not occuring. At the end of the DVD presentation, the screen continues to stay black until the "stop" button is depressed.
I'm obviously frustrated because I have looked everywhere in "iDVD Help" and within the on-line support discussions for an answer, but to no avail.
I don't think that it's a DVD media issue because the problem occurs on iDVD when previewing (and obviously on the DVD media after burning).
Does anyone know why this is happening? Is there a special command, tool, or secret handshake I need to provide in iMovie HD, or iDVD? Any insight is most appreciated.

  • How to make a return to main menu button

I've only recently upgraded from iDVD (not sure how I worked with it for so long)
    I'm using DVD SP 3
I have made a dvd with a title screen from where you can play the entire film or go to a second menu which contains four chapters.
This seems very basic but i've searched the forum a lot and can't find the answer (maybe because it's so basic)...
How do I make a button on the second/chapter menu screen that will return to the main menu? The kind that idvd places there automtically.
Do I have to make a script (I haven't done this before) or is there some 'automatic' function or ?
    Ashley

    1) Create a button on the chapter menu with the text MAIN MENU (or whatever you want it to say).
    2) Select the chapter menu in either the graphical or outline view of your DVD.
    3) Click on the Connections tab.
    4) Select the MAIN MENU button in the source column.
    5) Select the main menu in the Targets column.
    6) Click the Connect button above the Targets column.
After doing the above steps you should see the main menu in the Target column to the right of "MAIN MENU:Jump when activated" in the source column. Your MAIN MENU button will now take you back to the main menu.
