  • Where is the update for BlackBerry 10.3????

Where is the update for BlackBerry 10.3???  Everybody has it but Verizon customer's.  I'm not getting why we haven't gotten it yet.

They're likely too busy getting top down pressure to make Windows Phone #3 in the marketplace, even though, BB10 is far superior and people that truly use it, know it. Got a feeling, even VZW knows it, on the inside ;-).
Frustrate dedicated BlackBerry users enough, maybe they'll switch and BB will just go away...what they don't get is, won't happen, not here anyway. Heck, can't even find a BlackBerry device within sight in a VZW store around here. Have to first get through reps pushing/dealing crApple (sorry, not an NScrApple addict ;-)), then get through all the iPhone, iPad, etc super displays, then get through all the Droid, then get through all the Windows Phone displays, then you may find a BlackBerry buried in the back corner where no one is, and the reps have no idea how to use/promote the device to its fullest (we had to show them!). They don't even know what a Passort is when asked - yep, definitely up to speed on BlackBerry and in full support. Sad. Funny how BlackBerry rocks outside the US, even rated best OS, hmmm, so, what's the connection VZW? Who's demanding you bury BlackBerry BB10, and why are you obeying them?
If your support is sincere for BlackBerry BB10 and your BB10 customer base, get with the program and get 10.3 released to show that support! Talk of support is cheap, show it.
Maybe if the name were changed to iBerry?.......till then, all BB10 users will get is: "We know software updates are always exciting!", blah, blah, blah...

  • Apps on BlackBerry World for BlackBerry Z10

    Hi BlackBerry
I'm very impressed with the new BlackBerry Z10 device with its new features, display resolution, keyboard typing and gestures, but I have a big issue with the Apps on BlackBerry world.
Still BlackBerry World is missing lots and lots of popular apps that are widely used and are currently available on Apple AppStore & Android Google Play. I know that you are working on it, and it is hard for now to compete with Apple & Android appstores, but at least there is a punch of apps that are mostly common worldwide, especailly the social networking and voip calling apps which have to be launched officially on BlackBerry world as soon as possible.
In addition, I'd like to draw your attention that the Facbook app (which is currently integrated with BB 10) is an older version of Facebook than the currently available one for Android & iOS devices (one big difference is that the current facebook app version for Android & iOS devices include the "Share" feature for my feeds and stories, while the facebook app on BB 10 still does not include that feature). I don't know about twitter and linkedin, as I didn't check yet, but at least pleasue ensure with their developers that those native integrated apps are updated to their latest versions to provide BlackBerry users the same experience that Android & iOS users are having.
Also, about apps, there are many apps developed by Google (like youtube, Google Maps & Navigation, Google +, Google Current ...etc) which are not yet available on BlackBerry world (The Youtube app on BB 10 is just a shortcut to the internet broweser and not a fullt fledged Youtube App). Having Google apps on BlackBerry world will also give a big push to the users base for BB 10 (especially the Google Maps & Navigation, which are ranked and considered the best mapping database and app worldwide). I know that Google have to develop such apps from their side (as the same for other developers), but I hope that BlackBerry should give this issue its ultimae priority, as I think that the major drawback (if I can name it so) for BB 10 to earn a significant market share worldwide is the absence of many popular and widely used apps on the BlackBerry World as compared with Apple App Store and Android Google Play.
I know that BB 10 and its OS is just the begining, and that BlackBerry have more to provide to us from the apps side and other sides as well, so keep moving and hope to see the positive results soon.
    Regards;

    Hi ahmed_mh1,
Blackberry has certainly put in a concerted effort to woo app developers of all types, big names and small alike. It by far the best effort that I have ever seen from them in this regard.. Unfortunately no matter the effort by them it will always come down to numbers for the big guys. If they aren't sure there will be a ROI on the investment of developing they won't put the resources into it.
This can be seen with the Facebook app you mentioned, it is a great example because it wasn't developed by Facebook... Blackberry ended up doing it for them. I'm sure that we have all noticed that Blackberry has been busy working on other areas of the phone, and that they have lots more work that we would all like to see done.
Would you rather have better notification granularity, or a better Facebook app?
If all of the million + z10 use re would all petition Facebook for a better FB built app, then we would have a much better chance of seeing the dream FB app that we desire.
Of course we all know about the rumours that FB wants to have their own phone.. so maybe conflict of interest has played into the game...?
#GetWithBB10!!! As Kevin O'Leary says.. it is the best!

  • Why is mobile phone use in USA most expensive in the world for same or lower quality?

I was actually spurred to ask this when I saw what I'm paying for 4 lines and 3gb of data versus what att offers now. Feeling doubly abused.

Try Germany. Their network is heavily subsidized by their government. They also tax you up to 50% of your earnings. Gas there is roughly $10 per gallon. Mathematically I have seen where in most European countries with the same commodities they end up paying the same average when everything is said and done. Just the "pies" look different.

  • This spells the end for Blackberry

what a disaster. Been on the phone to Blackberry, Vodafone, Geek Squad all who have no idea how to resolve syncing BB Passport with Outlook 2014 on Windows 8.1. Quite simply, it doesnt work. I cant believe a phone that sells itself as being for the serious business user quite simply does not work in one area where previously, it synced flawlessly allowing the user to keep all calender entries and contacts up to date as well as email etc. Blackberry, you have epicly failed here and its so frustrating. The syncing of contacts and calender entries was a pivotal and important strength of your product. Its what kept me as a Blackberry customer but alas, its just doesnt work any more. RIP Blackberry.

I have not used wired sync in years so I wont be able to assist in that.
I did however move on to Outlook.com email. Might be same as Live but not positive.
With Outlook.com email address you can sync your emails, calendar, contacts easy over the air with active sync and no more wires needed.
I used Outlook on my PC and downloaded the Outlook connector to access my Outlook.com emails.
    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/outlook/outlook-connector
Then for my old gmail accounts, I just moved everything over in outlook (since it was setup with all my email accounts) to some new fodlers in outlook.com and forwarded all my gmail to outlook.com. I did this on 3 accounts on Gmail as gmail blocks Active Sync on non andriod devices.
After doing this lttle bit I no longer need wires. everything syncs and my frustration has been less and I dont miss any emails from the old accounts as they are forwarded.

  • Find friends from the Facebook for BlackBerry smartphones Application

I cannot seem to get this to show up on my FB Page although my wife with a 8330 had no issues and we downloaded and installed same time same way.   Anyone have any clue as it should be on the FB Page and I know it is linked

    HI,
The link contains not only the setup articles but links to the error conditions and resolutions.
One question, have you upgraded the TOUR or did you load your application data from the previous phone to it.
Check the following. At the home screen, select options, advanced options, applications, check that only one version of
Facebook is loaded, and that it is version 1.6.0.21

  • Newcomer to the world of blackberry...

... so please be gentle with me
I've just joined the blackberry world with an 8520 Curve and have some very basic questions which I don't see listed in any FAQs
Firstly, as a veteran of the PC and Intel server world, I'm always very reluctant to update things like PC BIOS and even O/S updates without good reason, yet I suspect on my BB the OS is somewhat out of date as it was delivered. When I connected to Desktop Manager for the first time it gave a huge long list of updates that were available.
So the first simple question is - is it safe, and the normally done thing to keep EVERYTHING up to date, or do you tend to follow the "only update if something is broke" philosophy? And what are the risks of updating? Can they fail? Are failures recoverable? I don't want to be left with a handful of useless mashed blackberries...
The other quick question is about Wi-Fi - if I'm in an area where I have both a mobile network connection AND a Wi-Fi connection, which takes preference for things like web browsing? I would have expected to be abe to configure some sort of priority order, but does it go through Wi-Fi if the signal is there? What if there is no mobile network connection - what things work with JUST Wi-Fi and what rely on a mobile network? I'm assuming, for example, that BBM uses mobile network services and won't work over Wi-Fi?
    Thanks in anticipation...
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

perfectly safe. Many of us here do it.
The only thing is, you have to go into your computer after you download the software and delete the VENDOR.XML fie folder if its provided by another carrier.
you can find it here on your computer
    C:\Program Files\Common Files\Research In Motion\Apploader
once you have deleted the file, run the loader.exe file in the same location.
    Hope that made sense

  • Purchasing and iPad 2 unlocked for use around the world on GSM?

I travel all over the world for my job, can I buy an iPad in the USA, that is unlocked to use on GSM around the world?  Or should I buy an iPad outside the USA to be able to use it both in the USA and internationally on GSM?
    Thank you,

The AT&T version in the US is GSM/sim based and unlocked - you'll just need to get micro-sims from wherever you go.

  • How do you make Nokia appreciate the need for Lumi...

As much as I'm loving the new devices Nokia releases I can't help but feel they keeping getting the internal storage wrong on their higher end devices.
An ideal world would offer decent internal memory (16GB minimum/32GB+ preferable) as well as microSD access on all their Lumia linup.  I accept that there woiuld be a trade-off for some designs to try to incorporate this on all the devices, but for those devices that don't have a microSD and you are selling as high-end (92X series) you should provide an absolute minimum of 32GB internal memory.
The Lumia 925 is a beautiful device, but the 16GB version (which I'm assuming will be the most readily available option compared to the 32GB version)  is woefully lacking for decent internal storage.
As great as the cloud computing/4G LTE revolution will be, it isn't here yet so you can't sell devices that appear to be intended to have their internal memory extended/supplemented by cloud access, as there's very few countries in the world that have a 4G network up to the task.
Even when cloud access/4G is improved I still would consider it vital to have decent sized local storage as well as high-speed cloud access.  Network access/reliability isn't 100% and so a device that relies on cloud access ends up being as crippled as Google's Chromebook has been since launch having to rely on a tech which isn't there yet.  Sure, gaming and the bulk of your music might make sense to play via the cloud when you can but with such amazing cameras on the devices there needs to be enough internal memory to give the user no worry of using it all up with apps, downloaded music&films for offline viewing, photos and their amazing holiday videos.
Nokia makes a great deal (and quite rightly) that the camera in your pocket should have great imaging capabilities as it's the one you can most quickly reach for.  Their Lumia devices are being positioned as devices suitable for all locations and all situations and so should be able to operate as such - when we go off the beaten track, we should be limited in what our device can do because it can't access the network!
I sincerely ask Nokia not to put out any higher-end Lumias without the following minimum requirements:
    1)  16GB+ internal storage with accessible expandable microSD memory.
    2)  32GB+ internal storage if no microSD slot available.
    3)  16GB+ internal storage with built in inaccessible microSD memory (32GB+ minimum) if the phone's design makes external microSD impractical/undesirable

    @ yasfer21
Don’t think there’s any need to argue anything here I believe another_rob has a point I purchase a Lumia 800 on release date knowing it only had 16gb of memory with no way to expand it, but I thought the 25gb of cloud would be good enough to compensate for lack of memory in the phone it self. Well what a fool was I, I don’t live out in the sticks, I live in a medium size town just outside one of the UKs main cities and even here there are parts of the town that you can loose phone connection let alone a good data connection, so I learned very quickly that the cloud option is at best poor and worst pointless for me.
I can see that yes cloud will get better with 4G and is only going to get better over time but it is to soon to make the phone so dependant on it, just a small point MS has now taken back 18gb of that cloud storage any way, didn’t bother me as I’ve not used it over the last twelve months now any way, also just another point the phone uses some of that 16gb of memory for the OS and other system software so you don’t even get the whole 16gb for your own use, I never looked myself when I first got the phone to see how much the OS used.
I also have my own nas storage at home which I have access to via the net so I can see and understand the advantages to cloud based back up and file transfer, but after saying that I’m now looking for a different phone partly due to the lack of greater internal  memory storage in the phone. My own Lumia only has 750mb of memory left and that is only because I have had to decide not to copy files to the phone that I used to have on my previous phone Nokia N900.
I know there is going to be cost considerations that Nokia have used to determine what memory to put in the phone so as not to make it to pricey and put people of as the mobile market is so very competitive but why not at lest give the user a couple of options either phones with different memory options or just a card slot, for me my next phone will have at lest 32gb of internal memory and an sd slot so I can have all the files I want full access to anywhere and at any time. So with this in mind I think there is no Nokia that meets this requirement and even if there was I have other problems with the OS on the phone so will not be buying another windows phone, which if a sad day for me as I’ve owned Nokia phones for over 25+ years.
Please this is just my own personal view as was your post and this forum is here for people to post there own views and ask question or ask for assistance and I hope that Nokia read these post and try to put phones out there that we will all be happy to own and use, just for now I will be using someone else’s mobile for the next couple of years I guess has I will be taking out another 18 or 24 month contract. No phone manufacture is ever going to make a phone that is perfect for everyone, mission impossible.
I will keep an eye on this forum and other press to see how thing progress with the Lumia range and who knows I may be back with them in a couple of years time so I wish you all well.

  • Submit APK for BlackBerry??

Have you guys heard about the promo RIM is running to attract android developers?
    https://twitter.com/#!/asaunders/status/165097598624075777
Anyway they have an online submission process that converts your .apk file to their .something file and so far I put one of my apps through it and it passed initial testing, I am still waiting on signing certificates to get it full submitted but I see one user is experiencing problems with it due to lack of an AIR plugin on the device.
    See link for problem.
    http://supportforums.blackberry.com/t5/BlackBerry-Plug-in-for-Android/Porting-from-Flash-t o-Android-to-Playbook-possible/td-p/1558193
So my question is has anyone tried successfully submitting a Captive Runtime AIR app to the Android for BlackBerry program?
Does the playbook have an air plug in? If so what version of air does it support, both the apps I plan on submitting exist in a 2.6 version and above.

Sure, I Will keep you guys posted. For now I first have to figure out where to promote playbook apps.

  • IPhone around the world ... Or not ;-/

    Helo!
Has anyone got any idea how Apple chooses which countries get their iPhone, when it's spreading around the globe?
I've been waiting for the official way of getting myself an iPhone for more than a year now, but it seems like I'll have to wait a bit longer, since Slovenia is still not on the list of countries apple published on on of the events this year (I think it was Macworld). Since I believe we're the only country in EU that didn't get the new phone yet, I'm a bit disapointed, really.
Our cellphone carrier did sell the very first edition of iPhone just weeks after its launch in USA, but even though it seems they made some kind of deal with Apple, it doesn't really seem official enough.
I think one of the problems is one of our new laws, which forbids selling any device, from which costumer can't take the battery out by himself or change it. So now when you buy an iPhone you get some spooky papers showing you how to remove the battery for disposal from iPods, so I think they could do the same thing with iPhones too. I personaly agree with this law, because the worst chemicals in our devices are probably in batteries and without propper disposal we're releasing toxins into our nature. But Apple doesn't care about our enviroment it seems. The compact design of their devices really feels nice in hand, but I think they could do something about batteries ... I mean you have to send in the phone in order to change it's battery - try that with Nokia ;-P .
So even though I do have mixed feelings about the iPhone I still think it's a great device that combines the phone with iPod and has other great capabilities (even though I was seriousely shocked about lack of something like MMS and video recording in previous models). And I really don't see any good reason why it shouldn't come to Slovenia- our infrastructure is really up to date (Slovenia was among first countries in the world to implement 3G in 2003) and there are many potential buyers here =) .
So even though I'd have to overpay your device (because Apple still didn't realize that 1USD isn't equal to 1EUR), I'd like to get it soon.
Otherwise I'll be forced to buy it in some other country and unlock it and I really don't wanna do that.

Yeah, but there's quite obvious downside to non-removable batteries too.
You can drop empty batteries in any shop that sells electronics here in Slovenia, but none of them accepts the whole devices (at least I haven't seen any), so when consumers can't get the battery out, they are pretty much forced to throw the device into regular trash (since we commonly just put plastic, metals, glass and paper into special cans that are awailable quite pretty much everywhere... And iPhones of course shouldn't be thrown in any of those.
But if I remembercorrectly, Apple mad some kind of a deal here, so that you get instructions on how to remove batteries (though it requires a specilal screwdriver, that doesn't come with the device, of course), but you can give them back to the store you purchased them from and they're supposed to send them back to Apple ... But this second solutions of course has a pretty serious flaw, since in my opinion shops aren't likely to send the device back and would likely just throw it away themselves.
And our carriers are interested in iPhone for sure ... You can even get yourself a data plan, which is meant specially for iPhone users, but the only people that susbscribe to it are those who either bought the phone abroad or "semi-legally" at one of the carriers who sells them (though they're still not officially here). Or you can really rarely get your hands on unlocked phone in shops too, though I haven't seen them anywhere yet.

  • Adobe Reader for Blackberry Does Not Support Fillable Forms

I've discovered that the version released for Android does support fillable forms, but the version for Blackberry does not.  I assume Blackberry did not develop the app so what gives?

    Mehwish,
Thank you so much for responding, and so quickly. I appreciate it.
It does not appear as though the PDF I am trying to read would have an element in it that would block it from reflow, but that is always possible. It’s a textbook, and I understand that toward the end of the book there are some charts and diagrams, but I haven’t gotten to those chapters yet. So far, I’ve just been trying to use the Adobe Reader to read the introduction and first chapter and nothing I have done has made it reflow.
I’m enclosing a copy of the entire book. Perhaps you can uncover something in it that I didn’t see.
    Thanks again for you help.
