Course 10778 Implementing Data Models and Reports with Microsoft SQL Server 2012

Hi,
I recently imported the virtual machines for the above-mentioned course. I am running Windows Server 2012 Standard edition on my pc. When I tried the first lab exercise, I could
not open the report in MS Sharepoint Server. The error was to do with the following: "cannot impersonate user for data source 'AdventureWorksDW' ", and also "cannot convert claims identity to windows token sharepoint". I followed all the
steps in the setup guide.
Please assist me with this regard,
Many thanks.

Hi Zimiso,
Based on the error message, it seems that the issue is caused by the incorrect configuration of Claims to Windows Token Service (C2WTS) that it was not running under a domain account.
The domain account used by the Claims to Windows Token Service needs to be granted the following rights through the Local Security Policy:
Act as part of the operating system
Impersonate a client after authentication
Log on as a service
We can find these settings under Administrative Tools > Local Security Policy > Local Policies > User Rights Assignment. Please note that we should add the service account to the local Administrators Groups ahead.

  • Trying to install features for PowerPivot and Reporting Services from SQL Server 2012 with SP2, but no access to key?

    Hi,
I had installed SQL Server 2012 PowerPivot on WFE and App Server. This is test farm with 1 WFE and 1 APP and 1 SQL Server.
However, we had a heap of issues with Windows Claims Authentication and PowerPivot - issues were raised with "unable to make a connection to EntityDataSource" . Now we uninstalled the PowerPivot and Reporting Services features and wanted to install
with the SQL Server 2012 with SP2. Originally SP2 was installed seperately and we had read there had been issues.
Anyway on trying to install the features again using the SQL Server 2012 with SP2 iso I get
    Could not open key UNKNOWN\Components
I don't want to start deleting or changing permissions as quite dodgey. What is this key for anyway and how do I resolve my issue.
    Thanks.
    John.

    Hi John,
Did you meet the error message during the process of configuring the PowerPivot for SharePoint?
If yes, I suppose that the existing features or components have not been uninstalled completely.
I recommend to delete the two keys left when uninstalling the PowerPivot and please make a copy of the registry keys before you delete the two keys:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Shared Tools\Web Server Extensions\15.0\WSS\ServiceProxies\Microsoft.AnalysisServices.Sharepoint.Integration.MidTierServiceProxy
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Shared Tools\Web Server Extensions\15.0\WSS\ServiceProxies\Microsoft.AnalysisServices.Sharepoint.Integration.MidTierServicea
Please check the steps in the link below to see if there anything wrong when you uninstalling the PowerPivot and then re-install it to see how it works:

  • SAP NetWeaver BI with Microsoft SQL Server 2012 Reporting Services using XMLA

I am currently implementing SAP BW and am trying to connect the Microsoft SQL Server 2012 Reporting Services product.  I am able to connect to SAP BW but there is one problem when i click on Query Designer after adding a DataSet the screen just displays the dialog prompt saying '' NO CUBES WERE FOUND. VERIFY THAT YOU HAVE SELECTED A VALID CATALOG''.
The advanced information depicts the following:

    Hi Raunak T,
Just a very basic question from my end:
I believe that "Microsoft SQL server Report Builder" is the 3rd party which uses MDX as interface.
Have you set the property using OLE DB for OLAP in your queries?

  • Copy data models and reports from BW 3.1 to NW 2004s

    Hi experts,
Our client has two BW servers: BW 3.1 and BI 7. BW 3.1 contains lots of data models and reports. And the BI 7 server is newly installed.
Now we want to copy these data models and reports from BW 3.1 to the new BI 7 server. Are there any solutions for this?
Thank you very much in advance.

    Hi Frank,
Sounds like a cross version transport is needed.
This is a solution we have used to do what you want to do:-
Create and release a transport as per normal.
Copy and transport the files from the source system (BW 3.1) e.g /usr/sap/trans/data & /usr/sap/trans/cofiles to the same folders on the target system.
    Basis help is needed here.
From here onwards using stms_import should help you in the normal manner.
    Works a treat.
Have transported the following all correctly appearing as 3.x data models in NW2004s.
    DSO objects.
    Cubes
    Transfer/Update rules
    Reports.
    Cheers,
    Pom

  • Share Data Source between multiple report projects in Microsoft SQL Server 2012 Reporting Services

I have a reports solution in 2012 which contains multiple report projects one each for target deployment folder and we use TFS 2012 for report deployment.
We have a template project which has a bunch of template reports and all the datasources used in different reports.
When I develop a report, I cannot "Preview" in TFS but, for deploy this used to work fine util the reports solution was in TFS 2010 & Visual Studio 2008 R2. Since we moved to TFS 2012 & SSRS 2012 not being able to deploy till I create all
the necessary datasources for each project and now all the developers complaining that they cannot develop reports in TFS itself as they cannot preview (this problem was existing previously) and now not being able to deploy as it errors for each report "Could
not find specified rds file". I tried messing around with the .rptproj file DataSources tag that did not help either by modifying it like below.
    <DataSources>
    <ProjectItem>
    <Name>DB.rds</Name>
    <FullPath>Template\Data Source\DB.rds</FullPath>
    </ProjectItem>
    </DataSources>
Is there a way I could share a Data Source between multiple projects in Microsoft SQL Server 2012 Reporting Services?
    Thanks in advance.............
    Ione

    Hi ione721,
According to your description, you want to create a shared data source which works for multiple projects. Right?
In Reporting Services, A shared data source is a set of data source connection properties that can be referenced by multiple reports, models, and data-driven subscriptions that run on a Reporting Services report server. It must be within one project.
We can't specify one data source working for multple projects. In this scenario, we suggest you put those reports into one project. Otherwise you can only create one data source for each project.
If you have any question, please feel free to ask.

  • Reports & Microsoft SQL Server 2012 Express LocalDB support policy

    Hello,
Willing to move some databases into Microsoft SQL Server 2012 (2014) Express LocalDB, I have tryed to map some reports on that database.
Using OLE DB SQL Native Client (v11) and SAP CR RunTime SP10 (>SP9), I still have trouble when using this data source:
After drawing some simple reports (standard ones with 2-3 fields from the database):
    - VS designer:
+ when "checking database" or "getting a preview" of the report, it always complains about missing tables.
+ when trying to "re-map" tables from one SQL Server 2012 Express LocalDB to another one it fails, complaining about not findind resources.
    - Running application (.NET 4.0, 32 or 64-bits):
+ without any change to the report configuration: CR Viewer complains with multiple error codes (17, ...) that it cannot find the tables
+ trying to change the configured database from the report: CR VIewer complains with some more error codes
=> Is Microsoft SQL Server 2012 Express LocalDB now officially supported by CR ?
=> Is changing datasource/database configuraton during execution now officially supported by CR ?
Feel free to provide an any links / howto's / white paper about how managing Microsoft SQL Server 2012 Express LocalDB with SAP CR !
    Many thanks in advance.
    Regards.

    Don,
I did not want you to think that I am not willing to change anything...
The issue is that LocalDB specs (http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms130822(v=sql.110).aspx) are not (seems not) fulfiled by what SAP APIs provide.
Following specs, I need to provide ADO DB/SQL Native Client v11 an "AttachDBFileName" property which, for LocalDB instance, is equal to the DatabaseName property (check below screenshot from MS Mgmt Studio connected to a SQL Server 2012 LocalDB instance).
Moreover, OLEDB discovery provide in CR 2013 UI this same list of "DatabaseName":
When connected, this same CR 2013 UI got the right "view" of connected "MDF-labelled" names:
Moreover, CR connected datasource properties also provide an "initial catalog" (databasename) value with that "MDF-labelled" name:
That is what I saw previously in API dumped objects and what I tryed to reproduce in my code:
As previously explained, after adding tables, I am also beeing able to add fields from those tables in my fresh-new report document:
It fikrst shows results in preview but as soon as I try to refresh / add some more fields / ask CR to "check database" / "change database source", the interface always complain about having "lost" objects:
Site note for Ludek Uher: CR 2013 StandaAlone fresh-new builded reports are not working neither using CR runtime SP10 when opening/updating that report..
So YES, I am OK to change whatever is required but please explain me what to use/put into the "crConnectioninfo.DatabaseName" property for a SQL Express 2012 LocalDB case.
Or leave it as is, LocalDB not being supported by CR ...
(all my reports & c# code are working well while using SQL Express 2012 "classic" (not localdb)).
    Thanks again for your time.
    Regards.

  • Do I need to install x64 and x86 versions of SQL Server 2012 SP2?

    Hi,
I have installed x64 version of SQL 2012 SP2.  Do I need to install x86 version of SP2 as well?
(I have some x86 components installed as well that came with various things like SSDT-BI and/or Visual Studio installations.)
When I click "SQL Server Installation Center (64-bit).lnk" shortcut and run "Installed SQL Server features discovery report", it says "Microsoft SQL Server 2012 Setup Discovery Report".
When I click "SQL Server Installation Center.lnk" shortcut and run same, it says "Microsoft SQL Server 2012 Service Pack 1 Setup Discovery Report".
Both reports say the same thing: the installed version is 11.2.5058.0, which is SP2.

    Hello,
No you dont have to install X86 version
SQL server 2012 installable will install SQL server as per process architecture of your machine. If it is 32 bit machine it will install 32 bit version  and for 64 bit it will install 64 bit version. installable has facility for both
Even on 64 bit machines some files, which always work in 32 bit compatibilyt mode, will be installed as well andand they go to SQL server (X86) folder. BIDS, SSIS always by default works in 32 bit compatibility mode.
If report says version as 11.2.5058 it means component is patched to SP2

  • What will I do with the SQL Server (2012/2014) (Standard/Enterprise) Licenses?

What will I do with the SQL Server (2012/2014) (Standard/Enterprise) Licenses?
Are these the same as software product keys, or just some pieces of paper the company needs to have on hand?
In which case, when we install SQL Server 2014, (and when looked for videos) - there is only 1 product key value to be put in, is there some other screen in the setup to input the License bought ( in our case will be Core licenses).
So in addition to the Core Licenses do will a Product key be needed? Would product key from an msdn work, as it is the licenses that we will buy to indicate that we bought to run the software on server X?
    Thanks for any indications.

    Thanks for any indications.
I will answer your question point wise
    1. Keeping license key is good idea it helps you during audit and you have proof that you are using a valid Microsoft License. Plus in scenario of disaster where whole box gets damanged you might need to install SQL Server again in that case during
reinstallation on setup page where you need to enter key you might need need it. If you are missing your paper then you are in trouble.
    2. Only on product key page license key is required and it is not required anywhere else during installation. Unless you enter valid product key installation will not proceed further.
3 License makes you a valid owner of Microsoft product with restrictions on how much hardware resource you can use how much max connections you can make etc. Key lets you install it on Windows machine making sure that you are using valid Microsoft product.
This was just a general idea please speak to your licensing specialist for more details. This is technical forum and we generally ask user to speak to licensing expert for such queries.

    I have two questions here:
    1. My sql server 2005 is on Window Server 2003/SP2. Does this mean I cannot install sql server 2012 upgrade advisor on it? This page (http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms144256.aspx)

  • Is there a way to convert Crystal Reports to Microsoft SQL Server 2005 reporting services?

    Post Author: Lourdes Hernandez
    CA Forum: General
Our department has always worked with and we love Crystal Reports. Unfortunately, certain reports now need to be converted to Microsoft SQL Server 2005 reporting services which from what I read I think they are *.rdl reports. Does Crystal reports have any way around this? I would have to learn this other tool when I'm already so happy with Crystal. I was thinking If I could just code the report in crystal and export it in a specific format that would be compatible Microsoft, the problem would be solved.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

    Post Author: bettername
    CA Forum: General
    Ditto!
There are some software packages to convert from CR to RS, but none work 100% AFAIK, and will require manual tuning.
Seems like a big hassle and learning curve just to get reports published via another method - I know I'd put up huge resistance if they tried to take my CR away from me!

  • Report Services Install - SQL Server 2012 instance blank

I have looked at all the links and tried the suggestions and I am still having the problem:
SCCM 2012 R2                         SQL 2012 SP1 SSRS installed and configured (separate boxes)
When I try to add the reporting services role, it finds the SCCM database and verifies connectivity to it, the SSRS instance drop down is blank.
Using a domain service accout with local admin rights on both machines and sa rights in SQL.
There is a firewall between the Primary Server and the SQL Server and ports 80, 135, 443, 445, 1433 and the high RPC range.
Does anyone know how it is determining the instance?  I have read it is via WMI but I am not sure if it is a query or executing a method.  I have verified the svc acct has the correct DCOM privs.

    Hi Jo75,
According to my understanding, you get the error message “Unable to connect to the database: Network error IOException: Connection refused: connect” when you connect to the SQL Server database
during installation of Trend Micro's DSM.
Based on my test, I was able to connect to the SQL Server database with the user name “sa” during the installation of Deep Security Manager and no error message appeared. Besides, I created
a new SQL Server login and it also worked fine.
Make sure you can connect to the SQL Server instance successfully, you can follow these steps:
    1. Open SQL Server Management Studio and click Database Engine from pull-down menu of Connect in Object Explorer.
    2. In the Server name box, you should type hostname\instance name. And you should choose SQL Server Authentication in Authentication box and type “sa” in Login box, then type your password
    and click Connect.
If you can’t connect to SQL Server, you can try to create a new login and give it full permission. Please follow these steps:
    1. Open SQL Server Management Studio and connect to SQL Server with administrator account.
    2. Click Security and right click Logins then choose New Login.
    3. In General page, type your new Login name and choose SQL Server Authentication, then set your password.
    4. Click Server Roles
    at
    the
    top-left
    corner
    and check the dbcreator box.
    5. Click Status at the top-left corner and check enabled under the login, then click ok.
    6. Click the database you want to connect during the installation of Deep Security Manager, expand the security and right click the users, then choose New User.
    7. Type your user name and login name in General page. Click Owned Schemas page and check db_owner. Also check db_owner in Membership page then click ok.
    8. Retry install Deep Security Manager.
Please follow these steps and how it works.
    Best regards,

We are upgrading our SAP Solution Manager and ran into a problem. SAP has passed it on to Microsoft because it appears to be an issue with our MS SQL data base.   So we get a question back from Microsoft that says - -
