Cover Art refresh from files

I store all my music on an external disk. A few days ago I started iTunes without that disk attached.
I have around 3000 albums/50,000 tracks - 98% of which have album art.
With that restart though, all of the album art disappeared leaving me just the generic music notes.
With Apple's recent focus on graphics in iTunes - the excellent grid view for example - I spent a lot of time last year going through each album adding decent quality album art, which iTunes then seems to have embedded in the files.
If I touch a file in an album with Get Info, iTunes remembers the album art successfully.
How can I force it to re-cache all of the others - based on whats in the files.
(Note that clearing the art out and restoring them through Get Album Art wouldn't work - these are mostly classical albums not sold through the ITMS and which i had to manually add the art in the first place),

Ok - no-one else has this problem?
One of Doug's Applescripts for iTunes - "Save Album Art to Album Folder" - may be a tedious way through this. Tedious because it can't deal with too many tracks selected at once from experience so far. The act of kicking iTunes to retrieve the album art for a track does however trigger iTunes to cache it.
I've submitted feedback to Apple on this. I'd really like to be able to reliably start my iTunes library without all the disks attached. I now run a new MBP as my main Mac - instead of a much older iMac - and need to be able to use it in both 'Home' and 'Away' modes.

  • Urgh...wrong album cover art...how do I take it off

I have?a Zen Vision M, 30gb, and I have a problem removing unwanted cover art. I suppose it's not that big of a deal in the grand scheme of things...the songs play, and they're where their supposed to be. But I find this HELLA annoying
!!! Since I've transferred a great deal of my CD collection into it, I like to organize things (and search) by album. But since I also have a lot of random songs that I have downloaded from various places, and I don't want a whole bunch of incomplete "albums" to search through, I filed them into an "album" tagged "Miscellaneous."? So last night I'm?making new tags and reorganizing some files, and when I unplug my Zen from the computer, I go into my "Miscellaneous" and see that?ALL the songs now have the cover art?from ONE of the songs in that folder. What's even stranger is that that specific?cover art doesn't even show in Windows Media Player, so I have NO idea how it became attached with all my miscellaneous songs. To top it off, I transferred some CD's into my Zen who's cover art DID show, but it doesn't come up in my Zen. To that I say "whatever"... I'd like to have the cover art, but I can li've without it. But to have the WRONG cover art for?A LOT of my songs just makes me?incredibly aggrevated!? So what can I do to remove the unwanted cover art?
Oh, and I should point out that I got my Zen when it'sfirst came out, so I have like the oldest MediaSource Organizer that doesn't support cover art.

I don't own a Vision M, but I know how my other players from Creative work. They use the ID3 tags in each track for artist, album art, etc. I use media monkey to tag all the tracks on my computer before I transfer them to the player. Here's the bad news. In my experience, you will have to remove the tracks from the player and throw them back on once they are tagged properly. I know of no way to change the tags on the players themselves. Eric

  • Creating a cover art collage

    Hi,
I am wanting to make a cover art collage from my itunes library album covers, similar to the cover art screen saver on Mac OS X.
Does anyone have any ideas about how to do this? I dont want to blend them but I was hoping there would be a quicker way then just importing all the individual files and positioning them together.
    Thanks

If you open a Word Processing document, have it text-entry mode, and then drag images into it, they will be displayed consecutively and wrapped as if they were text. I don't know whether this will be quite the effect you are looking for, but worth a try.

  • How do you delete cover art?

I ran the cover art feature and it downloaded lot of files but some of them are wrong. I went to "clear downloaded cover art" but the files won't delete. Then I went to file and and clicked "Show in Windows Explorer" I deleted all of the files but when I go back into iTunes the files come back.
      Windows XP Pro

First turn off "Automatically download missing album artwork" in iTunes' Preferences->General tab. Then do the "clear downloaded artwork" command.
Of course, if you turn that option on again it will likely download the same incorrect image. So before you activate it again, grab the correct image yourself from http://www.allmusic.com/ and attach it to the file(s). iTunes won't "automatically" download the wrong cover if you manually put the right cover in place first.

  • Why are iOS 8 and cover art incompatible?

    Hi All,
First up let me apologise in advance about the quality of the photos i have attached but I think you will get the drift.
The examples immediately below are all taken from DVDs that I have converted to MPEG files and loaded into iTunes
I have installed iOS 8 on my iPad Air only. I discovered that it and cover art for movies and tv shows seem to be incompatible. Instead of the cover art there is a grey square with the title of the TV show in very small font in the middle.
This is what it looks like. Yes I know that is not grey. When opened there are another 3 grey squares.
The 3 squares represent 3 consecutive series
Then a series is selected, more grey squares. 3 episodes, it was a short season.
The two attachments below are what it looks like on the computer and what it looked like on the iPad before I updated to iOS 8
    ================================================================================ =========================================
    Now something a bit different.
The following programme was bought and downloaded from  iTunes. There is only one episode. I missed it when it was shown on TV.
The cover art seems normal.                                                                               When the programme is opened there is still a grey area though.
It seems that if a programme with only one episode is added to iTunes the normal cover art is displayed. This is the case with movies. Even the movies that i have converted to MPEG files and loaded into iTunes displays normal cover art until the file is opened.
    ================================================================================ ========================================
I have tried only 2 remedies. I deleteted some cover art and put it back. Then I made the supreme sacrifice and re-installed iOS 8 which meant i had to start from scratch again. Failed to fix the problem. I do not intend updating my iPhone. I have an iPhone 6 Plus on order and if it arrives before Yosemite is released I will be putting it in the drawer until Yosemite is released.
That is all I can think of, wait for iOS 8.0.1 and hope that it fixes things or wait until Yosemite is released and see what happens. I realise I won't have any options O/S wise when i start using the iPhone 6 Plus.
Cover art is also behaving strangely when music playlists are selected. iPhoto on the iPad does not work any more either. Have to wait for "Photo" on Yosemite.

Thanks muchly Jonathan. Mostly worked for Cadfael except when i got to step 3, selecting episodes there were still 3 grey rectangles. having established that it basically worked i didn't try any more. Can't help wondering why it's not a problem with the movies though.
Thanks again Jonathan, looks much better now
    Cheers :-)

  • Cover art is erroneous for some songs, please advise?

I have a few songs, (not many, but I haven't counted) out of my small collection of 4200 ot songs with the wrong album cover art.  From a totally different album.. by a different band.. Has anyone else experienced this problem?.. What is the solution?.. Can I manually delete individual song artwork renderings when the album is incorrect?

    You can
double-click the album so that all the tracks are listed
then highlight a track with the correct artwork
right-click the now-playing window to copy the artwork
highlight the track with the incorrect artwork
    right-click the now-playing window and
    paste the correct artwork in.

  • Cover art in New Zealand?

Does anyone know if it is possible to view cover art in countries that don't yet have the iTunes Music Store (such as New Zealand)?
I was able to use CoverFlow (where the cover art came from Amazon or Google or drag-and-drop).
I'm surprised that I can't use this feature because there is no Music Store here.
    Thanks,
    Galen

This has been resolved with the introduction of Apple New Zealand and the iTunes New Zealand music store a few months ago.

  • I've always wanted to obtain and have perfect resolutioned cover art for my albums. I have been and downloaded albums from the iTunes store, and they come with really great cover art. How can I get cover art as precise and clean as the albums have on ther

My problem mainly concerns cover art.
There have been times when I downloaded albums from the iTunes store to find its cover art it is absolutely beautiful, and is absolutely 100% un stretched. Whereas when I have gotten images for a specific album from Google Images it's terribly pixelated and totally disgusting.
Is there a way for me to obtain cover art for my albums that is has clarity equal to the cover art on the iTunes store albums.
Or will it basically boil down to I can only get that cover art by downloading my albums off the store?

    robcharlus wrote:
The old iTunes libraries do not restore any playlists or song counts.
They should you if you do the roll back properly... Opening files from the Previous iTunes Libraries folder in Windows Explorer simply opens the current library. If you don't see the .itl file extension then don't give your copied and renamed file the extention or iTunes will create an empty library rather than using the renamed file.
If you had a complete pre-problem backup of your library you could restore that. On the assumption that isn't possible I have a script called ExportImport that could in principle be adjusted to save the relevant data from a backup of the library database and then reimport that data into the current library. See this thread for details.

  • When I download a movie from iTunes the cover art disappears. I try get info and add the art, it doesn't show up. So it's just gray. It opens and plays fine. Apple can't figure it out. It's an nas drive. When I use a firewire drive I get the art

When I download movies from iTunes to my NAS drive, I don't get the cover art. It shows up while its downloading, but when it's finish it disappears. If it has an iTunes extra the cover art is there. I tried get info and add the cover art, it never shows. Regardless of how I add it. Funny thing is, if I download the same movie to my external firewire drive, no problem its there. I've called Apple with no success. I've even tried copying the movie with the art from the firewire drive to replace the file on then NAS drive I still loose the movie cover art. I also tried several times to re download it, no luck. Any ideas? I'm out of ideas.

Do you have any videos/movies in the video app?
In iTunes if you right click on the video and select Get Info and go to the Option tap what Media Type is shown?

  • Refreshing Movie Cover Art?

I have my Apple TV wirelessly connected in streaming mode. I add new cover artwork to my ripped movies in Itunes along with the movie info but I'm having problems getting the displayed cover art to update on Apple TV. Shouldn't Apple TV automatically detect that the cover art and movie info has been updated or is there a procedure for getting it to refresh that info? Thanks for any help you can give..

I am very impressed with the ATV and have succesfully
recoded DVD's using Nero Premium 7, The quality is
great and I cannot tell the difference of a DVD
played rom my Denon. Unfortunately I cannot change
the Artwork which has been selected from the first
frame of the DVD. I have followed all the
instructions, right clicked info, deleted artwork,
browsed to new artwork downloaded from Amazon and it
appears to replace the image. If I select the general
tab it shows the new artwork, but as soon as I click
on OK the Artwork reverts back to the original!
Help, I am an advanced PC and MAC user but this
    currently has me baffled!
I am wondering if it is the program used to encode is somehow affecting how iTunes deals with the artwork?
Since you are a Mac user, could you try using MediaFork or something similar and see if the artwork is an issue there as well?
Also, could you try iTunes installed on a different computer (preferably fresh)?
I have a fairly large and old iTunes library running on my Intel iMac and use primarily MTR -> MediaFork, or just MediaFork, and I have been able to add art to all so far...

  • Bridge for Mac without cover arts from iTunes

    Hello,
I just upraded to Sony Bridge for Mac 3.9 (3903) and since then no cover art from iTunes albums is displayed any more.
Previous Version of the Bridge had already some difficulties with Cover Art, mainly regarding TIFF-images. But now
    nothing at all is displayed.
Of course I have restarted the application as well as the Mac itself - no change of the behaviour occured.
Do I still have any options to try?
    with best regards
    Matthias
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Hello,
I have mostly MP3-Files in my iTunes library (90%). Even purchased songs are converted to MP3 because of the higher compression, even with 160 kbit/s and VBR. But I think regarding coverart the graphics format is more important. Here native Apple cover art seems to be generally TIFF, which sometimes makes problems with Bridge for Mac, esp. larger images. If I convert those large TIFF-images to JPEG, the problems disappear most of the times.
And "Yes", I sent a bug report to SONY directly.
Thank you very much - Matthias

  • Before I was able to transfer Cover Art from on-line sources to albums that iTunes didn't have (even when many of these were purchased thru them!) now I can't. If it still possible how do I do so?

Before, I was able to transfer Album Cover Art from on-line sources to albums that iTunes didn't have (even tho several were purchased thru them!) now I can't. If it is still possible, how do I do so?

    Hey Two Wolves,
Thanks for the question. Yes, you can still add your own Album Artwork to music in iTunes:
iTunes 11 for Windows: Add artwork to songs and other items
    http://support.apple.com/kb/PH12361
Add artwork to music and video
    Do any of the following:
    - Add artwork to one item at a time:
              1. Select an item in your iTunes library and choose File > Get Info.
              2. Click Artwork and do one of the following:
                        - Click Add, select an image file, and click Open.
                        - Drag the art file to the artwork area.
              3. To add artwork to another item, click Next or Previous.
    - Add the same artwork to multiple items: Select the items, choose File > Get Info, click Info, and drag an image file to the Artwork area.
    - Retrieve album artwork for songs in your library from the iTunes Store: Control-click the songs and choose Get Album Artwork from the pop-up menu.
    Thanks,
    Matt M.

  • Help with add cover art by saving a file as preview.jpg

I need help. Im new to mac and have all my movie files on my external drive. I found out how to make an alias folder and it works great in Front Row. But when I look at the movie in Front Row. All I see is a blue folder. I read another post stating that it can be done and this is what I got,
Front Row in Leopard supports playing VIDEO_TS folders. You can also add cover art by saving a file as preview.jpg in the parent directory. The folder structure would be like the following.
/Users/fred/Movies/The Day the Earth Stood Still/VIDEO_TS/
/Users/fred/Movies/The Day the Earth Stood Still/preview.jpg
But how do I save it this way? Thanks guys and girls!

!!! But how do I save it this way? Thanks guys and girls!
That other post looks like one I wrote. I am note sure what you are stuck on, except perhaps you are not using VIDEO_TS folders.
The normal location for Front Row to look for movies is /Users/yourname/Movies in that movies folder you can put either movie files, or folders containing movie files, or aliases to folders containing movie files (which might via the alias be on another hard drive).
If you are using video files e.g. an AVI, or MPG, or MOV then these normally should be added in to iTunes and Front Row can access them via the iTunes library. iTunes will then let you set a 'poster' frame for the movie.
If the movie is a full VIDEO_TS (i.e. a copy of a DVD) then you cannot add these to iTunes and you cannot set a poster frame. Therefore Front Row which in Leopard now supports playing VIDEO_TS folders has provided another mechanism to provide a poster for each VIDEO_TS movie, which is the previously mentioned preview.jpg file.
This literally is just a standard JPG file, I get most of mine from Amazon.com to match the DVD covers, but some people prefer using movie posters rather than DVD covers, and in that case you could try getting a suitable JPG from http://www.impawards.com/
So, in /Users/yourname/Movies you would either create a folder for each movie (VIDEO_TS) like the following
/Users/yourname/Movies/The Day the Earth Stood Still/
    /Users/yourname/Movies/Soylent Green/
    /Users/yourname/Movies/Forbidden Planet/
or you would put an alias in Movies to a folder on another drive containing individual folders for each movie, I will use italics to represent an alias
    /Users/yourname/Movies/MovieDrive/
MovieDrive would then contain folders for each movie
/MovieDrive/The Day the Earth Stood Still/
    /MovieDrive/Soylent Green/
    /MovieDrive/Forbidden Planet/
Each movie folder e.g. "The Day the Earth Stood Still" would contain firstly a JPG file called "preview.jpg" which would be your poster or DVD cover image, and also the VIDEO_TS folder which is a copy of the DVD.
/MovieDrive/The Day the Earth Stood Still/preview.jpg
/MovieDrive/The Day the Earth Stood Still/VIDEO_TS/
    /MovieDrive/Soylent Green/preview.jpg
    /MovieDrive/Soylent Green/VIDEO_TS/
    /MovieDrive/Forbidden Planet/preview.jpg
    /MovieDrive/Forbidden Planet/VIDEO_TS/
Note: VIDEO_TS is the standard folder name used on DVDs and you have to keep that name so that Front Row know it is from a DVD and therefore how to play it, however in order to let Front Row list them under individual names you put the VIDEO_TS folder inside a folder which would be the Movie name, as shown above.
In Front Row you would select "Movies" this lists the contents of
    /Users/yourname/Movies
If you have put an alias in Movies it would list this as a folder which in Front Row you would select. Front Row would then list all the movie folders you have created and it would automatically see the preview.jpg files and VIDEO_TS folders in each movie folder you have created. Front Row would then know to display as a poster the preview.jpg when you highlight each movie folder.

  • ITunes 7.71 problem with cover art for 24 bit AIFF files

I am unable to add cover art to 24 bit AIFF files. Was able to do this with iTunes 7.7.

I think I have discovered the same problem (no solution, unfortunately, though) working with some shared files from GarageBand, which I believe are 24 bit AIFF at this point. I will have to check when I get back to the computer with my stuff on it, but at least I don't think I'm going crazy when I tried to save.
I could put artwork into the "info" area, and it would stay there so long as the track was playing, but once the track re-played, the artwork was gone. I have even synched my iPod and iPhone, and the artwork has shown there, but I have to try synching when the track is NOT playing to see if it is only capturing the artwork while it's on the file. But, I thought that was weird as well.
I will keep coming back here until hopefully a solution is posted. Here. Or somewhere. Any similar experiences, please also post. I feel better knowing others are experiencing the same or differing but similar difficulties.
