Cover Art Troubles in iTunes

Hi! I have an iPod Touch 4G and face a following trouble:
I have album covers in my media but can't see them in my iPod when browse it through iTunes. Still, they are seen in iPod itself. How do I fix that? Everything worked nice until I installed ios3 and iTunes 10.
Also, when I try to attach a cover directly to iPod manually it is not whown in iTunes, but appears in iPod. It is iTunes for Windows.
Thank you!

I don't use automatic sync, because my collection is too big. Did I understand you right?
I actually had to resync the system before installing the latest iOS
UPD: I checked the preferences and found out that automatic sync was prohibited. Turned it on, wating for some results
No result. I must add that I do not have copies of files in the iTunes Media folder. Can it be the reason? The thing is that it worked properly until I have updated iTunes and iOS. Maybe I have to reinstall iTunes?

  • MAJOR Cover Art bugs in iTunes 7.x.x

Here are some interesting observations in discovering MAJOR Cover Art bugs in iTunes 7.x.x
    1. Importing CDs
If you import a CD, you must wait for complete import to finish in hopes that all songs will populate successfully with cover art. Even here, success is random.
If you request cover art during the import, there are mixed results.
iTunes should be smart enough to detect if any album exists with partial cover art in the library database, then those tracks with missing cover art will be automatically detected and updated.
    2. Missing Cover Art
    This occurs on 2 levels:
    a. iTunes Store may just not have cover art for some (older) albums
    b. iTunes Store does find the cover art, but it is not applied to *all tracks* on the album
    The workarounds bring mixed results.
I have resorted to the "Get Info" approach and pasted cover art to random album tracks where cover art was only partly applied by iTunes.
In other cases, I scanned in the CD cover and applied it to albums where iTunes found no cover art. I assumed this would be a one-time fix as I expected some minimal tweaking would be involved in managing cover art.
No such luck! Here is why iTunes cover art represents a MAJOR bug in version 7.x.x
Day 1: I spend many hours tweaking and fine-tuning the cover art, assuming iTunes will "save" all my work. I browse different albums/tracks and everything looks great!
Day 2: Looks like iTunes only "saved" some of this effort. Sure enough, certain complete albums and random tracks from other albums now show NO cover art! How frustrating!
    * * * Here is what is MORE DISTURBING about this Cover Art bug! * * *
I resort to thinking about more workarounds, and here are the results:
Hmmmm. Looks like if I paste in the Cover Art twice on certain album tracks, the Cover Art is now applied to that track. Meaning, if you do a "Get Info" on a track, you will see two pastes in the Cover Art tab, yes, you add the cover art twice, one cover next to the other so as to force that album track to get the cover art to attach. On the surface, this seemed to work, and all album tracks now seem populated with Cover Art and the effort appears "saved" when I revisit the album on Day 2.
But all is not what it appears. The trick of adding missing cover art twice, in the hopes that an album and/or certain random album tracks might adopting the cover art you are trying to assign will produce the following:
IT ACTUALLY AFFECTS THE AUDIO TRACK!!!!
Multiple attempts to add/fix cover art will ADD TO TRACK DURATION, such that when you play a track, the lead-in portion of the lyrics (say first 10 secs or so) will REPEAT in as many times as you tried to add the cover art!!!!
Thinking this might be a corrupt library database, I even deleted the database, started over, and while adding missing cover art, was able to reproduce the lyrics repeating on those tracks where the cover art was added (pasted) twice. You can HEAR and see the increased track duration in iTunes 7.x.x
MAJOR Cover Art bug!!! So you are not alone. And besides all the wasted hours trying to fix this, I say wait for iTunes 8.x
Please post and let me know if you have had the same experience with this cover art bug and similar workarounds.
C'mon Apple! PLEASE FIX THIS. What gives?

You can tell iTunes to "Clear Downloaded Artwork" to get rid of the wrong image.
Getting iTunes to select the correct image, especially for compilations can be quite frustrating. I've been slowly cleaning up some old artwork from when iTunes could not pull artwork from the iTunes Store for music from other sources. I've learned to check the album in question by using the iTunes Store link in iTunes - I figure if it goes right the the album I'm all set - Wrong! Today I'm doing battle with a bunch of "20th Century Masters - The Millennium Collection" albums. I can go through the album song by song and every one goes right to the correct album - but when I "Get Album Artwork" it still may not find the album or will pull in volume 2 instead of volume 1, etc. I've tried making sure my albums names are exact matches to the iTunes store with the same bad results.
It really seems like iTunes uses a different search method for artwork than for the iTunes Store link. At least Google has an image search...

  • Cover Art Problems with iTunes Library on a NAS

I have my iTunes library stored on a Synology NAS.  I use a networked Mac Mini as a dedicated iTunes player, I set it up so the Mac Mini finds my iTunes library on the NAS.  The cover art for all of my movies that I ripped from my home DVD collection shows up fine in iTunes.  But the cover art for movies that I downloaded from iTunes does not show up, either in iTunes on my Mac Mini, or on my AppleTV (2nd Gen).  I suspect the problem comes from the fact that I keep the iTunes library in a separate place (on the NAS) rather than on the computer that runs iTunes.  Is there a fix to this?

I'm having troubles with my Itunes in combination with the synology server as well...
I'm getting audio from the server, all of this is working great.... But I'm not getting any cover art! I'm also not getting the optn to view the info of tracks. This is all working when I'm listing to track placed on my Mac in stead of the server.
Could you help me setting up de synology? Is there any structure neccesary on the server? Could you send me a screen grab of yours?

  • Dragging cover art wont work. iTunes rejects it!

I want to get artwork for the music i bought on cd and downloaded to my ipod but iTunes rejects it! why even buy the 6th gen if u cant see the album covers anyways. its really rediculous because i bought the songs but i dont wanna buy them twice! Why do they do this? I buy iTunes music all the time and i think i should be able to put whatever cover art i want on it. i hate that dumb music note!

What are you doing exactly?  Where are you dragging this artwork from? Have you tried saving a local copy on your machine and then using the Add button to browse out and select the artwork?

  • I've always wanted to obtain and have perfect resolutioned cover art for my albums. I have been and downloaded albums from the iTunes store, and they come with really great cover art. How can I get cover art as precise and clean as the albums have on ther

My problem mainly concerns cover art.
There have been times when I downloaded albums from the iTunes store to find its cover art it is absolutely beautiful, and is absolutely 100% un stretched. Whereas when I have gotten images for a specific album from Google Images it's terribly pixelated and totally disgusting.
Is there a way for me to obtain cover art for my albums that is has clarity equal to the cover art on the iTunes store albums.
Or will it basically boil down to I can only get that cover art by downloading my albums off the store?

The old iTunes libraries do not restore any playlists or song counts.
They should you if you do the roll back properly... Opening files from the Previous iTunes Libraries folder in Windows Explorer simply opens the current library. If you don't see the .itl file extension then don't give your copied and renamed file the extention or iTunes will create an empty library rather than using the renamed file.
If you had a complete pre-problem backup of your library you could restore that. On the assumption that isn't possible I have a script called ExportImport that could in principle be adjusted to save the relevant data from a backup of the library database and then reimport that data into the current library. See this thread for details.

  • Movies do not run and cover art is missing in iTunes Mac after sync with iPad

I down load purchased movies from Apple to my iPad.  The movies runs fine and cover art is visible.  Great.  However, after I sync with my Mac Mini, the cover art on my iPad is missing.  The cover art in the iTunes library on my Mac Mini is missing, and the movies won't run on the Mac Mini.  Whe I re-sync, I get a message that says the movie can't sync because it can't be found.

Is your album cover issue resolved?
If not, have you perhaps tried to disable iTunes Match on your iPhone (in Settings) and signed out of your Apple ID (on the phone)? This might work.
The issue seems to be that the iTunes Match server does not update all the tracks with the new album cover art, particularly if you added the covers some time after importing the CD's (remember then that there was no cover art on some of them!)
Another possible solution is to rename the iTunes database (.itl file) by appending say "old" (without the quotes) and recreate a new one with maybe 1 or 2 albums, wait for the server to match the tracks (you can check on your iPhone after disabling and then re-enabling iTunes Match on the phone), then delete the 1 or 2 albums so that the iTunes music library is empty and wait again; you can check the iPhone again.
Finally, quit iTunes, delete the latest database and rename the original database with its original name (by removing the "old" appendage).
Then let iTunes Match reload the server with all the information: this might take a few minutes (hours?) depending on the size of the library.
In the meantime you can remove all the music on the iPhone by disabling iTunes Match in the phone's settings.

  • Cover art lost in Finder

Since installing iTunes 9.0.2, I have no cover art in Music/iTunes in Finder.
The cover art exists in iTunes but not in Finder, there I get a generic iTunes folder with the music note.
Now, if I choose a tune in iTunes and choose "Show in Finder" a finder window comes up and all the songs in that folder populate with the correct icons in the Finder window. But once I close it and open a new Finder window, they're gone again?

  • My Cover Art for our podcast isn't showing up

We've tried everything, and it seems to be linked in there as much as it can be, but it just won't show up in the itunes store. I've put the link to our feed below
    http://chunkyglasses.com/podcastjournal/rss.xml
This is coming out of Squarespace, and they are telling me that everything is OK with the feed, so I don't know why it just won't work. Maybe run it through feedburner and try and submit that?
    Help!

    Roger,
So it didn't show up, and i've resubmitted the feed. I've tried to get an answer from Apple but they keep pushing me back to the FAQ. Is this the correct tag for the cover art image?

  • Changing cover art

There was recently a similar thread to this one where apparently the iTunes store was updating the cover art on tunes. Turning this option off in Preferences fixed the problem.
However, I have a different problem. This Preference is turned off for me, and I'm seeing the problem with albums I have imported into iTunes from CDs or from downloads.
The problem I am seeing is that if there is already cover art associated with a tune, there doesn't seem to be a way to replace it. If I drag a new image to the cover-art display in iTunes, it appears to "take" and the dialog that shows the selected tunes being updated displays as if the new artwork is being associated with the tunes. Even the image in the "Selected item" window for artwork shows the new artwork. But if I navigate away from the currently selected tunes, then back to any of them. the old artwork I was trying to replace reappears.
Does anyone have a suggestion for how I can permanently replace artwork previously associated with tunes?
    Thanks,
    -P.

I assume here you are talking about the podcast image, which appears on the iTunes Store page for your podcast? (Strictly, 'cover art' is the image embedded in the mp3 file which appears when you subscribe - just to be sure we are talking about the same thing).
It may be that, having made the change, the Store will pick it up without any further intervention on your part: it may take a few days. If it doesn't work, then you should rename the image and reload it to a different location for example make a folder at the same level it originally was and place the renamed image in it): amend the feed accordingly and reupload it: again, it may take a few days to pick up.

  • How do I add Cover art

How to I make cover art viewable in iTunes after the podcast has downloaded

You'll need to add the image to your id3 tag before you upload it to your server.
Easiest way to do it with iTunes, is to import the podcast into iTunes. Go to recently added right click on the episode>get info> click the tab that says Artwork then add. Then you can upload it to your server and it will be attached to your podcast.
Only problem is you need to do this for every show.
    Hope that helped.

  • HT1758 iTunes not transferring my own cover art to my iPhone.

I have been having trouble, within the last month, with iTunes transferring my own cover art to my iPhone.  I used to be able to attach any cover art that I wanted and it would transfer without any problem.  Nw the only cover art that will transfer is only the cover art that iTunes provides.  Is there a setting I need to change?

All the artwork did transfer, even got a few new ones that I didn't have. Before I did a sync with the new imac, my phone had all the cover art on it. Now that I transferred everything with homesharing, I did a sync and it said it had to replace everything. Now all the music is on my phone, but with no cover art except for the ones I downloaded through itunes.

I don't quite understand why you have asked me about why I'm keeping my URL secret?
It's only that I'm not clear why you are reluctant to post it. If you have a podcast in the iTunes Store then it's there for the world to see - they might search on its subject or title, for example, even if they don't actually know about it from you. If you look at other posts in this forum you will see that usually people post their URLs and then I can examine the feed and hopefully find out from that what the problem is. Without this information no-one can give you anything more than wild guesses.

  • I am a PC user using 3 PCs w/ iTunes Match. 2 of my PCs sync fine, but my new PC (used to remove duplicates, cover art, update playlists) does not sync with Match. Whats the problem?

So, to begin I own 3 PCs and the latest iPad/iPhone running iTunes on all 3 PCs. For simplicity, I will refer to the PCs as old, laptop, and new.
My laptop was my primary PC which i used to set up iTunes match. The old PC had all of my music files which have appeared to have been uploaded to Match. Note that I had already transferred most (if not all) of the music to my laptop but I enabled match so that I could download new files to my old PC. Note that I did quite a bit of cleaning, retagging, and ordering files and that I was told by Apple that Match would recognize duplicates, and as such, would not upload these files to the cloud in Match (this does not appear to be the case, however). My laptop PC (originally set up on Match) indicates there are alot of files in the clould (Match) to download. These seem to be duplicate files which were already cleaned on the Laptop and were uploaded on the old PC machine. Thus, it appears that Apples matching alogorythm is not strong enough to detect minor differences (i.e. cover art) in files and decides to upload them anyway (quite annonying if you ask me).
Now, to my problem; I purchased a new PC and have been removing the last duplicate songs, updating cover-art, playlists, among other things. My new PC (which I will refer to as "new") is not recognized by iTunes Match. I have tried uninstalling each app associated with iTunes, starting fresh with a new playlist and library to no avail.
Has anyone else had this problem? Apple Care does not seem to have much knowledge about Match, which is a bit frustrating. All I wish to do is tell Match that my New PC should be the primary PC which will be used to deliver playlists, music, etc since the other 2 machines have many duplicates and the playlists have errors within them. I thought about these solutions (none of which are no appealing) 1) using the laptop as my primary iTunes Match PC since this was the PC Match was created on (this would require rebuilding playlists and removing a massive amount of duplicates, again), 2) creating a new iTunes Match account based on my New PC (basically starting over), 3) forgetting Match all together and going back to the old school store & sync.
Anyone have better ideas or experiencing similar issues? Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thx!

After going by elimination to isolate if the problem was from (1) iTunes app, (2) my computer or (3) my old iPhone 4G, I figured out what my problem was.
    1) First I deleted & reinstalled iTunes on my Windows PC without succes, my playlist did not changed on my iPhone.
    2) I tested a successful #sync from the iMac at work.
So my conclusion is: The hard drive on my Windows PC is full and that is affecting iTunes SYNC functionalities.
So I'll do a back-up then run a "Clean Install" of my Windows OS, hoping that it will fix my SYNC problems.

  • LP Cover Art Shows Up In iTunes, Not Always On Apple TV

When I started using Apple TV on Sunday I realized that some of my fave LP's have low-res LP art which looks awful on the LCD HDTV.
So I went into iTunes, highlighted the 12 songs on "Rubber Soul", right clicked for "get info", checked the box for "artwork", left it blank, and hit update. That removed the artwork from the MP3's. Next, I went to Amazon, found a hi-res image, and dragged it into the same "artwork" box in iTunes which loaded the better image into all 12 songs. Spent 3 hours repeating this process for about 500 songs, pulling some of the artwork from iTunes own "get album artwork" option.
They look great in iTunes, problem is now instead of fuzzy low-res images in Apple TV I have no images whatsoever. This is happening about half the time. This is happening for both artwork I pulled down from the internet (Amazon) and artwork I pulled down directly from iTunes ("get album artwork").
Yes, I sync'd (multiple times) to try to correct the problem.
Any ideas? Anyone know why some of the artwork made it over to aTV perfectly and some of the artwork didn't? And, importantly, what the fix is?

You can download the program: Album Art Cover Downloader ver 1.6 from the net. Use the program to delete your currently installed covers. Then use that program to find the album art with higher pixels (at least 300X300). Then open itunes and find the songs you just updated. Right click on get info.. then go through each song with the art work highlighted - itunes has to reread each song tag. Then synch with apple tv and voila - artwork in much improved definition.
