Cover flow all wrong

Hi there, I've just bought an ipod Classic 120gb and everything's fine aside from having 40 odd albums at the end of the cover flow completely out of alphabetical order. Some are compilations but most aren't and nothing that I've read on this problem seems to help at all; for instance Abba 'Gold' is at the back but under file and get info it's down as Abba artist Abba blah blah so why is not first in the list? This isn't 'Apple' surely, please help...

There are two likely causes for the symptoms you decribe, detailed in the two sections of the post I pointed out. First make sure the album is not marked as Compilation. Select all the tracks of one of the problem albums, Get info. then on the options tab make sure *Part of a compilation* reads No, tick the checkbox even if it already says No. Click OK. I don't use my iPod in manual mode but I presume iTunes will do tag modifications in manual mode. Second possibility revolves around the various "Sort" fields which can be used to override the natural sorting order for albums and artists. Take *The Clash* for example. iTunes will normally set a Sort Artist value of "Clash" so the band is listed under C instead of T. You can put your own value for sort artist, e.g. "ZZZZ Clash", would normally force them towards the end of Cover flow or the Artists menu. Check what values, if any, these fields have to see if they could be causing the problem. It might also pay to reset your ipod as this will sometimes fix errors in the way it lists things.

Cover flow gone wrong

Hi,
I'm really confused as to why my cover flow has become very distorted. Everything else on my iTunes is fine apart from when I view my album covers in cover flow all I get is a mass of black, white and colored lines. Even the scroll bar and text at the bottom is like this. The problem also occours when I try to view previews of films in the iTunes store. I have tried re-installing the new version of iTunes, deleting all the album covers and putting them back on again and even deleting my entire music library from my computer. However it does not affect my iPod touch's cover flow. Can anybody help me fix it!???

Cover Flow showing wrong artwork, Now Playing showing right!

I am going to lose my mind if I don't get this figured out.
I have several files in my iTunes that show the wrong artwork in the Cover Flow. They show the correct artwork in Now Playing, as well as when I go to Get Info. The correct artwork is there, and it is the only artwork there (i.e., there aren't two different images there).
What in the world am I doing wrong, and how can I fix this? I thought at one point it had something to do with marking something as part of a compilation, but I've unmarked anything that was marked as such but it didn't help...

At some level iTunes sorts & groups tracks on the basis of a bunch of fields, i.e. track no. disc no. album, artist, album artist, sort album, sort artist, sort album artist & the compilation flag. (I think that's all of them.) If you have a bunch of tracks with no album name and marked as a compilation it's probably a good bet to assume they are all part of the same album. In cover flow iTunes only shows one item of art for each album hence the effect you see.
To use the old maxim, +it's not a fault, it's a feature+.

Cover Flow shows wrong covers since iOS 4.3

Since I updated my iPhone 4 to iOS 4.3 the covers shown in Cover Flow are totally messed up, most of the covers are wrong. When I start a track and rotate the iPhone back to its normal position the right cover shows up. Also when I do not use Cover Flow and scroll through the albums normally (holding the iPhone vertically) every cover is correct.
Something seems to be wrong with the Cover Flow feature. Syncing and rebooting the iPhone didn't help. Although it might solve the problem I'm not willing to restore the iPhone.

I have this same problem and noticed it after "upgrading" to iOS 4.3 on my iPod Touch 4th gen. Various albums have swapped and incorrect cover art — some albums that can't even have cover art (WAV files) are showing others' cover art.
Resets haven't helped me, nor has delete all music and re-sync. This is really annoying, and I hope Apple fixes it soon!

How do I stop my itunes albums in cover flow from being split up?

It gets a little confusing- for every possible view of the albums, except cover flow, all of the tracks in one album are clustered together- it works fine.
when I search for a term in cover flow that would only bring up one album as a result, it comes up as just one album- this is great.
But- when I search for a common album title term, or if I view every album together, the different albums randomly get split up.
Example: If I search "machine" in cover flow, the albums "extraordinary machine" and "lungs" (by Florence+ the machine) each get split up 5 times (5 of the same picture, about 2-5 songs under each picture). But, when I search "Florence" I get all the tracks from "lungs" under one picture. (because that is the only result)
Question: How do I stop this from happening? Its not really affecting anything, it's just inconvenient and flustering.

No, an external drive will not always be mounted. If the drive goes to sleep, it can unmount, or it may unmount for other reasons. As Chris said, confim that the drive is mounted and active before launching iTunes.

View by cover flow not working in Itunes 8.1

Hi all, I don't know what's Happened but view by cover flow has stopped working for some reason . view by list & view by grid still works but when i goto select view by cover flow, all I get is a blank screen where the albums should be & a empty space at the bottom. When I first installed Itunes & Quick time, view by cover flow was working. I havent used it tho for a couple of weeks then thought i'll try it again & now nothing. Is there a fix I can try to get it back to the way it was before it stopped working? It doesn't affect the use of Itunes in any way, (I can still sync to my 32gig Ipod touch no problem) but as I do use view by cover flow, I miss it & having to use view by grid & the moment (just means a double click on the album to see the tracks that's all), Yes all my drivers & directx are up to date & Itunes & quicktime are the latest versions. So I found out how to clean this up. Make sure to replace "USER_NAME" with the right account name.
1. Remove Itunes, Quicktime, and Apple Mobile device Support.
2. Reboot PC
3. Delete C:\Program Files\Itunes Directory
4. Delete C:\Document and Settings\USER_NAME\Application Data\Apple Computer
5. Delete C:\Document and Settings\USER_NAME\Local Settings\Application Data\Apple Computer
6. Delete C:\Document and Settings\USER_NAME\Local Settings\Application Data\Apple
7. Reboot
8. Reinstall Itunes
This reset all of the settings and brought back the cover flow as well as keeping my existing files.
Obviously there was a easier way of doing this.. but a full clean install helps.

Cover Flow up and visible, but no movement when trying to scroll

Ok, So I looked through the forum, ran a search topic and found several references to Cover Flow, but nothing that quite matched my situation.
I just downloaded and installed Safari 4. Started it up, choose to activate the cover flow option.
It comes up on the screen (no fully viewable pages, but they seem to be added as I visit them). However I cannot get the pages to flow through to be viewed.
I can click on one side arrow or the other and the highlight bar on the list moves, but not the visual pages. Same result with the sideways scroll. I looked through help and I can (and do) use cover flow all the time on my iTunes, so it should be working in Safari 4, yes? But it's not.
Any ideas how to correct this?

Hi,
Did it when I got home from work. No joy. Decided to download the program (I originally got it by way of the software update), deleted whatever references I could find to Safari including old installers/programs. Went to all the places you suggested originally to try removing and trashed them basically tried to clean the computer of all reference to Safari.
Re installed, and believe it or not all my bookmarks came back though I had reset the safari completely so my keychain is wiped. Sigh.... We I'll just have to re-enter them all (hope I can remember them... grin). The silver lining though is I've gotten rid of the flotsam in the key chain.
The cloud to that silver lining is still no joy with the cover flow. I also just thought about this, but in the top sites on my main account, nothing automatically highlights when I run my cursor over it. It never has. But in the second user I created I have Cover Flow without problem, and on Top Site it came up with a generic list supplied by Apple that not only highlights when the cursor runs over the pane, but at the bottom the URL of the site comes up as well. Not so on the main user.
I know it will be a pain, I'm not even sure HOW I would go about migrating all of my original user stuff into the secondary, but I'm getting tempted to do that.
Or maybe I'll just delete it and put the old version in if I could figure out how to find an older version. I know others have asked to do that since they just don't care for even the working version, but I must confess I'm a bit ticked if I have to do that since I really like the idea of the Cover Flow and Top Sites.
Where would I find a fix if it ever came out later?

What happened to Cover Flow in iTunes 11?

This upgrade is not as good than iTunes 10 was. I used cover Flow all the time an now it´s gone. How can I downgrade to iTunes 10 till Apple implements Cover Flow again in a new release of iTunes?

Totally agree! I downloaded latest i-tunes - and how I wish I could take back that moment.
I have thousands of music files and I used to be able to see them as a split List and Cover Flow which was perfect for flicking between Album/Artist/ Name etc whilst being able to scroll through the visual reference of Album Covers.
Something that all lovers of music have enjoyed for years. It echoed the experience of rifling through record collections.
i-Tunes used to be good for archiving all my music in a relatively user friendly format.
Why have they dumped this format!
Please bring back Cover Flow!

Cover Flow displays multiple copies of certain albums

I've tried everything to get it to stop doing this. All the tags are exactly the same, and it displays as one album in grid view, but in cover flow, all the songs are separated. Any ideas?

So in your case, highlight all the tracks, right-click > Get Info > Options tab
Check off "part of a compilation" and save the changes. Then go back and uncheck compilations and save it again. Sometimes that comp thing fixes it for me.

Cover flow questions

Just picked up the new (3G) ATV. Not a fan of the new UI, but that's for another thread.
I'm home sharing with my Mac Mini library. On the home screen, it shows a cover flow of you libeary's titles.
1. How does the ATV decide what (movies, music) is being shown for cover flow?
2. I have a large number of movies, yet cover flow only offers me the first 25. For anything else, I have to select the Computers button and browse movies directly. I'd like to be able to cover flow all my movies. Any ideas?

Unfortunately it's not possible, at least not yet. I have absolutely no idea why Apple hasn't incorporated such an obvious feature into the Apple TV, but I wish they would smarten up and do it already. The only thing you can really do is suggest it as a feature. We can only hope a future update to Apple TV will include this feature.

What's wrong with my iPod's Cover Flow??

I have an iPod Touch 3rd Gen, 32Gb, and recently updated to IOS 5.
Since then, the iPod's cover flow feature is extremely slow, doesn't flow smoothly, and crashes after a few (15-20) seconds.
Today I noted something else: some album covers appear pixelated and blurry, even though HD. Those covers looked just fine until now.
As a side note, I have in use 30 of the 32 Gb (that's a lot of music, I know). Could this be related? I never had those problems before IOS 5, though.
What's wrong with my iPod?

so as I see it people with this problem have 3 options
- Make all of your album art a maximum of 500X500 pixels
- Wait for an IOS update that fixes the problem
- Scrap ipods and buy another brand of music player
Using photoshop to do it with, it took me about an hour to resize, change, and resync all of my 1400 songs(86 albums)

Cover Flow in the wrong order

I have had my Ipod Touch for about a week now, and I have about 1000 songs on there. I love using 'Cover Flow' to browse through my music, but whenever I do, the Albums are all in the wrong order. I know this isn't a major thing, but I really like to have them in the same order as iTunes, as I use that a lot as well.
I have tried resetting the Ipod, but I haven't tired restoring it through iTunes cause I don't want to loose all my music and have to sync it all over again.
Is there a solution?
Can anyone help me?

One other thing which I think has been happening to many people recently is the change in album artwork. There must have been something wrong with the 2.2 update! The album artwork is fine in the 'Cover Flow' (just in the wrong order!), but when I'm scrolling in vertical view some of my albums have just completley black pictures of the actual artwork!
Btw, all of these things are fine in iTunes, so it must be something wrong with my iPod and not with how I organize my music! Thanks to anyone who can help!

How can I get the Cover Flow text to be in all caps

I've only had one problem with the Cover Flow application for iTunes. All of my track names, artists, and album names are in caps on my library. When I switch to the Cover Flow view some songs are displayed with all caps, while others have the song and album in caps, but the artist is in lower case.
I've gone through all of my files and all of them have been correctly entered in all caps, yet Cover Flow still does not display them correctly. I've even gone through every album, got info, and made sure everything was in all caps. Still no succcess.
Any suggestions?
How about creating an option button to control Cover Flow's functioning on the next iTunes version? That would be nice.

In other words, I should always make changes to my song text with the Cover Flow view selected.
I would never have the Cover Flow view selected while importing new albums, tracks, and artwork. I switched back to it after I was done personalizing my stuff. Thats when I started to notice they were still in lower case, even though I had changed them.

Album Art - Not showing all in Album View or Cover Flow

Recently I redid my Itunes Libary where with one artist with songs from several different albums, (and album artwork), renamed the album under Get Info to "Greatest Hits". Now, the specific album art for each song shows when the song is playing, but under Album View/Cover Flow only one Album Art shows for each artist. Assume this had something to do with my renaming multiple songs for the artist to Greatest Hits. Is there any way to get back the specific Album Art for each song under Album View/Cover Flow? Thanks.

If you are only adding it to one song, that won't work. Itunes itself does this for artwork that it finds automatically, but if you want to add them yourself you have to add the artwork to every track. Find the track that you added the artwork to copy the artwork using command - C , then select all of the tracks at the same time in itunes, do a get info and paste the artwork into the artwork window of the tagging window.
