Cover Flow: Certain Photos Are Very Blocky?

I have just been looking at a folder of TIFF photos (approx. 2200x3200ppi) using the Cover Flow display method.
The folder window has been expanded to fill most of my iMac's 24" monitor.
As I flick the photos across, the landscape shaped ones are crystal clear but the portrait ones (mainly) are impossibly blocky and mosaic looking.
I then tried with the same photos which had been converted to JPEGs and all of these were blocky.
Is there something I am doing wrong or is it that I am demanding too much processing power from my computer?

Doesn't seem to be. I just selected 2 pngs and a psd file (all in the same folder) that had custom icons, brought up the Inspector (Command-Option-i), selected the wee little icon at the top of the of the window (a dang near invisible blue halo surrounded it) and hit delete. All three files immediately lost their custom icons and went to showing generic icons in List view.

  • Cover flow anomalies - turingtest2 are you watching?

    Hi,
I have been following several threads about cover flow (turingtest2 did a very good job of explaining things), but still can't seem to get my head around it.
Is it possible, in cover flow on the ipod, to only display a compilation album cover once. At the moment (amongst many other compilations) I have "Party in the park 2002" showing 13 times - once for each individual artist. I have tried several various sorts in the "Get Info, Sort tab" but all to no avail!
    Appreciate any help
    regards

Have you got iTunes set up to group compilations? Open the iTunes menu item *Edit > Preferences* and on the General tab check *Group compilations when browsing*. Here are the steps I would take to organise the album. The album you mentioned is a 2 disc set. Make sure that all the tracks of disc 1 are set as *Disc 1 of 2* and disc 2 set to *Disc 2 of 2*. Find a track with artwork, right-click (option-click) on the artwork panel and select Copy. Select all the tracks on the album and *Get info*. Right-click (option-click) on the artwork panel and select Paste, explicitly change the value of Compilation to Yes, set the Album Artist to *Various Artists* and set the album title to *Party In The Park 2002*. It shouldn't matter for sorting in cover flow but you probably want to have the same year & genre across the album. The *Sort album* & *Sort album artist* fields should be empty for all tracks across this album.
Another habit I have (not necessary but looks nicer in iTunes) is to renumber the tracks. Starting with the last track (I do it from this end to avoid ever having two tracks with the same number) I change it's track number to the total no. of tracks across all the discs. I then click the Previous button with the mouse, type in the previous track no. and repeat. My PC runs fairly slowly but I can type & click for 10 tracks and then let the display catch up. When I get to disc 1, I select all the tracks and set the *No. of tracks* to the total no.

  • Photos are very dark.  Can't differentiate shades of black

    Hello
The photos, on my nano 3G, (even when set to max brightness) are very dark when it comes to shades of black. All detail is lost. Is anyone else encountering this problem? I believe certain iPod Touch have this problem. Any solutions?

    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Repair Database. If that doesn't help, then try again, this time using Rebuild Database.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In early versions of Library Manager it's the File -> Rebuild command. In later versions it's under the Library menu.)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

  • My printer -photosmart plus B210a prints but the photos are very very dark HELP please

I have a Hp photosmart plus B210a just trying to print out some photos and they are very very dark The photos themselves are light and of a high Dpi any suggestions anyone ??? please they are of my son's wedding so are very important to me

What program are you printing from? What operating system? What are the printer settings for paper type and quality?
If you are printing from a program that allows selection of CMYK or RGB printing then select the RGB setting.  Even though the inks are CMYK the driver is expecting RGB data.

  • No matter what I do, e-mail photos are very small

I have iPhoto 6.0.6 and no matter how large I scan a photo, or how large it is in iPhoto, when I highlight the photo in my Library and then click e-mail, even at the largest setting the resultant attached photo is very small. I cannot seem to find any settings that will seemingly overide that.
    Any thoughts?

  • Synced photos are very slow to load

    Hello,
I am having a very annoying problem with photos synced to my iPad 4g.
I sync my whole iPhoto library (more or less 6000 photos) to the iPad via iTunes. I have the latest iPhoto running on lion 10.7.3 and latest iTunes.
When I open the photos app on the iPad All events albums and faces load fine, but, as soon as I try to open a photo it opens it immediately at a very low res and it can take up to 1 minute to get to the high res version. This does not happen with photos originally taken with the iphone4, only with those taken with canon eos. Also, some camera roll photos (donwloaded from the internet, not taken with the internal camera) are affected. Even if I do a sideshow I notice the same lag between the low res and the high res (to the point that at times it changes to the following photo without switching to the high res version of the previous).
I tried to delete all photos from the ipad and re-sync and also re-syncing AFTER deleting the iPod photo cache in the iPhoto library. No change.
This used to happen also when I synced the same library with the iphone4 and not when syncing to an ipad2.
Has this happened to other people? I can't find anything on google. Any clue on how to fix this?
    Thanks!

I like tagging my contacts with their photos so that i can see who is calling but on the Nokia N97 mini, i find that the photo size displayed is very small - less than 10 mm by 10 mm. Would like to see the photo on the full screen. Is this a software issue or something I haven't set properly ?

  • ITunes and iPod Classic Cover Flow Discrepancies

    Hello.
I'm a little impatient and haven't searched through most of the posts to see if this problem has been addressed already. But it's an unusual one (I think).
I got the 160GB iPod and have been able to upload all my music successfully, as well as getting all the cover flow artwork to run smoothly. But now I've been noticing some strange things. When I got a new CD, for example M.I.A.'s 'Kala', I uploaded it onto my iTunes library, and it fell into place nicely next to her other album 'Arular'. But after uploading the new track to my iPod, I can't find 'Kala' next to 'Arular' in cover flow - instead it's way at the end, past the number and symbol titled artists. This was also true for another CD that I recently uploaded, and even more strangely, for some older single tracks that I haven't even listened to yet.
So, basically my iTunes library looks fine in cover flow, but there are a few albums and tracks that aren't in the correct order on my iPod. I've even tried deleting those misplaced albums and tracks from my iPod and then re-uploading them from my iTunes library, but they fall in the same place, at the very very end of the cover flow list.
And, this is just a cover flow problem - in the regular 'Artists' lists, the albums and tracks in question are in their appropriate spot.
Anyone know what might be wrong?
    Thanks

It looks that the album, in your example "Kala", is marked like a compilation. In the iPod coverflow, the compilations appears at the end.

  • Cover Flow displays generic icon only for small JPEG files

I recently used the excellent CocoThumbX to strip off all the Adobe preview icons from my Photoshop-created images (a mixture of JPEG, TIFF, and PSD files). That neatly solved the low-res "fuzzy" Cover Flow thumbnail problem lots of users have complained about.
However, now I have a problem that I haven't seen addressed elsewhere. Lots of my JPEG files still appear as generic JPEG icons in Cover Flow. They are all Adobe Photoshop JPEG files, and they are all no larger than 150KB in size. There's nothing wrong with the files as Quick Look displays them without a hitch, and I can open them in Photoshop no problem.
Any idea how to get Cover Flow to render their thumbnails properly?
Resaving them from Photoshop fixes the problem, but I have thousands of such images and don't want to resave all of them even with a batch action if there's some other simple way of fixing this.

I have the same problem except with ALL jpegs, not just small ones. Other file types (pdfs, eg) preview just fine in cover flow, and I am able to open all the jpgs by themselves in any program, they just don't render in cover flow.
I think this happened in conjunction with the upgrade to 10.5.1.
Any help would be most appreciated!

  • Lightroom is slow with certain photos.

Most of the time Lightroom works really well.  However there is one photo in my catalog (6000 photos) where Lightroom slows to a crawl.  Whenever I move a slider it shows nothing until I release the slider and it takes a second to show.  Other photos are very quick to show changes.  What could be happening here?

What is special about this picture?
What kind of file is it?
    How many pixels?
How many edits in the LR history pane?
What operating system are you using?
How much memory does your computer have?

  • Cover flow image all pixelate. How can I fix it?

in coverflow, some of the graphics ok the album cover are pixelatwd and mosaic looking. It's about every third of fourth album cover. In non-cover flow view they are all fine. What could have caused this and how can I fix it? In iTunes the graphics are fine.

A restore of the device in iTunes usually rules out any possibility of a software glitch as it reloads the iPod with a fresh version of the iPod's software.  One last thing you can try doing is letting the iPod's battery fully drain. Then charge it back up and restore in iTunes once more.
Otherwise, it's likely a hardware issue with the iPod's LCD display or its connection to the iPod's logic board.  You'll need to pay to have your iPod serviced/replaced either by Apple or a third party repair service.

  • Help, I've transferred photos however photos are now blurry, they're no lon

I transferred my photos from several backup cd's and all photos prior to back up were crystal clear. I was using the faces feature as well in iphoto when I backed up pics in Sept 09. I had a hard drive failure in November and thanfully i had a backup cd. I reinstalled the photos and instead of my total 4000 or so pics, i have 27,000 photos, it seems like it's also counting the pics faces had stored as well. Most of the backed up photos are very blurry, they are no longer clear. Why has this happened? Can someone please explain this? I had the worst time trying to reinstall my library. I probably didn't do it correctly I'm assuming. Now I'm sitting here having to go through all 27,000 photos, trash any face closeups photos. SO incredibly annoying. Does anyone have any ideas? should I just bring my Mac in to genius bar and have them do it?

hi Terrence, I believe I made the back up using I believe iphoto. How do i just trash all the photos in my current library and restore from my back up dvd? I installed the dvd into my drive, it's name ilife sept 11, 2009 part 13. full backup, it's contents is 1 blue folder name CONTENTS. I double click it, it opens into 2 blue folders, names backup.catalog and the other blue folder is named CONTENTS. 2 white folders as well show up named backup.log.gz nad infoplist.strings. opening the backup.catalog blue folder yields 2 white attachments named CAT and Stat0. can't do anything with them.
I then click on blue folder contents. it's a backup.sparseimage size 4.44Gb, i double click on that, that opens and shows me ilife blue USERS folder, i double click, then blue USERS folder, double click, then i see 3 blue folders, LIbrary, MUSIC and PICTURES.

  • All my old photos are missing from iPhoto on my Mac- any one have ideas on how to retrieve?

All my old photos are missing from iPhoto on my Mac- any one have ideas on how to retrieve?

Do you have a Time Machine backup or any backup of your Mac? Then you could try to restore from the backup.
If your photos are very important documents, you could also try data recovery software. Usually the trial versions are free, but if you want to safe the recovery photos you have to pay.  Disk Drill works well to recover jPEG photos, see:  http://www.cleverfiles.com/
It is still not obvious what might have happened to your iPhoto Library.  Have you searched for different iPhoto Libraries?
You can search everywhere with FindAnyFile, where Spotlight will not search.
I learned this  from Old Toad , see his post here:
Re: My iPhoto Library disappeared...how do I get it back?
Download and run Find Any File to search for a file with "ThumbJPGSegment" in the file name. These are files common to all versions of  iPhoto libraries.
FAF can search areas that Spotlight can't like invisible folders, system folders and packages. If there's a library hiding somewhere on your hard drive FAF will find it.

  • Cover flows

I have the original cds that I am putting on my ipod and they are being recognized by the artist and the names of the songs on itunes but the cover flows for them are not showing. How do I get the cover flow for them to show?

iTunes may recognise the track names, but not have the artwork for your album. Even if you can buy the album in store it may be that differences in spellings or multiple possible matches prevent it from associating artwork. If this is your problem then you can usually find other sources for the artwork or, at a push, scan your original CD booklets.
*How to find tracks without artwork*
To find all the tracks without artwork so that you can update them you can try http://www.stum.de/itunes-find-tracks-without-artwork/ for Windows or http://dougscripts.com/itunes/scripts/scripts13.php for Macs. Use Google, Amazon, Discogs etc. to locate relevant jpeg images. Ideally these should be square, 320x320 pixels or above and borderless to give the best results in the various menus. If you have artwork for some tracks of an album, but not others, find the album in the main music folder, select a track with artwork, right-click (Option-Click for Macs) on the art & click copy, then select all the tracks of the album, use CTRL-I or Command-I to *Get Info* and then paste the image into the artwork box.
I say 320x320 because I believe (from using TouchCopy) that it's the size used in the iPod cache so if you're going to crop or resize you might as well work to that size. Otherwise 200x200 is probably good enough.

  • Edited photos pixelated in cover flow preview...

I recently bought a Nikon D90. The images are pristine, but I like to correct the color of every picture I shoot using Photoshop CS4 and then import the corrected image into Aperture.
My problem is that when I correct the color using AutoLevels in Photoshop, and then view the image in cover flow, the preview is smaller and very pixelated. I'm able to open the photo in Preview, but the cover flow preview's quality is horrible. This was never a problem with image files from any of my previous cameras.
I've tried to see the differences between the specs on the two files, but can't see any. I'd like to understand why this is before I start making changes to all of the files I shoot with the new camera. My hope is that I won't create a bigger problem once the files are in Aperture.
Any help would be much appreciated.

I'm sure my workflow is far from professional. Aperture certainly does non-destructive editing, but I'm using it for cataloging more than editing. I've been using Photoshop longer and trust my skills with it more. However, using an external editor with Aperture results in the application creating a huge secondary edit file (I think it's a PNG file, but don't quote me). Rather than create that large unnecessary file, I'd prefer to import a file that I've already correct once. If I want to work with the image later, I export a new image from Aperture and work from there.
I'm shooting in JPEG (again, I'm far from professional). I don't know that I'm doing the right thing here, but I don't want my lack of knowledge to compound my problem by importing an image file I've messed up somehow.
