Cover Flow DISABLED

OK after reading through these forums I'm starting to wonder if this is a blessing in disguise, but my cover flow does not engage EVER, no mater what I do. Any ideas? I can play the marble game just fine, and the shake to shuffle works fine, but turning the ipod sideways 90 degrees either direction does not engage cover flow. I cycled the power of the ipod (holding the play/pause button) I reset the ipod (turn the hold button on then off, hold the menu and center button keys till you see the apple logo) and I have restored the ipod as well (using itunes, hit the restore completely wiped ipod) put 2 albums back on and still no cover flow. I also do not get any rotation when watching video or podcasts. Has anyone found a way yet to turn cover flow off, cause maybe then I can turn it on, without trying to return this darn thing.....

  • Full Screen Cover Flow Disables Keyboard After Sleep

I've noticed that if you are using Cover Flow in full screen and put your Mac to sleep (by closing the lid on my PowerBook G4), it will disable the keyboard at the password prompt.
You have to manually shut down the computer by using the power button.
Can someone please duplicate this? I've tried it on a PowerBook G4 and an iBook G4 with the same results.
Here are my setting to duplicate the bug:
    1. Preferences > Security > "Require password to wake this computer from sleep or screen savor" checked.
    2. iTunes > Party Shuffle > Cover Flow > Play a song and then go to > Full screen
    3. Close lid on laptop.
    4. Wait for the computer to sleep. Open lid, and see if you can type your password.
Please let me know what your results are.
    PowerBook G4   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

I have the same problem - the only way I've found to clear it is to turn off completely and restart.........

  • Cover Flow needs disable ability!

Im surprised it hasnt happened already, and I certainly cant be the only one to find it useless in full or to a degree; cover flow needs an option to be disabled! I hate when I turn my hand my music controls become some picture party. I frequently use it in the a prone position, and this becomes a regular frustration as i try to navigate my playlist, raise or lower volume etc. So Please Apple! Just let me turn the dumb thing off!

You aren't addressing Apple here. If you had searched, you would have found a similar post from just a day or so ago.
The only way to address Apple is to provide feedback at http://www.apple.com/feedback/iphone.html

  • Can Top Sites & cover flow be disabled?

I do not use Top Sites or the cover flow display of them. Can these features of Safari 4.0.2 be completely disabled in order to conserve RAM and CPU usage?
    Many thanks,
    Neil

I appreciate your answer. But all I want to eliminate is Top Sites and cover flow of them. I want to retain cache and history unless I manually delete them.
When I go to Safari reset and ask it to eliminate cover flow and Top Sites, or when I go to the page displaying the cover flow and manually delete each image, neither step actually deletes because when I return to the Top Sites page, there are still cover flow images, and they happen to not be the sites I most often visit.
My only concern is I do not use these features and do not want to waste RAM or CPU usage.

  • Is it possible to disable the cover flow?

I find I accidently activate the cover flow sometimes, and it's not a feature i'll ever use.. is there any way I can disable it from popping up?
Also, how to I Search for music in library?

Just don't turn it sideways and you won't need to worry about cover flows (if i'm thinking about the same thing). I looked around all over iPodTouch but didn't see anything to disable it though.
As for searching, just click on one of the 5 icons at the bottom in the music menu

  • Is there any way to disable cover flow?

To me, cover flow is purely an annoyance and in no way enhances my ipod/iphone experience. In fact, every time I use the unit in a reclined position or in bed, I dread the coming of the moment when the iphone is tipped just so as to decide that I must now want to view its contents by album cover. I love the list view, and don't want to switch to an album cover view JUST based on position. I may be in the minority, but personally, I would never use cover flow if I had the option, and its forced use is extremely irritating.
It doesn't seem like this was well thought out: why is cover flow not treated as another way to browse your contents, and thus requires pushing a button at the bottom of the screen (like playlist/artist/song/etc. browsing does), rather than automatically becoming the default browsing mode based purely on the iphone's position (not considering what the user's position might be)? I have not applied any hacks or installed any 3rd party software to my iphone. However, were such a hack to appear that would allow me the choice to turn off coverflow, I believe I would forfeit the use of future updates.
Apple: please allow us the option to turn off cover flow in future firmware updates! I love the fact that the 1.1.1 firmware update gave us the feature of double-tapping the home button for quick pausing/unpausing of the ipod when the phone is locked! That was a great added feature, and I believe turning off coverflow (and the auto-rotation in general: safari, too) would be a great option for the iphone to have.

The best avenue for providing Apple such constructive feedback is via this link instead.

  • Screen saver overrides iTunes cover flow in Lion

On my new iMac (OSX 10.7.1, iTunes 10.4.1), when in full screen cover flow mode, the screen saver overrides this, which is annoying as I like to leave it playing with the artwork displayed. This did not happen on my old (Leopard) Mac. I can't find any preference setting that seems to fix this. I dont really want to turn off the screen saver - I didn't have to before, why now?

Have you tried creating a hot corner (System Preferences > Desktop & Screen Saver > Screen Saver - Hot Corners) to disable the screen saver by parking mouse pointer in the "hot corner."
I'm assuming Lion still has this function.

"iTunes is unable to browse Album Covers".
I have uninstalled & re-installed the latest itunes for windows on apple website but makes no difference. The pics show up in 'Album grid' but I don't like this view. Can anyone help?

  • Problems with iTunes 7 cover flow and remote desktop

Hi. iTunes 7 is an amazing upgrade, but unfortunatly the nicest addtion doesn't work for me with remote desktop, which is how I primarily access my music server.
When using remote desktop, and I switch to cover flow, I just get a message in the cover flow panel saying something to the effect of "itunes cannot display...".
    Any help appreciated.

I had major issues until I visited http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=304434 and turned my Terminal Services back on. I had set it to "Disable" to save resources. Once I set it to "manual", the IPOD worked great with Itunes.

  • ITunes 7.0.1.8 locks up computer in Cover Flow view

I'm having a problem with iTunes locking up my computer when I click the right or left buttons in the cover flow view. I have updated all video and audio drivers, also DirectX but still am having the problem. I have also uninstalled and reinstlled iTunes with no luck.
Does anyone have a fix for this?

I had already loaded the latest drivers avalable from HP as well as the current BIOS Flash and the lastest from windows update.
I tried disabling the Direct X stuff as suggested in the http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=303706 link you left but I am still having the computer lock-up when in cover flow view.
one further question... Does every one get a digaginal line from the upper right corner to the lower left corner of the artwork in shown in the cover flow? I think this may also be related to the problem I'm having.

  • Removing cover flow from finder

Whenever i arrange my files with date modified they sort of come in cover flow under date like today, yesterday. I dont want those to be in cover flow but in icon form throughout. Is there a way to disable the cover flow???

yeah it would work if i arrange it according to name but if i do that for something like date it automatically becomes in coverflow even when the icon view mode is selected. In the screen shot you can see files under earlier are in cover flow

  • Finder slow to show items in column, icon views (OK in list, cover flow)

I'm seeing new perplexing slow behavior on our three-month old iMac running 10.5.5: when in column view and selecting (or in icon view and double-clicking) a folder, there is an initial five-second lag before items will appear in the next column or window; meanwhile, the bottom of the window will only show the space available until items appear and only then will it list the number of items along with space available. It's enough to make you wonder if there actually is anything in the folder while you wait. I say "initial" lag because on subsequent selection, the listing is instantaneous. However, if you log out and in again, it's back to the delay while waiting for initial listings. None of this behavior happens in list or cover flow views, but column view is my routine, so I'd like to make it snappier.
I've gone through some basic troubleshooting steps (repairing permissions, checking Console and Activity Monitor) to no avail. I haven't run into this behavior on my 2-yr. old MBP, so I'm not sure what to look for. Any thoughts?

Get a utility such as TinkerTool System, Onyx, etc. that has a feature to remove all .DS_Store files. If they get corrupted this could cause the problem you describe. I would also consider disabling the View preference to Show Icon Preview. Use the Show View Options in the Finder's View menu. With Leopard you may need to do this for each new Finder window you open (press COMMAND-J to open the preference dialog for the active window.) Do the same for the Desktop. Show Icon Preview can slow down the content display in the Finder initially. Once the information is cached it displays much quicker. Hence the observation that you described.
It also may not hurt to delete the /Home/Library/Preferences/com.apple.finder.plist file in case there's problem with it. Then relaunch the Finder - open the task manager (COMMAND-OPTION-ESC,) select the Finder task and click on the Relaunch button.

  • Stop Cover Flow from enlarging?

    Hi,
Is there a way to disable Cover Flow from enlarging the view when you click and drag or expand the window in the Finder? I'd rather expand the list of items and keep the Cover Flow icons the same size.
Thanks for any help you can provide.

Afraid it is a two step process: resize the window, then resize the CoverFlow section by dragging the little parallel lines at the bottom of the CoverFlow section upwards. You might send feedback to Apple suggesting that it would be better to have the CoverFlow section stay the size you set it when resize the window.
    http://www.apple.com/feedback/macosx.html
I think what you want would be better than the current default behavior.

  • Cover flow view problem

I'm having an issue with cover flow view of images in OS 10.6.8
Whenever a jpeg or tiff file is edited in Photoshop (image size not changed) the preview of that picture in cover flow view
becomes smaller, pixelated and it never clears up.
Cover flow displays Raw camera files and unedited jpegs & tiffs correctly, only when an image is edited does it's preview in
    cover flow become distorted.
I really like to use cover flow to browse through photos quickly but this issue is bugging me.
I've been on Photoshop forums and they say it's an Apple issue.  So I don't know where the problem is.
    Any help would be appreciated.

I know this paste below doesn't directly respond to your issue, but the steps below will restore OS X with a new copy and possibily clear up your issue.
There was a recent security update and it's doing very strange things, in your case it will restore a new OS X copy.
Security Update 2012-001 Bricks Rosetta programs
I've outlined the restore proceedure here, it covers a lot of bases and explains what is going to occur so please don't be intimidated it's a LOT easier that it appears.
Take your time and comprehend the steps involved and you'll be backup up like before in short order.
    Restore method.
#1 Backup your personal data off the machine.
Backup files off the computer (not to TimeMachine). If you don't have a external drive, get one and connect to the USB/Firewire port and simply drag and drop copy your User folder to the external drive, it will copy all your files. It's best to have two backups of your data off the machine when trying to restore.
Disconnect all drives now to prevent any mistakes from occuring.
#2 Try Restoring from a TimeMachine or hold option bootable clone
If you have TimeMachine drive, or a hold the option key bootable clone use that to erase and restore from before the Security Update occured.
Obviously if you didn't make a recent backup before the update, your going to have to skip to Step #3.
Note: A TM restore can take a awfully long time, a clone restore takes under 2 hours in most cases.
If you don't know how to restore from TM drive
    http://pondini.org/OSX/Home.html
    #3 Reinstall OS X 10.6 from disk
If no recent TM or bootable clone then:
Get out your 10.6 install disk and make sure it's clean and polished (very soft cloth and a bit of rubbing alcohol, no scratches) If your disk is borked, you'll have to order a new one from Apple with your serial number.
Hold c boot off the 10.6 disk (wired keyboard, internal optical drive), use Disk Utility First Aid to >Repair Disk and Permissions  (do not format or erase!!), Quit DU and simply re-install 10.6.
Note: Simply reinstalling 10.6 version from disk (without erasing the drive) only replaces 10.6.8 with 10.6.x and bundled Apple programs, won't touch your files (backup anyway)  or most programs, unless they installed a kext file into OS X itself. (only a few on average do this)
Note: If Disk Uitlity can't repair the drive, then come back to seek further assistance and make sure you have a copy of your data off the machine.
#4 Update to 10.6.8 without Security Update 2012-001
Reboot and log in, update to 10.6.8 via Software Update, but EXCLUDE THE Security Update 2012-001 by checkinig the details and unchecking the blue check box.
#5 Reinstall any non-working third party programs
When you reboot, make sure to reinstall any programs that require kext files installed into OS X, you'll know, they won't work when you launch them or hang for some reason.
If for some freakish reason you get gray screen at any time when booting (possible it might occur when you reinstall older programs), hold the shift key down while booting (Safe Mode, disables kext files) and update your installed third party software so it's compatible with 10.6.8.
    https://support.apple.com/kb/TS2570
Note: For most users likley Step #3 and #4 is likley all that is needed to be done.
    That's it really.

    Unverified hacks
Note: You may see a "hack" for this issue floating around, it has had mixed results as people's software is different.
You may want to try it, but it's at your own risk. It has worked fast for some and not at all for others, hopefully over time it will work for all.
The above methods I outline are Apple approved restore methods + based upon experience here and not a quick fix, but are sure to work as Apple recommends such steps themselves.
If at any time you feel this is beyond your capability, please seek local Mac/PC professional assistance before you lose your data.
In fact my steps above are very simple, you might want to have a family member or friend perfrom the proceedure in about a hour or two.
If you don't have any backup, please maintain at least a TM drive, just hook up a new blank external drive and TM will ask you to make a backup, takes some time so let it work.
If your a bit more skilled, a option bootable clone is much superior than TM drive.
    Good Luck

  • Cover Flow Slow when browsing - but works just fine if internet is open

    Hi:
I have installed and am using itunes 7.0.2. When I select the Cover Flow view, the album covers come up and everything seems to work but there is a major lag and my dual core processor computer running Windows XP MCE is maxed out at between 70-90%. If, however, I open up Firefox or Thunderbird and then try it, my processor chugs along at 10-17% and everything in itunes works without any lag at all. Shutting down the internet connection brings the lag and system resource hogging back to critical.
Any ideas what is happening or how to fix it?
    Thanks

Did you post from the system that has the problem? (Your "More System Details" list shows Flash 11.7 instead of 11.8 for some reason.)
This is some standard guidance that addresses the most common issues with Flash in Firefox. I'm sure you've seen some of it before, but just in case:
    (1) Make sure all recorders/downloaders that interact with Flash media are as up-to-date as possible, or disable them.
    (2) Disable hardware graphics acceleration in Firefox and in Flash ''(I see from your post that you've done this part)''
    (A) In Firefox, un-check the box here and restart:
orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Options > Advanced > General > "Use hardware acceleration when available"
    (B) In Flash, see this support article from Adobe: http://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player/kb/video-playback-issues.html#main_Solve_video_playback_issues
    (3) Disable protected mode (Windows Vista/7/8)
See this support article from Adobe under the heading "Last Resort": [http://forums.adobe.com/message/4468493#TemporaryWorkaround Adobe Forums: How do I troubleshoot Flash Player's protected mode for Firefox?]
