Cover Flow for iTouch video?

If any Apple developers are listening, is there any way in the future we can have the option to display our iTouch videos using Cover Flow? While it's nice to have that option in iTunes, it would also be cool to have the option for the iTouch video as well.

I know what you mean Durwin, Unfortunatley this is not possible at this time, athough the good news is:
It is something which can be added in a software update!! - I don't think you've seen the last of what the iPod Touch can do. Apple doesn't stop at the functionality of when you bought it.

I couldn't agree with you more on the custom folder icon issues. I'm beginning to find out what the problem is on that. I have used the newest version of Candy Bar for my Home directory icons and that works fine, but there are some folders that I want to use a different icon for and leave the rest as they are. Candy Bar can't do this for me (as it only works with the generic icons) and so I used Apple's Icon Composer application (in the Developer Tools) to make the correct icon sizes for Leopard and then saved them as .icns but then copying and pasting that on a folder would result in the default ICNS icon and not my custom icon (that was under 10.5.1). So I finally got the custom icon to appear, but it only works for sizes 128x128 and lower, even though I put a 512X512 version in there. That's why it doesn't show up in Cover Flow. For some reason, Leopard "blacks" out anything larger than 128x128 on "Cut and Paste" icons. I found that out by copying my custom icon from the Get Info panel and then opening that in Preview and it shows a black background for the larger icons instead of the alpha channel. I'm still trying to figure this out. Also, IconBuilder seems to be doing the same thing (making and ICNS file) but it seems to work better. I haven't used that since I've upgraded to Leopard but from what I've read it should work, but I don't have Photoshop right now. Lack of UI and No Cover Flow for Videos?

Why is there no cover flow in the iPod touch/iPhone/any iPods for movies and videos? I don't even remember seeing a menu bar at the bottom of the screen to view videos in different categories.
Has anyone else noticed the lack of a good UI in the Video section of the iPod touch? I ask because this option is available in iTunes, and frankly, cover flow one of the coolest features, that is, whizzing through all your DVD covers.

Carousel View Better Than Cover Flow For The Finder?

I have been using my .Mac Web Gallery quite a bit lately and I love the new and improved Carousel view. Apple keeps updating it (they added reflections, a nice play/pause scroll bar, and now you can use the scroll wheel (or ball) on your mouse just like Cover Flow in iTunes and the Finder) making it better and better and it has gotten to the point where I think it would make a lot more sense (and look nicer) for Apple to implement it in the Finder in place of Cover Flow. Cover Flow works perfectly for iTunes still (as that's what it was intended for) and I think that it's "Ok" in the Finder in Leopard, but now that Apple has cleaned up the Carousel view so much in the .Mac Web Gallery, I can see it looking PERFECT in the Finder in Leopard. For anyone who's used or seen the Cover Flow view in the Finder, you'll realize what I mean when I say that it's "Ok". The problem with it is that most of the dynamically generated icons in Leopard are not nice squares like the albums in iTunes so the icons off to the sides of the center one look skewed and distorted. The Carousel view would fix that problem while retaining the benefits of the Cover Flow view and, from what I can see, would actually enhance the benefits because the side icons would be easier to see as they are not skewed. All I'm suggesting is for Apple to swap out the Cover Flow view in the Finder for the Carousel view and then the Finder would really SHINE! So, my question to any of you is, "Would you vote for the Carousel view to replace the Cover Flow view in the Finder?" Please let me know any of your ideas or suggestions. Thanks.

Is cover flow possible on Video iPod?

I have a 30Gb Video iPod and am currently running iTunes version 9. On a recent visit to my local Apple Store I noticed that the new iPod Classic is running software that allows cover-flow and all the new/modern viewing options. Is it possible to get this software on my generation of iPod? Knowing Apple, I wold have thought that it would have downloaded automatically on a software update.

No Cover flow for Search History in Safari 6.1

Just upgraded to Safari 6.1 and can't search my history using the visual (coverflow) method anymore? I use that all the time here at work. Please tell me there's a way to get it working again, because looking at a page full of URLs does NOT help!

Cover flow is gone and there is no option to turn it back on (as far as I have found). It should be an option for those of us that used it. Here may be an alternative way though to get the screenshots from your browsing history. Go to the Finder's Spotlight (upper right magnifying glass). Click on it and type your history search there. One section will include the Webpages you have visited that meet those search keywords. If you hover your pointer over a Webpage result you will get a screenshot of the page. What I am not sure of however is whether it is a cached copy (like Coverflow) or whether it is a live view of the webpage. If this a live view then someone please send a feature request to Apple to give us the option of Coverflow (even if it comes with a disclaimer that it will slow down Safari).

Feature Request: Cover Flow for Selecting Desktop Picture

Cover Flow is a great way to scan through a set of images within a defined visual real estate. It would be perfect for the Desktop System Preferences, where we users have had to suffer forever with squinting at 72x51pixel images (at 1440x900 resolution) of our desktops. It's nearly impossible at this thumbnail size to tell what image one is looking at, and selecting to view it in the preview at 128x73 pixels is only marginally better. And of course, there's no way I know of to expand the System Preferences window to expand this whole scanario. It's the year 2009 guys; please give us your great Cover Flow to help us choose our Desktop Pictures in a reasonable way.

I know this isn't the best place, but Apple doesn't make easily apparent where to submit such requests, and I know its staff do occasionally visit these boards.
As to the appropriateness of the expectation, I have to disagree. I make my living in user interface and usability, and Apple has clearly set the expectation in the user's mind that System Preferences is the primary method for setting all sorts of Finder behaviors, including screensavers and desktop pictures. I see no reason for the user to either accept a substandard main method of setting this preference or have to learn a secondary one simply to avoid the main method.
As to the System Preference not lending itself to Cover Flow, there may be some underlying technology of which I'm unaware, but interface-wise, it seems to fit right into the Preference screen:

MacBook Airs don't run Classic. These two links should be helpful for it:
Apple Article to reset the password for 10.6.8 and earlier, and 10.7 and later.
Go to Apple menu -> About This Mac to find the operating system.
If you are totally locked out of the operating system, usually when you Option boot you can find out what you are booting if the machine can boot.

Cover flow for playlists

While listening to playlists in cover flow mode on the iPhone, it actually shows the album artwork of all the music on the iPhone rather than only those from the playlist. I was expecting to see only the album artwork of the albums/songs in the playlist similar to what iTunes does on the mac. Is there any setting on the iPhone to configure it to show only the playlist artwork in cover flow mode? Thanks.

I just submitted a suggestion to Apple for a 'smart' Cover Flow which would restrict the displayed albums to the artist/genre/playlist being browsed when the iPhone/Touch is turned landscape.

No Cover Flow for iTunes?

I thought one of the new features was Cover Flow. Maybe I was mistaken? Is there any way to get it to work for music? This seems like the perfect browsing method for everyone when people are visiting, I'm really disappointed this wasn't implemented.

My guess (and that's what it is) FWIW is that cover flow is too intensive a process for the tv and will not likely be something that gets included in the future. If I remember rightly I couldn't get my wife's old G4 (700 MHz) to do cover flow, not that it wouldn't work, just that it wasn't an option.

Nope, not possible. If you want that, you need to buy a "Classic" model.

No finder preview, quicklook or cover flow for AVI files in 10.8.1

Just installed 10.8.1 over 10.6.8, and I can't preview avi or wmv files in the Finder. CoverFlow just shows a generic QuickTime movie icon and Quicklook just an empty window with a spinning wheel. There are no problems with mp4, m4v and mpg.
Quicktime X10.2 and Quicktime 7.6.6 opens them fine.
I have:
a) Deleted all caches with Onyx
b) Repaired permissions
c) Deinstalled Perian 1-2-3, Divx plius 8.2.3 and Flip4Mac 3.0b2
d) Deleted all codecs from /Library/Quicktime and ~/Library/Quicktime
e) Rebuilt launchservices
f) Looked for any remains of any old installation of a 3ivx codec. There's nothing.
It happens in two different user accounts. Both of them, admin accounts. So, I've moved away /Library/Preferences to start up with a new empty Preferences folder.
What else can I try?
Incidentally, I'm also experiencing the blurry or disapearing icons bug.

Flip4Mac (installed) and Perian (installed) provide this support. As a matter of fact, I can play AVI and WMV in Quicktime 10.2 and 7.6.6. It's the Finder or the QuickLook subsystem what has a problem.
Besides that, having those QuickTime components installed, there are no problems in a new installation from scratch in a nother disk. But I'm trying to avoid that and to restore in Mountain Lion part of the functionality of my Mac under Snow Leopard.
There should be a preference, cache, temp file or something like that that is impeding QuickTime or the Finder to access the necessary components to preview and quicklook AVI and WMV files.

Album art moved to end of cover flow for no apparent reason....

This happens on my 80gb iPod only. Not on iTunes. iTunes shows all the album art in the coverflow in alphabetical order like its suppose to be. Albums such as: Deftones - "self titled", The Mars Volta - Frances The Mute, Kanye West - Graduation, Placebo - Meds, Taking Back Sunday - Where You Want To Be. Among around 15 others.
All album info seem to match up, but for some reason, they are all located at the end of the coverflow on my iPod not in line with the other albums from the same artists.
Anybody know why this happens and how to fix this annoying little thing?

iTunes gets those tags from the Gracenote database. Whoever entered the info, set them as compilations.

Cover flow displays the same two pieces of artwork for all videos.

I've been adding a collection of tv series I have on DVD to iTunes 9.1.1, it all worked fine initially, I opened each video up of a series of tv programs and used the "Set Poster Frame" option to capture a frame of the program to use as the artwork for that program.
I normally have the programs sorted by what tv program they belong to, so Cover flow only displays the first episode of a series' artwork. I'm not sure why though but something I did yesterday appears to have caused cover flow to blow a fuse.
If I chose to sort by name before, cover flow would display all the artwork for each episode, and it showed all the different artworks correctly. Now though after some fiddling I did which I cannot seem to recount my steps back to, it only displays the same two pieces of artwork from two particular episodes for all the videos when it is sorted via name:

I've tried removing all the artwork, but there doesn't seem to be an option to delete the poster frame and the poster frame artwork doesn't show up under the artwork tab for the individual videos so I can't delete anything from there. If I select all the videos and then right click and get info, then select the artwork check box and click OK it seemingly deletes all the artwork... Then replaces it again with the exact same artwork!
Although cover flow shows each video has having the same artwork if I Get Info each video it clearly shows it having the correct artwork so why cover flow is messing around like this I don't know.
I've tried deleting the album artwork cache in the itunes folder, didn't work. I even tried deleting my entire itunes folder which I have separate from my library and the hidden prefs file in my actual library, but that didn't work either.
Interestingly enough, if I re-add all the videos they automatically get listed as films and go under the film tab. When looking at them under their cover flow correctly shows every episode with the right artwork:

As soon as I change the Get Info options tab from Film to TV program either for one video or all of them, then cover flow screws up again.
Any idea how to fix this annoyance?

The weird thing is, it worked before. I encoded all the videos previously and had them all listed and didn't encounter this problem, but I noticed I'd forgotten to decomb/detelecine the videos so I deleted everything and re-encoded it all. AFter filling the tags out and setting poster frames again I was thinking of making life easier by just pasting the same artwork for every episode, so I did, but didn't like the results so I deleted it again (I selected every video, used Get Info and pasted the artwork that way).
I think it was after this that the problem started to occur. In any case I've been through every episode and made sure the name, series, episode and episode id fields are all filled in with incremental values and they are. I even made sure the Sort Name field was filled in on every video. But this didn't work either.
So, thinking another restart was needed I deleted every video again. Re-encoded them all, again. Set the tags for every video and poster frame again. Finished it all off nicely, checked cover flow and was highly annoyed to find it was STILL showing the same two pieces of art work for every video as shown in that image I posted.
Ultimately, I wouldn't care so much that cover flow is screwing up like this as I always intended to sort by program anyway so it would only ever display one piece of artwork for an entire series of videos, however where-as when it was working it picked the artwork for the first episode of a series to display, its instead picking one of the latter episodes. I can't seem to find any way of choosing what artwork I want displayed.
