Cover Flow in Finder doesn't display Preview Annotations

When looking at PDFs using Cover Flow in Finder, the Preview Annotations aren't shown. Both Quick Look and Preview will show them.

It means no other machine on your network is acting a server. Are you trying to connect to a Windows or Macintosh server? If you are trying to connect to Windows, there's no way to browse a Windows network. You have to be in the same WorkGroup to see any servers that way.
SharePoints http://www.hornware.com/sharepoints/ will let you change your WorkGroup. I always change mine to Mshome so I can easily see other people's machines (which are almost always in that WorkGroup).

  • Mavericks Cover flow in Finder gets lost

This is a repost from "Lion" category. Fits better here.
"have upgraded to Mavericks, and I am having trouble with Coverflow in the Finder. When I delete files it gets lost, showing previews of files that are not the ones that are highlighted. The spacebar preview seems to work, showing me the actual contents, but the coverflow view is for a different file. Also, if there is a long list of files in the folder, it cannot display the files further down the list.
I was in the middle of a large project, going through thousands of photos in finder, when I upgraded. I had the perfect workflow, using coverflow, and it worked flawlessly in Lion. It seems this got boken in the update."

I'm having the same problem. If I navigated away from a folder it was happening with for a while, the ghost perviews in the coverflow would disappear, but it would still happen if I tried to move or delete a file.

Several of my applications (adobe acrobat, CAD) often crash (and need to be Forsed Quit) when I try to open a file using Cover Flow.  AutoCAD release the following advisory:
AutoCAD crashes or file navigation dialog boxes close unexpectedly in Mac OS X 10.9 (Mavericks)
    Issue
AutoCAD crashes or the open dialog boxes close unexpectedly while using Open or other file navigation dialogs in AutoCAD on Mac OS 10.9 (Mavericks).
    Solution
This happens when you use Cover Flow view mode in a dialog box and navigate across folders. This issue will need to be corrected by Apple in a future Mavericks update.
To work around this issue, do not use the Cover Flow view mode in file navigation dialog boxes such as Open, New, Save, External Reference attach, PDF attach, Image attach, Import, Export, etc.
This is particularly annoying when trying to select a particular graphic file to work on.  I wind up opening a finder window in Cover Flow to find the particular graphic I want to open and then looking for the file name in List View in the Open diaglog box.

  • Cover flow in finder

i use cover flow in finder to browse my videos and some movies...
i just want to ask if it is normal that the cpu usage is high

    thanks

    HI,
    Locate this file.

Move that file to the Trash and restart your Mac.

  • Deleted files still have preview in cover flow in finder window

After I delete files while in cover flow view mode in finder, the preview and filename do not match. In fact the preview of the deleted file remains when a different file is selected.  Every file below that shows a different preview.  It resets to normal if I close and reopen the folder.
edit: Upon further investigation I see I am not alone.  Someone else even posted a link to report the bug, which I did.

Support call gave the solution:  instead of 'Arrange by', use the 'clean up by' command under the view menu in Finder.  This does what arrange by used to, and while the menu options are more limited than 'arrange by', it doesn't default to the cover-flow behavior that is so irritating.
If you hate cover flow like I do, please send them feedback.  If enough of us complain about it, maybe they'll stop putting it all over the place.

  • Cover flow lion finder window

Horrible horrible horrible feature of Lion:
iPhoto is occupied iwth a large upload of images to flickr.
I want to review some more of the images I shot today in thumbnail to
open and start working on them in photoshop without waiting for iPhoto
to finish (this is reason #6099 why I do not let iPhoto control the
location of my photos on the drive, so I can access them without
    opening their specific iPhoto library).
I open the enclosing folder for the images, click to view by icon,
enlarge the icons, then click to sort the photos by date, and....COVER
FLOW!  they've Cover-Flow-ized the icon view when you do any kind of
    sort except by name.
I cannot say how much I hate cover flow--nausea-inducing for the
motion sickness prone, nasty vile scheme in general--and now, it's
dropped the images I can see in one glance at the screen in this icon
by date view of the finder window to ONE, and I can't turn it off.  I
do NOT have coverflow checked in view options.
Is there any way to kill coverflow completely in every place they've
    put it?
(Feedback already sent to apple, BTW, if you have this problem too, and there's no solution offered by one of the bright folks on this board, please send them some at apple.com/feedback--the place to put feedback for programs like finder that don't have a 'send feedback' menu item))

  • Cover Flow in Finder (Not Showing Photo)

    Hello,
In my Finder window, it is no longer showing the actual photo in the "cover flow". I can still press spacebar and it will preview the photo for me, however, when I'm using cover flow to browse through photos, documents, pdf's, it no longer shows the actual image...it just shows a picture of a "creased page".
    How do I fix this?

    HI,
    Locate this file.

  • No icon for Cover Flow in Finder

I have recently upgraded my ibook G4 to Leopard. The cover flow option with quick look in the finder is wonderful. Unfortunately, I seem to be missing the little eyeball icon in the Finder window toolbar. I can access Quick Look by hitting the space bar, but I'm wondering why the icon is missing? Did I get a defective version of Leopard?!?!?

    1) That's the quicklook tool, not cover flow. Cover flow is a black rectangle with two parallel lines along each side.
    2) Finder->View->Customize toolbar->drag the quicklook icon to the toolbar.

  • Cover flow on computer doesn't work.

I am on a PC. When I attempt to use the Cover Flow display option my screen looks like this.
I just updated to the latest iTunes version (10.3.1.55) and I still have the same problem. Is there a way to fix this?

    It is a kernel panic:

  • Finder doesn't display full content

    Hello!
We have an urgent problem here. The Finder seems to update the windows far too slow. When you create a document from an application, the finder shows it after a long time (about an hour or more). When you use Terminal oder even an open dialog it shows the documents. You can open the documents via an open dialog but the Finder doesn't show them.
Copying files via Finder shows them in the finder.
After a reboot the Finder shows all files until you save a document somewhere.
I did not find any error messages in the log files yet.
    Hope you can help.

    2 GHz G5 DC   Mac OS X (10.4.4)

You may be able to repair this with the 10.4.4 Stand Alone Combo Update.
This is a full install, as opposed to an incremental "delta" update so it should overwrite any files that are damaged or missing. It does not matter if you have applied it before. It has worked well for many.
    Repair permissions before update:
Navigate to Applications/Utilities/Disk Utility (Double Click to Launch) > Choose your HD in the sidebar > First Aid Tab > Click on "Repair Disk Permissions".
    Also Verify Disk before update:
    Steps for using Disk Utility
    1. Insert your Mac OS Tiger DVD disc, then restart the computer while holding the C key until you see the spinning gear..
    2. Once started up from CD or DVD, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu.
Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from disc to access Disk Utility.
    3. Click the First Aid tab.
    4. Click the disclosure triangle to the left of the hard drive icon to display the names of your hard disk volumes and partitions.
    5. Select your Mac OS X volume, if necessary.
    6. Click Repair.
    Good luck, let us know.

  • Finder doesn't display spanish file name correctly ...

    Hi all;
I have a Mac mini which access a share on a Network Drive with
    all my media files.
When I access the share from my daughter's account (she is set as a user
with parental controls), I can see all the files with the correct names, i.e:
    FERNÁNDEZ, etc.
For my account (I am set as an admin) it display the name
    FERNæNDEZ (or something like that)
I believe the UNICODE settings are different from both accounts,
but I can't find where to change it. Any ideas?
How can I change the default setting?
    Additional Info:
My settings shows (from a terminal window):
    _CF_USER_TEXTENCODING=0x1F5:0:0
    My Daughter's settings shows:
    _CF_USER_TEXTENCODING=0x1F7:0:0
Thanks, this is driving me crazy.

If I remember right, display of such domains in the original script may depend on whether the domain officials have policies in place to safeguard against potential confusion between names that look the same in cyrillic and latin.  But it could also be a simple oversight.

  • Finder doesn't display contents of shared NAS

I recently upgraded my NAS to the latest version and since then I cannot access the NAS in the usual way from any Mac. The Macs are Macbook Pro 2.4 duel core OSX 10.7.5 and iMac 3.2 i3 10.6.8. The NAS is a STORA 2110.
I can connect using the Stora application or using Go - Connect to server - smb://STORA then choose the partitions to mount and I can see the files on MyStora.
If I select Stora from the left hand side of the Finder window under SHARED, I says status is connected but it doesn''t show any files. It spins and spins.
I think this is something to do with how apple speaks to linux/windows...
You may wonder what the problem is as I can see it, well I have 27,000 songs on the Stora that have been added to iTunes from the old way, the shared connection, and iTunes cant see them when I connect using the Go - Connect to server... connection. I think because the path to the Stora is different for each connection.
I'm happy to have a work around if it is the path?
    HELP!

As it turns out, spotlight indexing for some strange reason has been turned off for my HD.
Is it really possible, that "sudo mdutil -avE" only deletes the file, and that a new one isn't automatically created? Anyways using Spotless revealed that indexing was actually turned off for my HD, and enabling was just a click. The throbbing dot and all that came to life after e few seconds.
Actually I think it may have been turned off every since i upgraded to 10.6 - and I've just lived with it, and concluded, that Spotlight had become slow in 10.6 and instead I just used Quicksilver. No wonder it was slow when it didn't have an index!

  • Yosemite finder doesn't display file count?

I just installed Yosemite (10.10.2) on a clean drive in my MacBook Pro 6,2 and I'm trying to figure out how to get Finder to display a count of files at the bottom of the finder windows. I'm used to it displaying something like "356 files. 49 files selected." Is this functionality still available? I've looked in Finder prefs as well as the customize toolbar and sidebar areas. No luck.
    Any ideas?

Choose Show Status Bar from the View menu.

  • Network in Finder doesn't display available servers

I have not seen this on the boards (exactly). When I choose the network icon in a finder window instead of seeing the other computers on the network, I see three folders: 1. Users, 2. Applications, 3. Library nothing is in any of them.
    I am on mac G5 running 10.4.5
Other machines on the network can see this one fine.
I have tried trashing various preferences, and creating new network configuration profiles. Nothing seems to work. I can access other machines if I use the Apple-K and enter the IP address of other machines.
terribly frustrating, any help greatly appreciated.

  • Finder doesn't display files on external hard drives

    Hello-
I have two external hard drives and recently I've been moving a ton of data around.
Once two days ago and now again today, the files on those hard drives did not appear in the finder window. Searches yeilded results in that window fine, but the window was blank upon opening.
Two days ago I addressed it with a disk repair. I'm not sure that's what did it though. This appears to be a finder problem.
Earlier I had the same problem. It's nothing to do with the disks; when going to info, it shows the data is all there and searches yield results. But when backing out of the results, the finder window would again be blank.
I have tried: Restarting, starting in safe mode and running disk repairs on the disks, relaunching finder about a hundred times, logging out and back in, clicking on the window and selecting view options, then fiddling with them (this may have corrected the issue on the disk with less data on it, but then again, it might have been coincidence, but the files on that one showed up just then).
Just as I typed this, the beach ball showed up, the window hitched a couple of times, and lo, all my files appeared again.
What appears to be happening, is that Finder is hanging up. I hypothesize this because I tried to eject the disk and coudln't because the error message said Finder was busy with it. Yet Finder wasn't showing my files. That suggests that Finder was balking. The disks were fine, the data is there, it's just that Finder wouldn't show it. Yet when I waited several minutes, the files appeared, suggesting Finder was merely running very slowly or otherwise suboptimally.
Is there anyway to run a repair on Finder itself? This problem is recurrant.

I don't think it's your finder, it is the speed of your hard drive reading those files on the drive.  When you try to access the hard drive take a look at the bottom right corner you will see a spinning icon it will continue until it has read the drive.  Normally you should wait for that to stop then you should see the data.
