Cover flow in playlists?

Hi all!
I love cover flow but don't like it only works on my entire list of synched music. I would like to be able to switch to cover flow from WITHIN a playlist and thus only showing the covers of the albums in this playlist. Is this possible? I hope so very much!
Thanks for any clues ...
Dan

Thanks for your reply. This is annoying, since I have lots of singles and lots of albums on my iPod and would like to browse only through my playlist of COMPLETE albums using cover flow. Apple clearly hasn't thought this through yet.
Greetings,
Dan

  • "Greatest Hits" confuses Cover Flow and Playlists

    Hi,
I have several albums by different artists titled "Greatest Hits" on my nano.
When I browse by Cover Flow or Playlists all the songs from every album titled "Greatest HIts" are listed.
My nano has the latest software. Does anyone have a cure?
    TIA

There's a workaround you can use, there's no definitive "cure" as such that I can quote for you. Add the Artist name to the title such as "Artist A - Greatest Hits", "Artist B - Greatest Hits" etc. Possibly some future version of the software may come along to sort the problem out permanently

  • Cover flow for playlists

While listening to playlists in cover flow mode on the iPhone, it actually shows the album artwork of all the music on the iPhone rather than only those from the playlist. I was expecting to see only the album artwork of the albums/songs in the playlist similar to what iTunes does on the mac. Is there any setting on the iPhone to configure it to show only the playlist artwork in cover flow mode? Thanks.

I just submitted a suggestion to Apple for a 'smart' Cover Flow which would restrict the displayed albums to the artist/genre/playlist being browsed when the iPhone/Touch is turned landscape.
Hopefully others will request the same:

  • Cover Flow View - By Genre/Playlist?

When I'm viewing a specific Genre using List View, then switch to Cover Flow, albums are displayed which don't match the genre/artist selected. Is it possible to use Cover Flow in a context sensitive manner, like artist, genre, or playlist?

The Browser selections don't carry over into Cover Flow.

  • Set cover flow view to all playlists

    Hello,
Does anyone know how I can choose a view, say cover flow in my playlists and apply this to all playlists with out having to go through each playlist?. I would also like to choose certain columns (e.g track number etc) and apply this to all of my 350 playlists.
Does anyone know if this is possible on iTunes 10.7. I have searched on Google and it used to be able to be done on older versions of iTunes but the option is not availible on this version.
    Thanks
    Tony

Thank you for you help in advance!
Don't know if I quite understand your suggestion. Maybe I'm not making myself clear as well..
I don't want to cut my videos, I want to be able to see the content of my videos (without playing it) right after the intro - so then I can identify and give their ID numbers quickly and easier.

  • Cover flow only to preview my current playlist?

My music on my iPhone 4 previews as lists on portrait mode based on a playlist fine. It shows all my albums perfectly within that specific playlist folder.
However when I switch over to landscape cover flow mode to view the album covers, it lists out all my albums from this playlist as well as every other song I have synced on the phone.
Is there a way I can preview the same albums from my playlist as landscape cover flow mode?

I hope everybody on all the related threads writes to Apple (http://www.apple.com/feedback/) to point out that it's downright *DANGEROUS* that the only way to skip songs while driving is to reach over and dismount our iPhones so we can turn them to profile view—instead of just a quick tap of the >> button in landscape mode.
Didn't they get the memo that distracted driving kills people?

I have a tiny problem that is driving me mad. When I am playing an album in iTunes using cover flow view (with the playlist beneath the artwork picture) the  picture is exactly above the album title. All is symmetrical. When I switch to full screen display, the artwork moves a couple of inches to the left and the display is therefore asymmetrical. Why and how do I correct it? It would drive you mad to.
    Thanks for any help,

I was having the same problem, but tried the "Top Button + Home Button" reset and that did work for me. My unofficial guess is that perhaps RAM caches get filled through daily use of various apps leaving no memory for cover flow. Resetting the phone on the phone itself seems to reset that RAM. I can't say it's a cure-all, but it solved my issue. Hope this helps.

  • Is there a way of making my iPod's "cover flow" sort in the same way the software can . Artist -- Album by Year . It only seems to do Artist -- by Alphabetical Album . I want it look like it does on the PC .

Is there a way to make the "cover flow" on the iPod match the sort style that I use on the software . I go with Artist -- Album by Release Year . But the ipod seems to only do Artist -- Alphabetical by Album , and then there are a handful of albums oddly out of place . Can it be done ?

    Ottonomy, here's what to do.
Connect your iPhone to your computer and open the iPhone's playlist in an iTunes window. Copy/Paste the entire playlist into a new(!) playlist in iTunes, not on your iPhone. Then resort the playlist. After you sort it, Copy/Paste it to a new(!) playlist on your iPhone. Now delete the old playlist on your iPhone and rename the new playlist the name you want it to be (probably the same name as the old playlist).
The downside to this method is that you have to do it every time you add a song to the playlist. Unfortunately, I don't think there's another way.

  • Cover Flow does not update in full-screen mode

Following an upgrade to iTunes 10.5 (141) and Lion (10.7.2) - I've noticed that Cover Flow no longer updates to the current song in full-screen mode. It will return to, and remain frozen at the first song of the playlist until manually updated or I revert to non-full-screen mode.

I assume you are using a desktop shortcut to start Lightroom.  Look at the properties for that shortcut.  There should be an option to set it to "maximize".

  • After upgrading to Lion and iTunes 10.4, cover flow not displaying song playing. Why not?

Since upgrading to Lion and iTunes 10.4, cover flow is not displaying the currently playing song. It will simply display the first cover in the playlist. Also, the screen saver starts during playback, unlike Snow Leopard. Any ideas on how to fix? I have already repaired disk and permissions but problem persists.

Thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you!
I tried restarting my mac and my iphone a bunch of times, reinstalling iTunes after deleting dozens of files, and it didn't help at all.
I re-installed X-Code (had to use Activity Monitor to kill iTunes Helper in the middle of the install) and then my iPhone synced again!

  • Cover flow and album sort issues

I just got a 80GB iPod classic for Christmas and I have noticed some annoying differences between iTunes cover flow and iPod cover flow:
    1. In iTunes cover flow, when you have songs with "Unknown Album", they clutter up the cover flow for each artist. In iPod cover flow, they are sent to the back of the cover flow in a nice little "Various Artists" cover. I like how this works on the iPod better.
    2. iTunes cover flow sorts by album artist, so you don't see a separate album for each non-album artist song.
For example: If I set my album artist for the Saturday Night Fever soundtrack to "Saturday Night Fever" (don't ask why, this is how i like it sorted) then I will only see one "Saturday Night Fever" rather than one for Bee Gees, one for Kool & the Gang, etc.
iPod cover flow sorts by artist, so you see a separate album for each non-album artist song. I like the way this works in iTunes better.
    3. When sorting by "Album by Year" in iTunes, syncing the iPod doesn't seem to follow the same sorting. Albums are still sorted on the iPod alphabetically. I want them to sort by year on my iPod.
So I would appreciate it if someone could help me with all 3 of these issues. As you can see, sometimes iTunes is better for me, sometimes iPod is better for me.

    3. Playlists should be sorted in the same way as they are in iTunes. The Cover Flow order is fixed.
This is not the case, at least not with iTunes 7.5.0.20 and my 80GB Classic running 1.0.3 on it (current version as of this writing). In iTunes, under LIBRARY, I select Music, and I have my music sorted via *Album by Year*. This works perfectly in iTunes. I'll use my Soundgarden library as an example, as it shows the problem nicely.
    *_iTunes order_:*
    Ultramega OK
    Louder Than Love
    Screaming Life/Fopp
    Badmotorfinger
    Superunknown
    Songs From The Superunknown
    Down on the Upside
    A-Sides
That's ordered by date and is perfect. +Ultramega OK+ was released way back in 1988, while A-Sides was released nearly 10 years later in 1997. In Cover Flow View it works great. However, in the iPod it's sorted alphabetically, which is completely wrong:
    *_iPod Classic_:*
    A-Sides
    Badmotorfinger
    Down on the Upside
    Louder Than Love
    Screaming Life/Fopp
    Songs From The Superunknown
    Superunknown
    Ultramega OK
This is totally wrong. And I haven't yet found a way to force it.
Apple, please, this shouldn't be that difficult.

  • Can Cover Flow view be limited to playback of only one album at a time?

    Hi all,
I've been using the Cover Flow view in my iTunes Library more and more lately (after years of suffering owning a slow machine). But there has been a question regarding playback that has been slightly nagging me for a little while. I couldn't come up with effective search results, so I'll pose the question to the masses.
Cover Flow playback (by default) seems limited to playing through one album and jumping straight into the next album in the Library without stopping. Scroll through the track listing in the lower screen and you'll notice that iTunes lists every track from every album in your Library.
(picture one of those digital bar jukeboxes and an unlimited bankroll...)
Conversely, when clicking the album's title in the default List view, iTunes will only play the tracks in that particular album's playlist, and stop playback once this is finished. I have grown used to this option when desiring to fall asleep to one particular album only... and not the 476 albums which follow it.
Is there a workaround in place to emulate this "List View" playback behavior for Cover Flow playback?
Just curious... if not, it isn't the end of the world - List View will still continue to serve its specific purpose for my needs.
I just have a thirst for knowledge.
    Thanks,
    Steve

    Hi Jeremy,
Conversely, when clicking the album's title in the default List view, iTunes will only play the tracks in that particular album's playlist, and stop playback once this is finished.
I'm not sure I follow you here — if I click a track in list view, iTunes always goes on to the next track when it's over (assuming Shuffle is off). If that's the next track on an album, great, but when I come to the end of an album it moves on to the next one.
Or are you talking about the Browser? Selecting an album in the Album browser pane will indeed produce the results you're describing, since the rest of your library will be excluded.
Yes that's correct - my apologies, I was at work at the time and was working from memory. I've had the Browser enabled since day one that it almost becomes second nature.
My iTunes interface, while displaying in List mode with the Browser active, limits the upper display fields to only Artist and Album panes.
And exactly as you said, once the album finishes playing, iTunes ceases playback.
Is there a workaround in place to emulate this "List View" playback behavior for Cover Flow playback?
Yes, but it's a bit clunky: use the Search box to narrow down your library until only one album is displayed.
Yes you are correct - it is a bit clunky. But it does work for the most part, provided that the album title is unique from a song title on another album.
    Thanks for the info Jeremy!

  • Cover Flow Scroll Bar is Blurry

    Hey,
In cover flow, I notice that the scroll bar is blurry. I've found a temporary fix for it by resizing the cover flow window which resets the horizontal scroll bar to a clear, crisp image. However, as soon as you go back to whatever source (Libary, or any of my playlists) you were originally in, the scroll bar appears blurry again.
Does anyone else have this problem, and know a way to fix it?

It happened to me too, right after I went into full screen mode and scrolled. It was fine before that. Here's a screenshot: http://i38.photobucket.com/albums/e135/aqua-star/Picture4.png

  • Cover Flow Album Order

My 4th Gen iPod orders albums in Cover Flow by artist name, which I don't like to begin with, so firstly I'd like to know how to change this to by album title.
Also, even when it does order by artist name, it somehow works fine and then randomly puts a Simon and Garfunkel album right at the end, after 'Various Artists', meaning that particular album isn't even with the others I have by the same artists. This surely completely defeats the point of the artist name order, which I already don't want!
So even if there's no way to change the artist name order thing, I'd like some ideas on why it doesn't work with that one album please!
    Can anyone help me?

I had this issue but managed to sort it...
Cover Flow was putting albums to the "back" of the list. All of the albums that were being put at the back were being classed by iTunes as compilations.
Even if the album is not in reality a compilation it will be listed as such by iTunes if it has any tracks with "artist 1 Feat. artist 2".
    e.g.
Sting's album "Sacred Love" has a track with "Sting Feat. Mary J. Blige"
This meant iTunes classed the album as a compilation... (even if you change the artist details to remove the "Feat. artist" iTunes still classes it as a compilation... very frustrating!)
    _To resolve the issue_
You will need to do this for each album individually (i.e. each album that is being sent to the back of the list) and it needs to be done in the main music library NOT in the playlists that you are syncing...
Highlight the album (all the tracks on that one album)
Go to "get info" (under "File" for any newbies :))
Select "NO" in the "compilations" box.
    This should solve the problem

  • Is there any possibility to add a cover to a playlist?

This means: I dont want to add a cover to every single song in a playlist, but to attach a cover to a playlist as a whole.

I do have many duplicates (one song released in: album of the artist, best of album, compilations, etc.).
To eliminate duplicates: Select Music> File> Display Duplicates. Or use a shareware program such as Song Sergeant, which has the added advantage of allowing you to combine metadfata info (ratings, play counts, etc), before eliminating duplicates.
    http://www.lairware.com/songsergeant/
But how to keep the info about album and tracknumber at all and accessible?
The info is kept in metadata tags that is accessible and editable thru the Get Info... window. If you are talking about pretending that the one track you saved comes from all thouse different, multiple sources, your best option would be to add that info to the Comments field. To make this, and other, fields visible in iTunes, simply select them in View> View Options.
My best guess so far is to keep only one file and add that one to several playlists (one for each album the song has been released in).
In a second step I would love to browse through my playlists in cover flow; therefore I would need to add a cover to a playlist. (of course this would need an additional option in coverflow, namely playlists)
That is simply not what Playlists are used for or were desiogned for. Can't be done.
Generally, however, your assumption that all these versions are identical is incorrect. The same song might appear on different albums, but might differ in mix, recording version, remastering version, single mixes, video mixes, etc.
