Cover Flow or Quick Look and InDesign

I'm actually surprised I can't find this issue raised here in the past 2-3 years.... Both (REALLY GREAT) features work well with PDF, Photoshop or even my Illustrator (EPS) files, but files saved in InDesign (CS4 & CS5) show only the official icon, no preview...
...Am I missing something here?
...Thanks.

There's a misunderstanding here... I'm referring to open an InDesign document FROM WITHIN InDesign, not from the Finder menu....

• Quick Look and CS2 Files

When I'm in Cover Flow view, Illustrator and InDesign files have thumbnails. However, if I click on Quick Look, I just get a grainy blown-up view of the application icon. I work mainly in Illustrator and InDesign, so no Quick Looks of those files is a big disappointment.

This is kind of weird because I assumed Cover Flow utilized Quick Look to display the hires file icons. You can see the file icons are being rasterized and are not just bitmaps because even when Cover Flow is huge the icons look great.

• Cover flow is very slow and crashes on iOS 5 or is it just my iPod Touch?

Basically, everytime I use cover flow on my music and scroll around it laggs and crashes. The simple solution is to not use it I know but I'm just wondering if you guys are having the same problem.

Same here on my 3GS. Found that restoring a second time the phone helps,no more crash, but still very slow and freezing, compare to flawless response on previous IOS3-4.
Note that looking at diagnostics reports,it have lot's of "LowMemory" and "awdd" messages with dates corresponding to the times is was using cover flow.
Even outside of cover flow,my 3GS registers lags corresponding "LowMemory" reports quite often.
I enable then sharing to Apple of those diagnostics on the phone, hope they fix this soon!

• Cover Flow, Quick Look and Finder icons ignore ICC color profiles

... and that really bothers me!
As a photographer, I tend to save photos with different color profiles embedded in them. Sometimes it's Adobe RGB, sometimes sRGB, sometimes Generic RGB (don't ask).
Aside from the apps that HAVE TO regard color profiles (Aperture, Photoshop etc), I was under the impression that color consistency is important throughout OS X. I am satisfied that Safari and Preview fully support color profiles, and that is why I am appalled that Cover Flow and Quick Look (my favorite feature in Leopard) do not! How do I know? It's in the plain eye sight.
Apple... FIX THIS, PLEASE!

• For The Experts: Quick Look and Cover Flow?

Hi
I have not been able to find the answer to my question anywhere on the internet. I thought that some of you experts out there may be able to help me.
I deal with thousands of files all the time that are essentially text files (i.e .txt). I have one problem though. They end with the extension .01 for Jan, .02 for Feb etc. If I rename the extension on one of these files to .txt, I can view them in Cover Flow and I can also see the contents by using Quick Look.
Unfortunately, I cannot rename the extensions on all these files to .txt, because they need to be sent to various departments and cannot be changed.
Does anyone know if it is possible to make Cover Flow and Quick Look think that these are text files?
Thanks...
Brian.

Hello. SetFile, just like any other console tool, can accept wildcards. For example:
Set the attribute of all files in the directory named mydocs:

/Developer/Tools/SetFile -t TEXT /Users/whuggy/mydocs/*

You can also use the more powerful 'find' command: Find all files in your 'mydocs' directory that ends with '.01' and set them as a text file:

find /Users/whuggy/mydocs -name "*.01" -exec /Developer/Tools/SetFile -t TEXT {} ';'

This means: find stuff inside mydocs directory whose name ends with ".01"; on each item you find execute the command /Developer/Tools/SetFile -t TEXT to it. The '{}' placeholder is substituted with the filepath of an item. And the ';' at the end designates the end of that command.

• What happened to cover flow, I just updated and I dont have it anymore ***??

What happened to the cover flow with the album artwork?? is it somewhere on the new itunes version??

The main differences between iTunes 11 and earlier versions are the loss of coverflow and ability to have multiple windows open.
In Windows, you can restore much of the look & feel of iTunes 10.7 with these shortcuts:
ALT to temporarily display the menu bar
CTRL+B to show or hide the menu bar
CTRL+S to show or hide the sidebar
CTRL+/ to show or hide the status bar (won't hide for me on Win XP)
Click the magnifying glass top right and untick Search Entire Library to restore the old search behaviour
Use View > Hide <Media Kind> in the cloud or Edit > Preferences > Store and untick Show iTunes in the cloud purchases to hide the cloud items. The second method eliminates the cloud status column (and may let iTunes start up more quickly)
If you don't like having different coloured background & text in the Album (Grid) view use Edit > Preferences > General and untick Use custom colours for open albums, movies, etc.
With iTunes 11.0.3 and later you can enable artwork in the Songs view from View > Show View Options (CTRL+J) making it more like the old Album List view
View > Show View Options (CTRL+J) also contains options to change the sorting of grid based views
N.b. iOS 7 requires iTunes 11.1 or later. Do not downgrade iTunes if you have already upgraded your devices... Roll back of iOS is not possible.
If you feel the need to roll back to iTunes 10.7 first download a copy of the 32 bit installer or 64 bit installer as appropriate, uninstall iTunes and supporting software, i.e. Apple Application Support & Apple Mobile Device Support. Reboot. Restore the pre-upgrade version of your library database as per the diagram below, then install iTunes 10.7.
See iTunes Folder Watch for a tool to scan the media folder and catch up with any changes made since the backup file was created.

• Cover Flow Images Blurry--numbers and pages files only

I was using the Cover Flow view in Finder today, and noted that the images associated with Apple software files--pages and numbers were blurry. pdfs, Word or Excel files show up crisp and clear, as do images.
This ocurs on both my iMac and MacBook. Is there a preference setting somewhere that needs to be set to get the file "images" to show up sharp? (I had a similar problem with .jpgs created in Photoshop, and learned there was a setting in PS to not save thumbnail images that solved the sharpness problem there.)
Thank you.

I use Creative Cloud storage. Want them there. At this point, I can't do that at all. It won't open anything not saved there.
In the past people have reported problems with saving Numbers 3 documents to cloud services other than iCloud. For example, see this thread. For a while even Dropbox didn't work well, though Dropbox has since fixed that. I think the problems have something to do with the fact that a Numbers document isn't a "file"; it's actually a collection of files organized in a folder that looks like one file in Finder. I understand that the Numbers 3 format is optimized for fast cross-platform sync; in that respect, it is certainly a big step forward from previous versions. Some cloud services seem to trouble with the format, though, and that may be what you are seeing.

Quit jiggling the camera when you take the picture?
(Yes, I know it was a screen shot and not a camera.)
I'll load up iTunes 7 later tonite and see what happens.

• Minimized Cover Flow on Bookmarks page and now can't get it back

On the Bookmarks page, I moved the Cover Flow section up so that it disappeared. When I tried to show it again by moving the cursor from the top to bottom of the area is originally displayed, the CF section fails to reappear. How to get it back?

Good gracious. I was able to do that to myself in the course of seeing if I could replicate the problem.
After some swearing and cursing, I managed to get the Cover Flow back showing again in Bookmarks by rebuilding my com.apple.Safari plist file, as per the instructions in the following user tip:

• Does iTunes 10.7 (Cover-Flow work with Mavericks and if not what do I have to do?

What do I have to do to keep my 10.7 iTunes (Cover-Flow) with Mavericks?
Thanks guys all appreciated responses will be accepted in this matter.

I just had the similar issue. I redeemed my iTunes gift card then went to download something and was asked for my billing info. I completed the information and I think accepted terms and then had a pop-up telling me that my my account would be debited with the purchase. My VISA (billing info) did not appear to be charged as my gift card amount showing in the top right decreased with the purchase. So I just completing the information and hopefully it will happen the same for you! Good luck!

• Cover flow into album art and how to control iTunes from another app.

Hi all 2 areas of concen, one is coverflow/ album art and the other is itunes controller:
I have searched but cannot find the answer to this:
1) I have some songs with album info already, and I used iTunes to get the album art for coverflow etc. ... some songs from the same album did not have the album category filled in, I go back and fill it in: now how do I get iTunes to recognize the album art so it shows up for the newly corrected songs?
2) In coverflow, iTunes picked the wrong album cover, can I manually fix it/pick the right one?
3) will coverflow only show album art for those albums recognized by iTunes, or will it use album art that I get from other sources and add manually? And what will show up in my ipod?
and lastly
4), is there anyway to control iTunes without switching apps (if I am working in Word or safari and want to skip a song, etc)...is there an overlay controller?
TIA

Copy the entire folder from one drive to the other, change the path that iTunes is using to access the library.

• Please! take a quick look and give me your opinion

I want to read signals from two tasks in order to make it possible to calibrate all sensors (tasks) indiviually. My program will always read to sensors in different combinations.
This is my way to read 2 tasks "simultaneously"...
Do you think it is a good idea or ... just bad..
It does work, I think...

Tanks,
Very helpful example.
However...
When I started to build my program I used the "multiple channels" DAQmx read block, And configured a voltage task that I used for all my sensors. To scale the measured signal into correct value (in for example Newton to show on the screen) a number of calculations were applied, depending on selected sensor.
This means that I have to do the calibration of the sensors outside of Labview. Until I found the possibility to calibrate each task (individually) in MAX... This is much easier because I don't have to bother about all the calibration values and compensations that I used before. This is the reason why I want to give each sensor its own task. And when each sensor is given its own task, and I always need to measure two sensors (two channels), this problem arise.
I can se 2 possible solutions... maybe.
1. Create a scale in MAX for each sensor instead, then I should be able to use the example in the link above -- think this would work, but I need to find the slope and offset value on my own as before.
2. If there is a way to read from global viritual channels instead of tasks, and if it is possible to connect 2 viritual channels independent to he task during operation -- Probably not.
Maybe a little confuising explanation...

• How do i get avi's to play in quick look and the preview bar?

I have a MBP and i was wondering if i can get finder/Quicklook to play AVI's im pretty sure my old MB did it find but my MBP wont?
Any ideas?

Hello again
To the best of my knowledge, here is how it works. If you
have selected a preloader (meaning a SWF file and NOT a "Loading
screen" - there are two types) You will notice a progress indicator
of sorts. Normally you see it count up to 60% and the project
begins to play. What this is designed to accomplish is that the end
user would never encounter a wait for things to buffer, play a
little, wait, play a little, and so on.
So with a preloader, 60% of the project is received from the
server before the playhead is released and begins to play. The
thought behind this is that with a linear movie that plays from
start to finish, by the time the playhead would ever reach the end
of that 60% part, the remaining 40% will have downloaded and the
user will never encounter a pause.
As I understand it, the loading screen (static image) is used
when you insert a Captivate in a PDF. It serves as an indication
something is present and must be clicked to play it. I'm sure there
are other uses as well.
Cheers... Rick

• ICC profile support in Preview and Quick Look

I'm a photographer and I've noticed that Quick Look and Preview do not appear to support ICC colour profiles, is this a bug? I hope so.
JPEG images are over-saturated.

I'm not a professional, only a hobbyist, so it took me a little longer, but I also have the impression that the new Preview ignores ICC profiles.
I noticed it when moving images between my iBooks built-in and my external Eizo screen. Since the gamut of the second is much larger, images appear rather different on the two screens. In Tiger's Preview, this resulted in colors changing suddenly during the move, when the center of the image passed from one screen to the other. This effect is gone and yes, the images are over-saturated on the 'good' screen.
Jethro555, could you find a solution to the problem?
