? Cover Flow when Sharing

Can one access Cover Flow when Sharing iTunes on an ethernet network (2 x iMac G4 OS 10.4.6)

my understanding is that you can't browse covers on music shared from across a network:

... however, if someone else could confirm or deny that for dmacs, i'd be greatly obliged.

  • Cover Flow - From Shared Library

    Howdy all,
    I am sharing my iTunes library from one Mac, and accessing it from two other MAC's. The remote machines do not have access to the Cover Flow View for the shared library. Why? Is it possible to make that work?
    Thanks.

    Yeah, that's the way I used to have it set up, but my library got too big, so when I upgraded my drives, I ended up with some weird technical issue where the new drives were not recognized.....blah blah blah...so I ended up hooking them to my Mac Mini in my living room entertainment center....the short story is that OS X doesn't do drive sharing like Windows does, and it's another $200 for Airport Extreme to get it back to the position described in that URL. But the fix in the URL Does Work...I used iTunes that way for years.
    Thanks anyway.

  • Cover Flow with shared Music

    Hi,
    is it possible to use Cover Flow with my shared music?

    I have the exact same problem. I guess we're a minority enough that Apple doesn't care about those with large iPods and laptops (so no syncing).
    The problem is that with iTunes 7, it was changed to accomdate CoverFlow. Previously, all album art added was automatically embedded into the file.
    However, CoverFlow deals with loading lots of images, so iTunes 7 stores the album art in a folder - instead of embedding - in your iTunes directory as a "cache" so that it can easily and quickly retreive the images when you view CoverFlow (as opposed to having to reload every time).
    You can't use CoverFlow for iPod music because iTunes doesn't have the image data stored somewhere consistent, and so would have to reload the album art everytime you reconnect your iPod and use CoverFlow, and then keep this image data stored on your computer even if that iPod is never again connected. This could be a strain on your resources, and so I guess Apple decided to play it simple and allow you to only use CoverFlow for music it knows that it has a cache for and that it knows still exists.
    The best way around it is if you can store all your mp3s on an external drive, then when you add them to your library you'll be able to use CoverFlow.
    Other then that, Apple's message seems to be "get a desktop" or "get a nano."

  • Icons disappear in Cover Flow when window resized...

    I created a custom folder icon for my Pixelmator projects, applied it to the folder, and all looked to be perfect. However, I later discovered that when I resized the Finder window and the icon grows larger in Coverflow, my icon disappears! This seems to be the case for all of the icons I created. Is there something I'm missing? Did I do something wrong with the creation? Or is the template I'm using not working the way it's supposed to? I can post pictures or a screencast of my issue if it'd help...
    I got the template from the first post in http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=392360
    _To give you a brief idea of my creation process:_
    1. Edited template in Pixelmator (added picture on top of folder).
    2. Exported file as PNG
    3. Using IconComposer, dragged in PNG, and exported icns file
    4. Using IconDroplet, I created a usable icon
    5. Went to "Get Info" on both files and pasted new icon
    I can't figure this out. Please help!

    Finally! I'm pleased to say that I was informed of a solution today on another forum. I downloaded the program img2icns, and everything looks to be working how I want it to. Hopefully that helps you out, too! I'm marking this one 'solved.'

  • Using Cover Flow from 1 Mac on another.

    I'm putting together a music server using my Mini. The idea is to allow the other Macs on the network to access this one computer for all of the recorded music in the Mini's library. I am doing this successfully, but for two things that have to do with Album artwork and Cover Flow when running through iTunes.
    When connected to the shared iTunes folder, all of the options in the VIEW menu are grayed out — all that's available is List View. It would be great to be able to change the view to Cover Flow so that users could view the cover art just as you can from the host computer. I've gone through all of the preference panels but haven't found anything that looks like it would accomplish this. Am I missing something? Would netTunes do this for me?
    Likewise, when using Front Row to access the shared music folder, none of the artwork is present. Any way to see the art in Front Row?

    This is one that I was able to solve on my own. Thanks for all the suggestions.

  • Cover flow and album sort issues

    I just got a 80GB iPod classic for Christmas and I have noticed some annoying differences between iTunes cover flow and iPod cover flow:
    1. In iTunes cover flow, when you have songs with "Unknown Album", they clutter up the cover flow for each artist. In iPod cover flow, they are sent to the back of the cover flow in a nice little "Various Artists" cover. I like how this works on the iPod better.
    2. iTunes cover flow sorts by album artist, so you don't see a separate album for each non-album artist song.
    For example: If I set my album artist for the Saturday Night Fever soundtrack to "Saturday Night Fever" (don't ask why, this is how i like it sorted) then I will only see one "Saturday Night Fever" rather than one for Bee Gees, one for Kool & the Gang, etc.
    iPod cover flow sorts by artist, so you see a separate album for each non-album artist song. I like the way this works in iTunes better.
    3. When sorting by "Album by Year" in iTunes, syncing the iPod doesn't seem to follow the same sorting. Albums are still sorted on the iPod alphabetically. I want them to sort by year on my iPod.
    So I would appreciate it if someone could help me with all 3 of these issues. As you can see, sometimes iTunes is better for me, sometimes iPod is better for me.

    3. Playlists should be sorted in the same way as they are in iTunes. The Cover Flow order is fixed.
    This is not the case, at least not with iTunes 7.5.0.20 and my 80GB Classic running 1.0.3 on it (current version as of this writing). In iTunes, under LIBRARY, I select Music, and I have my music sorted via *Album by Year*. This works perfectly in iTunes. I'll use my Soundgarden library as an example, as it shows the problem nicely.
    *_iTunes order_:*
    Ultramega OK
    Louder Than Love
    Screaming Life/Fopp
    Badmotorfinger
    Superunknown
    Songs From The Superunknown
    Down on the Upside
    A-Sides
    That's ordered by date and is perfect. +Ultramega OK+ was released way back in 1988, while A-Sides was released nearly 10 years later in 1997. In Cover Flow View it works great. However, in the iPod it's sorted alphabetically, which is completely wrong:
    *_iPod Classic_:*
    A-Sides
    Badmotorfinger
    Down on the Upside
    Louder Than Love
    Screaming Life/Fopp
    Songs From The Superunknown
    Superunknown
    Ultramega OK
    This is totally wrong. And I haven't yet found a way to force it.
    Apple, please, this shouldn't be that difficult.

  • Cover Flow Bug

    I've noticed a bug in cover flow when using the iPod feature of the iPhone. When you first load cover flow, each of the artwork images is crystal clear. Flowing through each one, the images are perfect. However, if I scroll fast from side to side, after about 3 times, when I stop on each album, it's a bit blurry. I wait for it to become unblurry, but it stays that way. If I rotate my iPod to get out of cover flow, and back in, the covers again are just fine.
    I am able to reproduce this bug every time. I don't know if anyone else has had this issue. I just bought my iPhone from the Apple store and I have the latest updates.
    I LOVEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE my phone! This is the best thing since my first iPod, my first Mac, my first..... yes, this is just great!!!!

    When I am listening to a song and I go to cover flow it matches the song that's playing.
    Yeah, but do this: put the iPod touch sideways in the little stand, so it's showing cover flow. If you never pick up or move the iPod, the cover that's displayed will never change. The only way to get it to refresh is to turn it vertical long enough for the currently playing song to show up, then back to sideways. I did some research and it seems that the iPhone does that, too, so I figured it was either deliberate on Apple's part, or just something they haven't implemented yet.
    Here's what's kind of odd about it, though: cover flow knows when the song changes, because if you watch it closely, the text below the cover changes when the currently cover is not for the currently playing song. I don't have my iPod handy, but it's something like when the cover is current, it's the artist name and the name of the song that's playing. But when it switches to a new song, the song name is replaced by the album name. Something like that, anyway.
    In any case, I've also sent feedback to have cover flow follow the currently playing track.

  • Cover Flow help

    Cover Flow when on the Music tab is squished at the top of the screen. On the Movies and TV Show tabs it is fine. I need help figuring out why.

    Try unchecking "display album artwork" in the music preferences section when your iPod is connected and click "apply". Then sync your iPod.
    Then check "display album artwork" in the music preferences section when your iPod is connected and click "apply". Then sync your iPod again.
    This should resync the album artwork to the iPod.
    If this does not work, you might need to restore the iPod and reload the songs in order to correct this error.
    See: How to restore the iPod to factory settings.

  • Cover Flow annoyance

    Cover Flow is cool. It lets you get to music quicker and looks pretty. But I'm over it. I want to turn it off. I'm and sick and tired of it switching to cover flow when i don't want it too. Prime example is when you are lying down - You put the ipod down beside you only have it switch to cover flow. You then have to flick it back - sometimes the shaker think registers and goes into shuffle mode which is just a ***** (thank god they put a switch for that) Apple, please make a switch to turn off cover flow

    I had the same annoyance and ended up returning my 4G nano and buying a 3G refurbished. Which had a harddrive crash two days after I got it.
    I just want my 2G back I don't need any extra features, I just want a music player.

  • Problem with viewing 2 albums with the same name in Cover flow

    Hi if I have 2 albums with the same name ("The Best of" for example) but of 2 different artists there's a big problem with all idevices like iPhone...
    So when I go in iPod app and I want to watch all albums in cover flow when I choose one of these 2 albums I'll find all the songs of both albums merged...

    The MouseListener you use would have to know about both JPanels and both their repaint-methods when mouseClicked-method is called.
    Something like this:
    public class Repainter extends MouseAdapter {
    private JPanel panel1;
    private JPanel panel2;
    public Repainter( JPanel panel1, JPanel panel2 ) {
    this.panel1 = panel1;
    this.panel2 = panel2;
    public void mouseClicked( MouseEvent me ) {
    panel1.repaint();
    panel2.repaint();
    Tell me if I misunderstood the question or if you have any further qestions.

  • Cover flow missing with Icloud

    I perchased music match and now can not see the cover flow when playing song. Could someone please help me out

    I too was having the blank/black cover flow problem.
    Here's what I did:
    Right-clicked on my desktop, clicked Properties and then clicked on the Settings tab. I then clicked Advanced, then the Troubleshooting tab and then I adjusted the Hardware acceleration to Full.
    Now I'm not sure if that's going to be of any help to you, but it surely fixed my problem.
    Hopefully it fixes yours, if not, then I'm sorry and I hope you get a fix in the near future.

  • Can't view cover flow

    Message appears "itunes is unable to browse album covers on this computer". Itunes did show album covers on the computer before. The directx was updated, but directdraw or accelorater is not available to enable?". Is there away to check and fix video drivers? Would appreciate any help.
    Jen_123xc

    I am having the same problems. I just recently got my laptop working again and it doesn't want to do the cover flow when it did before. My PC with XP doesn't want to do cover flow either.
    I saw on another post of updating the DirectX drivers which I did and when I run the diagnostics it shows there are no probs but I can't seem to enable the 3D and Draw. Or, else I'm not sure how to enable them. I've also updated my Flash. HELP! I really like viewing by cover flow so would like to get it working again.

  • Cover Flow and Landscape

    I can not get my music to show in Cover flow-when I turn my touch. Also in photos when I turn the touch, the picture stays the same. Any ideas on how to fix this?? I get my videos fine in landscape.
    Thanks

    I noticed this when I was playing with a demo unit in the store today - the display doesn't switch from portrait to landscape if it's laid flat in your hand. It really has to be tipped up to trigger.
    Try holding the iPod perpendicular to your desk, and then rotating it to landscape and vice versa. If that doesn't work, take it back to the store if possible.

  • Cover flow still crashes after updating to ios 5.0.1!

    I know that many people had the cover flow bug that was crashing everytime, in my case after updating it to ios 5.0.1 it still happens! i wanted to know if to other users happen the same or if the issue was solved

    From the Users Guide:
    Browsing album artwork in Cover Flow
    When you browse music, rotate iPod touch to see your iTunes content in Cover Flow and browse
    your music by album artwork.

  • Cover Flow view with shared library?

    I use iTunes for Windows on my laptop and share my library from my iMac...is there a way to utilize cover flow view with a shared libary?

    Since just moving all my music to a NAS I was here researching the same issue. I can see the other three (only when music is specifically selected) but not Cover Flow. I believe it has been disabled. I played around with grid view with 428 albums and iTunes for Windows loads the art fresh evertime you start it and, on the smallest art size in grid view, it took a bit of time to load all the art.
    If Cover Flow needs to cache up all the art work in advance then I could see how it would easily take my setup between 45 seconds to a minute to cache them all up.
    Perhaps that would feel too clunky for Apple especially if one were to aggressively swipe through a set that wasn't completely cached.
