Cover image size, h/w-ratio

How can I get my book cover as large as possible in the store? Many books have a different hight/width ratio than what appears to be the case with my templet. They get higher cover images (and thus more visibility) in the store. It's unfair... I want hight... Can't find a way to change the ratio on the cover image.

That particular frame is about 13.4 x 10 inches. I wasn't about to determine the exact size but that gets you very close to including all of the cropped image when the Fit Photo to Frame is not selected. You don't need to crop it in Photoshop, just crop the original in iPhoto to a Custom size, 13.4 x 10.
As far as resolution is concerned the larger the image the better, pixel wise. So always set your camera to the largest size and quality level possible. You can always downsize but you can't upsize.
Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • IPhoto Calendar Cover - Image size

Does anyone know the preferred size, resolution, and/or aspect ratio for images to be properly displayed on calendar pages and covers? Specifically, I am having trouble with the cover image for the "Modern Lines" template. I can't get my image to fit properly; in most cases it is too large and I can't reduce it any further using the iPhoto contextual menu that appears. But if I reduce the size of the image in Photoshop, then iPhoto still blows it up too large, and it again cannot be reduced sufficiently.
Some documentation on recommended image sizes and resolutions would be appreciated!!
    thanks

  • Image Size or Aspect Ratio?  Or??

I am working on a Premiere CS5 movie project that requires some stills to be embedded within the video clips.  The Premiere sequence is set to 1920x1080 (1.0) using high def footage.
The stills are all very large files, so I want to reduce them to something closer to the video size.  Using Image Size I set the width to 1920 then the height comes out greater than 1080 but that should be no problem.  When I play the movie in Premiere I can see that there is a noticeable difference in the size of the video image compared to the still image.  The still has black bars on each side.  I can zoom each still up to fill in the full frame, but that is not desirable.
So I tried an experiment in Photoshop CS5.  Went to Open New and chose the film and video preset.  Then I drew a nice big circle in the middle of the canvas with two smaller circles in opposing corners.  Saved that as PSD with 1920x1080 square pixels.  When I added that image to the  video sequence it fit right in with the video images and there was no noticable size variation when the movie went from video to still to video.  The circles I drew remained round and appeared just as desired, so I presume I got the aspect ratio right.
Then I opened another film and video preset and on this one I used the move tool to drag one of my still images over to the new canvas, saved with the correct attributes and added it to my sequence and it played perfect.
Now for my question.  Is there a simpler process than what I described here to getting an image into the proper size and ratio to match my video settings?  Dragging each image onto a new canvas with video presets is a bit time consuming and I'm sure there must be a simple way to accomplish what I need.  I don't see a way to just apply the film and video preset attributes to an image that is already open in Photoshop.
    Any ideas??
    Thanks

Yeah, I'm having trouble putting the problem into words.  You almost have to see it happening.  If I was smarter about this stuff it would be easier to explain.
When I play the video clips in Premiere they look correct in the preview monitor.  When the movie gets to the stills that are inserted between video clips there is a noticable difference in how the image "fits" into the preview monitor.  It appears that the still image is not as wide as the video.  The project and videos are set to 1920x1080 (1.0) so it seems to me that if I set the image size of a still to 1920 then the still should fill the same width as the video did.
Photoshop won't allow me the directly change the image size to exactly 1920x1080.  When I set the width to 1920 the height automaticlly goes to 1235.  And that image results in what I described above.
But if I create a new canvas using film and video presets I can set it to 1920x1080.  Then if I use the move tool to drag my still image onto that new canvas I can save it with the exact same size as my videos.  And when I do that it plays perfect in the video sequence as you can't see any difference in the appearance of the size of the still image compared to the video when they play as a movie.
So, what other method do I have available to get that same film and video present into a still image?  Is it possible that it is simply a problem with the slight difference in the image size I get when using Image Resize?   I haven't researched a way to unlink the H x W settings in that panel.  If that's possible then perhaps that will give me an easier way to do this.
Did that make it any clearer??
    Thanks

  • What is the required book cover image size for ePub?

    Hi all
I am trying to follow the insturcitons in the Publisher Setup guide for uploading my ePub file to the iBook store. Having gone through this process with Amazon I am gobsmacked by how unhelpful the guidance is from Apple.
It is asking me for a cover image but I cannot see anything telling the required spec for this - on Amazon they tell you min and max dimensions and what the required dpi is but (unless I've missed a whole bunch of instrucitons somewhere!) I see no such info in the guide or in the iTunes connect screens.
Can someone please help me here?  After googling I found these forum pages and saw that someone had said the cover image must be at least 600dpi and max height of 740 pixels - is that right? (odd as on Amazon you only need 72dpi!)
Just in case anyone can help here too - my ePub file already has the cover image included in it - do I therefore need to separetely add this standalone cover image?
Really grateful if anyone can help on this.
    Many thanks
    Karen Inglis

    From Apple about book covers:
JPEG with “.jpg” extension (quality unconstrained) or PNG with “.png” extension
    RGB (screen standard)
600 pixels minimum along the larger axis. For an average trade paperback, this could be 400x600minimum size, as the books are generally taller than they are wide.
Covers may not reference pricing, the physical edition, or include any other wording that may notnecessarily be true for the digital edition.
Yes, a separate cover file is needed for display. My experience is if you have a cover for Amazon that is 600 px or greater on the longest side, you are fine with Apple.
Step back and take a breath. We all go through this the first time.

  • 10.9.3 finder cover flow doesn't save image size

I went from Snow Leopard 10.6.8 to Mavericks 10.9.3. Everything went ok, but I have one annoying problem though.
Everytime I open a cover flow window in Finder I have to resize the image preview section. The Finder window size is saved,
but not the actual image size of the cover flow. It always goes back to a default, very small, size everytime I reopen the Finder window.
Didn't have this problem in Snow Leopard. It worked great. I just know one other person with the same problem. He just bought his MacBook Pro with Mavericks
and I am on a late 09 MacBook. So it shouldn't be a problem with just my Mac and Mavericks.
    So my question is;
Will there be any solution to this soon? Maybe a program update to be released, regarding this issue?
    Thank you for any feedback!

Ok, more information for anyone that might care. The wake-up seems to be the familiar dark wake in order to go into hibernate mode. Except now, it's a death wake. Looking at the logs, I see that it happens exactly 70 minutes after sleeping, even though hibernatemode = 0 (which shouldn't hibernate at all!)
So my power settings look like this:
    Currently in use:
    standbydelay         4200
    standby              1
    halfdim              1
    hibernatefile        /var/vm/sleepimage
    darkwakes            0
    gpuswitch            2
    disksleep            10
    sleep                10
    autopoweroffdelay    14400
    hibernatemode        0
    autopoweroff         1
    ttyskeepawake        1
    displaysleep         2
    acwake               0
    lidwake              1
standbymode is 70 minutes, what a coincidence. I'm going to try setting it to 0 and see what that does.

  • Can you lock aspect ratio, define border and image size with automated BatchCropStraighten?

    Hello everybody,
I need to crop and straighten a load of scanned rectangular stamps that will start as a single scanned image, and I want to lock the aspect ratio to 1:1, define the top border size (such that the the borders on the sides will be bigger than those top and bottom) and specify the output image size.
Does anybody know if this is possible using the automates BatchCropStraighten function?
    Thanks,
    Paul

    paulsinyard wrote:

I know of no BatchCropStraighten feature in Photoshop.  Photoshop has a Plugin CropPhotosAuto that you access through menu File>Automate>Crop and Straighten Photos.
On my windows system its "C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CC 2014\Required\Plug-Ins\Automate\CropPhotosAuto.8li". This plug-in is designed to help you scan several image with a single scan. All the plug-in does is to look at the current active document looking for what appears to be a scanned image and to create an additional document that contain a straighten version of the image the size of the image. No files are created nothing is saved only one document is processed even if you had several scans open in Photoshop.  When the Plug-in ends the current active document is the last document the plugin created.
You may be able to program a Photoshop script that would fit the create documents to some size then add canvas that would make all the documents have the same Aspect ratio and size. The borders added would be equally sizes on opposite sides top and bottom the same left and right the same.  However the image aspect ration inside the borders may vary.
I created a fake scan with five simulated images. Not straight and not all rectangles  and duped the document so two would be open the used File>Automate>Crop and Straighten Photos when the process finished I spread out the document so you could see all that are open in this screen capture.

  • Need help changing size and aspect ratio for 500+ images

Thank you for reading this! I have about 500 images of people in different poses. They're all extracted on a transparency as PNGs. They vary in aspect ratio, dimensions and position of the person within the frame - for some the feet are very close to the bottom of the frame and for some, they're higher up. I need to equalize all 3 of these qualities, so that if superimposed, they look like a video unfolding with the same zoom. My ideal size would be 800x800 at 300ppi.
Is there a way to batch even a part of the process and keep the png format? I had the images in PSD initially but they were too massive so creating catalogs with them was prohibitive.
If not possible to do a batch, what would be the best (easiest) and fastest way to do it? I'm thinking that maybe creating some template where an oval shape the size of the head can help create consistency of the size of the person and a line that helps set up the distance from the bottom?
I so appreciate any help you have to offer. Part of my problem is that I don't know what these processes are called so I don't even know what to search for. If you can even name the actions that I need, it would be of great help. I already paid a designer to do the extraction and they were supposed to do this formatting as well and they didn't so my budget is shot. I'm hoping that if I understand what the steps are, I can do them myself.
    Thank you!

If you download my crafting actions package you can record an action that uses one of my plug-in scripts to do that process. You could then batch that action and process your 500 png image files.

  • Cover resolution-image size

I have no access to the iTunes Store because I'm not in the US and don't have a US credit card.
Now that iTunes comes with Cover Flow I would like album artwork to look gorgeous on my 17" Flat CRT Dell. I'm trying to find an optimal resolution (dpi) and image size for cover art.
I've made some tests with jpeg 500x500 pixels at 105 dpi and with png and psd. Also with 600x600 at 127 dpi. When in the viewer they looks OK but it seems Cover Flow blurs a bit the image when in Full Screen. Any ideas?
    Thanks a lot

What I meant was I don't have access to the ITunes artwork.
But back to my question, don't you feel that when in Full screen mode the image is blured a little?

  • Change Image Size in existing Video Project?

First post, Premiere NOOB.  I have a Premiere Pro CS6 developed video that I had done for me for which I also got as part of the receivables all the component Premiere files so that, 1) I could make minor changes myself (I have CS6), and 2) if the developer was unavailable in the future (which is the case), I had everything needed to continue the project.
The video includes a Star Wars style screen crawl.  It was originally developed to fit inside an existing PowerPoint presentation in the traditional, not widescreen, format.  Now I want to post this on YouTube.  I have made text changes to the crawl and such and it works fine, except the background image is still narrow and thus there is black space on either side of the video when rendered, which also then shows in YouTube.  The original background image in the file is plenty large enough to cover a full HD width.  Is there a way to just expand the background image to cover the entire widescreen without changing anything else?

  • Podcast Cover Image & Recent Podcasts Not Appearing

I know this question has been asked before, but I can't seem to get the Podcast Cover Image to appear on my client's iTunes podcast page both within iTunes and on Apple's iTunes website. When I'm subscribed to it, it does show up. What am I doing wrong?
Additionally I'm having a problem with my last 3 podcasts not appearing, and I can't figure out what happened there.
Below are links to the page on Apple site and the feed I'm using, but please let me know if I need to provide more. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

    feed://livinggraceomaha.org/lg-sermonpodcasts.xml

Your feed is OK, except that most of your episodes do not have 'guid' tags, and your enclosure tags are missing the 'length' attribute which should show the file size in bytes. Neither of these is serious and they would not cause a problem.
The Store does go through slow patches sometimes: there have been numerous occasions when people have complained about not seeing updates for two or three weeks, and I'm afraid that you've probably just hit one of these. There isn't really anything you can do about it. You could try emailing them at podcasts 'at' apple.com, but frankly you are likely to get a form answer telling you how to add episodes (which you already know). I'm afraid that it's just a question of waiting.

  • Image size in iBooks Author 'Gallery' when at full page

    Hi
I'me looking to make an image gallery (c 40 images)  to fill a complete landscape page in IBAuthor
I now need to get the images from the photographers.
I was told to request them in the size below but I've just noticed that in the gallery format at full screen, the images look to be a different size due to the thumbnails at the bottom which I wish to include (I know you can untick this option)
Can anyone advise me if I need to ask for more or different information?
Specifically should I ask for images at 1024x768 pixels or at another size?
    Many thanks.
    Chris
    Working with images
Photo should no larger than 500-600 kb each. iBookstore will ony accept books up to 2.0 GB for publication so I keep the size down for best results and to avoid performance issues.
The (older) iPad display has a 1024x768 pixel screen so this should be the maximum size of the image. To make sure that all ipad users can view images to the best effect.
Use JPG for opaque raster images and PNG for transparent raster images whenever possible.
Use an RGB color profile in your images to improve size and processing time
Cover images should be 1400 pixels wide in the smaller dimension

I'm guessing that they will be jpegs but I can ask for them in any format you consider best. I guess that's part of the question. The notes above say:
Use JPG for opaque raster images and PNG for transparent raster images whenever possible.
Use an RGB color profile in your images to improve size and processing time
Which format should I ask for?
    Thanks

  • Gallery title text cut off and cover image not updating

    Hello,
I've been struggling with this for a couple of weeks now, and it's driving me mad. I've been making a book in iBook Author on my iMac (10.10.2). When I preview it in iBooks on the mac it all looks fine, but when I send it to my iPad2 (iOS 8.2), which I do via dropbox, the front cover image reverts to the default for the template I choose, and gallery and interactive widget title text gets cut off (see attached pic) regardless of the size I make it, or the indent I specify.
I've tried deleting the book several times, restarted the iPad, and whatever I do it still appears the same.
I'd be grateful for any suggestions.
    Cheers,
    Kev.

    Hi Christine,
When you say " It's not there when viewed outside of Cp/swf. Using v5.5.l", does that mean this problem only occurs in a specific output?
Try this -- Go to preferences-- SWF Size and Quality and under customer, uncheck Advance Project Compression, republish the course and check the results.

  • Image size and/or cropping with iMovie 9

I have a video in .mov format that was created by Roxio's Easy VHS to DVD software. The movie is a copy of a 4:3 aspect ratio videotape. When I review the clips from this movie in iMovie, the size and aspect ratio are identical to the original. However, when I move the clips into an iMovie project, the aspect ratio appears to be the same but all of the edges are severely cropped (it's like one used a zoom feature on the image). I get the same result whether I select 4:3 or 16:9 aspect ratio for the project. I have also had this experience with iPhoto -cropping occurs on any photo being printed or exported. I can convert the .mov into a video DVD or any format, without aspect ratio change cropping. But, that conversion doesn't allow me to edit the .mov.
How do I solve this problem?

I wish someone could answer this. I'm having the same problem. I imported video from my digital tape camera using iMovie (automatically saved as .dv files). In the clip viewer of iMovie (lower right part of iMovie), they appear whole. But when I drag into a project, the clips are severely cropped, just like the original post describes. It doesn't matter if I set the project to 16:9, 4:3, or 3:2 - the same cropping occurs.
    What's up with this?

  • How do you change the image size and resolution in photoshop everytime I change the width the height changes my measurements will not stay

Can someone assist me with changing image size and resolution.  each time I change the width the height changes and vice/versa?

There's a chain link between width and height. The point is to keep the aspect ratio the same, otherwise your picture would get stretched.
You click on the chain-link to shut that off and you can adjust width and height separately.
Also could you give us your version of Photoshop, what OS you are running it on (Windows 7 for example) and what exactly you want to do with your document?
Resolution is the print term for how many pixels will be printed on an inch of paper. It doesn't apply if your image is intended for screen viewing.

  • Photoshop CC 2014 Screws Up Image Size

Every time I open a document in Photoshop CC 2014, the size of the canvas is basically half its real image size.  I took a video of my screen so that you can understand what is happening to me and hopefully figure out what I'm doing wrong.
I make an image that is 800x300 pixels at 72 ppi
The image opens up looking half the size (about 400x150 pixels).
I make a text box with a font at 12 pt, and it comes out tiny.
I enlarge the font, type "Testing 1 2 3," and then export the image as a PNG file.
The PNG file comes out as 800x300 pixels, but the text is pixelated.
What in the world am I doing wrong?  Never, in all my years of using Photoshop, had I encountered such a problem before now.
Notice at the bottom of the screen that the canvas is at 100% the entire time.

You post so little useful information. You video show you using a mac the the video setting look like 1080 yet the video does no fill my 1920 width but does fill the 1080 height.  Your Mac launch icon look huge so you your 800x300 canvas looks small on you desktop so I'm guessing retina display with lots of pixels 4:3 aspect ratio.  The ping posted here look bad because of the way this site scale images. if you open it in a new tab it looks great even when I click on it thus site html pop-up  image display of the png looks good.  I see no pixelation and the edges look sharp ans smooth.
