Cover splitting near the hinges on Satellite P100

The orange cover on my Satellite P100 keeps splitting by the hinges, even though I now take great care in opening and closing the lid. Toshiba have replaced it under warranty.
I think the hinge friction is too strong for the cover. Does anyone have a similar problem and if so what can we do?
It seems pointless to just keep replacing the cover each time.

A friend of mine has sent the notebook to replace the upper cover and everything was done for free!!! The warranty has covered the replacement.
The ASP technicians has changed the faulty part and said that new top cover was usedSeems they changed something on the cover near the hinges because until now everything is ok
Happy new year to all :)

  • Re: Split on upper lid on Satellite P100

I have had my laptop now for about 2 years. During the first year a split appeared near the hinge and the lid was replaced under warranty.
Now nearly a year later the same thing has happened again and the laptop is out of warranty.
Has anyone else had a similar problem and where can I get a permanent solution to the problem so that it does not need replacing again.

    Hi Michael
Unfortunately, you will have to replace this cracked lid again.
Something similar happened to a friend of mine and since the second replacement everything is ok now.
It seems the ASP has replaced the upper lid with the new designed one.
    Good luck

  • Bizarre noises near the processor on Satellite M40

I have a notebook Satellite M40-243, I sent it to service under warranty for a problem of graphic display.
It returned yesterday, now it work good but the processor emits bizarre noises.
The warranty service doesn't want to fix that because "there isn't any disfonctionnements??!
    Listen these sounds: http://yang69.evoconcept.net/sounds/bruitsproc.mp3
    Is it normal?!
    I think no
(Sorry for my bad English :)

Its very strange sound but I dont think that comes from the CPU.
It sounds more like a Fan, CD drive or HDD.
However, this should be definitely checked Its not normal behaviour

  • Satellite P100: Cover hinge cracks

Jeffrey said that technicians replaced something inside the cover, and then all was well.
I would very much like to know what they did, so that I can ask for the same!
The cover on my P100 has been changed twice already but has failed again in the same place, by the left hinge, after very little use.

    Hallo Allend
Toshiba have just repaired my Satellite P100 for the third time, under guarantee, although the initial period had expired.
This time they asked me to send it back for "expert attention" direct to Toshiba, rather than to an approved repair agent.
The cover looks better this time - previously there was an uneven finish over the hinge fixings which is where the cover split.
The repair note states that the cover and both hinges have been replaced, and that the replacement parts have been "updated to finally resolve the problem". This is a rough translation from French.
If I were you I would insist that only these the new parts are used.

  • Cover crack issue on Satellite P100

The outer plastic of my laptop started cracking near the hinges. I phoned Toshiba a while ago and they said that because it was just cosmetic damage, it wasn't covered in the warranty.
However it has gotten worse over time and part of the plastic has now broken off and I'm sure it will eventually lead to me needing to get it repaired. Is there a way I can contact Toshiba via email?
My warranty has now run out.

    Hi there,
unfortunately there is no email support but I would suggest you to contact the nearest available servicepartner from toshiba and talk with them. The link to find one is here:

  • Brand new and the hinge has randomly started to seperate

I bought this computer on December 22 and have been SO careful with it. Randomly a couple weeks ago it started splitting at the hinge. It has been getting progressively worse. I'm shipping it back to apple for them to fix tomorrow I'm just curious has anyone else heard of this happening for no reason?

Hi, jfg. No one else has posted any report of a failure even remotely like yours, to my knowledge. It looks as if someone opened the display with the computer sitting on a desktop and something, perhaps a pen or pencil, got pinched between the lower rim of the Aluminum display back panel and the left rear corner of the lower case as the display approached its full-open position, prying the display back panel away from the rest of the display assembly. I don't know, but I imagine that panel is glued, rather than screwed in place. Did the glass not break? If not, that's amazing.
I'll be interested to hear what Apple says about it, if anything.

  • Re: Satellite A300-1MZ hot area near the touchpad

    Hi all.
    I've a *Satellite A300-1MZ*
I'd know what lies beneath the touchpad. The area becomes hot enough.
I'd like to know also what is positioned in the bottom left of the notebook, the area becomes a bit hot after a couple of hours of use.
If possible, attached me a pattern that will show me the placement of all components of the notebook.
    Thanks
p.s.the cpu temperatures are regular: about *42-45* with normal usage

If you see WLAN switch on the left it does not mean the WLAN card is also placed there.
On the right side is placed main HDD. On the left is additional one.
Your notebook is delivered with one HDD and this means just right side will be/should be more warm than left. Remove cover placed under the left side and you will see there is nothing inside.
Just for your info: WLAN card on Satellite A300 is placed under the keyboard (in the middle) and not near the WLAN switch.

  • Satellite P100 - Cannot delete the data from CD-RW disks

    I have a Toshiba Satellite P100 laptop.
According to the User Manual it says:
You cannot partially delete any data written to a CD-RW
I thought the whole idea of using a CD-RW was so you could delete whatever you wanted to and use that part of the disc again and again.
    Can someone explain?

I didnt find this info in user manual and if you have burned some data on the CD-RW disks then it should be possible to format such CD-RW using an 3rd party tool like Nero Burning ROM for example.
I did it many times using Nero and was always successful

  • Satellite P100: Can I connect two external monitor to VGA & DVI port at the same time?

The Satellite P100 comes with two external monitor port. A VGA and a DVI. Can you have have two external monitor working at the same time? Can you have two external monitor as well as your internal display working at the same time (for a total of 3 display at the same time?
Here is what I have confirm:
Internal display + DVI connector display
    OR
Internal display + VGA connector display
    Is it possible to have:
DVI connector display + VGA connector display?
    OR
DVI connector display + VGA connector display + Internal display?

As far as I know this is not possible and you can use either DVI or VGA port.
For signal output can be used only one port for external display.

  • Satellite P100: How to remvoe the Touchpad shortcuts

I have a Satellite p100 and I don't find the shortcuts around the touchpad very helpful. I would like to remove them but can't find out how to do it.
    Can anyone help?

    Hi
I dont know if its possible but if yes then you should take a look into the touchpad properties.
Go to the control panel -> mouse -> device settings -> synaptic settings
There you will find different options like Tapping, buttons, virtual scrolling, etc

  • Satellite P100-119: Is it possible to upgrade the CPU to Duo Core?

Ive a Satellite P100-119 Notebook with 1,66Ghz (Duo Core). Is it possible to install a faster CPU (2,0 Ghz Duo Core) in this Notebook, without exchanging the Mainboard?

Yep, that's theorically possible. Both CPUs fit in the same physical 479Y socket, and today's BIOSes are smart enough to check the CPU speed.
However, if you're gonna do this by yourself, have lots of care when disassembling your laptop, and keep in mind that it may void the warranty. Keep in mind that you risk turning your laptop into a useless heap of junk if anything goes wrong (e.g. bad dissasembly or bad use of thermal grease). I repeat: be extra careful if you're replacing the CPU by yourself. Go to a service partner if in doubt.

  • On my Satellite P100-347 cooling fan runs all the time

    Hi,
I think I might have a problem with fan on my Satellite P100-347. It seems to be continually working at all times and is a lot louder than when I purchased the computer. Initially it used to just switch off and on when required, I think this might now be wrong.
    Please help.

    Hi Beata
I agree with Sanremo suggestions; its not known to me how old your notebook is but from time to time its necessary to clean the cooling fans. The dust and debris inside the notebook could prevent the cooling modules from properly working!
The properly fresh air circulation is also very important. Be sure that there is enough free space around the notebook. Do not use the notebook on the knees or in the bed. In such case the notebook cannot be cooled in the right way and the high temperature can damage some parts like GPU on the board.
But if you think there is an serious hardware problem you should contact the authorized service provider in your country.
Good luck and greetings to Poland ;)

  • Can't find my model Satellite P100 model PSPA3C-D300E in the support list

The model munber shown on the bottom of my Satellite P100 labtop does not appear in the list of models on the Product Support page. What should I choose for a PSAA3C-WD300E?

Wow - quick response again. I am impessed with this forum, if somewhat less so of Toshiba support.
Rincewind quickly confirmed that my P100 satellite labtop has no internal microphone. Well the guy at Canada service might have been trying to say that, as I asked in so many words. But after repeatedly cautioning that I would have to pay for his advise, seemed only prepared to suggest that the problem was probably the external microphone port. Yes, I have an external mic that has serves me well on other PCs --just not this one. OK, the headset speakers are are great and would be all I need if it weren't for Skype.
Basically I am stuck at the same point of not knowing whether there is a hardware fault in the mic port or I need some sort of driver. But I now have the phone number of repair shop and some reference numbers that will enable me to buy their support.
Since the speakers work, I doubt it's a driver issue, but it can't hurt to re-install the Conexant sound driver listed for your model and operating system (Vista or XP).  If the microphone continues to be unrecognized, then it is likely a hardware failure.  Toshiba does not do component repair, so the 'fix' is to replace the entire system board at a cost of $425 (US).  This is madness, as far as I am concerned, but I don't make up Toshiba's business rules.
You may also, as a last resort, use the recovery media to put the laptop back to 'out-of-the-box' condition.  This is the so-called 'gold standard' for hardware diagnosis.  If the microphone is still not detected when plugged in after this, then it is hardware failure.  Of course you need to have a verified backup before you even consider this rather extreme action.
I'd suggest that you look into one of the many USB microphones available rather than spend a penny on Toshiba's paid support, given what their response is likely to be.
