Coverage

I'm very upset lately with the coverage that I'm receiving from Verizon.  For this company to be the #1 covered area in the US you would figure we wouldn't have so many dropped calls.  Recently my husband and I had to buy a booster for our home just to use our phones in our house.  This is nuts. Seeing that 95% of American's use cell phones as their main source of communications you would think we wouldn't drop so many calls.  I'm so frustrated with this company right due to this lack of coverage.  I feel that Verizon should reimburse us for this booster.

Coverage isn't guaranteed inside of buildings. Can you make calls outside of your home?

  • Lack of coverage

I've looked through the forums and see many people complaining about a lack of coverage and then a few customers replying by stating "you should have known within 14 days that you didn't have coverage.  It's your fault you're stuck in the contract."  Which sure, if the contract states you get a 14 day trial, so be it, but that doesn't cover all the bases.  My phone worked fine for more than 14 days, so I was okay with my coverage.  We moved after that point and noticed that our service was rather dismal (can't make calls in the house, had to go outside).  I went through all the fun loops of talking to different people at Verizon, which led to them sending an extender to our house.  It's nice in theory, except that it struggles to actually give us any more signal.  On top of it not actually helping anymore, we now have another concern.  When the power goes out, i lose all service again.  Tough crap if something bad happens and I need to make a call.  Guess I'll just have to step outside into the storm.  Yeah, I could buy a battery backup unit, but that would be me throwing more money at a problem I shouldn't have.  I'm running out of options, but still have time left on my contract.  Would love for Verizon to contact me and either figure out how to fix the issue, or let me out of my contract.
Here's looking at you Verizon Wireless Customer Support

We have been with them for years, would love for them to care. but I have seen the dwindling support and the removing of power from those who use to be able to help over those years. I challenge any verizon employee to be seen even. I cant even find an e mail address or any other way to contact verizon other than to buy more from them. This is their "provided customer service" so thought I would use it as a last effort as I know of nothing else to do. I was hoping someone out there had some luck somehow and could give some advice or one of those employees I have seen on here rarely in the past might be able to help or something.
I basically came here  assuming I was going to just have to cancel our account as the early cancel fees would be cheaper than continuing to pay for nothing till contracts up. buying their booster the store tried to sell us would probably solve the problem and may be cheaper in the long run but I am also tired of the "give us money while we do less" crap going on with this company. 5 years ago we had fine enough service in my house, we have watched it fade over the years (even tho they say they are putting up better faster service in the area) until we had to go outside to keep our calls connected to now, we are put in roaming while at home. I shouldnt have to keep paying more to keep my service I originaly paid for in my opinion.
I thank you for any help you can find and your continued responses on this thread. But this is also not your responsibility. I am thankfull for anything you can find tho. I am also doing my research into who all I can complain to, not that that will help either, but it might keep one more person from them and much like here it is probably only good for venting. nothing will come of it, but it least it wont stay pent up inside.

  • How do I setup my Airport Extreme so that I can extend the coverage of my existing AT&T wifi network?

How do I setup my Airport Extreme so that I can extend the coverage of my existing AT&T wifi network?

Start by establishing a permanent fixed Ethernet cable connection from one of the available LAN <-> ports on the ATT modem/router to the WAN "O" port on the AirPort Extreme.
Ethernet cabling can be run up to 300+ feet or 100 meters, so you should be able to locate the AirPort Extreme exactly where it will be needed to provide more wireless signal coverage.
Configure the AirPort Extreme to "create" a wireless network using exactly the same wireless network name, same wireless security setting, and same wireless network password that the ATT wireless is using.
The final step is to insure that the AirPort Extreme is configured to operate in Bridge Mode, so it will work correctly with the ATT modem/router.
If you need more specific steps, we need to know what operating system you are using on your Mac or PC. If you have a Mac and do not know which operating system it is using.....click the Apple icon in the upper left corner of the screen and then click About This Mac, and post back with the OS X version number that you see there.

My ipod nano 6th gen fell out of my pocket and the screen cracked badly, is there any coverage for this under warranty? I just bought it a month ago. If not what are the options for getting it fixed? It is pretty frustrating, it fell from about 3 feet out of my pocket and now looks like it was beaten by a hammer.

That's where I would begin, too, with
    Repair Disk
Insert Installer disk and Restart, holding down the "C" key until grey Apple appears.
Go to Installer menu (Panther and earlier) or Utilities menu (Tiger) and launch Disk Utility.
Select your HDD (manufacturer ID) in the left panel.
Select First Aid in the Main panel.
(Check S.M.A.R.TStatus of HDD at the bottom of right panel, and report if it saysanything but Verified)
Click Repair Disk on the bottom right.
If DU reports disk does not need repairs quit DU and restart.
If DU reports errors Repair again and again until DU reports disk is repaired.
If DU reports errors it cannot repair you will need touse autility like TechTool Pro,Drive Geniusor DiskWarrior
First we need to determine if the issue you are experiencing with the computer is software or hardware based. Once we have gotten things sorted out there should be time enough to make you decision about keeping or returning it.

  • 3G switching back to EDGE because of poor ATT coverage major battery drain?

I have the orig iPhone, my friend cam to my office today with the 3G iPhone. We kinda marked off all the areas that the 3G would drop and EDGE pick up. The 3G phone basically had more areas that it did not have coverage than it did. Every time the phone would re-scan, and EDGE would pop back up. It probably dropped to EDGE 20 times as we walked different areas over lunch. After seeing that 3G does not have good coverage anywhere by my house or office I think I will wait for the 3G coverage to get better... I am in Orange County So Cal, was thinking the coverage would be perfect?? Also, it seems all the back & forth with the phone trying always to be on 3G when the coverage is poor drained the battery to 20% in a 2 hour period, with push off, screen down, wifi off local settings off.
Anybody have any benchmarks on the amount of draining happens during the phone trying to always scan for a 3G connection?

While I don't have any true benchmarks, I can say that I've tested the battery life with personal usage both with 3G on and 3G off for a day to see what was up with my extremely poor battery life. I can say that turning 3G off made a huge difference for me. It increased the battery life of my iPhone 3G to about what it was with my original iPhone. I can say that I'm probably getting roughly 1.5x - 2x the battery life I was with 3G enabled by just turning it off.
With 3G on but little to no coverage, the phone is ramping up the work it's doing to try to obtain and keep that connection. If it's just not available, you'll definitely see the phone's battery draining faster than normal as it tries to acquire signal. Remember the days of poor phone coverage in general? Phones drained batteries in much the same way.
Sure, it ***** to turn 3G off since it's something that I'm basically paying for but I'd much rather have a phone that makes it through an entire day of usage rather than one I'm finding I have to be careful about how much I use it just so I don't have to charge it twice in one day. It's more desirable to me to be able to use my phone for a longer period of time than to have a fast data connection. Besides, WiFi isn't as big of a battery drainer as the 3G connection is so I'm perfectly content with switching that on if I need fast web access. Also, there's nothing stopping me from turning 3G back on when I'm in a good coverage area (basically anywhere outside around here... I'm in Orange County, too) at which point the battery performance is better anyway.

  • Is there another provider with good Customer Service and good Coverage over Oxford, Main?

    Hi,
    Reason
I am from UK and am trying to find out how best to sign on to a US mobile network and one with the appropriate coverage, as I will be in New England for 3 months, 2 of that around Oxford, Maine. I have joined this forum just hoping for more helpful advice having experienced a very poor Sales & Customer support via both the Web Chat and Phone medium.
    Poor WebChat Support
Earlier whilst finding from the website the network coverage claims by Verizon over the Oxford area, I took up the WebChat support that popped up. The first Chat agent advised Verizon don't do PAYG! Have disappointedly signed off, I reasoned to myself that can't be as there was an option to select Prepaid coverage on the Verizon interactive map! So I persevered with exploring the Verizon website and found a whole section on Prepaid, with a even a dedicated WebChat button on the page. So realising it must have been a terminology misunderstanding, I clicked on the WebChat request to try to ask for any pre-requisites, as when I was last in Canada (Ottawa) to buy a SIM, evidently it is not common to sell PrePaid in Canada. It was over an hour to get one sorted because of all sort of procedures. The second Chat agent at least admit he didn't know what is PAYG- then even when I spelt it out he only understood it as another term for Prepaid- then advised he can't help me (even though I later found out it is even the actual name of one of your number of Prepaid Plans available!)! Instead he informed I best call Customer Support on 9085594899 despite reminding him I am in the UK. When I asked about hours of service and the time difference (being at 17:00 hrs in the UK) - he told me not to worry as it's 24 hours support!
    Poor Phone Support
The number given turned out to be only for Roaming and Mobile data support only! The first option requiring a registered number which obviously I don't have, so selecting the second the call just got cut-off eventually after ringing on unanswered! Frustrated I found via the Contact Us link the supposedly 24 hours number for Pre-paid Customers 8882946804. After finding the one option to speak to an agent without having to key in a registered mobile number first (I think Credit Card payment), again the call just got cut-off eventually after ringing on unanswered. Then thought may be best try the Consumer Sales line 08002564646 given on the page, and it finally got answered but turns out to be for Business account only (which is a different number according to the webpage!) At least the Business Account agent heard my problem and agreed to stay online until she successfully transfer me to a Prepaid agent. The Prepaid agent on the otherhand couldn't be less helpful. Completely ignored my query on any pre-requistes to sign on any Prepaid plans just wanted to know which Prepaid plans I was interested in and then just rolled off the tariffs for the plan I happened to mention and wanted to get me off the phone. I had to ask her again for any other common requirements - she just say I pay for the tariff plan! No interest to talk me through the process.
Extra item only identified on FORUM under a topic "pay as you go activation fee?"
Yet with such poor assisstance from the formal sales/customer service that I thought to try to search for better awareness within the Forum.  To my surprise it was only here I learn of  an activation fee to add to any Prepaid plan irrespective of Phone in Box or Customer own Device! As explained by AyaniB_VZW .
Whereupon I gone back to the Verizon Wireless website on Prepaid plans and below is all that it has summarised with the relevant words highlighted in RED by me- NO mention of Activation Fee. Where will I find this activation fee identified on the Prepaid plans pages rather 'hidden' behind small print/ T&C link? As it seems Verizon has good coverage and range of Prepaid options - but inadvisable to incurr any issues or queries after taking up the service.
    "Prepaid Plan
    Get Freedom & Flexibility
The wireless service you want. No annual contract. Join over 5 million prepaid wireless users on America’s most reliable wireless network with no credit check, no hidden fees or charges and no bills.
    How it works:
Simply pay up front to enjoy unlimited talk, text and a prepaid data plan on your 3G smartphone. If you go over your data allowance, pay just 5¢ per megabyte."
Where did I miss the activation fee term when signing onto PrePaid Plan on the Verizon Wireless site?

  • Got 3G coverage yet not connecting to web

My Iphone 4 has stopped connecting to the internet but I have got 3G coverage. The loading cirle moves as normal yet the page doesn't load and a message comes up ; cannot open page - safari cannot open the page because it is not connected to the internet.
I have went through all the setting i.e full reset on my phone with no joy.
Is it because I have not updated my software since I got the phone a month ago for it's still got versio 4.3.3.?

    1) If you have updated OVI Maps application to v3.06 this uses a different set of maps to those preinstalled on mass memory for v3.04. You may need to delete E:\CITIES + .qf file usually at bottom of list if using File Manager in Office folder, re-start OVI Maps application to re-initialise and re-define necessary folder structure to download more maps with OVI Suite > Maps on PC
    3) and 4) probably related as settings sent by Tesco and saved by you end up in wrong destination (Uncategorised). Go to Menu > Settings > Connectivity > Settings > Destinations > Uncategorised - you'll probably find Tesco WAP, Tesco WAP GPRS and Tesco MMS here. If you longpress on any access point a new screen with more choices pops up, for Tesco WAP and Tesco WAP GPRS choose Internet destination. Now go to Internet destnations and probably need your WLAN as Priority 1 and Tesco WAP GPRS as Priority 2 for starters. For this highlight access point > longpress >choose "Change priority" and then highlight say access point in Priority 1 > OK and it jumps up the list.
When you open web browser click "Options > General > Access point > change to "Ask when needed" and next time you can change it to say "Internet" where home WLAN is Priority 1.
Post again when you are a bit more familiar with this as probably then have more questions.
Happy to have helped forum with a Support Ratio = 42.5

I am at Ramstein AB Germany.  My iphone screen was smashed badly on the flight to Germany this morning.  WHEN I access apple support for this subject it gives me 3 options call now, call me now or call me later.  As I am in Germany with no coverage and no working phone none of those options will work.  Can you get this e-mail to someone who can help.  My iphone serial # is C38xxxxxx. 1) I need to know where and how I can get a replacement somewhere nearby in Germany 2) If 1 is not an option I need to set up an appt to get a to get a new iphone at an apple store in Atlanta GA in the evening of 11 July.

Thanks, my wife is the one serving I am retired and trying to follow her as much as I can.
I will schedule an appt for my next time stateside.  I have spent too much time on many Apple web sites trying to get an e-mail to communicate with anyone at Apple to no avail, only phone numbers. I guess if you are overseas with no international access you are out of luck communicating with them.  I did find one e-mail address but the reply was computer generated and provided useless links.
If anyone has any e-mail address for anyone at Apple I would appreciate it.
    Thanks again,

  • Verizon should be giving me a network extender if I cannot use their phone here in my home even though they say I "should" have coverage. Verizon acknowledges that it is a problem of theirs...but I'm expected to pay my bill and can't use my phone?

I want VERIZON to send us a NETWORK extender at their cost because I pay my bill and am NOT receiving phone service from VERIZON as promised. I am stranded without the use of my cell phone in my home. My contract says that VERIZON will provide me service and I must pay...I DO pay. Why would VERIZON do this to a almost 7 year responsible customer? Our whole family uses VERIZON (seperately) and this is horrible customer service. VERIZON knows that many of the basic phones do not work as promised. I want a working phone. All VERIZON keeps saying is that my upgrade isn't until August? I don't want an upgrade, I want a phone that works. I am contacting the Attorney General's office to see what can be done. I have missed emergency phone calls and now will be in a snowstorm without a reliable phone.

First of all, Verizon does not guarantee service, even in areas where the map says there is full coverage.
Service provided vial radio waves can be affected by multiple things, such as foliage, buildings AND asmospheric conditions such as snowstorms.
Maybe you should have purchased the NE before the snowstorm, but then if your power went out, you would be out of luck. Of course, your power company says they will provide you power, but then again, sometimes there are outages.
If phone service is so important, there is NOTHING as reliable as a land line!!!

  • Is it possible to activate IPhone while outside of cell coverage?

I have a quick question concerning activation of an iPhone. i live in the mountains and have no cell service of any kind. (or much else) I do however spend time down in civilization and that is really where i intend to use the iPhone. (and where i use my current cell phone). i am a loyal mac user and have an apple id and an itunes account i have broadband internet connection via hughesnet but do not currently have an AT&T account
My question is this- would i be able to activate my iPhone at my home where there is no cell coverage and then when i do get to where there is coverage be able to use it? Or does the activation process require AT&T to able to connect to the iPhone to complete the activation? Lastly does it change things if i wish to transfer my old cell number to the new iPhone. Thanx in advance-gospel

Good to know, but still, the OP doesn't have to go to the Apple store to do this. I didn't. Maybe it loads all the required info into the phone and goes through when a signal is available, I don't understand the technical specs. All I know is that I have absolutely NO bars (I'd have NEGATIVE bars, if that could happen!) and I did all of my activating and updating on my home computer (or started the process I should say!)

  • Can't see all devices from one AccessPoint to another? What is best setup to extend wireless coverage?

We have just moved into a new apartment with concrete walls, hence WiFi signal is quite weak in the other end of the apartment.  Not all devices can see each other depending on which AP i am associated to.
Basically I want to have any wired/wireless devices be able to see my NAS/Office based components and keep the LivingRoom tidier.  Only device in LivingRoom will be ISP components and AppleTV.
Some additional notes on current setup
    - LivingRoom has the ISP issued Router/AccessPoint
    - the ISP Router/AP is currently setup as a) AccessPoint b) DHCP server and c) default gateway to get to the Internet
    - LivingRoom AP SSID is 'LivingRoom'
    - DHCP pool is on the 192.168.1.0/24 range
    - Default GW is 192.168.1.254
    - in the LivingRoom i am also using the Router/AP ethernet ports for AppleTV
    - connected to the Router/AP is a long Ethernet cable to the other end of the apartment in the Office
    - on other end of the long Ethernet cable is an Airport Extreme in the Office on the WAN port
    - the AirportExtreme is setup in 'Bridge' mode
    - Connected to the Office_AirportExtreme is a) a NAS device physically in the Office via Ethernet cable b) WebCam in BedRoom2 via WiFi
    - Office_AirportExtreme SSID is 'Office'
    - all devices confirmed are assigned an IP from the LivingRoom Router/AccessPoint and on the 192.168.1.0 pool
    - at this time in only have WebCam and NAS however Plex and Desktop coming shortly as we are still unpacking
    Issue
    a) When my laptop is associated to SSID 'Office' i can see the NAS and WebCam; able to PING and hit via HTTP
    b) When my laptop is associated to SSID 'LivingRoom' i CANNOT see the NAS/WebCam;  I am unable to hit the two devices behind the Office_AirportExtreme via PING/HTTP and I am able to surf the Internet, however cannot see the NAS/WebCam
    Question
    a) is there some other config on the Office_AirportExtreme that must be done to disable any Firewall type capabilities that is limiting the ability for devices on other side of the Office_AirportExtreme from seeing the devices behing the Office_AirportExtreme?
    b) is this ideal config?
    c) is it typical to have different SSID?  would like to get to just single SSID for the apt, however not sure if there will be conflict i'm not aware of.
Totally open to any suggestions on others that have done this before to avoid reinventing the wheel...
    See pic below...
    Thx -Ray

Note that after additional poking around and disabling Wi-Fi all together confirmed that when wired to either the ISP Router/AP or the Office_AE, i am able to see both NAS and WebCam behind the Office_AE.
The issue seems to be with the ISP Router/AP where by there is a difference in behavior when connected via Wi-Fi vs Wired.  All is well with the AirportExtreme from what i can gather.
i'm just going to pickup a separate Wi-Fi access point to provide coverage for the LivingRoom area instead of trying to figure this out further.
FYI.  I am in Singapore using SingTel Fiber service and the ISP Router/AP i am using is Aztech DSL7000GRV(S)

  • One year warranty coverage is almost over, should I get Applecare?

Just wondering what you all thought about spending another 249 bucks for three years of coverage...my Macbook is running smoothly, knock on wood, but down the road, who knows....
    battery...
    screen...
    motherboard....
    Superdrive....
    case...
Are there any issues that seem to appear often enough to justify buying the Applecare?
I also, have an Airport Extreme Base Station(n) that would be covered by the same plan, if I bought one, I think....
That means the 249 would cover my Macbook and my AEBS(n) for another 3 years...that sounds like better bang my buck....

MacBooks haven't really been around long enough to know what will come in the future as far as problems. However, I'd recommend getting AppleCare, just because portable computers are a bit more fragile than desktops.
I had an iBook before I bought my MacBook. The iBook was very reliable until right before the three-year AppleCare was due to expire. I can't say enough good things about the way I was treated -- because I had AC. The troubleshooting and repairs went on for several months after my AC expired, but it was all considered an ongoing problem, so there was no question about whether eligibility had expired or not. The iBook traveled to the Apple "hospital" via FedEx three times at Apple's expense, overnighted each time in a box Apple overnighted to me. My logic board and practically everything inside was replaced, as well as the keyboard (though nothing was wrong with that). The problem was finally correctly diagnosed as a faulty AirPort card and replaced -- and they sent me a brand-new Airport Extreme base station as a sort of apology at the whole thing having taken so long to figure out.
Needless to say, I bought AC again for my MacBook. Apple's customer service, in my experience, is exemplary.

  • How to delete the coverages for an ACTIVE service contract ?

    Hi ,
I have created coverages for few service lines for a service contract in R12. The contract is in ACTIVE status. If it was in ENTERED state, I could use OKS_COVERAGES_PUB.DELETE_COVERAGE to delete the coverages. But this contract is in  ACTIVE status.
Basically I want the lines lse_id=2,3 removed for a particular line (lse_id=1) which were created by using OKS_CONTRACTS_PUB.CREATE_SERVICE_LINE. This contract has a standard coverage and hence there should not be lines with lse_id=2,3 for that particular service line .
Also, I am not able to delete a coverage for an EXPIRED contract.
Please let me know if you need more information on this.

    Hi 2619098
Did you find a solution for this? I am having the same problem. Please advice.

  • I have an iphone 5 that i trade with a family member they have coverage on it. now the iphones sleep wake button doesnt work sometimes can apple replace my iphone even if i dont have the box or recipit to the product or can they just repair it?

i have an iphone 5 that i traded with from a family member. its has coverage but now the sleep/wake button doesnt work sometimes. can apple replace my iphone and give me a new one or is it just something they can repair? i dont have the box or recipit to apple care or the iphone

Apple can fix it without your receipt or box. They pull the serial number from the device and determine warranty status from that.  Hopefully ApplCare was registered to the product before you lost the receipt though.  If not, you can go back to the point of purchase and obtain your AppleCare receipt and Apple can help attach it to the iPhone.

  • Verizon wirelss seems to have more drop areas and less coverage in the Spokane area.  Why is that?

I have been a Verizon wireless customer for many years.  This last year or so I have found more and more light coverage areas and have had more dropped calls than in the previous five.  I have had to consider moving to another carrier.  Does anyone know of why Verizon coverage has become worse and are others experiencing the same thing?

Thanks for filling us in on a few more details! There are definitely many factors that can contribute to changes in service. Builging materials, terrain, number of customers trying to use the phone nearby, even signal boosters can all have a different effect on your coverage in an area. The Network Extender http://vz.to/IHRT6h is intended to help with both voice and 3G data inside of a home and there is not a 4G LTE version (calls are not placed over LTE services in most cases).
If the purchase of a Network Extender hasn't helped inside your home, we do need to take a few troubleshooting steps to see why. When you place a call, do you hear the short tones before the call connects indicating you're connected to the Network Extender? What type of home internet connection do you have? What model router is the extender connected through?
