• To Let or Not to Let: ITunes Music Management

Through painful shortcommings in v.1 of I-Tunes when it was first released, I learned just to click on the "no" box when telling each new upgrade (for years now) NOT to "Automatically let Itunes management my music".
Given that we are all very PRO-Mac here and the tendency is to love most all Mac apps, i would really appreciate some critical/balanced praise for or reasons finally give this a try or continue to shy away.
I promised i've searched archives here and on the web to the best of my ability, but i would love someone to forward me to any PRO's -vs- CON's review or article that covers letting ITunes mananage one's music library.
Thanks for input gang!
-david

David
I found the way it was splitting up all my music into so many subfolders, etc. was bothersome.
Why bothersome? Like I say you NEVER need to go into the iTunes Music Folder. Everything you need to do, you do via the iTunes window.
There is NO conversion of file in any way when it imports? ...my file is 100% as it was, just a duplicate has been made?
That depends: Are you ripping CD's? then set your preferences to import as AIFF (unchanged) or mp3, aac or Lossless or whatever. Depending on which you choose there is or isn't conversion.
However, If you're bringing in already existing files then there is no conversion if you use the File -> Add to Library Command
So you move all your tunes onto back up media and just add to ITunes by IMPORTING, yes?
Again, I don't move any files. For instance, if I purchase music using this laptop, I can then put the music on a flash drive and pop it into the iMac across the room.
At iTunes I use the Add to Library command: iTunes copies the files to the iTunes Music Folder, adds the listing to the Library, and I make a playlist. When I'm sure it's all working, I trash the files on the flash drive. Later, I run my back up programme and it backs up the the lot.
If you have more questions... ask away.
Regards

• Customer Service

I am having real difficulty in getting someone to take this issue on because I am not a number (RMA).
We bought the MP3 player in July 200 for my son who is autistic. It is very important to him that his stuff looks right and he simply will not use something that he doesn't like the look of. He loved his Creative Zen mp3 player and from August 200 to Jan 20 he would have it on all the time if we had let him. In Jan the device refused to return to the home screen. I contacted your customer service department. tried the reset button - several times. downloaded the fix programme - no joy. Sent more emails and received one with a form to send it back to you. I used the form, sent a covering letter BUT because of the blessed RMA number or rather the lack of it the MP3 has vanished in your system. I sent in proof of purchase as requested, I sent in proof of posting as requested. I have been asked at least 0 times if I have an RMA number - I don't. The numbers of some of the emails I have been sent are undernoted. Apparently it is my fault that the item has gone missing in your system. I have worked in a complaints department and know a 'too much work, I'll send a holding email' when I see it.
My son asks daily why you are not sending him back his MP3 player. Should I tell him that you have effecti'vely stolen it from him? Please be honest if this is genuinely all you can do. At least I will know where I stand.

I fully appreciate that you are not in a position to resolve the matter from the constraints of your role. I know that you understand my frustration at having to send countless emails to people both in Customer Services and to yourself that do not seem to have any effect.
My initial emails to your customer service department brought no response although they were polite in the extreme. It is only now that I am sending more strongly worded emails that I feel I am making progress.
I do feel that my integrity is being brought into question here and I would like the matter referred to the highest level possible.
Please can you arrange for this to happen.

• Error while previewing Crystal Reports in SAP B1

Dear Experts,
I have installed the Crystal Reports Addon to SAP B1 2007B, and it works fine with the sample reports in B1.
My problem is as given below.
I have created Covering Letter report for the Cheque printing functionality. Preview and all is ok in the Crystal Report designer.
But it shows error while trying to preview it in SAP B1.
The Error Message is: Failed to retrieve data from the database. Details: [Database vendor code: 207]
I have used the Command Query while creating the report, and is given below:
SELECT ODSC_BankMaster.BankName, OCHO_ChequePaymentHd.CheckNum, OCHO_ChequePaymentHd.CheckDate,
CHO1_ChequePaymentDt.LineDitail, CHO1_ChequePaymentDt.LineMoney, OCHO_ChequePaymentHd.AcctNum, OCHO_ChequePaymentHd.TransRef,
OCHO_ChequePaymentHd.CheckSum, OCRD_BusinessPartner.CardName, CRD1_BusinessPartnerAddress.Address,

FROM CHO1 AS CHO1_ChequePaymentDt INNER JOIN
OVPM AS OVPM_OutgoingPayment INNER JOIN

CHO1_ChequePaymentDt.CheckKey = OCHO_ChequePaymentHd.CheckKey INNER JOIN
ODSC AS ODSC_BankMaster ON OCHO_ChequePaymentHd.BankNum = ODSC_BankMaster.BankCode INNER JOIN
OCRD AS OCRD_BusinessPartner ON OCHO_ChequePaymentHd.VendorCode = OCRD_BusinessPartner.CardCode INNER JOIN
CRD1 AS CRD1_BusinessPartnerAddress ON OCRD_BusinessPartner.CardCode = CRD1_BusinessPartnerAddress.CardCode AND
OCRD_BusinessPartner.BillToDef = CRD1_BusinessPartnerAddress.Address CROSS JOIN
OADM AS OADM_CompanyDetails
WHERE (OCHO_ChequePaymentHd.Printed = 'Y') AND (OCHO_ChequePaymentHd.Canceled = 'N') AND (OCHO_ChequePaymentHd.BankNum ='{?BankCode}') AND (OCHO_ChequePaymentHd.CheckNum BETWEEN {?ChequeNoFrom} and {?ChequeNoTo})
ORDER BY OCHO_ChequePaymentHd.CheckNum
If I use the tables directly in the reports, the above query would contain the database base name also as prefix to the table in the FROM clause.
Eg
DBName.dbo.OCHO
How to avoid it? Is there any settings in the designer?
Query in the Sample report doesnot have the database name as prefix.
What shall I do for that?
Hope that my problem is clear.
Please Help. Thanks in advance
Regards,
Toms Abraham

DBName.dbo.OCHO is the right format for CR. You could not avoid it. Why should you?
On the other hand, it is not a good idea to rename DB name to such a long name. What is the purpose?
Thanks,
Gordon

• Struggling with a one to many relationship in a sub-report

Post Author: Scott_tansley
CA Forum: General
I have a database schema as per below: tblENQUIRY                 tblDatasheets                  tblReportParasIRSID (PK)       1 --> &  IRSID (FK)                       UID (PK)Attribute1                     SHEETID (PK)     1 > &  SHEETID (FK)Attribute2                     Attribute1                         LIST_ORDER                         tblStandardParasAttribute3                     Attribute2                         PARA_CODE (FK)    & < 1   CODE     (PK)etc...                            Attribute3                                                                     TEXT                                   etc...
The PROBLEM I am a Crystal Reports Newbie, and having to work through things bit by bitu2026 I've managed to achieve quite a lot, but I'm totally stuck with this and would appreciate some help. I need to create a report (essentially a letter and some datasheets) around a one-to-many relationship, which I have managed to compile using a main report (for the one [tblENQUIRY]) and sub report (for the many [tblDatasheets]). Essentially I need a covering letter, then the u2018manyu2019 datasheets, and then a number of other pages (which are largely static text). I have created a main report which includes the covering letter, holds a subreport for the datasheets, and then contains the text for the additional pages. This all works fine, and I get the correct number of datasheets for each main report. My problem stems from the use of this sub report. This sub-report needs to hold some attribute values for each datasheet, which is fine. However, on each datasheet page I need to have some paragraphs, which are held in another one to many relationship. Each datasheet may have up to six paragraphs held as a code in tblReportParas, with a relationship to the text as held in tblStandardParas. My original thought would have been to embed another sub report, containing the values from tblStandardParas!TEXT, into the first sub report. However, I have found that it is not possible to have a sub-report inside another sub-report. I had seperated the first sub-report out from the main report, and then embedded another sub-report into it. This worked fine until I tried to stitch the sub-report back into the main report (at which point the sub-sub-report dissapeared from view). I have therefore reworked my sub-report a little, and the attribution is now stored in a pageheader, with the tblStandardParas!TEXT in a detail section below it. This almost works! The only problem is that there is no relationship between the pageheader and detail sections. To clarify, I would expect to have one datasheet, with the attribution at the top, and then the six paras below. Then, the same on the next page (assuming there is a second datasheet) for that report. Instead, I get the correct attribution, but the detail section actually gives every paragraph in the database, no matter which datasheet/or report it related to! I therefore need to limit the detail section to only show those paragraphs where the SHEETID in tblReportParas is the same as the tblDatasheets SHEETID. Any offers of advice would be appreciated.

I managed to resolve this myself in the end. I moves the tblEnquiry data into report header/footer sections, this allowed me to add the tblDatasheets information into the details section, which gave me multiple pages - and then finally, the Paragraphs were added through the use of a sub report.
There's probably an even better way, but for now it works, it's quick - and so I'm going to go with it!
Thanks for your interest.

I purchased the multi-user iworks (yes back when it was new, 2009 or 2010 and recently had to replace my white imac's hard drive (but didn't pay to fix the CD drive). My iworks does not have a serial number on the box and now that my CD drive isn't working how can I reinstall this software?

Buy or borrow an external USB optical drive.
See the confirmation email or covering letter to obtain the serial number. If you have lost it, contact the supplier.

• R12 - Multiple programs to be submitted in supplier remittance and bank trf

in 11i, the AP payment programs was set up such that a custom SQL program is triggered during "Bank Transfer" and "Supplier Remittance" processes
The custom SQL program has a logic to submit multiple reports for each process. E.g. Supplier remittance has a "Covering letter" followed by another program for the actual supplier remittance
How do we acheive this in R12 using PPR and payment formats? Since in R12 only layouts can be modified, how to submit multiple reports / concurrent programs for each process ?

Hi
Thanks for the response.
But there are some cases where there are 3 and also 4 programs submitted as part of payment process. In 11i this was achieved by submitting an SQL based program which in turn submitted multiple programs.
How to submit 3 or more programs using PPR or payment process profile features of R12 ?

• Restriciting Movement types in transactions

Hi,
I wanted to ask, is there a way to restrict movement types in a particular transaction?
EG: MRKO
Thanks,
Chintan!

Yes,
During the consignment settlement process, there are several movement types that are covered.
lets suppose a scenario, that i need to settle the liabilities for a particular movement type say "403 Transfer of consignment stock to company's own stock" , but not for "404 reverasal -> Transfer of consignment stock to company's own stock"
is it possible to do that?

• Exports From India?

Hi Experts!
Can anybody guide me about the documents can be generated in SAP for exports process from India?
Thanks,
Amol

Dear Amol
Following are the export documents that would be used by the exporters in India.
- Invoice (Proforma / Commercial)
- Packing List
- ARE-1
- GSP Form
- DEEC Declaration in case of Advance Licence export shipment
- Bank Covering Letter (like Hundi used in domestic)
- Bill of Lading
- Shipping Bill
The Bill of Lading would be released by the Liner who owns the Vessel (Ship) and Shipping Bill would be released by the clearing agent.
From SAP point of view, it is enough if you concentrate on all excepting the last two.
thanks

• £2000+ for no service.

Hi,
Just discovered today that we've been charged £37.73 a month for the last 5 years for mobile phones we don't have. Didn't realise sooner as the broadband is in my name but is paid through my mothers bank account (via direct debit) and she thought the extra charge was something to do with this. Turns out the charge is actually for 2 mobiles she recieved unsolicited and sent back to BT.
The (very helpful) guy on the phone today agreed that we're not using them and that the contract expired years ago but says they were never cancelled. He said we should be hearing from his manager within a few days but also said that due to the amount involved, we should take this to "chairman" level ourselves through this website. However, now that I look at it, there seems to be about a zillion different paths through the "Contact Us" thing so could someone suggest the best place to actually start?
So, we've paid out over £2000 for something we've never (or perhaps briefly - difficult to remember that far back) used, didn't want in the first place and have never received a bill for. Anyone any ideas on how best to proceed as the impression we were given today was that we would somehow have to _prove_ this is not our fault?
Thanks.

Ok, so here's an update (and plea for more help) on what's been happening since my last post.
A few days after the bill I mentioned came, we recieved another one for £20-something as "Final payment" on the account. These two bills are the ONLY we have had from BT for the mobiles.
We rang BT to ask why they were still taking money from us and to check on progress on the money they owed us. After being passed around for a while we eventually spoke to a "manager". She conceded that we hadn't used the phones as far back as her records went but could not access info further back, including the initial contract we're supposed to have made with them or the cancellation. Everything was apparently "archived". When pressed to get someone to de-archive the info so we could have copies to send to the bank, it turned out the they weren't actually archived at all but destroyed. Hmmm...
She was adamant that we had been getting monthly bills and that it was all basically our fault. The impression given was that because they'd had this money for so long it had somehow become rightfully thiers. We pointed out that if we had been getting the bills, we would have done something about it sooner as there was absolutely no advantage to us to be paying for something we don't have. She had no answer to this except to insist we were to blame but as a "goodwill" gesture they would give us back 6 months worth. We politely declined this offer. She promised someone above her would ring us the following wednesday.... they didn't.
So, we rang the bank for help with the DD Guarantee form they had sent us and they said not to worry about it too much, fill in what we could and explain the rest in a covering letter. We did.
I've often had harsh things to say about banks (mainly the gambling types) but they - Barclays in this case - seemed to have got straight on it as when we went to the cashpoint last week we saw there was @£2000 more than usual.
Success! We have our money back - everything's sorted.
Until today. We got two almost identical bill saying
Dear Sir/Madam,
Payment of £2,295.86 for account number xxxxxxxxx
Our records show that payment for the above bill has not yet been recived.
Unless we receive immediate payment, we will have no alternative but to suspend your service.
bla bla bla
We rang the bank to see if there had been some mistake. They said no, everything's fine, it's your money and there's nothing BT can do about it.
We rang BT and had pretty much the same discussion with this manager as with the previous one except that he agreed it would be pretty weird for us to be paying all this money if we'd been aware of it. He also said the previous manager had made a note that we had accepted the 6 month offer. This is most definately not true. Yet another manager is supposed to be calling on Monday. We'll see.
Most importantly though, they threatened that if we did not send them the £2,295.86 then a debt collection agency would be involved. My mother is now very upset and worried that large men are going to appear at the door and start carrying off her posessions.
Can any of you please help and explain exactly where we stand here and what best to do?

• OT: O'Reilly School of Technology?

I'm wondering if anyone's taken any of the classes at the
O'Reilly
School of Technology (
http://www.oreillyschool.com/).
Specifically, I was considering taking a PHP & MySQL
course(s) there. I
do have some working knowledge of PHP & MySQL and a solid
background in
ColdFusion. But I really wanted to become more proficient
with PHP &
MySQL. The knowledge I do have has come primarily from Larry
Ullman's
PHP6 & MySQL book which was great but I really learn best
in a class
environment even if it's an online class.
Any insight is appreciated!
David

It doesn't mean anything specific. It's not the name of any specific technology or product. My guess is that they have some system or other that you can command by voice and don't know what it's called. And, of course, without knowing what it is you can't tell if you can support it.
Maybe you could phone up the secretary and ask them to find out for you. Or maybe you could deal with the question in your covering letter or at interview. For which, good luck.
